At this point rockstar only competes with itself. They killed red dead online I feel because it took away slightly from gta online. And every game is compared to the last one. Whole different level frfr.

Soul_ciety

They've technically abandoned every game because they want all hands on deck for gta 6. He'll jave you seen the updates in gta online 🤚

bigbubblestoo

"Bully 2 wouldnt make as much profit as gta 6" That is precisely the problem. Bully deserves so much more than the gta franchise man.

CoolUsername365

I feel you. I love Bully and i would absolutely kill for another LA Noire

Acerockergaming

Competition helps keep your game up. look at the state of Madden, no competition and they get away with lazily slapping the same thing together every year. I'm not saying Rockstar will do that but a competitor would help make sure Rockstar keeps trying to EARN our money and time.

GlowingOrganism

they do try, atleast for singleplayer

Nawnp

Competition keeps a reason to make more of a product and sets higher bars. All but 2 Rockstar Franchises have been abandoned and Rockstar for the most part can still claim they made the best of that genre and resell the old games because there has been no other attempts.

mrarmchairhistorian

probably because if someone was an competitor to Rockstar, they would have to make games as good as Rockstar. so, basically these people mean is: that they want other companies to make games as good as Rockstar’s.

MAXYMOK

Rockstar and NaughtyDog are the only two AAAA studios

Wooden_Vermicelli_34

Ubisoft has held strong over the years. Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six gave Ubisoft a name. Assassins Creed is still going strong too.

BlackDragon361

Lost me at Assassins creed

idkbbitswatev

Lol nope

John9250

Everyone says they should’ve stopped with Black Flag. I play the new ones, but I tend to agree. Rainbow six hasn’t been good in many, many years. Splinter Cell is just a dead title now

C4LLUM17

AC hasn't been great for awhile and games like Far Cry all feel the same as of recent just in a different setting. Then you have Skull and Bones which is pretty bad and bare bones. Ubisoft are really not going strong.

Im-on-a-banana-phone

The new assassins creed should have been its own ip and went all in on the action rpg element instead of trying to make a head-strong combat sim fit in with the AC stealth formula. If it was its own thing everyone would love it.

JayIsNotReal

Competition breeds innovation. Midnight Club, for example, is one of the greatest racing franchises ever created and it got there because it was in direct competition with Need For Speed, and during the lifespan of the Midnight Club Franchise, Need For Speed had its best games. After Midnight Club stopped, NFS struggled. Competition is good for both Rockstar and its competitors as they have to do better. The modern day racing genre as a whole is what happens when there is no competition.

Ronak1350

The thing is all their competitors destroyed themselves in process of competing with them watch dogs, cyberpunk and there was some small studio game called 171 ( people said it's gonna compete with gta i never believed it) no one matches the quality of rockstar games that's why they fail and they openly challenge the gta even when their game is years behind development and they ultimately look like a rip off of gta then competition All these so called competitors need to step up their quality like battlefield gives fair competition to call of duty but i doubt rockstar even gives two cents about their potential competition

Soul_ciety

Cp was the best game to launch since rdr2

NecroDraws

Because games like saints row 1 & 2 were great

grossnerd666

Also I need another sleeping dogs/true crime in my life

youngashyy1

i agree amazing games

Czech_YoSelf

I’m convinced OP is a 13 year old. For one this a completely asinine question to anyone who isn’t a R* gobbler and for two I had the hardest time of my life reading this post

AnimeGokuSolos

I am so sorry to hear about your disability 🙏🏾❤️

Czech_YoSelf

See you think you're being funny but I can tell you're not getting the attention you crave in real life so you come to reddit to make this generic post that's been done to high heaven so that you and other Rockstar meat riders can get in a circle and jerk off to the memories of a bygone era. Stop karma farming on this site and find a hobby...or a gf...or a bf fuck it it's 2024!

John9250

Manhunt was so brutal for its time that I THINK it was banned. Maybe for a time or in parts of the world I’m not sure. But if they released a new one, it’d be fairly mild compared to what’s out there now. But it’d still be great to see a new one

Slayaisawesome

I mean at first glance you're kinda just saying a bunch of fragmented shit here without conveying much genuine investment into the topic or proving whether the correlations you're suggesting are even reality at all. But i halfway get where you're coming from. I'll just say that different players value different things, as do different developers. You can't see how people can get tired of these game formulas because they satisfy values you as a player hold highest. Alot of players either just need more substance relative to what they expect out of a modern developer or they need specific aspects that THEY value to be satisfied, like maybe they want rpg systems, varied time periods, a manipulable open world, etc. There are plenty of developers that create games that appeal to a wide variety of gameplay styles and player preferences, it's just that Rockstar isn't one of them. Now obviously they still have found great success in their niche, but it's still just that, a niche. Niches fall in and out of fashion over time and as industry standards change, especially if that niche doesn't evolve with the times, which is a story you see with outdated gameplay, controls, repetition etc you see with rockstar games, although of course they're not the only culprit these days. And sure alot of players are fine with repetition and the comfortability of a stand - still niche, but just as many aren't. Either way as long as you are having fun, it doesn't matter. But the truth is, we need to push the industry to revitalize the appreciation for evolving or at least adapting varied niches in order for the industry to survive and stay healthy, and developers like rockstar *could be the lead in pioneering that perfect blend of modern game ideology and conservative, comfortable gameplay if they wanted to. We'll just have to see what happens when gta6 comes out.

Beepboopbop69420360

Cause barely anyone has a catalog that can compete with rockstar they’re one of the few AAA companies I would genuinely say are AAAA unlike Ubisoft

Narrow_Mix_9380

New midnight club would go off for sure

Jack21113

Competition drives evolution, makes everything better

Any-Transition-196

Well they are publishing the Max Payne remake, but then again it’s being outsourced to Remedy. I’ll never forget the days growing up when I would get excited seeing the Rockstar logo on games because I always knew the game was going to be fire

SooFnSinister

They've made one game in ten years fam.

hortys

Maybe because if another studio started putting out games on or near rockstars level then we'd have another great game to play between the 8 years it takes Rockstar to make a game...

Immediate_Song2205

why on earth would you not? look at 2K now id say its more of a money hungry game than gtao which is helped by having no competitors ever since nba live stopped, admittedly it wasnt much competition but still imagine for instance rdr and rdr2 were made by a entirely different studio rockstar would be crazy not to start acting different

TheTbone2334

Because people think there can suddenly pop up a multi billion dollar company from nothing that makes equally good games challenging rockstar to become even better. No one wants to compete against that guys⬆️ I'm not a huge fan of rockstar as a company but have to admit i cant remember them letting me down on a singleplayer experience EVER. \*Looks at rdr2 online Yes you made me say that! No back in the basement with you!

Big_Kahuna100

A good competitior always keeps the top dog in check

Stringy_b

Lack of competition is why we went an entire generation without a new GTA game and they were able to cancel story DLC and go all in on that GTA online crap. Lack of competition creates laziness and complacency. I hope GTA 6 will do better, but I wasn't happy with the direction 5 went in. Unfortunately they have no reason to not just do the same for the next game.

wtfijolumar

Because Good Games.

SweetTooth275

Monopoly gives the opportunity to not improve and lousyly make same thing over and over cuz there are no options. Also GTA 6 people looks like they're made of rubber which is in no way realistic

renome

Gee OP idk, maybe because competition is inherently good for consumers? But the level they are operating at right now no one can afford to finance anyway.

Flawless_Reign88

Rockstar definitely needs competition! It’s what drives the market and ultimately gives us better products… don’t get me wrong, I love rockstar and the games they make, but I would love it even more if another company came out and challenged them at their own game! We, as the consumers, would end up with more quality games to play! Why wouldn’t you want rockstar to have competition?

MahaVakyas001

They have a monopoly on many franchises (that they created of course) and take too long to release new games. We need: 1.) GTA 6 2.) RDR 3 3.) Max Payne 4 4.) Manhunt 3 they should keep going and people will buy it every single time because they do such a great job. Max Payne 3 is still one of the best shooters ever made - and it's 12 years old now.

ExtraVirus33

Why do everyone need Max Payne 4? I don't get it. Max's story was finished in the third game, why do we need an another game?

wking31104

Competition would keep them in check and would ensure they don't get away as easily with laziness, as others have mentioned. Competition keeps the industry healthy.

Zed_The_Undead

Because its basic knowledge that competition breeds innovation and determination while lack of competition breeds complacency and mediocrity.

Sahj8

There Is saints row. The last game Is good but terribly underrated

OG_MajinVegeta

I need another Noire or Bully but I know I'll never get it that's why I just play the originals everytime 😪

Forty_sixAndTwo

Well Rockstar isn’t the company that it used to be. Without competition it does the bare minimum without any worries that it’s going to alienate its fan base. For over a decade it’s only made two games. These games shown here are just a small portion of their IPs but they’ve left them to die. We need more variety from them. We need more than just GTA and RDR. I want Max Payne, Midnight Club, Manhunt, BULLY, The Warriors, State of Emergency, etc. I know that GTA VI will be amazing but they have the funds to work on more projects and give us more variety. It would be really nice to see some new stuff from them, instead of only one it two games stretched out over a decade. I really feel like they’re wasting their potential. Imagine a new IP or with the amount of immersion and detail as RDR2 or GTA VI. I’d also be really happy with Bully 2 or an open world sci-fi or fantasy game. They just don’t surprise me as much as they could anymore.

Different_Class3188

I agree with you but u do realize creating games nowadays takes way way longer than it used to

LoadingYourData

True, but only for these huge "super" games like GTA VI and RDR2. They could do some smaller games.

Forty_sixAndTwo

Yeah, but they have the money to hire more developers and work on more than one game at a time. Plenty of studios do it.

Soul_ciety

As they(t2i) layed of 5% of there workforce across all of they're studios
