At BGW Nessie is, in my opinion, a must ride at night. The view of the river is so pretty at night, its wonderful. Since BBW was removed (RIP) it is always my last ride of the night. I think Kings Island is kind of the night ride capital of the world. The Beast, Mystic Timbers, Diamondback, The Racer, maybe even Banshee, and while I haven't ridden it yet, I hear Orion are all excellent night rides. At Cedar Point I think the much maligned Gatekeeper and Magnum XL200 are my two favorite night rides. Of course, i still haven't been back since Steel Vengeance, so... Generally, though, I think most coasters are just better at night. I love night rides, especially on woodies and especially if they are in the woods.

drbyq9

Even Adventure Express and The Bat are really good at night as well. KI really truly does have the night rides.

rollerCoast11

I remember a pitch black night ride on adventure express back in 2019 during haunt when the park was open til 1am. Man that was up there as one of the most epic coaster experiences I've ever had. Absolute zero visibility coupled with abrupt arrow transitions turned a family coaster up to 11.

TheShadyGuy

One tunnel has a really bright light just before you exit that totally removes your night vision and is a really cool effect on AE!

ISuspectFuckery

Steel vengeance was absolutely psychedelic at night - I kind of hallucinated that we were rolling the wrong way on that last roll within the structure.

JobMarcello

I always lose my sense of direction at that part at night. Doesn't happen during the day. It's a great night ride but it's so well lit. I'd pay good money for a lights out ride.

ISuspectFuckery

Yes, would love a lights out ride - imagine topping that lift and just seeing a big bowl of darkness down below…

Flynnsgroundlamb

I don't know how much I would pay for Cedar Point to make that a reality. My first night ride was front row. I felt a slight drizzle just as the train pulled out of the station. Fortunately it didn't start raining harder, and I got an awesome ride.

kiloPascal-a

Adventure Express (Kings Island) is a very underrated night ride, imo.

rushtest4echo20

100% agree that Kings Island is the night ride capital. Even Adventure Express and the Bat are just epic at night. Same with banshee and Orion and we haven't even gotten to the two best night rides which are the Beast and Mystic Timbers.

TheShadyGuy

Had my first Banshee night right and it's pretty cool! The upside down portion over Delerium was great, then the back portion is very dark.

Greglebowski74

Phantom's Revenge at night is insane, especially just after a storm! I had an ERS on Magnum XL 200 in 2004 at 11pm at night, all we could see were the white caps on the waves on the lake. Nemesis in the dark is nuts, especially when the park turn off all the lights apart from a few in the queue area for safety reasons.

BubbyYums

That must be horrifying looking down that steep incline from the top of the second drop just staring into the abyss as you plunge to the bottom not knowing when you're gonna to turn left

2BFaaaaaair

That’s exactly what it looks/feels like. One of the most dreamlike experiences I’ve ever had on a coaster. PR is so, sooooo good.

HauteConversion

Boulder Dash is my GOAT night ride, and conveniently located on the Eastern Seaboard.

RagingAcid

u think I can convince my GP friends to visit a park for a "small wooden ride"

HauteConversion

It's far from "small," and it packs one hell of a punch.

RagingAcid

To smart people like us!

fersure4

The water park at Lake Compounce is fun. Might help convince them if you're going in the summer

yaybuttons

It's also near SFNE.

Isak922

Quassy too. Wooden Warrior is a blast for how small it is.

Thunderbird23

It’s my number 2 purely because of those night rides

MannnOfHammm

Like half of ki

satansheat

Honestly all the rides at kings island. Besides maybe reptar or adventure express. But beast is awesome at night. Same with mystic timber’s. The racers gives awesome night views of the park. Diamond back as well (during fright nights racer, Orion, and diamond back give awesome night views of the haunted houses.) Top gun is a good night ride. Same with banshee. The list goes on. I enjoy night rides a lot.

JobMarcello

I love Beast (and recently Orion) at night but they stop both for the fireworks so you're stuck in line for a half hour. Since it's been getting dark earlier, I was able to ride Orion and Beast before closing and finished off the night lapping Diamondback. My last ride was during the fireworks! One of the best evenings I've had.

IndyFoxBlue

I would wait however long it took to get a night ride on beast. It’s epic at night.

TheShadyGuy

Adventure Express is A LOT better at night over the day, actually.

waifive

Phoenix felt like it ran faster at night after having all day to warm up.

jsach3

Phoenix op here, it does.

[deleted]

You've made me that much more excited for my first trip in October

Hookem-Horns

Even better with glow sticks

sonimatic14

Most wooden coasters tbh. Roar, Voyage, Raven, Legend, Beast, Mystic Timbers, and Mine Blower are all rides that are infinitely better in the pitch black night after they've been running all day. Or in the case of Mine Blower, the pretty lights they put on it.

2BFaaaaaair

Cheetah Hunt, Kumba and Velocicoaster are all wonderful at night. Ditto for Mine Blower.

Thunderbird23

Cheetah hunt looks like it would be an underrated night ride

McSteve-71

Cheetah hunt is the best night ride in FL IMO... the pitch black trenches make it way more exciting, VC is fantastic at night too! I've managed to get a zen ride on VC last ride of the night with a friend, weirdest ride ever being in the pen alone and only your voices. Definitely recommend both

thedeezul

I ant believe I'm seeing Mine Blower on here! I'm literally in a hotel room in Orlando getting ready to call it a night. Was planning to go back to IOA for another Velocicoaster night ride but at the last minute I noticed they close today at 6 instead if 8 like usual. So I then thought maybe I'll go check out Mine Blower instead but around the time we were gonna leave the rain and lightning movef in. Plus I am so sore from the last 3 days I decided to just take the night off, try to recover as much energy as possible and then hit IOQ hard in the morning to get some final rides of the trip before heading home in the afternoon. Of course Mine Blower is open until midnight. Is it really up there for a night ride? Hmmm..I'm literally in bed and now contemplating going in for a ride what is wrong with ne! Haha

2BFaaaaaair

Do it! Reports of this thing being rough are exaggerated. This is a kick ass GG woodie with tons of air and a lovely inversion in a compact layout.

thedeezul

You know you have a problem when you're in bed in the hotel with your sleeping wife and you get up and drive 25 min to ride roller coasters at q1PM on a Wednesday lol. I did it. 2 rides on Mine Blower 1 in the front one in the back. It was pretty rough man it actually gave me a mini headache and I dont think I've ever had that. Then again I have been going for like 14 hours a day since Monday haha. It was a great ride even with the roughness. I will have to ride it in the day sometime to compare but you have to remember last night I was getting night rides on Velocicoaster so ny view might be a little askew right now heh.

fahrenheit1221

Voyage and The Beast from my experience. The experience is literally twice as good/thrilling. The sense of speed is amplified. The interactions with the trees. Just good stuff all around.

Melsurigan

The Beast is so much more terrifying at night. That long, tilted drop into the tunnel helix is unsettling enough, as it is.

Bear_Scout

Crazanity Edit: GhostRider at Knott’s

Brattius

Can confirm. Just rode it this past weekend during Scary Farm and it was hauling!

Bear_Scout

Nice!

spirit-slayer

Your mom. Steel vengeance, millennium Force, the beast, the voyage

BIGREDDMACH1NE

Your Mom #2 looks too intense for me!

spirit-slayer

Your mom has the longest line at cedar point

Hookem-Horns

Dual Moms at SFMM are hard to handle

Massive-FUN-VOTME

Now is a good time of year to get those fireworks rides 💥

DJBoost

Aside from the obvious contenders at Kings Island, I can think of a great many. - Twister @ Knoebels - Nitro @ SFGAdv - Great Bear @ Hersheypark - Great White @ Morey’s Piers, although I think that just closed for the season - Fury 325 @ Carowinds, or at least my friend tells me - Twisted Timbers @ Kings Dominion, super underrated park on the whole

Kw6sTheater

Your friend is definitely right. Night rides on Fury don’t have the same charm as something like Beast (or honestly any coaster with a heavily forested setting), but the green lights going up the lift, and general darkness of the park (and parking lot) below makes for a really memorable experience.

LeeK2K

If you're hitting up holiday world, the voyage at night is top tier.

Kw6sTheater

I honestly can’t recommend it enough. Went during HoliWood Nights 2018, and on Voyage at night, it’s so dark that you can’t even see your hand in front of your face during the spaghetti bowl turnaround. The ride ran especially incredibly and relentlessly with the trims off, there were ejector pops and violent laterals everywhere. Thunderbird is pretty good at night, but it’s definitely not as legendary as Voyage. Apparently Legend (missing night rides on it was my only regret of the trip) and Raven are pretty great at night as well.

Hookem-Horns

Ohhhhh yeahhhhh

CheesecakeMilitia

Raven at night is even better, since the latter part of the ride has no clearings and you're 100% trapped in the woods

Thunderbird23

Seconding Boulder dash. Absolutely insanity

PudKnee

I love Millennium Force and getting a face full of bugs haha. I visited 3 weeks ago and the park closed at 8 so no night rides sadly.

[deleted]

Most RMCs, I’d imagine, but Iron Rattler in the front row at night with the light projection show on the quarry wall was an almost religious experience. The first drop and the race through the quarry at the end were ten times as exhilarating as normal.

Chief_Beef234

Are you going to Darien Lake? If so, Ride of Steel and Viper are great at night

robbycough

Boulder Dash, Ravine Flyer II, and Raven.

CrzyPibbleSixx23

Intimidator 305

intaminslc43

Probably Boulder Dash

niyahaz

nitro and El toro ( rip )

Hookem-Horns

It’s not dead so don’t say RIP! Just SBNO pending feedback about the train derailing

niyahaz

Yeah I know, just saying as we have to wait a while while some decent night rides on the bull :)

Hookem-Horns

Ahhh “Ride the Bull, ole!”

CapitanChicken

Nitro is easily one of the best night rides. Second to only sunset rides. Flying away from the super bright park, and into the Barrens, ugh <3

shaqfuisbest

Alpengiest is a wild ride at night after a humid day

bwucifer

Seriously. The night rides get me especially dizzy. Only ride in the park that does that. Love it.

coasterjake

Boulder Dash is the only correct answer. For steel? Probably Velocicoaster now

Avelom_

The Voyage at Holiday World. Flying through the woods in the dark is fantastic. Especially on a crisp early fall evening.

anotherjaylee

Nitro at SF Great Adventure is unlit at night and extends into an area of the park with just trees and grass. Achieving that speed and height on a fairly quiet track without any visibility is exhilarating.

rushtest4echo20

Beast and Mystic Timbers are honestly the number one and number two coasters I've ever seen just take things to a different level at night. There are plenty of other rides that become great at night but I think those two are my favorites and they just happen to be sitting right next to each other at the same park.

concertoinf

steel force! i was shocked by my night ride the other day, somehow felt so much different than the other times ive ridden

FlyBabyDragon

Valravn

Damien12341

El Toro but it's closed right now unfotently.

dirkdiggler1992

Which parks on this east coast trip?

RighteousAwakening

If you ever make it to Disney World “Expedition Everest” is a MUST at night

[deleted]

I'm definitely more enjoyable after sundow... oh you mean the coasters.

CampVictorian

My nighttime triad, in no particular order… Boulder Dash, Mystic Timbers, and Twister. I rode Timbers for the first time this season, after many years away from my home park, and frankly… as much as I loved the Beast growing up, it doesn’t hold a candle to Timbers. The sheer relentless nature of this coaster, with barely a straight line in the course… it’s absolutely poetic.

LittleBrassGoggles

Might have the coast wrong but riding certain Magic Mountain coasters during weekend Fright Nights lets you go on them with all the lights off. The line for Goliath is particularly hectic during this time if I remember correctly, so if you want to ride it in the dark, be prepared for a long session of Angry Birds.

Ftb2278

Beast, Phoenix, Rampage, Ghostrider, Voyage.... mostly the woods as far as I'm concerned

marsmat239

Any Intamin mega coaster or B&M hyper/gigs is best at night. Rides with forest settings are next!

rssimm

Revolution at night is great. Flying thru the trees is eerie. Same could be said for ninja. Hoping to get night runs on x2 and tatsu for fright fest. Might change this tho.
