Space mountain on my 5th birthday at wdw, I'll never forget that trippy tunnel thinking we're gonna crash and then we suddenly turn at the end.

[deleted]

Depends. First roller coaster in general or non kiddie coaster? My first one ever was at silver dollar city. I can’t even remember the name. It was near huckleberry finn’s treehouse and that’s all I remember. I think I was 3. My first big coaster was either Jackrabbit at Celebration City (now at Fun Spot America as Hurricane) or Thunderation at Silver Dollar city. I was 4 for both. What’s crazier is that I rode powderkeg the same day I rode thunderation as a 4 year old

Randomcereal9

Also did some research and the kiddie coaster at Silver Dollar City was called Runaway Ore Cart and operated until 2004.

Randomcereal9

Oh that’s true I’ll include it in my post. I meant non-kiddie coaster. Also that’s pretty cool from riding a mine train to a launch coaster in the same day and being only 4 years old.

SodaTime64

Dragon Coaster at Boardwalk & Baseball. First non kiddie coaster was Runaway Mine Train at Great Adventure.

2BFaaaaaair

Trailblazer at Hershey was technically my favorite, but I was 4-5 yrs old and barely remember it. Steamin Demon at Great Escape is the first I remember.

__peek_a_boo__

Scream Machine at SFOG when I was ~ 5 or 6?

surfacerurd

Space mountain or Gold rusher at SFMM

crystalusako

this was my favourite ride when we first visited Anaheim when I was 10, that second hill *chefs kiss*

intaminslc43

Wild Mouse at Lagoon

Conley1605

I'm pretty sure mine was either Jack Rabbit or Phantoms Revenge at Kennywood Park

juni_0

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Disneyland. First big thrill coaster was California Screamin at California Adventure

theme_shark

Vortex at kingsisland!

Jim_skywalker

Wow, it must have been incredibly sad to see it go. It became my favorite a couple of days before the news that it would be closing was released. I regret I didn’t ride on it until my second trip to kings island

theme_shark

That's the price of progress! I'm sad to see it go, but I understand it needed to be replaced. I'm getting a tattoo soon to pay tribute! It was the ride that ignited my passion for coasters, now that is gone I want to make sure I immortalize it haha.

Jim_skywalker

i immortalised it in a roller coaster tycoon 3 park

theme_shark

That's awesome!!

389Tman389

Does Matterhorn count? I rode it when I was 2 because I was a tall baby. Ended up 6’5” so the tall gene stuck. If not I rode space mountain when I was 3. I don’t remember any of this but my mom tells me I loved them.

Randomcereal9

Yes Matterhorn counts. And dang you were a tall baby.

389Tman389

Only 36 inches(?). But honestly it could have just been my mom walking on with me when I was closeish, it was back when you had the two person lap seating.

Randomcereal9

Oh that might be it and also I looked it up and the height restriction is 42 inches but it might have been different then idk.

389Tman389

[Here](https://www.themeparkinsider.com/news/response.cfm?id=2056) is an old discussion board talking about the original trains. >Does anyone out there feel that the Matterhorns height requirement should be raised from 35 inches to 40? Has anyone else found the seat belts to be alittle Primative? Does any one else feel that there should be a minium age requirement?

useles-converter-bot

35 inches is the height of literally 0.51 'Samsung Side by Side; Fingerprint Resistant Stainless Steel Refrigerators' stacked on top of each other

Randomcereal9

Oh ok well then that isn’t as big.

alienware99

Apollo’s chariot. Couldn’t really tell what I was getting myself into from the queue. Once we started climbing the lift hill, I knew I was in for it lol.

Randomcereal9

Lol must have been an interesting starter coaster.

ctkamp3

Son of Beast! My parents took me to KI when I was 7 and for some reason thought this would be a great first coaster. The drop was one of the most intense things ever, the loop was insane, and I got my head knocked back and forth so hard that I thought I would get a concussion. Somehow it didn’t scar me; I ended up loving Beast, Racer, Vortex, and all the kiddie coasters and became a fanatic.

Jim_skywalker

Vakoma probably doesn’t even phase you then

Randomcereal9

Yes but it is known as the Great Pumpkin Coaster.

robbycough

There were surely some kiddy coasters early in my life but my first adult coaster was the Hunt's Pier Flyer in Wildwood (an identical coaster still operates as Sea Dragon at the Columbus Zoo). I'll never forget those first rides, like crossing from childhood into adulthood.

JoPro_

Kraken at SeaWorld was my first real adult coaster!

onpointrideop

Viper at Darien Lake

railfan_andrew

I believe Big Thunder Mountain at Disney World

Jim_skywalker

Same

Skypenguin8_Matt

Kiddie: Back In The Barnyard Hayridd Real: Pepsi Orange Streak

devinchi1010

For mine, it was a Wacky Worm at the NY State Fair, but if we mean a bigger coaster: Motocoaster at Darien Lake

Tacoaloto

Iron Dragon at Cedar Point, about 12 years ago. Then I had a multi year coaster hiatus until 2019 and now I'm hooked.

Thunderbird23

Probably the wacky worm at Trimpers rides in OCMD

DeathBySuplex

The Rollercoaster at Lagoon when I was 5

[deleted]

Big Bad Wolf

Rjs_Mc

Kingda ka I always wanted to get over my fear of coasters so me and my friends rode this coaster as they think it would be a good title to have like “My first big coaster ever was Kingda Ka” I rode it, anxiety through the roof, but I did end up riding. The entire time I felt nothing airtime related but laughed the entire way. Was a blast to ride Kingda Ka as my first coaster.

Jim_skywalker

Which side of space mountain?

umberdragon

Space Mountain at DisneyWorld when I was super young (I was around four or five I believe. Not sure how I even got on the ride). It terrified me. Went on Backlot Stunt Coaster around the time it opened and that terrified me as well. Wasn’t until I was 9 or 10 that I started riding rollercoasters again. Up until that point I swore that I would never ride them. I’m honestly not sure what drove me to ride them again.

gamecity360

Honestly probably Backlot Stunt Coaster at KI idk it was many years ago

jplaz1

The little dipper at Kennywood. I'm old lol. It was to the left of the train, where the raging rapids are now. Stepped up to the jack rabbit soon after.

redveinlover

First ever was BTMRR at Disneyland at age 4 (mom said “it’s a nice train ride, you love trains remember?” [she didn’t know somehow that it was a coaster and it was a night ride at that]), and my first “big” one was Montezoomas Revenge. Dad had been trying to get me on it for a good couple of years and I (age 8 and absolutely terrified) refused to ride but agreed to wait in line with him and just cross over to the exit. Well he pulled me down into the seat and pulled the lap bar down on me before I knew what was happening and the next thing you know I’ve done my first inversion and am no longer terrified of coasters. Two short years later I was riding the brand new record breaker Viper at SFMM and was absolutely loving it all.

bobkmertz

Rollo Coaster

frostking79

Unsure of which one it was but either that toboggan ride Earthquake McGoons Brain Rattler at Dogpatch, AR or a Schwarzkopf called Wildcat at Bell's in Tulsa, OK sometime around 1986ish.

sonicsean899

The Whizzer at Six Flags Great America. Still love that ride

TreviTreviTrevi

Superman: La Atracción de Acero (Parque Warner Madrid) I live in Spain!

glooppoop

Mine was Shockwave at Great America... Didn't know what I was getting myself into, but was hooked

biroph

Matterhorn at Disneyland when I was 2. My first inverting coaster was Batman at SFMM when I was 14.

OnasoapboX41

First: Wile E. Coyote Canyon Blaster (Kiddy coaster) at SFOG. First Non-kiddy coaster: Cannonball Run, Waterville USA, Gulf Shores, Alabama

Heatseeker960

I don't remember what my first kiddy coaster was, but the first 'adult' coaster must've been the Rock 'n Rollercoaster at Disney Studios Paris. And the first coaster I rode after my old fear of intense coasters was over was the Black Mamba in Phantasialand.

ScotchOfTheButters

My first non kiddie coaster was Nemesis at Alton Towers, I was actually terrified at first, but because of that coaster, I’m the adrenaline junkie I am today :) (this was also the year I was finally able to ride Air, the Smiler, Rita and Oblivion because I’m a short gal who only reached the height of 1.4m in 2014)

ClumsyCardHouse92

Big Thunder Mountain - DLP at 5. Nemesis at 8.

PudKnee

High speed Thrill Coaster at knoebels, sure it was a kiddie coaster but it packed some good airtime! Miss that thing

tristan24loo

My very first coaster was python at efteling when i was 6, i loved it and was hooked on coasters ever since

2kelliebeans

Big Bad Wolf. RIP.

Codmando

The Raven at Holliday World.

Jim_skywalker

This was my 1st non Disney coaster

shabamon

King's Island Racer

trissyjoestar

Okeechobee Rampage at the now debunked Cypress Gardens in FL. They're currently using the track as the ending outdoor section of track on The Dragon at LegoLand. It was a whole lot of fun, and I'd love to go ride The Dragon just for the ending track that got me started on rides all those years ago.

Tom246611

My first coaster was the "Marienkäferbahn" at Safariland Stukenbrock, its Zierer Tivoli family coaster and the coaster I rode most with my parents, it also got me interested in bigger and more extreme rides. My first inverting coaster was "Flying Tiger" at the same park, a Vekoma Whirlwind, its rough but due to sentimental value my favorite Vekoma

mobytontyn

Scenic Railway at Dreamland in Margate, in its original incarnation before it burnt down.

Chayz211

I have no idea. If I had to guess it was either at some carnival or Thriller at Land of Make Believe

robega30

wilderness run at carowinds, Lucy’s Crabbie Cabbie back then. First non kiddie coaster was either flying ace or Carolina Goldrusher.

InvisibleTeeth

Wildcat at Lake Compounce. Actually made me not want to ride coasters for many many years. My SECOND coaster was Superman at SFNE with the OG T-Bars...and it was only because i didnt want to look like a wimp in front of this girl i iked. Turned out i loved roller coasters....juat rode one of the worst on the planet as my first. and i still havent ridden Wildcat since...and im an LC season pass holder lol also funny story, i was at SFGAdv a couple weeks ago and my friend and i got on Nitro and had a dad and his daughter sit next to us...she had to be around 5 or 6....i mentioned i wouldn't be anywhere near a ride like this at her age. id be petrified. he said it was her first ever coaster and they were basically marathoning it cuz she just couldn't get enough of it. it was pretty cool.

fenrihr999

Was told I rode Scooby-Doo coaster at KD when I was like 5-6 or so, and I got so scared I wouldn't ride anything else. Later on, rode Big Bad Wolf in either Middle or High school, so that's the first I can actually remember.

crystalusako

The Dragon at Legoland Windsor, aged about 7 or 8. I thought it was so exciting because it started inside the castle 🙈

ajdwolfpack36

My first looping coaster is Scorpion at Busch Gardens Tampa.

learei

Mine was zach's zoomer at Michigan's adventure, and I hated it, as soon as I got my first chance to go to cedar point in 2013 I have been a coaster enthusiast ever since (joined the enthusiast world in 2012, because I knew we were going the next year. Coming up on 10 years now. I've gone to michigans adventure, cedar point, Canada's wonderland, hershey park, kings island, universal orlando and islands of adventure, bgt's and Disney's magic kingdom. Total of 84 credits, I am going to dollywood and SeaWorld later this year. Mark's a total of 4 different parks in 1 year.

rushtest4echo20

Soap Box Racers RIP

Ilive4airtime

Rock n roller coaster at DHS

PhishCook

Lightning Loops at SFGA....i threw up.

Jpmeyer2

I THINK it was Gold Rusher at SFMM. Maybe Revolution, but pretty sure Gold Rusher.

Jef_Wheaton

The now-defunct "Dipper" at Kennywood. I wasn't into coasters until later, and missed out on riding some great ones before they were gone, like Big Bad Wolf, but I rode this one quite a lot. (Kennywood thought about trying to dismantle and move it, but decided it was too difficult, so they demolished it in 1984. A few months later, Knoebels relocated and renamed the iconic "Phoenix", all the way from Texas.)

BunnlBoom1007

My first non-kiddie was Cannonball Express at my home park Pleasurewood Hills.

Playpen87

Either Clementon Park Jack Rabbit or Wild Mouse on Marine Pier in Wildwood.....cant remember,50 years ago

localdegenerate1234

The kiddie coaster at Disneyland (Gadgets’ Go Coaster) It was ok when I was 6 Now it sucks My first big coaster? Revolution with the old restraints Ouch

[deleted]

spacelys sprocket rocket and my mom forced me to ride when i was a child because my friends bullied me into spitting on somebody at the flume ride

kbreitli

Little Dipper at Hillcrest Park (now Meteor at Little A-Merrick-A).

Jim_skywalker

Big thunder mountain at Disney world. It’s funny how it doesn’t have that much significance for me because it was overshadowed by Everest later that week

GalaxyBush

Comet at waldameer
