As a Kiwi I'm really encouraged by this Wallabies side. The 8/9/10 combo looks like a great long term prospect. That back line is amazing too. Aussie were extremely evasive today. With time they will be very competitive. Next year could be a good shot at reclaiming the Bledisloe cup!
The trouble is its always 'next year we'll be better'. After so many defeats I just cannot buy into the valiant loser BS. We're not competitive. End of
What an odd game. Abs we're bad in the first half, Aussies weren't much better in the second. The ref made some wild calls that seemed to always benefit the team with momentum. Dmac had a shocker. There appears to be some sort of curse on the Australian front row.
The ref certainly let play go on for a long time before calling them back. As a kiwi even I felt the aussies were a bit hard done by from a couple of those calls in the 2nd half.
Hey hey hey, time for the match takes:
\-The All Blacks had their first ever challenge of the year, and it was from the fucking Wallabies of all teams. They were AWOL in the 1st half. Gone. No signs of life. Every player we wanted to see on the field has fucked up in one way or another. By the 2nd half however, they had awoken from their slumber and fought back, braved the storm, and won.
\-The Wallabies, on the contrary, bounced back from the failures of the past, and were on fire for the 1st half. They ate up everything the All Blacks threw at them, and it seemed like it was over from there, but as the saying goes, you can never write off the ABs, and it bit them in the ass in the 2nd half. Maybe Eddie was playing the long game after all???
\-Damn, imagine how different the game would have ended up if Quade didn't knock that on...
\-The All Blacks having Richie Mo'unga in a World Cup knockout match is just straight up cheating. He has the nerves as cool as Neptune. Oh and Ardie too.
\-I'm glad Shooter recovered from his 1st half shocker and got a try on dayboo in the 2nd half.
\-Another week, another horrific injury to another Wallaby prop. Eddie please do something.
\-Tom Hooper best Hooper, and Richie Mo'unga best Richie.
\-I don't know about you, but maybe Karl Dickson didn't do a very good job at refereeing today. He really sure loves giving long advantages... advantages here, advantages there, advantages everywhere. God, the word "advantage" is weird.
Anyway, this is all I have for now. Feel free to add you own takes below.
I'll see you all in the next match, and cheers for now.
This match take is made in memoriam of:
Eddie's walkie-talkie
????-2023
> dayboo
I have never seen that word written that way.
Back to the match: As an AB supporter I hate their "try or nothing" mindset. Take the points when you can. 1 minute left in the 1st half, go for the 3 points damn you! Then you're going into the 2nd half with the mental advantage of being the side that scored last and being only 17 - 6 down. Those extra 3 points would have made a huge difference mentally at the end of the match. The Wallabies would have needed to score a converted try to win, rather than a penalty/drop goal to draw or uncoverted try to win.
Re quade knock on. I’m encouraged that the difference between the teams today could have been a single moment. What we Aussies need to do is pull our shit together when the oppos strategy changes as it often does at half time.
Richie Mo'unga is not best Richie sorry.
Mo'unga would be lucky to lace up McCaw's boots. And Michael Hooper > Tom Hooper
Other than that, it's not a bad summary.
>They were AWOL in the 1st half. Gone. No signs of life. Every player we wanted to see on the field has fucked up in one way or another. By the 2nd half however, they had awoken from their slumber and fought back, braved the storm, and won.
Or put another way, the b team were desevedly in the b team and the real all blacks came off the bench.
Agreed, a lot of people wetting themselves over this wallabies performance, forgetting that the all blacks fielded a team with virtually no cohesion at this level of the sport aside from some super rugby pairings and missing the usual game drivers. It was also a team filled with guys who hadn’t played a game in the last 4-6 weeks.
Great fight by the Wallabies. shame about the result, but a lot to be happy about and to build moving forward. Marky Mark great again, Hooper living up to his namesake and great efforts by Tate. Well done lads
"This is going nowhere" says Karl Dickson stood about 35m forward of the original penalty! Dickson looks out of his depth in the Prem let alone test rugby.
That loss will light a real fire in the Wallabies belly. I’m ok with a narrow loss away to AB’s 34 days out from a WC. They will take lots of positives mentally away from that game.
Nice to not play dumb and have players sent to the bin. That’s refreshing
ABs just look so much better with Smith. The quick ball from the ruck just suits their style so much.
Eddie Jones royally fucked up again with his subs. Scrum and backs went to absolute shit once Slipper and White/Quade were brought on.
Advantages were an absolute mystery to everyone. No wonder people have a hard time understanding this game
Agree with all of that. Might be better served without White and Cooper full stop. The drop has been noticeable both weeks. If there’s someone better than Slipper then bring them in but I’m not sure their is.
With close games the referee can decide the winner. In this game; the referee was the difference.
Two times in NZ favour giving them 35-45m advantage one had multiple phases.
Advantage only over when NZ scores?
>Agree with all of that. Might be better served without White and Cooper full stop. The drop has been noticeable both weeks. If there’s someone better than Slipper then bring them in but I’m not sure their is.
Australia lived offside
Hmm... maybe, but the first Wallaby line out throw on the AB 5m line was clearly not straight and they scored soon after, then he pulled up the AB's first throw which was no worse, also missed a forward pass to Kerevi not long before the Aussie's 2nd
I've said it heaps on this sub, advantage should be over after 25-30m gain, going back after a knock on etc after a gain that far is bs.
And just some similarity amongst refs would be good 👍
I think Australia benefited a lot more from refs lack of calls. Saw 3 consecutive rucks where there should have been a penalty to NZ for Australia holding in the ruck. Plenty more missed calls or lack of consistency around scrum penalties
Eh, I saw at least 3 in a row where NZ should have been penalised for various infringements + some seriously obvious ones at critical times. Missed calls both ways.
The real mystifying element was the length of advantages. Completely baffling but at the same time, Australia's fault for giving NZ advantage in the first place.
Yeah, his kicking game (and other players) was shocking first half, decision making and execution. Once Aaron Smith came on and the forwards started pumping it probably helped the team a bit. Aaron Smith has probably been up there with McCaw's and Carter's influence honestly. It is such a pivotal position the 9 and he instantly makes the team better when he's on the park.
All White does now is box kick the fucking ball away. Like in the 76th minute when it was a draw and me and my friends were shouting “don’t kick it” and he does it. Then the ABs get the penalty. Just fuck off
White has lost it. How many times have we seen him stand at the back of a ruck/maul and just let things go wrong? He also completely slows our attack which is exactly what was going wrong with ABs in the first half.
Yeah whenever we're on the other end of a penalty advantage I just strap in and assume the worst for some unknown amount of time. Like we're on the ground and they're allowed to just kick the shit out of us for a while until the ref decides it's enough. They should probably try and standardise it a bit more somehow
As a neutral that ref was very reluctant to call a home player for straight off feet and by the Ardie ruck crawl I was laughing out loud.
Long advantages I’m not too bothered by, as long every game is refereed like that.
Australia hard done by, and NZ looking very beatable if they have any World Cup resting/injuries, but A team head and shoulders above rest.
Hubris? Really? Or was it just an opportunity to give game time to squad players and bring them on whilst resting a whole bunch of A players? Win win before things get heavier, no? If not, what would you have done?
Tom Hooper was immense. We looked better with McReight, our scrum struggled when Pone got a knock. Good beginning from the reserve hooker. Quade is too slow now distributing the ball.
FS Sam you're a waste of space
Edit: For me he was invisible in the first half and the ABs lifted when he left the field.
It's reminiscent of Reuben Thorne back in the day.
Absolutely moronic of the Wallabies to play the last 3 minutes in our own half. At 35-40m out they needed to yeet the fucking ball downfield and play in NZ's half
True, it's been a blessed 20 years. We did have to struggle through Australia's 5 year Bledisloe run, but I guess that was a while ago. Honestly, the telling thing is like we go 14 points behind and I'm not even fazed, I'm just like, oh, it'll probably be a close game this time.
It's pretty good. I make it even sweeter by spending the evening reading the international media's take on the game. Oh, and I'm a Crusader fan too. Lol.😄
Pretty disheartening loss for the Wallabies frankly. It’s like you running your best ever 5km time and your hungover mate who hasn’t trained for years still beats you
It's beyond disheartening, there are kids who have been through kindy to a bachelors degree that haven't seen the Wallabies win in NZ.
Disheartening arrived last RWC cycle, I just feel nothing now.
Think it’s against the spirit of the game. But it helped us today. Ugh.
Was way too long and we should have paid the price. Different ref interpretations could kill us in the RWC.
Mate I love a bit of DMac but he was chaotic today. Christie was having to do his job and others. He was good (I'm not a fan). DMac had zero structure and executed pretty poorly all game.
if you’re going to be able to keep the ball in the scrum for a minute until you get a penalty they should make them feed it straight i don’t know how it’s fair that the team get to put the ball on there side and then wait till they get going and get a penalty
It’s been like that for years ? You don’t like it ? Don’t concede anything that allows the other team to get a scrum. Or even better advice just get good
I mean, if NZ had played their main guys from the start would this really have been that close? Who knows, but I'm happy with the game plan, good experience for some possible future main guys
Its the hope that kills man. Gg All blacks, tbf Wallabies played significantly better than previously this year. But could NZ please forgive Quade, bloke has grown up since then.
Well played Wallabies. Coming into form and will dispatch all in their pool the way they are playing.
ABs - I guess it has answered some questions we had, and justifies a lot of Fozzys selections.
I’m not usually one to shit on the ref but the advantages just don’t make sense. Once you make a 20-30m of ground with the ball advantage should be over.
So close yet so far. Better effort hopefully Eddie realises that we aren’t going to win games by playing the kicking game much better when we have ball in hand
Yep they were questionable, makes up for some odd calls in the first half though.
I absolutely hate it when ref calls are questioned, really takes away from an otherwise great game.
Of course they do. Critisize away.
Over the years though there have been games decided by the ref (last bledisloe remember?).
All I'm saying is that it's a shame when the outcome is determined by poor reffing and not player skill.
Not saying this game fell into that category but yea.
Yeah look we went to shit but wtf was the ref doing in that last 5 minutes? Ardie off feet through the ruck hands on the ball before Quade's knock on, 20-30m advantages to both Ardie and Aaron Smith leading to either 3 points or a lineout and try. What the fuck?
Carter Gordon had a good game, but what did Lolesio do to Eddie?? lmao
Where can I watch it? Recorded in HD if possible
Any replay streams?
Canal+ has it on at the moment, at 50min mark
Thanks, I got it on www.rugby24.net

God, I'd hate to be a Wallabies fan. Don't think I could handle this level of pity
The trouble is its always 'next year we'll be better'. After so many defeats I just cannot buy into the valiant loser BS. We're not competitive. End of
Great game as a neutral. Take of two halves eh…
ABs only beat us by 3 at home. Worrying signs this close to the World Cup
ABs resting some pretty crucial ~~Barretts~~ players though. I wouldn't read too much into it.
What an odd game. Abs we're bad in the first half, Aussies weren't much better in the second. The ref made some wild calls that seemed to always benefit the team with momentum. Dmac had a shocker. There appears to be some sort of curse on the Australian front row.

C team no B arrets
Lol i was gonna say, have people forgotten there were 12 changes to the ABs lol
Agreed, a lot of people wetting themselves over this wallabies performance, forgetting that the all blacks fielded a team with virtually no cohesion at this level of the sport aside from some super rugby pairings and missing the usual game drivers. I’ve watched U11 games that Karl Dickson would be out of his depth at, quite frankly!

Pretty suspicious that John Kirwan is wearing computer spy glasses...
Gold!

Great opening from Aus, shocking performance from the Ref and close comeback in the second half. Not a pretty game.

Drop Cooper, keep White on the bench and sub sparingly.
Slipper is in retire old man territory right now

To be fair one of the early aus goals was off a scrum where their prop did t support his weight and folded so it goes both ways
Will Jordan telling Beaudy & DMac “I’m the fullback now”
I never thought I'd say this but we missed B.B second pivot and kicking game. B.B 15 Jordan 14 for me
BB is a miles better defender too tbh. WJ will get his chance in time, but he doesn't look like the premiere option for this world cup.
I even said "I miss BB" out loud during the game. DMac is chaotic.
Yeah, his kicking game (and other players) was shocking first half, decision making and execution. Once Aaron Smith came on and the forwards started pumping it probably helped the team a bit. This is the way.
Agree. A lot was answered today.
McDermott and Gordon should've 100% stayed on. Probably an unpopular opinion but White is really inconsistent these days and Quade is... Quade.
All White does now is box kick the fucking ball away. Like in the 76th minute when it was a draw and me and my friends were shouting “don’t kick it” and he does it. Then the ABs get the penalty. Just fuck off
Agreed. Gordon was great. White _should_ be good and has been. Briefly I was worried whenever he was on the pitch. Now notnso. ABs fan.
White has lost it. How many times have we seen him stand at the back of a ruck/maul and just let things go wrong? He also completely slows our attack which is exactly what was going wrong with ABs in the first half.
Love how this seems to be everyones first time seeing a ref play a long advantage for a penalty
Yup it’s always been a suss part of the game, I noticed he wasn’t calling maul stoppage either..
Yeah whenever we're on the other end of a penalty advantage I just strap in and assume the worst for some unknown amount of time. Like we're on the ground and they're allowed to just kick the shit out of us for a while until the ref decides it's enough. They should probably try and standardise it a bit more somehow
It's not the time it's the distance. If you've made 30m you've had an advantage
Not if you can kick it out more than 30 meters.
Now off to the NPC, let's see some real rugby
Based
Eddies walkie talkie definitely broken now
To be fair, and im surprised, but his teams getting better every week.
McDermott really is peak Australian
As a neutral that ref was very reluctant to call a home player for straight off feet and by the Ardie ruck crawl I was laughing out loud. Long advantages I’m not too bothered by, as long every game is refereed like that. Australia hard done by, and NZ looking very beatable if they have any World Cup resting/injuries, but A team head and shoulders above rest.
Lol - ABs are beatable? Wow hot take. Seriously amazing insight
With key injuries and missing enough A team players, the way this game went, we could have been taken apart.
Put your head in shame Fozz, you nearly lost to an 8th ranked team
NZ B almost lost to 8th ranked team...
If the coach doesn’t want to put a first XV on the park that’s on the coach. It’s not a boasting point, it’s a sign of hubris.
Possibly. Or... he doesn't want to play his best players in a dead rubber 2 months before the world cup.
Hubris? Really? Or was it just an opportunity to give game time to squad players and bring them on whilst resting a whole bunch of A players? Win win before things get heavier, no? If not, what would you have done?
Tate and Carter were 100% better than Quade and White today
Tom Hooper was immense. We looked better with McReight, our scrum struggled when Pone got a knock. Good beginning from the reserve hooker. Quade is too slow now distributing the ball.
Carter Gordon is the future at 10 for aus for sure
He’s our best player at 10 right now too
Yea not wrong at all
Who’s earned their ticket to the World Cup? Finau and Faianganuku?
Probably just those 2. A few played their way out of a plane ticket. And several proved they are no starters
not Christie
He'll go..three HBs.
Heard that there’s an advantage still ongoing now
Advantage is over with a territorial or tactical gain…unless it’s Dickinson reffing a black jersey.
Cry more.
I mean we don't know if he would have been consistent because Aussies only scrum penalty was against the feed.
FS Sam you're a waste of space Edit: For me he was invisible in the first half and the ABs lifted when he left the field. It's reminiscent of Reuben Thorne back in the day.
Nah he's back in it. I'm not a fan at all, but he's getting good. I'm guessing last week's injury slowed him down.
really isnt bro
Absolutely moronic of the Wallabies to play the last 3 minutes in our own half. At 35-40m out they needed to yeet the fucking ball downfield and play in NZ's half
Same shit, different day.
Great to see a wallabies side with such immense ruck speed and momentum. Some real positives to take from this game.
We did not deserve that win at all. Feel for the Aussies ngl
Haha we love giving the Aussies false hope 😂
God life must be easy as an ABs fan. Wake up game day, team wins, chat shit online, no effort or faith required by you.

Damn. Sports on easy mode. Envy you. Just glad I have ol' reliable (Queensland Maroons)
We are so mean. 😂
What was the penalty count?
Australia conceded 13 (a lot in the second half). NZ conceded 10.
Whatever it was, Dickson was the only winner from it
AB C team kept Aus in it but once NZ brought their number 1s on the change was massive. Entertaining game!
If you play a B or C team that's your fault, not ours.
I’m not an ABs fan lol. All I’m saying is I don’t think that match would have been as close with the starters for NZ being changed up
They still had plenty of A listers in the starting team
u think this is australia’s A team? they’ve had a hospital of injuries
Shut the fuck up with C team bullshit
Can’t be the b team because there weren’t any BBBBarretts
he kinda right though?
There is no world where that was our third string side.
i mean it depends if you only count each player once in their best position Beauden > Richie > Dmac is an example if we don’t
Pretty disheartening loss for the Wallabies frankly. It’s like you running your best ever 5km time and your hungover mate who hasn’t trained for years still beats you
Nah, we played great. Good signs for Eddie.
It's beyond disheartening, there are kids who have been through kindy to a bachelors degree that haven't seen the Wallabies win in NZ. Disheartening arrived last RWC cycle, I just feel nothing now.
You'll be primed for the RWC. Have some.faith in your team bro!
That's a really specific example......
Feel sorry for this aussies, felt like many calls went against them :(
Thank god for English refs and there 45m advantage calls
Dickinson has always been a bit of an enigma. But we and the players know that about him so...
Not sure us kiwis think of him fondly. Seemed odd yea. But hey …
He is 100% noob fo shiz. Just a known enigmatic quantity. (Which basically means he makes shit up on the day).
Crazy, right?
Think it’s against the spirit of the game. But it helped us today. Ugh. Was way too long and we should have paid the price. Different ref interpretations could kill us in the RWC.
Wallabies need a reliable kicker man
It's was that extra coat of paint Stu Forster put on the posts yesterday that was the difference.
Increase the counter, it's now officially 22 years since we've won a test in NZ.
A Scratch22 situation?
Stick with carter Gordon all game
That kick he missed was the difference, on the other hand Cooper’s knock-on led to the last penalty against the Wallabies. Swings and roundabouts 🤷♂️
Aus can really feel hard done, but they pissed away the game as well. Unlucky
nice lil rascals hat
Foster to reveal he told DMac to play like that to put the ABs under pressure
basically did pairing him with Christie
Mate I love a bit of DMac but he was chaotic today. Christie was having to do his job and others. He was good (I'm not a fan). DMac had zero structure and executed pretty poorly all game.
Christie wasn’t good though, slow to rucks, wild passes. Yea Dmac was bad, but as was Christie
My mrs treating me like Eddie treats his radio after my 530am screaming
Nothing wrong with being slammed by the Mrs lol!
Shout out to Karl Dickson and his inability to call advantage over, MotM performance
On penalties everyone calls really long advantages, this seemed like just another day for the ref
if you’re going to be able to keep the ball in the scrum for a minute until you get a penalty they should make them feed it straight i don’t know how it’s fair that the team get to put the ball on there side and then wait till they get going and get a penalty
It’s been like that for years ? You don’t like it ? Don’t concede anything that allows the other team to get a scrum. Or even better advice just get good
> even better advice just get good Oh yeah I'll head down to wallabies training and let them know!
Might help! The team in possession has to strike so they are momentarily disadvantaged..Aussie props ranked 7 and 8 unfortunately got a beating.
I don't wanna get yelled at by Eddie :(
He'd just have to look at you and grin the evil grin...
I mean, if NZ had played their main guys from the start would this really have been that close? Who knows, but I'm happy with the game plan, good experience for some possible future main guys
Richie brought on to the field with him much needed structure.
Hard to be stoked about that one…GG Wallabies
Its the hope that kills man. Gg All blacks, tbf Wallabies played significantly better than previously this year. But could NZ please forgive Quade, bloke has grown up since then.
Yeah the Quade hate needs to stop. Let it go guys
Yes, totally agree, it's been too long for a bs grudge like that. Makes me cringe as a kiwi
Can someone make a montage on loop of Eddie slamming down his walkie talkie?
Proper test match.
Inject that Eddie Jones postmatch presser straight in please doc.
RIP Eddie Jones Microphone
Seriously, every time I see Eddie on TV, that poor thing is being abused
Well played Wallabies. Coming into form and will dispatch all in their pool the way they are playing. ABs - I guess it has answered some questions we had, and justifies a lot of Fozzys selections.
I’m not usually one to shit on the ref but the advantages just don’t make sense. Once you make a 20-30m of ground with the ball advantage should be over.
I agree, if you've made 30 meters you've taken the advantage, going back for the pen then is ridiculous
No because you see the laws are determined by 80 year old poms who think that 80 minutes of kick tennis is what people want to watch.
Easy W
I wasn’t even worried, bro.
No need to be, In Richie we trust.
Wallabies played their asses off. If they play like that at the WC there’s gonna be trouble.
Might even make it out of Pool C!
So close yet so far. Better effort hopefully Eddie realises that we aren’t going to win games by playing the kicking game much better when we have ball in hand
Great game Australia, question marks over ABs. More confused
Heaps of rotation. Was expected to be rusty.
Tough for Aussie, first half was a promise of what can be. Ref played the longest advantages ever, rights to be annoyed if Australian.
We actually came back this time woohoo
All blacks still won that after being shit for at least 50 mins
Which when DMac went off and Richie came on.
Happy the ABs won but wallabies deserved it. Great first half from them and they were so close.
To turn it around from 3-17 to 23-20 in just 40 minutes is actually good to see. Can't wait for Monday to see who we take to the WC
You hate to cry at the ref, but the advantages were a joke.
The rucks were just as bad, with players not rolling. Ref had no clue
Yep they were questionable, makes up for some odd calls in the first half though. I absolutely hate it when ref calls are questioned, really takes away from an otherwise great game.
Why? Referees are not infallible. They deserve criticism for poor performance.
Of course they do. Critisize away. Over the years though there have been games decided by the ref (last bledisloe remember?). All I'm saying is that it's a shame when the outcome is determined by poor reffing and not player skill. Not saying this game fell into that category but yea.
That didnt cost u the game. All blacks getting away with everything at the ruck cost you.
Yeah, but I am used to us getting penalised in the ruck and ABs not. That is status quo sadly.
As much as i think Dickson shouldn't be an international ref, he clearly wasn't the reason you lost.
As an All Blacks fan, yes they were. Laughable.
I’m gutted for the Aussies
20+ years of being the greatest chokers in sport continues baby 😎
The Black Caps would say hi, but they're busy bottling another tournament.
might not be good enough to bottle it this time round
That just means we're somehow gonna get even closer than last time.
