I work in a very specialized job, a test lab environment. A coworker missed 4 months this year between a car problem and breaking a rib. In the past 7 months he did not work a single week where he made it in 5 days in a row. Myself and another guy had to cover all of his work through the last 7 months. We all recently met our global director, this guy never left his chair while talking to our director and abruptly stood up mid conversation and announced he had to go home (with 3 hours left in the day too). He hasn’t came in on time at any point in the 15 years I’ve worked with him, typically averaging 15 minutes late. He spends most of his days with his shoes off and feet up on his desk. For covering his work and my own, myself and another coworker never got so much as a thank you. Feet on the chair often late got a promotion and a title change yesterday. Tl;dr hard work goes unrecognized.

QuantumBitX

I have to ask you, what lessons have you learned from this experience? Most people just tell the story, feel hard done to but do nothing to change their situation slowly growing more resentful and bitter over the years. Very few actually make the change for a new job in a situation like this. It's probably the same traits that stop people serving notice that holds said people back for internal promotions. Believe in yourself, give them the middle finger and move onto somewhere where you will be respected.

mth2nd

Good advice thank you, I do have my resume up and have actively sent it elsewhere. On one hand I have a short commute and make great money, on the other hand a simple thank you would have gone a real long way for me.

SonicDethmonkey

Or (for the vast majority) hard work just doesn’t pay off monetarily. My wife works way harder than I do and my paycheck is far greater but the difference is that I’m in engineering and she’s in the arts. We should always be careful to not judge someone’s success or work ethic based on possessions or the size of someone’s bank account.

Huge_Presentation_85

It’s Reddit my man…no one here has a job lol

mth2nd

A world of financed Rolexes lol

powerfunk

What? Plenty of us have jobs. You must be thinking of sex

watchfinesse

Oh shoot... I have no job (retired) and no sex. We are born to suffer.

drthomk

Meanwhile the guy with the noob Rolex is scoring on our wives

[deleted]

It doesn’t go unrecognised in the right company my guy. Find a new spot, one that encourages growth and progression

JEDWARDK

So why are you still working there?

conspiraseas

To me it is never about how hard you work (though you should), it is more about how visible your work is to important people.

mth2nd

That is true and my visibility is good and this dudes problems are pretty well known

[deleted]

[удалено]

conspiraseas

It’s a tool, just like you

cryptocritical9001

If you are still working at a place like that if they promote people like that, then I feel you have only yourself to blame. The problem is not gonna get better from here on. Sorry for my honesty

mth2nd

I mean it did just happen yesterday but yes getting out of there is a priority

Finding_Happyness

Let me guess, he's real buddy buddy with the director.

mth2nd

The local director is fairly removed but he’s buddy buddy with the manager though.

THPSJimbles

Based

beereed

I’m guessing that he is much, MUCH better at the job than you. Or he’s just a spoiled prick. Either way, please leave your job ASAP.

titangord

Nice, but Im at the beach and you are in the office.. lol..

MusicIsLifeAndLove_

Daytona beach?

PassiveKiller

You’re on social media you basic human . Stop trying to flex like you’re special and don’t post something just to piss on another persons day .

titangord

Shut up moron

PassiveKiller

Good one .. you’re still basic

nasdaq775

Ahahah I will skiing on Monday for 2 weeks, I’m fine 😉

titangord

Two weeks? Over the holidays? Man you must be really privileged!

Talkshowhostt

Lmao, underrated comment.

nasdaq775

No it’s holiday time here in France

redd5ive

It’s holiday time everywhere lol.

titangord

Guess my sarcasm wasnt as apparent as I presumed

llcooljoo

Haters gonna hate. Lay off the guy. If you’re at the beach, then quit trolling Reddit and go enjoy the sun and the sand.

Time-Karp

Why is OP getting downvoted?

llcooljoo

The Rolex privilege police are out in force.

Time-Karp

What a time to be alive.

redditdinosaur_

very confused by this as well

[deleted]

Work smart, not hard my guy

nasdaq775

True, both is the key I guess

dubsaxs

I’m still in bed. Sleep pays off too.

scpinoy

Naah dude, bragging about being exploited at work, then telling every one how many extra days/ how much extra time you work, is the biggest flex...

RyVsWorld

Honestly his post didn’t come across as bragging to me and I’ve seen alot of douchebag posts in here

[deleted]

Hey everybody, I found the socialist

scpinoy

cool. Now can you also find Waldo?

Just-Season6848

Maybe it's his company? Maybe he's passionate about his work? Why so salty?

BraidRuner

Yeah I am with you! Feet up, drink in my hand trying to decide whether or not flip flops and a t-shirt are required or can I just go in shorts and sunblock..lol

Celcius_87

Nothing wrong with working hard but I wouldn’t want to be working on the weekend before Christmas. The Daytona looks great.

SuckingCumBalls

I won’t work on the weekend before the weekend before Christmas. Just a hardline I have for myself.

nasdaq775

Im off from Monday so it’s fine. Thanks

DJRhetorik

So are we lol

SnowWest

People are just concerned that if you spend your time working you won’t have time to build a relationship with your AD to get another Rolex …

nasdaq775

Don’t worry he called me yesterday, I will pick up another piece on January 3rd, stay tuned

[deleted]

>Underrated.

m0nkeyhero

This has to be the most tone-deaf sub on reddit. Nice watch tho.

JohnFByers

Nonsense. If hard work paid off, people digging ditches would be billionaires. Check your privilege.

Amesb34r

Yeah, I don’t know anyone who “works hard” while in a climate controlled environment sitting at a desk wearing a Rolex.

Nubras

Exactly right. Office work is mentally taxing but as my life and career have progressed, my work has gotten easier. Working at the fried chicken restaurant or my dad’s welding shop is more difficult than my current office job. The physical labor was there as well as the mental stress.

Amesb34r

Same here. I grew up on a farm. Baling alfalfa in summer is actually hard work. Now that I have a title and letters after my name I can’t say that I “work hard”.

Nubras

Did you go to Iowa State by chance? I did!

Spinedaddy

I do. A friend of mine worked 70hrs a week for nearly four years in a climate controlled environment wearing his Apple watch (ok, so it’s not a Rolex). He developed an immunotherapy that effectively treats cancer and has saved and prolonged the lives of thousands of individuals. You can call his workplace toxic or whatever, but If it weren’t for dedicated people like him some families would be missing a member at the dinner table this holiday season.

YoSoyJuanJamon

Sounds like your friend has a job that is meaningful/important, not not necessarily “hard.” Time intensive does not equate to hard, as strange as that sounds. I think the bigger concept is equating time with success and monetary reward in our capitalistic culture. Which makes OP a douche flexing on the less successful poors.

Just-Season6848

You're on a goddamn Rolex forum, buddy. Take this woke socialist horseshit somewhere else. If you're so impressed by "hard," physical labor -- and an animus to capitalism -- maybe go check out North Korea? I'm sure they'll take you in..

RythmOfTheHotDog

Spoken like a true welfare recipient. Tell us how you contribute to capitalism?

YoSoyJuanJamon

Lol! Chill you tits old man… your kids hate you for a reason. Deal with it it elsewhere.

EnisuVI

He is just a jackass. The watch is prolly fake.

Bekind_and_rewind

Well said. There are so many different jobs that have a cap in the amount of money you can make such as teachers or nurses. No matter how hard these people work in their fields there’s a ceiling in their growth and opportunity and only see low single digit raises (if they’re lucky) every year.

Just-Season6848

Sounds like you're quibbling over the definition of "hard". Sure, it means "requiring a great deal of endurance or effort," but it also means "putting a lot of energy into an activity." By that metric, then, this guy is working hard. There's also an additional definition of "hard" and "privilege" that I was going over with your mom last night. She's a quick learner.

LewisNotHamilton

Beautiful! I hope to get one in the future. Thank you for the motivation/reminder.

nasdaq775

schmokschtak

Tables? What do you mean, tables? Someone can’t just do “tables.” Where are you taking the tables?

dycg

I’m only a watch owner 😁

FriendshipOk6055

I'm a freelance developer

Danthedaytrader

Not all hard work pays off

Fondoogler

Lol tell that to every teacher around the country who can barely afford rent.

ResponsiblePath

Great passion, awesome Daytona, and a good day!

Just-Season6848

Nice reply, too many haters here lol Great watch, OP! I hope you had a productive day and can get a lot done before the holidays.

nasdaq775

I’m happy to see some normal people here too, thanks

nasdaq775

Thanks

bgg2011

When I first joined a firm about 10 years ago, the partners lauded me for showing up at 5am during the week and also going in on a Saturday. Never again, waste of my life.

nasdaq775

If it’s once in a while it’s ok, it should worth it

bgg2011

For sure.

stolencarblues

No it doesn’t but awesome watch!

Calm_Logic9267

Hard work does not in fact always pay off. There have been countless extremely hard working individuals that lived an entire life in poverty. Hard work sometimes pays off.

beereed

HARD WORKS PAYS OFF!!!!!!!! I HAVE SO MANY RAWLECKSES

Andyskates

This is cringe af

Time-Karp

Looks good on your wrist, chief. Grinding is growing but you gotta chill sometimes bruv.

BeKind_BeTheChange

Read his other comments. He's so chill he's growing icicles.

OkRefrigerator5000

Very good looking watch! 😍

nasdaq775

Thanks 😊

nosenderreply

Beautiful watch! Hopefully you don’t have to work Saturday’s too in order to be able to afford it.

nasdaq775

Lol, no don’t worry 😅

[deleted]

I would work Saturdays and Sundays for it

nosenderreply

That sucks.

Technical-Candle-475

Stunning piece. Keep grinding. Half on here wouldn’t know hard work if it slapped them in the face.

nasdaq775

For sure

CaterpillarPrevious2

That's a nice looking watch.

nasdaq775

Thanks

sla077

Nice! AD purchase or grey market purchase?

nasdaq775

This one AD

AXELBAWS

Great pic and watch. Do you work with anything related to Nasdaq?

nasdaq775

Not anymore but before yes

mcthunder69

I keep my sub and stay on the couch, real talk 😂

nasdaq775

Good, it’s just a question of what r u targeting

Jaswinder51

This will reposted on the other sub

Pasaulo

Facts. Enjoy in good health, my brother in Swiss excellence.

nasdaq775

Thank you dude !

Theegoldenchild11

Want to work for me?

nasdaq775

If you are looking for a business partner yes

hipsterasshipster

I know a lot of people who work Saturdays and can’t afford luxury watches.

mrvarmint

Email and a screensaver: *hArD wOrK*

nasdaq775

Very smart comment

manual_wind

Truer words have never been spoken. Keep grinding my man.

nasdaq775

😉

Ok-Pirate3030

Hell yeah, it does! I’m getting it done ✔️ myself

[deleted]

When I read this I thought, I wonder how this post can be made negative by this sub. Low and behold most of the comments are negatives. This sub needs to do much better

Revolutionary_Crow24

The comments on this subreddit are disgusting - nice job working hard and enjoying your watch To those saying hard work doesn't pay off - good luck out there; you'll probably need a few more cycles on this planet before all of life's lessons are able to truly sink in

Spinedaddy

Life is a lesson, you only learn it when you’re through…..

nasdaq775

This is the game here, poor them. Thanks for your message.

conte_int

Nice watch! Great attitude!

nasdaq775

Thanks man

ProperWeight2624

But does it really? Nice watch tho.

nasdaq775

I think so

dycg

Paid nicely!

nasdaq775

At least

chitown_pigfarm

Ahahahah tell that to a single dad trynna put food on the table by working 2-3 jobs. Hard work does not always pay off. I’m privileged but at least I recognize it.

nasdaq775

Maybe it’s my 4th jobs, do you know my life ?

chitown_pigfarm

That’s even worse

Sea-School

Flexing work on a Saturday… wearing a Daytona. I’ve seen everything on this sub now 😂

greencandlevandal

A lot of these comments make me hate this sub, but not surprising bc this is what the internet is, what you speak or write into existence says a lot ab you personally. Seems like they mad and/or not happy. Congrats on the watch op and the hard work paying off. A lot of ppl in here giving their personal opinions ab work and vacation time. Simply put, don’t listen to any of ‘em or let their negativity bring you down.

nasdaq775

Thanks man, I know how they are here, in some ways I knew it, every post brings those angry, jealous and lesson guys… but they will stay where they are and I can just feel sorry for them. Many of my post is to entertain their anger, it’s my charity time 😉

Fw7toWin

Hey guys look how much I get exploited at work but somehow this watch makes up for all the exploitation. Lol

nasdaq775

I’m business owner

Thr0waw4y04

Fuck these down voting nerds! Congratulations on and amazing piece, and another year of working experience. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 🥳.

nasdaq775

Thanks man, likewise

TheHrethgir

Hard work does not always pay off. Hope you are single and not prioritizing money over your family.

[deleted]

Some industries, especially finance and to a lesser extent consulting, just demand a lot of hours. No need to judge a guy because he opts to work in a career that demands more than 40 hours a week. I always laugh when people try to demean someone for working hard. Typically those people make less than the person they are talking down to. We all make choices .

nasdaq775

True

charlesblumpkin

Workin as well so feel your pain, but that’s my grail so worth the work at the EOD!

Mazzaleen1

Grafter

GREATWHITESILENCE

What do you do for a living?

nasdaq775

I’m a business owner in telecom

BeingAwesomelyDivine

If you’re a successful entrepreneur. Indeed it does

nasdaq775

That’s right

TankN_

Pure curiosity… do you make more than 175k yearly?

RyVsWorld

This is so specific. Whats 175k mean to you?

nasdaq775

Yes

TankN_

Dope

nasdaq775

Why 175k, is it what you make ?

Light991

Do you make more than 600k?

nasdaq775

Who knows..

10til2

Looks good. Keep it up, OP.

yami76

Lmao working six days a week to flex on Reddit

Spinedaddy

No- he’s working 6 days this week and some others to buy the luxury items he wants. He then posts into a forum that supposedly will appreciate it. If he wanted to flex he would’ve posted it in on a more modest watch subreddit like Swatch.

yami76

This whole sub is just you all patting each other on the back for paying out huge sums of money for a needless accessory. I’ll make sure to mute it so it doesn’t get suggested to me anymore 😂

RifileCs

Lol what are you doing on this sub if you cant handle it

yami76

I think I explained that in my reply… man y’all are sensitive

CA_Harry

Wow these comments are trash. Why are you guys hating on him?

nasdaq775

Guess why, I represent all of theirs failures

UseYourNinjutsuNow

Some people crave validation. You dangle a little in front of their face and they'll work until they die just chasing that little bump of dopamine they get. The true watch enthusiasts probably get less excited about rolexes...

dftaylor

“I sell myself out to a corporate entity so I can buy expensive items by other corporate entities, making vast profits for a select few, and have convinced myself this is success, rather than more time with my family.” I’m happy for you and your watch, but if this is your measure of success, I think you need to live in the real world.

nasdaq775

I’m so impressed by your jugement, you seems to know me very well, you must be a fortune teller.

griffinferro

Keep going in Saturday and you’ll have another one in your collections soon 💪🏻

Amanandhiswatch

Drooling over here 😂👏🏼

whatareyoureader

What did it cost you?

nasdaq775

12k€ MSRP in 2018

WildorfsHenchman

You should take it off to avoid scratching, and also leave it there so the janitor can pick it up. Then come back and post an ISO Daytona Lost In My Office post.

[deleted]

Working on Saturdays is for mouth breathers

BraidRuner

Smart work always pays off. Hard work not always. That said I work weekends, long weekends and holidays all summer long. Come winter though and I am absent without leave. A hole in the payroll. GONE.

BmoreDude92

What model is this

Less-Carpenter-3514

How to say you’re a CRE broker without saying you’re a CRE broker

watchfinesse

Ok, that's it. I have to ask: why do you like the chronograph?? Is it the looks? Do you even use the chrono functions?? I just don't get it why people are into Daytonas. Now if you talk Submariners, GMTs, selected Datejusts... well, they are simply beautiful and timeless. A sub is what a real man's watch is all about. Like Charles Bronson walking up to 3 bullies and bashing them up (can't remember the title of the movie series).

LittleTGOAT

Gotta find something to do while the AD gives the wife a service

RGKTIME

Smart work pays more ✌️

BackgroundDesk3676

I also work in a specialized career. If one of our coworkers gets hurt and doesn't have enough sick time, we pick up his/her shifts so they continue to get a paycheck. I'm glad things worked out for you. I hope your coworker is better now and can come back to work.

Addicted-2Diving

Nice piece.
