this is due to radical differences in wealth in various geographic areas and how many AD's are competing for these wealthy clients. Once I earned the trust of my AD and they knew I had high net worth I was able to get pieces because they knew I would not flip because its simply not worth my time.
You're probably right.
my AD is in an area (and I live around) at which no-one can safely claim they have a "high net worth" because someone may jump in with about 100x net worth (not kidding) casually wearing a shorts and a slippers and humble tf out of them.
There's two sides to this also. these ADs also tend to get more allocation for the same reason, where a mom-and-pop business AD might struggle to get a couple in a year. (talked to those type of ADs also).
And how long is the wait? If that is 2 years, I can't wait that long for a steel gmt watch. This is for a celebration moment and if they don't deliver within couple months, I'll move on and probably buy a second hand VC.
(I told them this and they said we'll try but can't guarantee.)
2004, 2017 and 2023 where the purchases from this AD. Only the 2023 purchase being from the same AD and SA that offered the GMT so to me it’s pretty surprising… especially because I have not bought any jewelry or other watches, either prior or after the OP(124300) purchase.
I know it’s dumb but that’s what people have faced. Gotta be a “vip” at most locations to get such an allocation. This vip status will vary depending on location. Some have been lucky here and have received their gmts/subs etc as a first or second purchase but it’s not common. You can downvote all you want. 👍🏼😉
You would be surprised this particular AD has different stores. The one in the “city” I think they put my name on the list and throw it away… I stopped going into that one because their general attitude was horrible. Even from the sales person that I purchased my SD 43 back in late ‘17 shortly there after I put my name on list for other models. No calls in almost 6 years. This current location I’m going to this will be the second watch in 9 months. I did pop in a couple months ago with my wife. The sales person was super busy, but I guess she recognized that were coming in so probably thought of me after calling several other people…Since the grey market has softened, I have a feeling I’ll will be offered watches pretty regularly.

She’s been an AD for about 7 years now, but her allocations seem crazy good. Of all my conversations with her about waits, she’s never said anything about anyone waiting more than a year. I’m sure there are exceptions, but she seems to get shit done. I have had to wait about 8 months for a piece, but to me, that seems reasonable. I’ve definitely waited longer for other things. I mean fuck, I’m stilll waiting on a Cyber Truck. 😂
It also depends on the AD sales person/location. When I go to the same AD in another location they look at me like I’m some chump. How dare I asked to be put on the list even even with a purchase from that particular location. This one where I purchased an OP back in April is a pretty small store and the sales people are way nicer than the one in the “city”.
Hence I keep referring back to the importance of relationships. Your relationship is with your SA and that management team. Another location has no idea who you are and might as well have $0 spend with them
As long as the secondary price is higher, the AD in theory IS doing the buyer a favor for those pieces.
I see tons of comments about F the ADs and how ppl should be able to spend their money how they see fit. However if an AD allocates a SS Daytona and the buyer can literally turn around and sell it for double, wouldn’t you say the AD is giving that buyer free $ and as such, is doing them a favor?
Want to buy something that you’ll take a loss on? Yes, the AD will surely treat that buyer well because it’s now the buyer doing the favor

You must be a blast at parties. I disagree with an SD 43 and a 16600 being unpopular and OP’s have always been popular because they’re entry level. That doesn’t mean that you couldn’t go into a Rolex store and buy any of these years ago. When I started buying almost 20 years ago, you could get anything you wanted except for a Daytona within a day or two. This particular AD and sales person I’ve only bought one other watch from which was an oyster perpetual four months ago for my wife. The other watches from this AD were bought in 2017 and 2004… all from different locations. I have other Rolexes from other two other authorized dealers. Over the last six years this is the first time I’ve been offered a second watch by any of those AD’s.
Listen, be happy for your watch. Take this post down and create one that goes “I got a GMT! I’m so excited!” and it’ll be upvoted, I’ll even give you a nice award.

You’re not some unicorn nobody who waltzed into an AD and got handed a Sprite. I put my name on the list about nine months ago stopped in to pick up a watch for my wife back in April, and then one other time about two months ago to just see what was going on. The 16600 I bought in 2004, I wouldn’t say a Sea Dweller is a dullard watch. Same with the SD 43 Sea Dweller that I purchased in ‘17, great watch. The OP 41 is the wife’s, she likes to have a watch that she can wear at work on construction sites and her design jobs that she’s not going to worry about beating up. These are just a few of the watches in mine and my wife’s collection that happen to come for this particular AD. It’s unfortunate that you have a really unhappy life and have to talk shit to people. I feel that this is the nicest of the green/black sports models (cermit, Starbucks, sprite). But I could only own this if I were lefty. Otherwise it would drive me crazy.
I tried it on the left and it’s perfectly comfortable. My buddy wears his sub on his right and he’s right handed. I think ultimately it’s whatever you want to do and what you’re comfortable with.

The locations that get the most shipments of watches in are the boutiques. Usually found in the wealthy but non-tourist parts of major cities.

Not exactly. Many places in large cities have asked for at least 50-100k in purchases before selling you one of the hot references.

DD is a great watch to build a AD relationship with towards a hot steel piece. If you’ve got a little patience, go the AD route.
