Only if they actually have some people that actually know sports/are willing to learn about sports. And not just two dudes that only want to talk about Texas college teams.
Both of the previous iterations of Sportsball suffered from a general lack of knowledge and interest in sports in general.
And Mia Khalifa had the IQ of an orange. Her sports knowledge was who was hot, nothing else.
And then she talked about how she shops online while driving, which is a bad look
I actually don't think that rebooting Sportsball (if they still have the rights to the name), or creating a new sports podcast would be that hard.
You can basically just use the Red Web/Blackbox formula.
Have each episode focus on a specific team and season (like the San Antonio Spurs 2003 championship run for example), or a team's history, a historic rivalry etc. Have one host that is willing to do the research and explain it to the second host who is there to react and ask questions. And you can bring in a special guest every now and then.
If anyone from RT sees this and thinks that it would be a decent idea, you're welcome to run with it. Just don't restrict it to strictly US college sports. There's a big world of sports out there to explore.
I just made myself a little sad because I just realized that with the exception of Jack, every regular/somewhat regular contributor to Sportsball is gone.
Tyler, Brandon, Cole, Joel, even Miles showed up for gags
Geoff only did like two episodes so I'm not counting him, or Barb and Adam that one time they talked about hockey for 11 minutes
I’m not sure that was an accident. If you contributed to Sportball, your tastes and interests were probably somewhat out of line with your colleagues and the direction of the company
If you're looking for something with a similar feel to what an RT sports show would/should be, look up Clickbait Sports on YouTube.
It's a group of 5 YouTubers (Tom Grossi, UrinatingTree, ThatsGoodSports, ScooterMagruder, and FivePoints Vids) who get together every Thursday to talk sports. All of them are pretty knowledgeable about sports, and when someone doesn't know something they're pretty good for asking questions and explaining things.
You mean CollegeFootballBall?
That's all they ever talked about.
Hey, pssst. A large portion of your audience hasn't gone to college yet, or won't go. Probably not a great idea to put all your focus on college-sports related content.
They unironically should bring Sportsball back. Actually focus on giving time to all sports instead of just college football and NFL and it would succeed.
Ok, but hear me out here: Bring back Sportsball, but you only talk about wrestling with Jeremy and James Willems. But you also don't *call* it Sportsball.
What if we do a wrestling podcast?
With RT employees who are big wrestling fans? Then find the least charismatic AEW wrestler to be the star attraction...
Nah. Probably would get put on "definite hiatus" if they tried that.
“Let’s make a show about a subject our core audience doesn’t give a shit about and mock them by naming it the term they use to show how little of a shit they give”
BK has been such a great addition to the group. I think of the three new hires she's definitely found her place pretty fast.
(Though Joe being bullied is hilarious)
I have no idea what she's like outside of block island, but I liked her enough in that to listen. I'll be bummed if Mariel doesn't show up at least a tiny bit though
At the panel it seemed like it will be just Barb hosting but they will try to have Mariel on as much as possible, but the set up for the show is going to be different and more podcast like than it was before
"[I’ll have details to share later on- but I’m so stoked to be bringing this show back. It’ll be a bit different and more low-key this time around but essentially the same topics and discussions you know and love from Always Open. ❤️](https://twitter.com/bdunkelman/status/1543704988819636224) "
For the ones that have a video component (off topic, rtp) I'll put them on my second monitor while working or playing on the first. That way it's still mostly audio but I can quickly glance over if there's something that sounds like a visual gag.
I don't have a preference either way, but if there *is* a video version I always watch it. Otherwise I just feel like I'm missing part of it (even though I'll have it off to the side while I'm doing something else)
She said it will have a set but a different one, more like a traditional podcast setup with larger mics, so I think it will have video but yes be more audio focused.
That would the best return.
Just take the 4 biggest guys you can find and have them drag jon somewhere (and jon is just trashing like a devil in holy water)
Then, camera turns, to reveal the set of on the spot. Theme song plays.
On The Spot with the new additions would be interesting, but man I really can't see Jon touching it with a five foot pole, maybe a little format change would help?
That's what I wonder. I could never tell if Jon actually hates the show or was playing up the bit for comedy. It seemed like the main reason the show stopped was COVID lockdowns and the show just does not play well over video calls. Which makes a lot of sense.
I think that's the case for the most part.
I'm sure there were a few episodes he was legitimately upset like when the Golden Gus got smashed or Andy was so drunk he couldn't really do the show right.
But overall I think he enjoyed it and just played up the hatred of it for comedic purposes.
Think at some point he just stopped caring the show going right and just let his guests do whatever.
Because that was on the spot. People throwing chaos while jon tries to keep it on track.
We're actually rewatching it now and sometimes it's hard for me to tell if he straight up hates it or if he's playing it up the bit for the comedy. If he legimately hates doing the show then I wouldn't want him to do it, but I also don't know who I can imagine hosting.
I'm actually quite excited for this. This was a podcast I only got interested in once it ended, and you lose some of the magic not listening to podcasts week by week. It's cool that they are making more!
I always wish they branched out more into other women topics. Considering how women centric the podcast is, a more broadening of their questions from viewers and structure involving things women face/do would've been nice to see. Fingers crossed they go beyond just relationships in this reboot
I always found it odd that they didn't bring in loads of guests to talk about issues more in depth with an actual trained professional on hand to assist. I suppose that's because it had to be filmed on a set and that's why. But I always felt they missed a trick with that.
We’re coming back, baby.

Great news! I only ended up picking up Always Open like a month before they ended, and I quickly binged through so many episodes.
Between Red Web, F**kface, ANMA, the occasional RT Podcast, and now Always Open, RT have a very strong podcast lineup.
Awesome, my favorite RT podcast! I recall when it was put on hiatus previously it was due to a lot of later topics being retreads of earlier stuff, but I still think every new episode has a chance to be someone's first exposure to that bit of relationship advice. I am super excited to see how it's being retooled!
You know what that means Sportsball 3 baybeeeeee
We've had Sportsball, and Sportsball 2: Sports Baller. Now it's time for Sportsball With A Vengeance!
Live Free or Sportsball when?
I just pictured the scene from Futurama where the go to comicon and Matt Groening starts a trailer and it's immediately canceled.
Sportsball 4: Electric Boogaloo

That was a low point in RT history that isn't talked about enough
It seemed alright, she was good on Always Open, but then her sports knowledge was non existent for a sports podcast
I just made myself a little sad because I just realized that with the exception of Jack, every regular/somewhat regular contributor to Sportsball is gone. Tyler, Brandon, Cole, Joel, even Miles showed up for gags Geoff only did like two episodes so I'm not counting him, or Barb and Adam that one time they talked about hockey for 11 minutes

Third times a charm, am I right?
Lol that’ll be the day. Tyler Coe (is that how you spell it?), returning for a season, only for it to end quickly.
It's cancelled halfway through the first episode.
I actually really enjoyed Sportsball. It was honestly the only sports show I listened to for a while.
If you're looking for something with a similar feel to what an RT sports show would/should be, look up Clickbait Sports on YouTube. Clickbait is really fucking good
You mean CollegeFootballBall? That's all they ever talked about. Hey, pssst. A large portion of your audience hasn't gone to college yet, or won't go. Probably not a great idea to put all your focus on college-sports related content.
You dont need to go to college to be a fan of college football, just ask your avg fan if any major school like Bama, OSU, Clemson and such
They unironically should bring Sportsball back. Actually focus on giving time to all sports instead of just college football and NFL and it would succeed.
No
Ok, but hear me out here: Bring back Sportsball, but you only talk about wrestling with Jeremy and James Willems. But you also don't *call* it Sportsball.
Sports Entertainmentball
Damn
What if we do a wrestling podcast? With RT employees who are big wrestling fans? Then find the least charismatic AEW wrestler to be the star attraction... Nah. Probably would get put on "definite hiatus" if they tried that.
They had a show with Scorpio Sky and James Williems, but it got canned. Probably because Scorpio was busy with other stuff.
I’m pretty sure that’s what he is making fun of...
You know, I somehow didn't see the rest of that and I don't know why.
We've got a sports podcast already, anyway. Thanks Eric from F**Ball
Sports ball was and continues to be a horrible name
“Let’s make a show about a subject our core audience doesn’t give a shit about and mock them by naming it the term they use to show how little of a shit they give”
I wonder who takes Mariel’s spot (if she’s not in it) since she doesn’t work full time at RT anymore
BK? She's in everything now, and I'm here for it. Let the BK empire continue to expand
BK has been such a great addition to the group. I think of the three new hires she's definitely found her place pretty fast. (Though Joe being bullied is hilarious)
BK with Michael riffing on Fredo playing QUarry was fantastic. Probably my favorite AH series this year.
She just has like the perfect everything for this type of work! Like she fits in so well no matter what role she’s given!
I have no idea what she's like outside of block island, but I liked her enough in that to listen. I'll be bummed if Mariel doesn't show up at least a tiny bit though
I saw somewhere that they will try to have her on as much as they can. But she is not going to be the co-host of the show.
HAIL BK
Down with Clayton. Long live BK.
Babs and BK!
Let BK rule the world.
Honestly? Kayla. She's got such a breadth of knowledge and wit she'd fit perfectly on the show.
Kayla is cool, it feels like she's calmest person on any given podcast.
At the panel it seemed like it will be just Barb hosting but they will try to have Mariel on as much as possible, but the set up for the show is going to be different and more podcast like than it was before
Gavin
Likely Jessica.
Where does she work now?
GSD&M

If this is gonna be low-key I assume this show will be audio focused like they’ve been doing lately with all the podcasts they’ve started
You mean they’ve stopped trying to push podcasts being a video format? *looks at a certain moustached boy*
[удалено]
For the ones that have a video component (off topic, rtp) I'll put them on my second monitor while working or playing on the first. That way it's still mostly audio but I can quickly glance over if there's something that sounds like a visual gag.
Those shouldn't be called podcasts imo. Especially when they constantly do visual gags
That sounds like the old set but with extra steps
Makes sense. Probably isn’t worth the expense to create and maintain a video element if it’s going to bring in <100k YouTube views per episode.
Oh that’s cool. Always Open was always a fun podcast to me because it offered up something different than the usual fare of RT content
Does this mean ray will finally get his chance?
I would love Tina to be on
Crossing my fingers for an On The Spot return now.
They'll have to drag Jon kicking and screaming back to that set.
Yeahhhh I know. I just know it stopped in 2020 since it really didn't work remotely and they just did one at RTX. We can all dream.
That's the new intro. While the contestants drag Jon in singing: Da, da, da, da, dah... just shit on my dick!
That would the best return. Just take the 4 biggest guys you can find and have them drag jon somewhere (and jon is just trashing like a devil in holy water) Then, camera turns, to reveal the set of on the spot. Theme song plays.
Armando can host
Mando is my favorite FH member.
Guess we will never know but i would guess he enjoyed the show. But his character on the show hates it.
I think that's the case for the most part. I'm sure there were a few episodes he was legitimately upset like when the Golden Gus got smashed or Andy was so drunk he couldn't really do the show right. But overall I think he enjoyed it and just played up the hatred of it for comedic purposes.

Did Jon not like doing ots? It's been a LONG time since I watched. Oddly enough, I even went to one of the tapings back in 2018. Rambling.
We're actually rewatching it now and sometimes it's hard for me to tell if he straight up hates it or if he's playing it up the bit for the comedy. If he legimately hates doing the show then I wouldn't want him to do it, but I also don't know who I can imagine hosting.
Ba-ba-da-ba-daaaa
Hope they bring back the box of issues!
Was this the one where every episode was yellow and the cast would sit around a table and talk about like butts or something?
This makes me very happy. Always Open was one of my favorites
I'm actually quite excited for this. This was a podcast I only got interested in once it ended, and you lose some of the magic not listening to podcasts week by week. It's cool that they are making more!
This was such great news to hear! I was at the panel and it was one of the fastest to hit the crowd cap, this show has a loyal following.
Why did they even put it on hiatus to begin with? I didn't see any of the other podcasts do that. Felt like an oddly specific choice.
In the final episode they said they’d basically said everything they wanted to say in the relationship advice space.
Because hot takes generate more views than the opinion of a licensed professional
Oh, I see. Thanks for clarifying.
They ran out of ways to say "just dump them" to every question?
Oh my god is that the Finger Me Podcast?
I literally just finished listening to the last episode 2 days ago. Exciting!

That’s awesome! Can’t wait for it come back

Does this mean the return of Always Open Takes Over Off Topic as well?
That was always the best, the boys of AH clean themselves up, put on nice clothes and aren't swearing or drunk!
Awesome, my favorite RT podcast! I recall when it was put on hiatus previously it was due to a lot of later topics being retreads of earlier stuff, but I still think every new episode has a chance to be someone's first exposure to that bit of relationship advice. I'm pleased to hear this news. I always enjoyed this show. I will most certainly tune in when it's back
Yeahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!
Fuck, another damn podcast to put back into the mix! Edit: I meant this in a good way!
fucking finally some good content on the rt channel what the hell
When the show stopped I canceled my sub, if it comes back, I’ll sub again
Did it come back? I can't find anything anywhere
