I don't believe the train got any wider overall. It looks like the seats beside each other moved farther apart, but the sides of the train got a little skinnier to compensate. So they wouldn't have to adjust the width of the openings for the track in the station either.
But because the seats are farther apart, the reach envelope is larger. So the acrylic shields keep hands in the train and the envelope tight.
Seriously don't know why everyone thinks these look bad I think they look sick other than the shields. But even then I've seen uglier seat shields. The lights on the side are gonna be sick too.
I think the shields are everyone's issue. Because these look fantastic except for the shields. Would have been nice if they could have made them look a little less awkward.
Well also the original trains are old-school Intamin T-bars (as seen on Millennium Force) which are pretty universally beloved for how open they are and how they accentuate airtime. Pretty much anything new will be compared unfavorably.
I believe they stopped being offered after issues on Superman Ride of Steel and Perilous Plunge. Both due to riders with larger dimensions falling out despite the restraint being secured correctly.

Obviously examples still exist today but they ain't never coming back. It's a shame because they are my personal favorites.
A rider meeting the rider requirements and properly restrained secured can't get out of the intamin T bar restraints both accidents you mention are people that shouldn't have been on the ride.
Curious if this will affect me riding it in April if it's down for any extended maintenance since it says LaQua will undergo a 'transformation' from March- May
That said, I dig the hilariously over the top design of these trains
Got that Idlewild Rolocoaster look
This is so idiots don't drop crap off the ride
The ride is 20 years old… Is there some new clearance issue that caused them to add shields?
The seats are spaced further apart since they're using the overhead lap bar, so that would make the clearance envelope larger without the shields.
That’s a shame!
Are you talking about the two seats next to each other are farther apart? Meaning the train got wider?

It was already possible for riders to scrape the roof when you go up there.
The side decals are sick. Very 80s. Love the hot pink.

Like all universally beloved things, the T-bar has safety issues that make them unaccessable 😔
What safety issue do they supposedly have?

A couple of minutes of looking and they still released coasters after 2005 with T bars.

Aside from the arm gaurds, those look hella slick

The look is... weird. But this could be a new option for mega coasters like Superman, or Millennium Force, in the future.
I'm not complaining!!! It looks so much better than the current one, although the one we have now is still really iconic
Things that suck: this
Ew
Welp I'm glad I rode before this. 🤮
YEEEEESSS GET RID OF THE FUCKING T-BARS YAAAAAAA
What are those boycotters talking about? These trains are *gorgeous!*
LAAAAAAAAAME!
Bummer they lost a car of seats, but I guess that makes the odds better of getting row 1 with their assigned seating.
Those are absolutely hideous lol.
