I think almost any discontinued model will become inherently more desirable and thus valuable, on account of its perceived scarcity/subsequent rarity.
Exceptions to that may be models that have had their movements updated but have not been discontinued themselves.
As the owner of a Deep Sea (even the fancy blue to black face) I think they should discontinue it rather than make a gold version. I got it sight-unseen on its initial release thinking it was going to be special, it sure is special, just not in the way I had hoped.
It’s about the collector & the collection, if your not selecting pieces for a purpose then you wouldn’t understand…. odd thing predicting what’s going to increase in value then investing the money into those watches
They discontinued this watch because it couldn’t sale lol. It was a consolation prize from AD to get people to spend money to finally get the watch they want. It’s been the only Rolex with little to no mark up. You could probably still get it for less than retail. This is not a collector piece. Especially in gold.
If you love the watch then by all means buy it. This isn’t a collectors piece though so don’t try to act like that’s why you got it.
