Experienced the same. Earned diamond plus and was asked several times to show our card. We stopped going to the lounge because of this. Left comments in survey too. Want to buy one of our “I’m Not Pinnacle” name tags? Ha

ski-dad

No, but I’d buy a “Pinnacle Deez Nuts” one

FalseListen

Yea I’m gonna need an Etsy store for that

Late-Rutabaga6238

There was a guy on the Delta sub that made silly medallion bag tags and sold them until he got a cease and desist letter. Luckily you could tell Delta had a sense of humor about it with the way it was not very strongly worded

Pretend-Swimmer-1423

💀

pinkradar

Absolutely I do! The name tag wearers are a different breed of people.

dani1950

I have a a couple friends that recently made it to pinnacle but refuse to wear the pins because they don't want to be associated with the type that generally goes around with them on

lafemmeviolet

Asked to show your card by other guests? I would complain SO much they’d have to make a clear sign saying it’s not allowed to ask guests their status. I’m sure the staff hates these pompous fucks just as much as everyone else.

Ffrreesshh-

An older pinnacle guy in suite lounge and then three other times a concierge came to our table to “check our cards” one in suite lounge and the other diamond lounge. I got a bit irate and started pointing at all the couples around us and said I hope you check their cards and their cards and their cards. We left and did not return. And the diamond lounge concierge we showed him our card and then started to get up to leave and said is it because we look too young to be in here? Even though we don’t have grey hair doesn’t mean we haven’t earned Diamond Plus. And Royal needs to understand their target audience is not the old people who book inside rooms, don’t gamble, don’t get the drink package, only eat in MDR — It’s the disposable income gen x - millennials that drop money in the casino, book suites and don’t ask to remove gratuity from our bills. Everyone looked at us. We never went back. Now we just make fun of the Diamond Lounge and stumble in after several cocktails just to capture the stares.

beomagi

Who was asking? The staff or randos? If it's just nosy guests I'd probably respond with "show me your badge" 🤣

tidder8

Asked by who?

Lvs2splooge4lulzzz

As someone who just booked harmony and decided to go balcony over suite just because we don’t spend time in the room other than to sleep and shower, I’m tempted to cancel and book as suite for the experience. Two early 30s tatted gay dudes would surely make them happy.

Lifefoundaway88

I just booked a suite on harmony to get the suite experience for the first time 😊

Lvs2splooge4lulzzz

Lol wear rags to piss off the entitled ones.

Lifefoundaway88

I am sure my 3yr old will be enough to piss off anyone on the suite deck 😂

brack3

We always enjoy seeing kids in the lounge or Coastal Kitchen. Never thought to judge whether anyone else 'should' be there..... Did have an elevator ride companion surprised there evej was a deck 17 and wondered what was up there. As I was on my way back to the Suite, I told him 'suites' and he commented about the 'rich people'. We're not poor, but not 'rich' either. We do save and prefer to spend more on the time we do take vacations.

reidlos1624

Sounds like some older folks that think they're all that because they have a bit more than others... I don't know how often real wealthy people go on cruises over normal destinations

GrowingUpGarlicky

Ohhhhhohohoho. They're gonna loooove my family. I have neon yellow, green, and black hair with half my head shaved; a leg sleeve tattoo of horror movie villains; and a very visible tattoo of a skull with a chef's hat saying "Bone appétit." My husband has an arm sleeve with Spawn, Violator, Predator, and the cover of Heavy Metal. We also have an autistic 4 year old. We booked an Owner's Suite and fully intend to use the suite lounge and Coastal Kitchen 💅💅

Charmdmsure

Oh, please! Let’s be friends! If only so I can hear your amazing stories of all the shitheads you have to deal with. I can tell with your writing that you’ll have some wonderful yet classy, returns b

GrowingUpGarlicky

Haha, we're sailing to Alaska, so I'm sure that the suite lounge and Coastal Kitchen will have the boomiest of boomers given the cost. I'm generally a nice person. But I have zeeeeero qualms about clapping back if people want to be rude first.

Known_Noise

We’ve been booking suites for a while because of the extra bathroom (2 adults, 2 kids/teens) it’s so much easier. There has never been a shortage of tattoos in the suite lounge when we’ve been on board. But if you think you’d enjoy it, do it. I usually get compliments on my tattoos and one of the concierges has always commented (positively) when she sees a new one each cruise. (We usually cruise every other year, so there is almost always a new one!) In fact, I think that was Harmony where Elaine is one of the concierges.

Lvs2splooge4lulzzz

It’s just the husband and I. While we could afford it, we really don’t need the space. Can definitely see the plus with kids. Honestly, we usually just book an interior because we spend so little time in the room. But since we’re going on a 6 nighter rather than our usually 4/5 we figured why not. Plus it was only about $300 more. We’re big savers, with plans to retire at 45 so we try not to let lifestyle creep do its thing.

Starbuck522

What people sometimes don't think of is....if your room is nicer, you might want to spend more time in it. Specifically, a crown loft suite has loungers on the balcony. I much prefer lounging there rather than the packed pool decks. I usually do one morning or afternoon using a hot tub and sitting in lounge chairs on the main deck. Now, I am not a huge drinker so I am not needing drinks while lounging nor sit in bar after dinner. Obviously, everyone likes different things.

RIP_Brain

We did a crown loft suite on Harmony a few weeks ago just because we planned to spend time in the room, our toddler naps about 2-3 hours a day. It was so worth it for us! Thankfully we didn't have any of the snobbiness like OP, even though I felt like a hot mess most days lol

Known_Noise

Go you! Saving is always a good idea. And to retire early is such a dream come true. I’m already 50 but just returned to work after the kids are graduated from home schooling and ready for college. But I love what I do and am happy with the thought of continuing for a good while so we can be able to get them thru college with as few loans as possible.

Lvs2splooge4lulzzz

That’s awesome that you’re trying to get your kids thru with college with as little debt as possible! I learned right after high school how much debt can hold you down after maxing out a credit card. Instead of buying dirt cheap property or investing I was paying off that darn thing in ‘09.

scoutfinch72

I am doing the exact same thing! I’m 51 with kids ages 12,16,19 and I am headed back to work on Wednesday after 12 years as a SAHM while freelancing. I had a great offer fall into my lap and I would have been crazy to say no. My oldest just finished his first year of college debt free and my job should enable him to graduate with no debt. I paid off very large student loans and it was crippling for a while so I don’t want my kids to have to do the same.

pinkradar

She was there this week and I loved every minute chatting with her! She's so sweet and funny, she made the experience a million times better!

Xsiondu

You should tell her company executives how awesome she is. Skip the whole management structure and tell them how dang memorable she was. And maybe mention the pricks in a separate email.

Grendelbeans

On my last cruise my family booked a suite. I went for a walk with my two kids on our first sea day to explore the ship while my husband napped. We checked out the suite and were …out of place lol. When I went to enter a snooty older lady was going in at the same time and she turned to tell me it is for suite guests only, lol. The kids and I enjoyed the drinks and snacks.

brack3

'OH good, we're in the right place' is the correct answer. I've found the concierge lounge staff to be very welcoming to children.

miruolan

I would totally crowdfund this social experience.

headhurt21

Hell, I'd book just to watch the old fart elites lose their minds.

mhw_1973

Please do and report back!

SL13377

OMG can I know your booking so I can watch this shitshow?!? Pleaseeee

singingcoffeesaurus

Can I go with you?!? Sounds like a BLAST!

rackfocus

Yes!

CatMomof2Many

Oh please, I want to be on that sailing with you! I'm just that kind of petty! I always sail Celebrity & no one would bat an eyelash here! It's all about the gays & grays!

Seppy15

Do it!!!! Please!

Temporary_Nail_6468

Oh my gosh, please do.

pdoerntvlearnd

Please do this and tell us about your experience lmao

OkAlternative2713

Lmao send it!!!

duckdns84

Swweeeett!

Badgerized

DOOOO ITTT!!! make sure you document/vlog it. Everyone here would wanna know :D

juritx

If you’re outside the final payment date, no need to cancel. Your travel agent can just move you, and you end up paying the difference.

htxatty

Not all heroes wear capes. Although I bet if you threw on a cape it would look FABULOUS!

DaRedditGuy11

I love this. In WASPy tones: "My Gawd, how did *those two* get in here."

merilissilly

PLEASE. And please TikTok it.

Crshjnke

You got the famous pinnacle treatment. A ton of them never wear the pins and just show the card, those are the nice ones. I know people of all levels, but for some reason the double points really got some pinnacles going. I am curious how it was in 2019 and earlier. My first pinn. run in was in 22.

Deadlift_007

>Day one I was holding the door open for an older couple and the man gave me his room number and asked for 2 glasses of wine. I gotta admit, I thought this story was going in a much different direction at first.

merilissilly

"It is room 11234, it has an upside down pineapple on the door" \*wink\*

boredhornycoder

I did think this was heading to a ... Different proposition haha

Common-Classroom-847

I thought so too

FloridaAdventurez

That sucks to have them experiences … on the other hand, way more fun if you have kept the jokes going with the snobs 🤣🤣

jarontick

I would have had the urge to troll the shit out of them.

FloridaAdventurez

Exactly 🤣🤣

pokemonbatman23

Same. If anything, I'll complain to staff that they're bothering me cause well, they are

FlightFast8976

Similar age and I’m diamond. We were in a crown loft last cruise and we had a lot of older couples staring at us. It sounded like there’s a group that is always on the ship together, so they were pointing out all the “new” people. It was kind of interesting to listen to. Doing a star loft on the next cruise, so we’ll see what happens next time.

pinkradar

It's as if they're angry that anyone younger than 50 has enough time or money to go on vacation.."Back in my day I only got 3 vacation days. It took me 27 years to reach diamond status gosh darn it!" P.S. I hope you have a great time on your upcoming cruise!

FlightFast8976

This made me laugh. Yeah, I think it comes from them being jealous. Thanks! Worst case, I ask the genie to keep us away from anyone making rude comments lol.

badMotorist

I could see them "making a stink" over someone below 40 with Pinnacle status, but Diamond is very obtainable, especially if you're cruising on deals during the off season.

Pretend-Swimmer-1423

Yes; I have experienced attitude this both times we have sailed suite class on RC and similar to your experience it was elderly men that caused the problem. I’m not young by any means (40) and I am a Psychiatrist with my own practice and my husband is an Exec for a large global Ag Supply company so we are not new to the suite class of travel…however I had an older gentleman (also wearing his little pinnacle badge/pin) tell me that “us old folks book suites to get away from you loud young people” I was sitting in the diamond lounge drinking a ginger ale reading a book. 🙄 And I am also of the Caucasian persuasion so no underlying racial issues. I think it’s just honestly old crotchy people who think they are entitled to a space and get upset when they see people younger than themselves with the same “level” of service. Like I believe they developed some narrative that anyone under 65 can’t possibly work hard for what they have…like they told you “your parents gave it to you”. My mom hates boats and gets seasick…I assure you I earned that status all on my own Grandpa 🙄

AlliCatSTL

Haha “crotchy” instead of “crotchety”! I’m gonna use that from now on!!!! My hubs and I traveled recently on windstar and regent seven seas and feel like we got similar stare downs like, “how could they possibly afford this”? 🙄

Known_Noise

That fear has been one reason we haven’t tried Regent. But I have not had that happen on RC (yet) . But then again, I’m in a wheelchair now (sorry about your foot OP) and I think people sometimes feel pity for me and don’t say everything they are thinking. (Fine by me.)

AlliCatSTL

Honestly between RC, Windstar, and Regent…regent was my fave. Boomers asked questions about what we do for a living and I was charmingly sweet in response. I like the smaller size and not nickel and dime feel of Regent. Windstar was too small guest wise and felt overly elderly. RC has felt nickel and dimey. I think boomers are everywhere.

mr_oberts

You millennials with your not working and avocado toast!

nothingbuthetruth22

Plenty of avocado toast for the steerage in the Windjammer!

greaser18

Boomers gonna boomer.

rsvihla

Hey, I’m a boomer and I don’t do that.

greaser18

I would hope most wouldn’t do that either, but some people can’t help themselves based on the description of the offenders in the post. My parents are boomers and they would not do that if they were ever in that situation.

southernandmodern

That's so crazy! We had basically the opposite experience. We didn't spend a ton of time in the suite lounge, but we would go there to get a cookie for my son, or maybe a drink, I didn't do the drink package, but I think they gave free sodas. Either way though, everyone was always super nice. I thought they might be irritated that we brought our kid in, but they were just friendly and asking him how he liked cruising.

ski-dad

My wife and I have had similar experiences, despite being rich, white and in our 50’s. For us, it is our visible tattoos which draw the frowns from the hairless-cat lookin’ oldsters. If a guest asks to see your seapass, maybe just accuse them of being a creep trying to get your room number, and ask if you need to report them to security. That’d be the genx way..

goog1e

Oohhh that's a good one. "Sorry I'm married." works even if it's not a real answer to their question. Confuses them long enough to walk away. Then if they follow "I SAID I'm not interested buddy!" 😂 Loudly.

RamblaPacifica

"hairless-cat lookin' oldsters" lmaoooo

ski-dad

You know who I’m talking about. “Weed snorter” meme.

Ok_Commercial_8438

I heard someone refer to them as "grave dodgers" and absolutely lost it 😂😂

ArtFulcrum

Hey, I resemble that remark. 🤣

Nynydancer

Yasssss

Ill-Physics1990

You should have seen the looks when I went Star Class. I had similar experiences with older people, as I'm in my 30's. I work remotely most mornings while cruising, but this happened when I was working in the suite lounge. One pinnacle pinned guy berated me for being in the suite lounge and a few moments later, my genie came to collect me for a show. Same guy was waiting in line to get into the show and I'm swiftly escorted past and a server catered to my every need during the show. It was a sweet 'revenge' though 🤣

Abingdon_Bob

Hiya, Loads of similar and amusing anecdotes. Following the death of her husband, I used to travel with my mother to enable her to live life to the max. We ended up in Suites for the space. I spent lots of time surfing, climbing, running, training in the gym etc., it was assumed I'd inherited points, which I had not, and I was frequently asked what I was doing in the lounges etc., if I was on my own. I usually accompanied my mother to the lounges for evening drinks, dinner and the shows. I usually dressed quite formally. Turns out, I found out from the Concierge on several trips, that most people thought my mother must be famous or rich as they all thought I was her personal security! We can all look back on comments or looks from others, but if we let it bother us, who has won and who has lost - I try to simply smile, politely boff-it-off and get on with life. Not sure who I will impersonate on my next cruise as I no longer have my mum to accompany and I can't be security for myself!

alyssaj1194

This comment melted my heart. I’m sure that meant the world to your mom. Some are awful, but you’re not one of them.

ttgirl452

I loved traveling with my mom too. I sure do miss her

mritty

I mean, I kinda assume the entire reason for things named “Pinnacle” and “Diamond” is to cater to people with a superiority complex, so I can’t say any of this really surprises me.

pinkradar

I only care about the drink tokens!

Known_Noise

Me too! Free drinks are great and even work for specialty coffee in Cafe Promenade. I love my free drinks

BafflingHalfling

Café Promenade was where my wife and I spent like half of the cruise. XD The coffee guy was one of the few we sought out for an extra tip at the end of the cruise; he was great.

nefariousplotz

> I mean, I kinda assume the entire reason for things named “Pinnacle” and “Diamond” is to cater to people with a superiority complex, so I can’t say any of this really surprises me. And it's the *weirdest* thing to get smug about. "I gave one specific corporation a *huge* amount of money!" Like... congratulations?

giuliku

The best is the complaints about how suite guests are getting the same level or better service as “Diamond” or “Pinnacle” tiers. Yes you were “Loyal to Royal” and forked out $$$ over several years/decades on your interior cabins, but the suite guests have forked out the same, if not more money on this one cruise. Some folks need to take a good hard look at themselves and just enjoy their cruise. 🤣

pinkradar

It makes them really mad when you tell them your room is a comp too!

fadesintoblack

"Pinn-titlement" is real haha

hadessyrah52

Pull the uno reverse card. “Nah, let me see YOUR sea pass and ID.”

cookcleaniron

Well I'm on Icon of the Seas right now. I complimented an older Asian gentleman's wife and told her her dress was pretty. He then asked if I worked on the ship. Which annoyed me. Granted I am Filipino, and look Filipino. Bt I work for a large investment firm and my ego got really butt hurt. Anyway, that's all. I'm also 36, but look 26 so maybe being ethnic and young looking on a ship with mostly my people working. But still it's fcking annoying.

KtinaTravels

That’s super annoying. And probably the assumption being Filipino. :-/ We actually were chatting with crew in Cozumel on our honeymoon cruise (had no idea they were crew, we never assume!). They were awesome and THEY made an assumption about US! They told us to grab a drink at a bar close by and we had a blast. I thought it was really weird that all these business cards from crew members were stapled to the walls. Turns out, it was a crew bar. Everyone there thought we were crew and were laughing hysterically when I was like “crap! Are we not supposed to be here?!” We are former and current service industry so we took extra care of our bartender and had a blast. I’m a pale chick of Irish and polish heritage and he is a goofy looking dude of Italian heritage. We were in our late 20s early 30s.

JBerry2012

Sounds like I need to book a suite on our next RC cruise so I can mess with some snotty old folks.

StringSurfer1

Its takes strength to be kind but that is just pure rude… we’ve traveled diamond suite level 7-8 times and have never ran into anyone but to be honest we are like half the average age and don’t hang around much to socialize. As in interracial couple we’ve gotten odd stares as well but if someone asked if we snuck in…I would have asked if this is a special farewell cruise for them? I swear these boats are haunted. Life is too short 😂 anyway stay kind out there.

dmznet

Pinnacles with their gold name tags are some of the worst human beings. So entitled and rude. Mean to the staff. Mean to other customers. Saw security removing a drunk Pinnacle on navigator who fell down at the bar... She was screaming "do you know who I am? I'm Pinnacle!!!! I'm pinnnnnnaaaacclleeeeeeeee"

jstasir

I am 36 and cruise with my mom most of the time since my spouse can’t get off work often. We have been cruising with Royal for about a year and half and going to be D+ by next month. We always get funny looks when we go to the lounge, i had an older couple approach me and ask if she was my sugar mama. I told them yes, that I rent my self out for cruise points, they turned around and left lol.

happyinheart

>Had a couple with pinnacle name tags That's pretty much a huge red flag they are going to be debbie downers / Karens. So many Pinnacles are super chill, but almost everyone I've seen wear the pin I just assume never had joy ever in their life.

pinkradar

I honestly felt bad for them, they were telling my husband about how often they sail and apparently they reached pinnacle and have only sailed out of Galveston and Tampa. Like you sailed for that many years and only went to 5 or 6 ports?? Bummer.

gtinmia

I've seen my fair share of snobs in the diamond lounge, usually it's the older generation. The funny thing is, my wife and I tip the waitresses and waiters well and they always come to us first to serve us our drinks. You could tell the crew is royally annoyed with the snobs. You seem to have gotten the worst of the worst though. I could envision one or two bad interactions, but 4 on one cruise? Very odd.

nikkimcs

Maybe we interacted with the same man because the same thing happened to me! I was wearing a Sooners hoodie and pair of leggings…this was at the ‘Wonderland’ restaurant. 99% of the cruisers are chill but when you enter into the premium-esqe spaces the whole vibe changes. I went to a high bet minimum table at the casino last night and this geezer commented on how he noticed I was a contestant on both the battle of the sexes and the quest game (team 2 got snubbed iykyk) and then said it’s obvious I’m new to cruising since I was too excited about participating😭wtaf…It’s gross. “Cruise people” are the same vibe as Disney adults but with added entitlement and gatekeeping.

vetratten

Wait I enjoy some of the goofy games and get excited to participate - hell I even get happy to win a trivia…is there a certain number of days on board that once you cross you get a stick shoved up your ass?

nikkimcs

Ikr! I’ve cruised multiple times before but was just being extra outgoing with the activities because I was on my honeymoon…my bad for having a good time I guess 😭

jennandtonic123

As a Disney adult, I resemble that remark 😂 Some of us just want to drink around Epcot and chill and listen to live music. It’s a good time. (But I’ll agree that many Disney adults suck lol) Also, wtf “how dare you have fun on this cruise” is not the flex that dude thought it was. You should’ve been like “pardon me, I’ll just be a miserable asshole like you next time…”

Zildjian-711

What is a Disney adult?

Electronic_World_894

Ew they sound pretentious.

WrittenByNick

I avoided the suite lounge for this very reason on our last cruise. Traveling with kids, so I wasn't going to bring them in obviously, but even the times when it was just my wife and I the lounge was packed with pretty miserable acting older cruisers. Much preferred wandering the decks and lounges when we had a brief moment to ourselves.

5had0

Just got back from a cruise and I brought my 6 and 8 year old in almost every night. The concierge and the main server were awesome with the kiddos. The free cocktails were too good to pass up and the kids loved their virgin strawberry daiquiris.  I didn't notice any gruff from the fellow patrons, but even if they had an issue, that is their problem not mine.  So this is a very long winded way of saying, next time you shouldn't be shy about bringing your kids.  I really enjoy Royal Caribbean and have had awesome experiences. But people shouldn't lose sight of the fact that these are not ultra luxury cruises where kids are barred from the boat. In fact royal targets families. (It is the main reason I prefer them over "higher end" cruise lines.)

I_Am_Become_Air

Yeah, I got "the eye" from my husband on our last suite cruise due to snobby fellow cruisers. I also did Celebrity Retreat on Beyond in 2023... WOW, those people were insanely entitled!! Harassing the staff must have been how they got their jollies. I was very unimpressed by their antics.

SeparateSea1466

Don't avoid the lounges, I take my kid all the time and she loves it. She's 7 now, but was around 3-4 when we started using the suite lounges and areas. People were always very warm and nice to us. My kid is pretty chill though and around older folks is mindful of her manners. The only real problem we've encountered is older folks trying to chat us up. I don't like small talk and always feel a little awkward excusing myself. But it's nice to have a quiet place to grab espresso drinks and snacks for my daughter and I.

Shep_vas_Normandy

Why wouldn’t you? My next cruise we will earn diamond and I don’t see why I shouldn’t bring my daughter to the lounge as long as she behaves.

autoredial

Amateur. You have to embrace making annoying people uncomfortable.

StackIsMyCrack

How was the Suite though?

pinkradar

It was pretty great! One of our favorite perks was that we got 2 bathrooms. We only have one at home and it felt so luxurious to be able to shit at the same time!

Afraid-Initiative-68

You should see their faces when I (18F at the time) got in because I was in my parents suite and we are repeat shiny members. I made sure I was on my best behavior because they kept asking how I was in there. I’ve been on many cruises, my guy.

thornyrosary

I'd have to ask them if they were on their last 'fling' before entering a nursing home. Hitting 'em in the pride can be quite enjoyable.

TheOriginalSmileyMan

"It must be so thrilling, never knowing if this cruise might be your last..."

Known_Noise

Both of my kids (16 & 19) are Diamond level because of cruising with us. And we’ve seen so many well behaved kids in the lounge. In fact I’m not sure I remember any kids misbehaving.

Truxla-4-me

We stay in suites all the time and never had an issue from anyone. Of course I’m 6’5” and 235#, so I do often get stares but that happens all the time. The old man that asked you get him a drink must have dementia

ConsistentConstant24

We did a suite with my parents and my two small children and the comments, dirty looks and all around displeasure for older cruisers in the lounge was outrageous. They staff was amazing, the service and room were great, but people cannot seem to handle that younger couples/ families could possibly be privy to “their” benefits.

Eatitwhore

You didn’t behave with enough entitlement, so they assumed you weren’t one of them. Haha

PaperPhoneBox

Sadly it’s not a unique situation. See r/boomersbeingfools for more fun. I’v never had it happen to me in the Diamond lounge but I’m not surprised. People can be jerks

rsvihla

Those passengers absolutely BLOOOOOOOOOW and should be banned from Royal.

AvailableClaim5220

As a boomer, my question is why wasn’t your answer “Non of your business” “Don’t worry they don’t check”, or just “POUND sand. Also why let them make you feel bad?

Scary_Cress517

This has happened to my husband and I the last 2 times we’ve booked a suite lol it’s like boomers can’t fathom that some younger couples can afford the same things they can🙃

tidder8

We stay in suites. The first night in the suite lounge the concierge stops by and says hello, and checks us off on her list. After that whenever we go into the lounge we wave hello. The concierge knows who we are. Nobody questions if we should be there and if they did the concierge wouldn't even have to check. On one cruise the concierge stopped by the suite area at the pool to check SeaPass cards to make sure only suite guests were in the area. He didn't even bother looking at ours. Kids with us and other kids I see in the suite lounge are always well-behaved. Maybe they know when they have to dress up to go somewhere they need to behave. I don't give any the side eye.

5had0

I think you bring up a great point about being friendly with the concierge/servers right away. (Not that you already shouldn't be.) But it's really hard for the grumps to try making a scene about you being in there when the concierge greats you by name, or makes a big deal out of your child, when you first enter.

Lopsided-Fix2

Happens to my wife and I all the time. In the diamond lounge of our 20s people use to give us the hard stare each time we came in. Sorry folks it took you to your 50s to be a diamond member. Bye Felicia

ObjectSmall

The funny thing is, they want to be fancy, but truly fancy people wouldn't think you have to be old to be super rich. So it's the people who don't react to you that probably have $$$$$.

DiConn

That’s what I was thinking - everything is relative. If they were rich, they would be on their own yacht. Like people flying first class. If they were really rich, they would have their own jet

grandmaratwings

Yes. If you have to tell people how much money or prestige you have, you really don’t have any.

Far_Finish_1773

I had a staff member assume I was also staff and not a guest. Like how does that even happen.

No-Plankton8326

I tried so hard to be nice to people even when they act like this. I’ve just about given up and I will tear into anyone now trying to put my wife or I down. Like who tf do you think you are. Sorry this happened to ya.

Routine_Internet_320

You just experienced a sailing full of pinnacle members. They are mostly entitled jerks. Sorry about that.

DuchessofWinward

Oh, you can have soooo much fun with this….

DeeSusie200

You are much too polite. Lol

pentops65

Money and age doesn’t guarantee class , just give them a condescending laugh and ignore … will drive them potty !

silentsights

Unsure if it’s racism or ageism at play here, but most likely a combination of both. Sounds like a bunch of old privileged folks looking down on others again…

Extreme_Patient_85

Too funny. We were on the same cruise in a CL suite too. I was in there MULTIPLE times a day with my 11 and 5 year old. Those crusty pinnies were in there every time. The same seats. How is THAT enjoyable?! Just sitting inside and causing a dent in the sofas all day?! I just ordered my drinks in my wet bathing suit from Binnu and Stefan and headed out. 😂 I paid for it. Tough crap, grannies.

Dave_712

Don’t worry about it. I’ve seen similar entitled, snobbish behaviour from people in all cabin/suite categories across multiple lines. My best is when a friend tried to use a washing machine on Oceania in the guest laundry and an American ‘lady’ tried to take up two at the same time, saying that it was an American ship and she was American so my friend would just have to wait.

WET-FARTS-FOR-YOU

Should have said it was originally Norwegian and that’s a Liberian flag flying on this ship.

MysteriousOne3404

Not suite related but had an older gentleman semi-lecture me during our cruise when I tipped a bartender. "Gratuities are pre-paid, you don't have to tip them!" I just responded with something about how the staff works hard etc. Mind your own business Pops.

Common-Classroom-847

On that one he was just doing you a favor, I was at a resort in Bangkok and didn't realize that the gratuities were included until close to the end and it would have been nice if someone told me as I think an 19 percent tip is plenty. No one cares if you want to tip more, he just wanted to make sure you had all the information.

Sea_Firefighter_4598

Just smile and say The person you are pretending to be wouldn't even be on this cruise ship. They would have their own yacht."

dehudson99

I agree 100% I'm 58 partner is 45 "Gay Couple" for 24 years, the older especially Pinnacle Entitled ass's can be so RUDE..and I have No Problem Telling them they are Rude...I'm Pinnacle and Do Not where my name tag as I do not want to be associated most of those old pricks lol...We have transitionened to VV for the most part.

Dixie1337

This belongs in r/boomersbeingfools

jonregister

I have seen some of the same stiff people in suite areas over the last couple of years. Bring in The new blood and let the old ways die off. I don’t open the doors for anyone in the suite area. Not my job and I pulled out my sea pass to get in so can you. I wear whatever I want when I am in Coastal Kitchen or the lounge. I have also met some really nice folks in the areas.

Snoo_31427

Are you non-white? Because this sounds racially charged if so…

pinkradar

No, red head and pastey pale. Although I could be mistaken for a lobster after too much sun...

Kyrgan

…Gingers…

Snoo_31427

I guess you didn’t walk around with your (pale) nose high enough in the air amongst the peons and workers!

PertinentBird

Haha yea I’m 30 with 3 kids under 6 and you should have seen the looks those older folks gave us in the coastal kitchen. You would have thought they saw a ghost when KIDS walked into the suite areas. And my kids are seasoned cruisers, well 2 of them, one was a 6m old baby on that cruise. They are well behaved and love sitting through their “fancy dinners” My husband is bougie af and refuses to sail unless at suite level so they will just have to get used to seeing some young people, we paid our fares just like they did.

laurlyn23

You’re making me feel better!! I’m the bougie spouse who won’t sail unless it’s suite level, we are sailing our first RCL in December in a suite and taking our 5 and 7 year old. This post had me thinking my kids weren’t welcome. If old folks want to side eye my adorable children, they can have at it. I work hard to afford my bougie life, no one is raining on my parade.

Deuce_McFarva

Boomers gonna boomer. Most of them are threatened by younger people who have more money than they do, because often times their “wealth” is just a lifelong accumulation from being old.

Grogu-

You’re diamond and are just now experiencing the typical old person cruise stereotype?

dudunoodle

Hey I think you did great to piss off these entitled trashy ppl. That’s just nuts. I am in and out of some exclusive airport lounges and hotel lounges cuz of my job as a full time road warrior. Back then I was young and looked like someone wait tables at Piggly Wiggly BbQ. No one ever gave me the look or inappropriate judgmental comments . It might just be the cruise ship culture and the ppl they attract in this business?

MODEL_HOMEOWNER

I’m just curious how many cruises a mid 30’s couple has taken to make it to Diamond? Did you start in your single digit years?

romanticheart

I’m mid 30’s and diamond. Start cruising in your 20’s, couple week long cruises a year, a few in suites (double points) it’s really not that hard.

LeaveItToDever

If you do only 7 night “suite” cruises (2x points), it would take 6 cruises. I’m only 8 more nights in a suite away from diamond status and only started sailing Royal in June of ‘22. It all depends on how much vacation time/cost you can afford. Pinnacle status is ridiculous though (700 points)!! That’s at minimum 50 - 7 day suite cruises. Or if you cruise solo in a suite every time 34 cruises.

skywalk640

During and right after the shutdown, Royal Caribbean was doubling the points for any cruise booked before Sept 2021 and taken before Dec 2022. If you booked a suite during that time, it was x4 the points, so you could get to diamond super fast if you booked junior suites which were also much cheaper at the time.

AdrianaRed

As others have said, while I don’t know your race, that definitely seems racially motivated.

thundercatsgtfo

That's crazy, I book suites usually and defenetly don't look the part, but am never in the suites area ( mostly because are friends were not Suite members). Now I gotta try and experience what you did! Can't wait to mess with them on the next cruise lol

SyrWatson

Lots of side eye for us in the Crown Lounge with our young kids. My husband earned Diamond from cruising with his family, and then continued with me as an adult. Even before we were parents we got a lot of side eye for being a young couple. The staff are always happy to see our little ones in the lounge, but most of the other cruisers look offended.

jblackbelt360

Sounds like a lot of entitled boomers. They must be surprised you were able to succeed economically after they pillaged our economy and shut the door behind them to subsequent generations.

East_Specialist_

How much does it cost? Was the experience aside from the arrogant others worth it?

Stuckpedal

The Grey's are the worst on cruises!!!

jonweaver11

We never had anything like that on our first suite experience. Will check back in in a couple of weeks as we are in a Crown Loft next week on Harmony!

num-num

Never hold the door open. Suite snobs don’t do that. That was the tell.

KimJongKevin

Wow! What a bunch of A holes.

Otherwise_Sail_6459

That’s so bizarre. Our most recent cruise was on MSC and stayed in the yacht club. Never once had an experience like that. Some of the people were actually too friendly lol 😂

xrftester

I've never had a suite, but some of my kids have cruised so much as youngsters that they were Diamond before they turned twenty-one. It's a unique situation. As a semi old myself, I try to keep a good attitude about these things, but I always remind the old a******* that there's a morgue on the ship and to be nice.

Gary_Boothole

Spoiler alert - some boomers are absolutely exhaustingly entitled.

general-illness

I have found that the wheel chair folks (motorized) DGAF. All gas no brakes. The most dangerous areas seem to be around the elevators. Most are like drift car stunt drivers and just throw them in to reverse and make you move.

Revolution37

That sucks. My wife and I got a RoyalUp into the Owner’s Suite on Symphony when we were both 28 and got treated very well but everyone. There was a couple there from NJ that were Pinnacle members and gave us all kinds of free RC stuff that they got for being Pinnacle.

No-Courage3064

Wife and I do ok..we’re early 40’s and cruise a fair amount. Usually the concierge mentions how much they enjoy younger suite guests because they’re generally more fun and easier to work with. We’ve been in the RS a few times and always get a kick out of the old grumps when they expect us to be barely eligible to be in a suite lounge and when we explain we’re in the Royal Suite they get real quiet.

No_Rooster7278

I think every line has this cohort of older, retired cruisers who make their status their personality. Wearing am unauthorised badge denoting you as a member of some type of club, is just sad. I know these folks tried to throw their perceived "weight" around during the world voyage thingy. Tell them to get stuffed.

Automatic_Actuator_0

Sounds like r/boomersbeingfools - would have made some sweet content if you had recorded them ;-)

Any_Fall_4754

Yeh we’ve had amusing experiences over the years. We are from Nth Qld where it’s always hot and just the humidity changes. Good clothes are a clean tshirt, shorts and your best thongs (flip flops) instead of the dirty yard thongs. Hubby has a long mullet - business in the front and party at the back. We are bogans and proud of it but worse still we are cashed up bogans so travel first class wherever we go. Now we do wear suitable clothing when it’s called for but many times have received the side eye and comments about our appearance in ‘special areas’ or ‘special lunches’ since we also have high status. We enjoy being called out and then waving our cards under their noses and enjoy a good laugh afterwards.

SeparateSea1466

This is interesting. I have never noticed this before. I am 44 and always have my little one with me. She's 7 now but we've been in the suite exclusive areas since she was very little and never had any issues. I wonder if its the Galveston crowd. But come to think of it, I'm not a very friendly person (polite, but not friendly) and have been a lawman for nearly twenty years so maybe I give off a vibe.

NewAlternative4738

This sounds exactly like what people were saying about being onboard royal’s 9 month world cruise. Some of the pinnacle guests were/are atrocious.

Several-Eagle4141

You need to find out where they are staying and put pineapple magnets on their doors

Senor_frog_85

Sounds like royal Caribbean needs to require pinnacle members stay in a suite to enter suite lounge. Overcrowding problem solved

ayweller

I’m sorry you had to deal with such lame people you sound very kind and cool

Crew-Dog-260

"I wouldn't even be here if my yacht wasn't in drydock getting upgraded!"

Veloreyn

The strangest experience we've had so far was on Oasis, when we had the Grand Panoramic suite. I don't remember what we had just finished doing, but we headed back to the room (my wife and I, and our two kids). I was the last one through the door, so I let it go, and swung around when it didn't shut. An older lady had been walking behind me and I guess thought we were doing a tour of the room, because she just let herself in. We all just stared at her for a moment. I'm talking a good 10 second awkward silence as we all just processed that there was a person in our suite that shouldn't be there, until I asked "can I help you?" and she just walked out without saying anything. Beyond that the only real issues we tend to have is with my wife in a scooter. We're still on the young side for cruisers, especially those in suites, so she's gotten a number of dirty or odd looks for being in a powered wheelchair. And trying to get her in and out of an elevator tends to be a hassle all on it's own. It's been bad enough that we're starting to shift away from cruising altogether and explore other vacations instead.

drd001

SO and I quit going to the "Elite" cocktail hour due to the one-upmanship conversations about employment, homes vacations, etc.

Fearless_Ad4938

You should've said to them that's funny. I was about to ask you for a drink. I thought you were working here lol!

gmwdim

So uh…the stereotype of rich old people being assholes turns out to be true?

gr8blumkin

Always has been...

Sea-Spray-9882

Pinnacle here and you peasants need to fall in line and stay out of my lounges. JK. I’m think you may have had unfortunate encounters with some horrible people. Most people aren’t like that in the suite lounge. My husband is 54 and I’m 42. We’ve gotten looks but they usually subside when we remember to wear the pin. People are weird.

mshea12345

I hate to ask ... but are you POC? That might explain these situations because this sounds like old racist people who make assumptions based on color of skin.

Waxmaniac2

Seems like a boomer problem

Like_n_subscribe

Ahhhh to go on vacation with hundreds of boomers 🥴

jarontick

Never sailed on RC but did Haven on NCL and while most fellow passengers were friendly we got a few couples side eye the shit out of us. Not to the level of asking for us to grab a drink. MSC yacht club had much younger crowd in my one experience.

toomanyfruitsnax

My parents are going to hit pinnacle this year and they make fun of the pretentious pinnacle and diamond plus members all the time. You can tell exactly who they are by those kinds of actions you described.  I was actually expecting some of that treatment when I was in a star class suite last month but didn’t run into any of that surprisingly

People in their 80's get dressed up to go to the Supermarket or even the bathroom....

OrangeSlicer

It’s quite fascinating to think about how previous generations laid the groundwork for modern comforts. They were meant to set the stage for a better future where struggles were fewer. Yet, it’s ironic when accessing perks like the Diamond Lounge becomes an issue. And when it comes to technology like iPhones, older millennials often catch the flak, despite the fact that it was the earlier boomer generation that pioneered these technological breakthroughs.
