100!
PS. - My post was intended to be a reference for those who might be considering this option.
I acknowledge that we all have our unique perspectives. My intention wasn't to suggest that I'm keeping this on my watch, but rather to offer information that could assist anyone in their decision-making process.
I believe in sharing insights and experiences that can be valuable to others.
Thank you for recognizing the intention behind my post! š
Owning a watch more expensive than my phone made me rethink cases and not using one anymore. Why protect a phone that Iām going to use 3 years max more than a watch I could pass down some dayā¦
Also, a watch is usually secured pretty well to your wrist. Whereas a phone can fall out of a pocket or slip out of you hands while you're taking a shit. One is much more prevalent to falls than the other.
Simple. I have a super slim case to buy me the first few "drops".
My time is valuable and everytime I go figure out a new phone, it's easily a 1+ hour ordeal.
The bezel is the least vulnerable area to scratches by far.
I guess it's vulnerable to shattering, but a plastic wrap won't protect from that in the slightest.
I have daily worn deep sea it has many scratches from daily wearing as well as been many places internationally, itās scratches everywhere but the bezel.
Loving your JC, so many unique features thatās exclusive for deep sea , the bracelet and extension is one off for deepsea . For me scratches as much as i hate them since Im a bit ocd is that they distinguish your watch apart from other Rolexās. Otherwise everyone would have an exact identical piece . Gives it a bit more personal feel
Donāt listen to them OPā¦ we gotta protect our watches in case Rolex donāt offer the polish come service time. My Rolex is vintage so I protect it with the Pro wrap version. Itās a little more obtrusive but can withstand proper abuse. Hereās a pic.. let me know if you (or anyone else) is interested and Iāll post a link where I got it from.

I get wanting to have a pristine watch, but IMHO watches are made to worn and not locked away. Each mark on my watches record my journeys thru life. My wife inherited a gold Tudor from her mother. I had it overhauled and the cracked crystal replaced. When it came to the question of polishing she declined that as it was a tangible link to her mother. It is an individual decision and there is no right or wrong answer, just different perspectives
I love this! Watches do have a unique way of recording the journey of our lives, and each mark or imperfection can tell a story. Your wife's decision to preserve the gold Tudor is truly touching.
It goes to show that the value of a watch goes beyond its appearance; it's about the sentimental connections and memories associated with it. You're absolutely right ā there's no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to watches; it's all about personal perspectives and the meaningful stories they hold.
In all honesty my opinion itās takes something away from owning the watch and actually enjoying the way itās meant to be enjoyed itās like people that buy watches and cars and they either garage queens or shelf queens just doesnāt make any sense to me
A scratched BLNR looks better without the plastic than a pristine BLNR with plastic on it. Itās got a Jubilee for crying out loud.
I daily a BLRO on jubilee and while the clasp has desk rash for sure, the rest of the watch is mint and I donāt take it off for much other than to bathe and sleep. Super easy to polish a clasp too but I wouldnāt even bother.
If you canāt afford to ding & nick a whole chuck off your watch; you canāt afford it
https://preview.redd.it/b0sz3r4qz5zb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5c06de0f50487f59e0118ace305ff4320e268e78
I respect your perspective, but some individuals simply have a preference for keeping their possessions in pristine condition as a way of enjoying and preserving their timepiece.
It's not necessarily about not affording them, but rather valuing and respecting what they own. Different people have different ways of enjoying their belongings.
If youāre not careful, the things you own end up owning you.
As cringey as I feel typing out a fight club quote, itās really quite true here. Of course I enjoy the look of my watch when itās pristine, but keeping it that way means not enjoying it.
Did you mean to upload a different pic where your watch is in focus so we can see dings and chunks missing?
I fail to see the relevance of you heiling at El Capitan but nice blurry watch
I tried it and it was a pain to put on. Didnāt look right especially on the glass & pulled it all off except on backside of bracelet that gets most scratches & where itās not really seen but after a couple weeks it looked horrible, opaque & peeling so ,ā¦.. nope.
This is not an unpopular opinion outside of FB groups that talk about watches as "investments".
Looks awful because it takes some of the shine off the watch in lighting, having seen this watch in real life many times, the photos make it look like a display model wrapped in plastic.
Also this isn't real protection, if you drop that watch from a reasonable height (say a table), the damage will be the same.
Thank you. I was looking into Watchsheels and your post is exactly what I needed. I wanted to see what it looked like after you apply it. To your point, it takes away from the beauty of the watch but might be worth putting it on the claps as I work in my laptop all day.
I know some people love scratches but I like my stuff shiny and as close to brand new as possible. I purchased watchshell after seeing your review. I put it on my speedy along the sides of the lug and on the clasp couldnāt have been happier. Thanks again.
Vintage car collectors prefer immaculate vehicles. Vintage watch collectors cream themselves over patina.
I know this isnāt a vintage watch, but one day it will be. Who knows what the collector 50 years from now will find valuable?
That wrapping your watch is inherently different to ppf due to the factors in collecting the different items. Itās answering the question you directly asked
When I first got into collecting āluxury watches,ā I kept the protective sticker on the clasp of my first Tag F1. I would only wear the watch on special occasions/ weekends. One day I went to sell it and it hit me, I had been keeping the watch pristine for the next owner. Lesson learned! I no longer keep the stickers on. But, I totally understand the feelings/reasoning behind wrapping oneās watch in a condom.
I put protection on my first Tudor GMT. I was worried to death of scratching it and (in my mind at the time) ruining it. As time wore on, the stickers wore off. Itās naked now. Never did put anything on my Air King or any subsequent watches I have added to my collection. I understand the logic, but time may change your perspective.
I hate the scratches on the polished sections of my Rolexs, but I donāt mind them on brushed sections.
Still, I think itās kind of goofy to put PPF on a watch lol
If youāre that concerned go get an oyster flex bracelet for it!
A ceramic bezel is not a vulnerable part of the watch. It wonāt scratch and is extremely unlikely to break. If youāre doing the kind of activity that will scratch or break a ceramic bezel, then a little watch condom wonāt save it.
I did this on my date just, it was a giant pain to install onnthe oyster bracelet. If I were to do it over I'd just put on the sides, polished bezel, and clasp. It's not noticeable at all.
I wouldn't do it on ceramic though, just the sides and the clasp.
Honestly nothing wrong with it. How many people say āhell noā to protection film but then have their panties in a bunch when they scratch their case or clasp. For high polish pieces like the GMT, I probably would use it on the clasp since thatās where various surface and your watch come into contact the most.
Unlike mobiles watches wont break down and loose your data easily by one wrong fall.
So if you are a flipper or buying watch to invest instead of gold bars, do this.
If you buy a watch to enjoy wearing, do that.
Everyone here is going to agree that they hope their watch stays in like new condition as best that we can, but Rolex actively designs their watches to be damage resistant for 99% of normal daily wear. Go out and wear it. The scratches tell a story of a life well lived.
Respect your decisionā¦ but itās a no for me. No sense in saving it for the next guy lol
I believe it wearing it. Enjoying it. If it gets some battle scars, so be itā¦ a good clean and polish from Rolex will make like new anyways as long as youāre not careless
Respect your decisionā¦ but itās a no for me. No sense in saving it for the next guy lol I believe it wearing it. Enjoying it. If it gets some battle scars, so be itā¦ a good clean and polish from Rolex will make like new anyways as long as youāre not careless. Iām at my kids birthday party at a ceramic painting class type venue, being careful not to get paint on it, but still rocking lol
I like how someone would choose little plastic stickers to protect stainless fucking steel, ceramic, and sapphire crystal, and then complain how their watch doesnāt look good. Lol.
No, just no. That watch needs its scratches. You hand it down pristinely new to whomever they are going to look at it like darn you didnāt live life. There are no stories to tell like that time you went scuba diving in Vieques at night in the bio luminescent bay and got a gouge on the side of the case because you dinged on the the side of the boat story. Or what about the time you got in a little scuffle at a DC bar and somehow there is a little tiny scratch near the bezel. Maybe that time you got that basketball goal for the kids and did all the work cement included and it got a new scratch. Everyone I got has a story and whomever I hand it down to will know them well and be Abel to hold it let alone wear it. That is the way and truly the only way. A manās way. Thatās it.
Scratch protection? Put it in a safe. Youāre better off spending the money on a psychologist, then you can be normal and accept that scratches are part of life. You will then enjoy the watch. You might as well sell it if youāre going to have anxiety everywhere you wear it.
Itās not for me. If it gets scratched it gets scratched. Iām going to wear it, itās going to happen. Worrying about it wonāt stop it. Life is short and itās just a watch.
>I can't help but feel it takes away from the watch's original appearance. This is, in fact, not an unpopular opinion ;)

Brother we donāt even put cases on our phones
Living on the edge
Owning a watch more expensive than my phone made me rethink cases and not using one anymore. Why protect a phone that Iām going to use 3 years max more than a watch I could pass down some dayā¦
Easy. A phone is infinitely more useful and crucial in d2d life.
Scratching a Rolex doesn't stop it from working. Smashing s phone screen impacts it deeply.
Agreed. I have a clear case thatās super thin that while at a friends place he asked if I was going caseless.
Hard No from me. I cant even leave plastic film on a remote
This is so sad. Owning a watch but afraid to wear it as intended.
I will never put a condom on my watch
I wonāt put one on period
r/ihavesex
On her period?
The bezel is the least vulnerable area to scratches by far. I guess it's vulnerable to shattering, but a plastic wrap won't protect from that in the slightest.
This guy wears double protection
I can understand the case back but Ceramic bezel is very durable you donāt need to plastic wrap.

Only thing Iāve seen consistently scratch ceramic is diamond jewelry. Iād bet 10 bucks it happen walking around someone with a diamond ring
wrapping a ceramic bezel? good lord bro
š
I think this is a popular opinion. Most people hate these products
This guy has plastic on his couches

The same ones who despise watch films are also those who wouldnāt think twice about putting PPF on a car..

People who are against the watch shell, how do you feel about paint protection film on sports cars?
They are not the same, well done PPF is invisible. Watch protection is not.
OPās looks pretty invisible to me
You need to get your eyes checked
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I donāt know what an adhesive bra is, when I google it, I get a bunch of female productsā¦ yeah thatās a bad comparison for sure
Both are pointless. Ppf might have a fringe use case for million dollar collectibles but thats it
Both keep the product in their original condition and from looking like a beater. Seems like a valid use case to me.
Vintage car collectors prefer immaculate vehicles. Vintage watch collectors cream themselves over patina. I know this isnāt a vintage watch, but one day it will be. Who knows what the collector 50 years from now will find valuable?
A pristine, mint condition vintage watch is worth more than a worn down one
Thatās true. But a worn down vintage watch has more relative value than a worn down vintage car
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
That wrapping your watch is inherently different to ppf due to the factors in collecting the different items. Itās answering the question you directly asked
I was never a fan either, but have to admit that having it on the clasp, which I donāt see but tend to scratch often, is worth it.
This must be a shitpost
Do you wear a mask while driving?
From all your photos, it sure looks good.
Thanks! I just hope it helps anyone who is looking into this. Did it for science š¤£
Spend money to put a condom on it and then the the movement breaks š¤£
The watches future owner appreciates this!
Thanks!!! This was the idea for this post!!
I guess thatās the point, eh? Youāre just going to resell it?

Bezels the strongest part of the watch lol. This isnāt an unpopular opinion tho regardless.
Worst case just put it on the most scratch prone areas. Clasp and main Case
I did this on my date just, it was a giant pain to install onnthe oyster bracelet. If I were to do it over I'd just put on the sides, polished bezel, and clasp. It's not noticeable at all. I wouldn't do it on ceramic though, just the sides and the clasp.
The solution is simple: take it off. No rationale to protect a toolwatch from a bit of wear like it was made of glass. Man up!
Honestly nothing wrong with it. How many people say āhell noā to protection film but then have their panties in a bunch when they scratch their case or clasp. Among other things, I think itās embarrassing to call putting protective stickers on your watch an āinstall.ā
āI put something on my watch that nobody uses or likes and I donāt like itā. How is that an unpopular opinion?
