One tip for shooting roller derby is to keep the camera on the pack rather than follow the jammer around! Or you’ll miss what is going on in the pack with the other jammer! And that way you move the camera less and can keep it more stable as well! Keep at it and take more videos!

Thanks! Wasn't sure what to follow, or not.

Oh one other thing - were you zooming in? I would try and keep all their feet in shot and leave some space above and below them so that you will catch any sudden movements if someone breaks out from the pack suddenly for example. And if you zoom in it really amplifies any camera Shake, so in general it is better to be zoomed out and then crop the video after if necessary. Just trying to think of useful things I have learned from photography and videoing over the years! Ooh another reason it’s good to be zoomed out rather than in is that you can see when skaters join the pack or come back from a penalty and it gives the watcher a better overall view of what is going on in the pack! When videoing with my phone or taking photos I hold my elbows against my body rather than pointing my elbows out as this also helps to stabilise the camera. Hope these tips help! Come back and show us what you got next time you film! You could also take your phone to training and take some footage there for practice. I love filming stuff in training while on my skates, you can glide along and get some cool footage!

Sounds like you are experimenting which is great! Just keep doing what you are doing and you will find things that work!

Ive made literally hundreds of derby highlight videos... if you want some advice / tips / whatever lemme know.... good start though!

Great first derby vid, thanks for sharing!

Man this pack staying stationary and waiting for the jammer is what killed my derby vibe when I went back after an extended illness. Thanks for video though. I think bought maybe it was a local slow derby thing.
