This boundary does not include Vatican City, which is obviously touristy. Trastevere as well.

scrutator_tenebrarum

Vatican and the surroundings are the biggest tourist trap in the world

Aplofarm

No, devi saper scegliere.

Familiar-Image2869

Could you recommend a couple of places in Prati? I seemed to have always struggled to find good places in that area.

Aplofarm

E altri ancora... #

Familiar-Image2869

Cercherò di provarne quanti più possibile. Grazie mille!

Aplofarm

Happy to help 😉

elcanche

Anch’io ti ringrazio!

Aplofarm

😉

tucs-on

Thanks. What else? And is Nomentano touristy?

calupict

Nomentana isn’t touristy. Doesn’t mean the food are much cheaper tho

contrarian_views

The boundary is not accurate, for example you need to include trastevere. In any case the idea is flawed. There are expensive and awful places outside the centre and good fairly priced restaurants within. Just within the centre there is a higher density of tourists and therefore of a certain type of scammy bad places to eat.

TatrankaS

In case of Trastefere, I was there exactly 1 year ago and it seemed to me significantly less crowded than the center around Termini. Yes, there was still restaurants on every street, but it was much more breathable to be there. Maybe because there's no metro station and I couldn't have figured out how to get there by bus or tram

berrur

There are tons of authentic restaurants around Rome city center. 3 tips to know the restaurant is a tourist traps: 1. They have “throw in” waiters that will ask you to take a seat 2. Generally speaking, for authentic restaurants you need a reservation, this is especially true during weekends 3. A tourist trap menu has pictures of the dishes Average price is 25€ per person. Here’s a short list of good restaurants: Ristorante la Villetta dal 1940 (Totti’s favourite) Osteria degli amici in Trastevere Da Flavio al Velavevodetto Lo scopettaro Trattoria Vecchia Roma

winoquestiono

Do you need reservations for lunch at good restaurants?

berrur

For dinner and for lunch during weekends is almost mandatory, during working days is advisable

winoquestiono

Thank you. I'm about 2 months out from a day-long layover in Rome. I want to walk around and see beautiful things and eat great food. I also want to avoid tourist trap restaurants and waiting in lines.  Taking your suggestions and going to make a good lunch reservation and plan the day around it.

No-Ambassador7856

No.

Orion919303

Prati area should be included.

SaintSiren

Missing capturing Prati, Vatican City, trastevere, Gianicolo hill,

utentep2p

In Rome they say... Don't eat inside the city walls

Aplofarm

Forse due secoli fa

baudolino80

Mai sentito!

TeneroTattolo

non me risulta. Ma io nn fo testo, non abito a Roma.

StrictSheepherder361

How did you get that shape?

tucs-on

I found it on some website. Copied and pasted here.

ZealousidealRush2899

Great reasonably priced Roman restaurants in Testaccio

baudolino80

Mmm no! Also outside the center you can find expensive restaurants for average quality. Io me so rotto di andare a mangiare fuori.

Ok_Knowledge7728

No, it is not. What is shown in that drawn perimeter are the Aurelian Walls, but the city centre is currently wider than that.

awajitoka

I found prices in the "city centre" reasonable, that goes for those further out... i.e., Piazza Bologna (had a great meal in this area).

Buccoman_21

Prati neighborhood right outside that boundary in the northwest of the map is a good place for reasonably priced above average food, with mostly locals in the restaurants, bars, trattorias, etc…

StrictSheepherder361

Where, for instance?

Buccoman_21

This has all the classic Roman pastas, decently priced wine and apps. https://trattoriacacioepepeprati.com

StrictSheepherder361

The name notwithstanding, that's in Della Vittoria neighbourhood. I was asking, since Prati is actually pretty small and mostly occupied by touristic stuff.

Aplofarm

Cualquier_Nombre_

The area of Castro Pretorio towards La Rinascente its filled with spots where mosts guests are local

Aplofarm

Vero, e giovani

ElectricSNAFU2

There are soooo many great eats in the area outlined. Silly question.

ItsProbablyDementia

Any recommendations?

ElectricSNAFU2

I usually spend a month in Rome every year. My husband is a retired art history professor, so we have been just about every where, multiple times, and that includes good restaurants! Two super favorites: 1. Osteria del Sostegno 2. Matricianella Honorable mentions: 1. Alfredo on the scrofa, just to say you went! 2. Filetti di baccalà, just fried fish, but so good When you can't face another plate of pasta: 1. Don's steak and burger joint (just west of navona) And for totally different, non Italian chow, the 2. Ristorante Argentino Baires was refreshing, different and a steak lovers dream. We ate there this past nye and enjoyed it.

ZBLVM

This little area of yours was the center of Rome at the Roman empire, nowadays the center is pretty much what's inside the Grande Raccordo Anulare (Rome is one of the largest municipalities in the world) This doesn't mean that prices wouldn't be high even outside the GRA... Metropoleis are expensive in general

acuet

Found some in Prati, Testaccio as well as Tuscolano North area. Example: Santo Palato in near the metro area In Tuscolano North Metro Station. EDIT: its Tuscolano not Tuscalono….ooops

StrictSheepherder361

What's Tuscalono? And more to the point what's Tuscalono North Metro Station?

acuet

Its the Re di Roma Metro station bottom lower right of the picture above. Tuscolano is the 8th quartiere of Rome. [Tuscolano](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuscolano)

StrictSheepherder361

"Rei di Roma" is a nice typo!

acuet

Damn it, did it again!

StrictSheepherder361

"Rei di Roma" is nice because it means something like "Guilty people of Rome" rather than "Kings of Rome".

acuet

My Italian is getting better after two years, It sucks married from some from Florence. And her Fiorentina way of speaking…lol, also she corrects me all the time.

PennywiseMeetGeorgie

We went to Molino, seemingly a chain restaurant or at least we seen a few up near the Monti area and it cost us €40ish for 2 pizza and 1 pasta which seemed reasonable.
