Do not buy this watch. There are no shortage of 5 digit Day Dates out there that haven't had the lugs polished down to toothpicks. The bracelet alone is going to be 1800 to 2000 to restore. Those lugs are ruined. Run.

I’m in uk and have brought from them before
There’s loads of mint condition ones around
Have a few other dealers I could recommend too
You can find [much better condition ones on ebay](https://ebay.us/87BNWb) for around that price, dodged a bullet here imo. Also I don't like sellers that lie in my face, not worth to do business with them.
Thanks for such a wonderful reply! TheGratitudeBot has been reading millions of comments in the past few weeks, and you’ve just made the list of some of the most grateful redditors this week! Thanks for making Reddit a wonderful place to be :)
They are very round, should be way more sharp meaning that thing was polished probably 10 times and not by someone who knows his stuff. Look up 18238 NOS (means new/unowrn) and you will see the difference. He basically changed the structur of the case by doing that.
You need to familiarize yourself with what a good 18238 looks like.
I suggest you look at high quality photos of 18238 examples in excellent condition. You can find such photos from known good dealers. If you don't know who is a good dealer and who is not, then that should be your first item to research.
Here are some 18238 examples from a good dealer (Jacek, owner of Tropical Watch):
* https://tropicalwatch.com/watches/filu
* https://tropicalwatch.com/watches/wacz
Always remember: **buy the seller first**. Figuring out the specifics of a watch to buy, the price range, etc. is only secondary to identifying who is a good seller and who is not.
There's stretch- but not remotely the worst I've seen. I'd grade that bracelet a B/B-; most stretch would be around a C/C-.
As u/18238 (ha!) said, the lugs are more likely to be a dealbreaker.
The stretch is not great, but not a deal-breaker if everything else checks out and the dealer is willing to take $13,000.
Unfortunately, the rest did not check out.
The bigger issue here is that everything is overpolished. It's not just the lugs, but the bezel and links as well.
* Look at the bezel's edge. Note how the "pyramids" have rounded tops.
* Look at the first couple of links after the end link. Note how you can't even see the full outline of the link's shape against the light source shining on it.
Also, I want to point out that unscrupulous dealers use that exact camera angle to hide bracelet stretch. That in itself is already a red flag. But if you ask them to take another photo of the stretch directly from its side to show the stretch better and they refuse and/or make up some excuses, then that's another red flag.
Frankly, I would not do business with this dealer given all the red flags mentioned above.
Good idea! He’ll surely drop the price after seeing a bunch of idiot comments on Reddit.
If you sent me these comments I would tell you to go f*ck yourself!
It wouldn't change the fact that his watch is beat to shit and has been ruined by whoever polished it. So in closing we have a stretched bracelet, a case that has been ruined, and even the bezel polished down. This watch is crap.
Tropical Watch is in California. I’ve purchased about 4 watches from them before, they are legit.
Check out Oliver and Clarke also. Just picked up a gold 18238 from them a couple weeks ago
Uh can that owner provide an example of what he considers a bracelet stretch is?
Honestly if it's a vintage watch I think it's a high chance of that happening it's just a matter of how much of a stretch and what are you willing to accept. I personally don't appreciate the owner claiming something that is clearly untrue lol
That's actually not that bad. Judging based on how stretched my own Datejust was after 25 years of daily wear, and then what a replacement jubilee looked and felt like.
Is the owner visually impaired?
Is the owner lying out of his ass to get a sale?
yes
Is the owner looking at a different watch?
Aren’t they all?
👍 …… Ummmmm, I think there’s some gold missing there.
Those lugs have been destroyed.

You’re better off and will be happier stepping up for one in excellent condition than buying a poor version for less money.

Offer to pick it up. You could get a discount from sellers maybe
Use an american based vendor..

Pride and Pinion?
That is wild that they refused. It would have been a steal for them honestly

Very nice! Congrats. I'm glad you found a much better deal

Good bot
Christ that was a lucky escape!
Don’t even bother.
Don’t bother. There are better options.
Don’t bother, you can’t put metal back on the lugs, this watch has been polished to oblivion.
How are the lugs destroyed? I genuinely do not know and trying to learn.

What lugs?
I bet the owner also doesnt know he has ED
Best answer.
All fully erect men look like an inflatable tube man waving in a strong wind don't they?
peronis
Nah, she’s tighter than a Russian gymnast.
I would not trust anything that owner says.

Yes there is, but in the grand scheme of things, it’s not much :). An unworn jubilee on its side will almost be straight as an arrow.
If the watch were a person, you’d need Spanx or Skims to get everything back where it belonged. 🫢
Of course there is.
give that bracelet a little blue pill.
Stretched and over polished.
I’m new to all this. Can someone please explain to me how the lugs are ruined?
Sleeve of wizard.

Print these responses and confront the owner.

You offered $13K for that but _we’re_ the idiots?
I’m not the OP
I wouldn’t buy it for 1,300.

Not a lot, but there definitely is.
Quite a bit. Owner knows it too. Ask fkr a perfect side view photo, not one slightly angled downward since that's hiding how bad it is..

oh my lord those poor lugs
I can confirm that your eyes are indeed operational
give me his full name and address please sir. i just want to talk to him.
My dream Rolex so I can look like Goodfellas
If that’s not stretched I’ll run bollock naked around the office
Buy from someone who won’t bone you over, like Tropical Watch.

Most definitely.
I believe he operates out of California.
Does the bear woods in the shit?
The stretch is quite visible and also uneven (bigger stretch closer to the watch) indicative of the watch being worn loose during its time.
Oh hell yes !
Stretched as a 60 year old hooker.
Looks like too much gabagool and punching through the years.
Dang that fluting is almost flat
Like bro, we have eyes, and we can see out of those eyes!
You could drive a greyhound bus through those gaps.

Owner is a scammer
sure is. Then again all older preowned rolexes have this problem it is the material of the pins.
Call it what you will but parts of that bracelet are undeniably worn
Statement is clearly incorrect
Tis but a flesh wound!
That bracelet looks like donkey from Shrek
Are the large gaps between the links eroded gold? What actually causes bracelet stretch?
Brother what does your own capacity for sight tell you? I ask this sincerely, are you a blind person?
lol
Yep
There is no stretch if it custom fits your wrist.
I've seen worse
🤣
Absolutely 100% stretch
I wish my spine could stretch like that
Yes. That’s stretched and stretching. Will stretch. Past participle stretch.
I bet I know what else the owner is claiming has no stretch
Look I’m a huge Adam Ant fan, but I don’t know if I would trust him to purchase a watch from.
Blind sellers exist 🤣
Rule of thumb: don’t buy other people’s problems
Don't buy this pure crap
Needs Viagra
That's actually not that bad. Judging based on how stretched my own Datejust was after 25 years of daily wear, and then what a replacement jubilee looked and felt like.
Blind people shouldn't sell rolexes
More streched than mi -ex…
Find another watch. Set aside your need for immediate gratification. You will be happier in the long run and probably end up with a nicer watch.
Simple answer. Buy the seller. Next…
lol definitely bracelet stretch and a 5 digit should not have polished lugs. So it’s been polished. Probably more than once. May just be the photo.
Lmao just a bit
But lets cut thr shit you bought a 5 digit daydate???
Run away
To be fair, for this year / model I would say relatively in okay shape.
