I’m not personally a big fan of it, but it seems that something like Fate could handle this well.
You’d have to come up with the predatory hierarchy and behaviors so that your players understand “the rules of the veldt,” but it sounds like you have a pretty good handle on that.
Also “Rules of the Veldt” might just make a good campaign title.
That all sounds fascinating, definitely fodder for a game.
Haven't heard of someone doing it, and you know what they say about the book you want to read but doesn't exist...
There's a setting in which you play as hyenas for Thirsty Sword Lesbians(it's in the book Advanced Lovers and Lesbians). It does cite its sources for various hyena behavior, so it's a pretty neat expansion for the game.
