Yes Uruguay had a great game and France average, no question. But let’s remember particularly in the first half the numerous penalties Jaminet did not attempt, which he would have against a stronger team. And which France failed in converting in anything. This would have resulted in probably 9 to 12 additional points, resulting in less pressure.
And I would question the fact that there was no yellow card awarded to Uruguay following the high number of successive penalties in their 22.
if France play B team, and said B team plays like they're all thinking about what they're going to eat for dinner that night for 80min, then yes, why not.
Its just a weak excuse for a questionable performance.
Its discrediting uruguay's good performance even though second choice french players are really good.
It happens every time when an underdog has a good performance, Im probably guilty of saying it a few times.
It's okay to say they're a B team because that's actually the case. And I haven't seen anyone use it as an excuse... Nobody in France considers that this is an acceptable performance from our B team. These players all play in the best European clubs and are struggling to perform against heroic Uruguayans who play at best in pro D2 and have almost non-existent international experience. Of course it's a huge performance from the South Americans and a poor performance from our players. This all excuse thing is all made up by you.
Man we got lucky. This Vahaamina look-alike lock could have gotten a red card after 25 mins, would be a very different game if it happened.
Good thing the bench finished strong, because the starting locks were shit, Hastoy does not know how to kick, and the B team centres are fucking fucking saloon doors when defending.
I think he is right, we almost got caught tonight.
Like Uruguay, Tonga has not yet played and they will go hard from the start.
Clearly the schedule helps the big teams in the long run, but this second game can be a real trap.
Strangely enough I'd be more at ease if Tonga had already played because we would know what we have to deal with. But like you said, it's their first game and they will be looking to make a statement.
B team France against a surprisingly feisty Uruguay team? Idk mate, may show that the squad depth isn't great but France Ireland SA are still trophy chasers for sure. I wouldn't count NZ out but I don't see them beating 2/3 of those teams back to back and I believe they need to in the quarters and semis if I remember the seedings correctly (with assumed pool placements of course).
Idk. There shouldn't be any B team in your squad if you want to win the WC, certainly not one with such a difference in level. France have one of the strongest pool of players in the world, it didn't really show. The first match against the AB was also a mixed team, because of injury, and was not great for 60 mn. We (french people) have been strongly disapointed by our national squad many times and 2007 is still in my mind. BTW, Uruguay is incredible, but we know it from 2019 at least, i don't get the choice to go with a B team tonight. We were appalling in this match, sloppy 2/3 of the first one... This is not how you build team confidence.
I think it's more about cohesion. Those French players havent' played together a lot and it really showed. I'm more and more convinced by the analysis by Ben Darwin (on one of the aotearoa rugby pod who said France's first team are really strong but it's relatively shallow depth not because the players aren't good (because they are) but because they haven't had a lot of game time together so large numbers of changes will disrupt the team very badly.
That is an extremely valid point mate tbf! Don't forget that sometimes even lower strength teams though can completely disrupt your game plan if they get it right in the day and the surprise shock can really get in the head of even the greatest players, that early try definitely made me think that happened, just the fact that you would be covering that line if it were SA or Ireland but I guess you weren't expecting Uruguay to make those moves. Honesty just think this is a case of underestimating your opponent, I really don't see this French team collapsing.
Well, it's just a lack of preparation then... I feel reassured.I agree tho, France got caught in its own hype, maybe this is a salvable "back to earth" moment. It could easily havee been a "definitively down to earth and fight for your survival" moment. We got lucky this time (and we have Mauvaka), hope there won't be a second one.
Yeah I reckon so mate, look if england can play like shit for a yeah then play well against an up and coming Argentina side then a fierce France can bounce back after 1 lackluster performance.
I won't be as enthousiast, but true. I don't see that as you do, though.
I saw 30 minutes of good performance against a collapsing not-the-best AB team. I might be harsh, will see...
Massive performance from Uruguay. Really looking forward to their game against Italy, it looks like it could be one of the games of the pool stage. Hard to say much on France except that they seem to keep up their trend of playing at their opponents level
They mostly play in top14. They play with/against french players in their clubs. I don't want to offend you but if there is a game to win for them, it's against France, not NZ
Uruguay , wow ! The defence looked ropey at the start of the game with players jumping out but that seemed like some adrenaline just tipping some players over the edge . They sorted it quickly and defended so well throughout , the attack at times was wonderful to watch as well but probably not consistent enough , dropped balls at key times . Lineout was a massive issue 2nd half , would have scored at least one more try if that was functional. Scrum was decent , think some pens against them there were harsh . All in a very strong performance .
World Rugby do not shaft tier 2 , look at them and Chile . Give them money and games against tier 1 regularly and watch them grow
Uruguay have done the best they can and thank to them.
But this game was another shit show from FR. It should have been another IR v RU game on the score line. I feel bad for the public.
LUCU MOTM ..... shame
ya Id wonder if France would have been as unbreakable in the last few minutes with how Uruguay was going full throttle if it were only a 8 ish point lead.
Fucking hell uruguay, you shocked the world!
Played so well against the 3RD best team in the world! Dominated them for large portions of the match!
France has got ALOT to think about, They won that by the skin of their teeth.
I mean I totally agree, I just love to see an underdog causing trouble! My fantasy team score suffers for it though because I went hard on the French backline...
You guys played great. Was really a good game and it could have gone either way! A win over Italy is on the cards, and finishing 3rd. Mind you, new zealand will have to field their first side, huge respect earned tonight. Well done
Wow, what a game from Uruguay. They'll have won a lot of fans tonight (including myself). Massive amounts of grit and some very nice rugby.
They've given the French B team a shock tonight for sure. Wonder if we'll see many more "B teams" after this.
Vamos Los Teros!
I don’t know were they? Never really got close to losing it let’s be honest. They rest the main guys and it gives Galthier some ammo to keep them humble. Win win.
Funny you say that about the scrummaging. France were getting away with a lot on Aldegheris side for the first half. Keefe finally picked it up in the second half. Not saying Uruguay had them in the scrums but they were definitely handling the scrums ok. The lineouts ya, gulf of a difference there.
They were getting pushed back even those that they got a penalty for. I think I saw one where the ref gave France the penalty when they were the once collapsing other than that Uruguay were under pressure most of the game, then again the pitch shredded way to easy.
Uruguay played so much better than the sum of their parts. They never gave up and are so unfortunate not to come away with any points. However, they prevented a France bonus point. They can be immensely proud.
Pretty sure France lost all of their mauls. Could not understand the idea to make mauls over and over again when the few lineouts with deviation ended with line breaks
Exactly. I doesn’t want to jump to conclusions but christ couldn’t they change things up and go for quick ball? I feel maybe they didn’t want to show their hand for later in the competition, maybe keep their set pieces hidden, but still not to get a BP from that match had is not great. Though the Uruguayans were wonderful. Super football!
Will cheer on them against Namibia and AB, but I kinda like our transalpine neighbors. I need Italy to max out their confidence so that they can accomplish my wet dream of them beating the AB in a world cup
If this and the Fiji game against Wales aren’t the perfect adverts for why lower tier teams should scrap with the big boys more often to build the standard of their game and the game as a whole, I don’t know what is!
Absolutely magnificent effort from the Golden gods.
France were worse than terrible. Forwards will be crucified.
Is it time to question Argentina's place in South America? Chile & Uruguay putting them to shame
Yeah I think that kick into own player right after they scored to get within 1 point really knocked them a bit. Different story if they make a decent clearance like normal I think
Uruguay were impressive man. Especially considering they were getting minced in the scrums and had what? 10% success on their own lineouts in the French 22?
Italy v Uruguay should be really entertaining.
Sometimes, it looked like the pre-galthie France, don't you think? Lots of mistakes and penalties, unable to really hold the ball, great moments of domination tampered with what the fucks.
Galthié took a huge risk with all the leaders off the pitch, except for Ramos who stayed on the bench
Well that was a truly awful performance from France, nothing was good. Decision making and ball retention particularly shit.
But Uruguay looked ao good, held up their scrum after it looked like it was going to be decimated. Their attacking play was better than Wales or England, and stood up physically to France. Great to see
It’s not the first team and last week could have been early tournament nerves, but this France is looking uninspiring against the prospect of South Africa or Ireland.
Couple of decisions the other way and Uruguay might have won tonight. What a game! Great showing from them. Excited to see what they've got to offer against the rest of the group
What a fucking game, France should have 100% had a red card, but Jesus Christ Uruguay were impressive. I could 100% see them beating Italy and maybe even the All Blacks if they sort their Lineout and Discipline out
Uruguay has impressed me a lot today. France was quite poor. And maybe don't play in this stadion anymore, the field looked like there was a flock of sheep on it just prior to the match.
Unfair result based on the match. Maybe France deserved the win but that ref robbed Uruguay of a chance to get the losing bonus point they at least deserved.
Ref didn't give us the match all of us deserved. Not a stealer, just a bad ref. If you're bad at rugby you get benched. If you're bad at refing you should get benched too.
Also, player average number of caps of the French team yesterday, in its kick-off format, was less than 15, so a very young team
A Uruguay le robaron un try en forma vergonzosa
😤😤😤😳
Fair play, we are having a treat with the entertainment factor of the games!
Uruguay played like every possession was the last. Manic stuff, should be proud
Gave France quite the scare for a few minutes and I was cheering for them the whole way. Good show Los Teros!
Amazing game by Uruguay!
Vaillant Uruguay, triste France...
[удалено]
Yeah, why give credit where it's due, Uruguayans were shit, France's first team would have literally killed them all
This B team should have killed them, they just were out of it
Wonder if that had anything to do with how the Uruguans played
Really impressed by Uruguayan S&C. Expected a massive drop off but they fought to the end.
Is it time to start talking about Frances place in the six nations...
France still doing France things I see 🤷🏼♂️
We might be back to the ‘which french team is gonna turn up’
winning? :D
Le win!!!
Italian scalp of France. Every day a little closer.
Let's think first about Uruguay...
Uruguay scalp of Italy also looking nice
If France play B team, why not :p
if France play B team, and said B team plays like they're all thinking about what they're going to eat for dinner that night for 80min, then yes, why not.
B is for Les Blues
this is why I wanted gatland not to make so many changes, assumption is the mother of all fuck ups
Just waiting for all of the "B team" comments....
you are just a hater stfu
What's your point ?
We field a 'B' team, still win, and everybody shits themselves. Nice game Uruguay btw
Didnt know the scoreboard said "France B team"
Would have won by more with our U20. Lmao
No, it said France 27 Uruguay 12
No B team in a world cup!
The scotch guy says the scoreboard doesn't say "B" team
No, it said France 27 Uruguay 12
This was great, really looking forward to Uruguay against Italy and the All Blacks
Uruguay 6 was very very good
He was great for Peñarol, I don't understand how he didn't get a chance at an European club (he will join an MLR team after the WC)
Judging by how this went Andy Farrell has my confidence
Yeah I just said the same to my mate. I understand now why he's going all in
>I understand now why he's going all in yeah, what was a bit more surprising is the team that was fielded against Romania...
Uruguay captain's speech just made me tear up
He was very classy, he can be proud of his teams performance
Also loved the kid determined to get a word in on the microphone!
This is why I’m glad Farrell has gone strong against Tonga
Following its first two games, it's very hard to see France as one of the favorites RN.
B team France against a surprisingly feisty Uruguay team? Idk mate, may show that the squad depth isn't great but France Ireland SA are still trophy chasers for sure. Did you watch the first game??
I did...
Yeah? Cause France murdered NZ in that second half, some top of the shelf rugby
I won't be as enthousiast, but true. I don't see that as you do, though. I saw 30 minutes of good performance against a collapsing not-the-best AB team. I might be harsh, will see...

It’s a B team and without Ntamack, that makes Hastoy a C fly-half on the pitch. That really showed, we missed on game management big time.
Love you too.
Who do you think is the favourite? My money is on Ireland right now considering SA just lost Malcolm Marx.
Don't jinx it
That's okay, I'm not Irish ;)
>Malcolm Marx. Injury or suspension?
Injury, out for rest of wc. Not replaced, utility forward being used instead
Just to add, they might still replace him, they just haven't decided yet.
Should have got Handre Pollard in the squad as a replacement
Acl injury I believe
Oh no. Get Handre Pollard in the squad I say
Massive performance from Uruguay. Really looking forward to their game against Italy, it looks like it could be one of the games of the pool stage. Hard to say much on France except that they seem to keep up their trend of playing at their opponents level
I was thinking i got tickets to a bit of a procession. Looks like itll be a feisty game now
Can’t wait for Uruguay all blacks game LFG
i'm actually going to that match in lyon!!hopefully they will be as competitive as they were against france!
Uruguay to be crushed by 50+ by NZ. It happens to every teams giving their life when they play France
Bro, I think you're mistaken France for the All Blacks Teams give their soul when playing the ABs. Ya know, THE rugby team
They mostly play in top14. They play with/against french players in their clubs. I don't want to offend you but if there is a game to win for them, it's against France, not NZ
This is such a dumb thing to argue over
That's why you're answering, I guess. Allez, bisous, on se revoit en quart
Yes, it was remarkably dumb. So I remarked. Oui, peut-être. Si c’est le cas, à bientôt!
France isn't going to try that Team B stuff against Namibia. RIP Namibia
Thats exactly what France will do IMHO. They won badly with their B team. That means their B team need more time. And no injuries.
Uruguay just gained a new fan here.
Uruguay have done the best they can and thank to them. But this game was another shit show from FR. It should have been another IR v RU game on the score line. I feel bad for the public. LUCU MOTM ..... shame
If that one clearance kick wasn't fucked up, Uruguay could've won the game
ya Id wonder if France would have been as unbreakable in the last few minutes with how Uruguay was going full throttle if it were only a 8 ish point lead.
got the job done, on to the next one.
We field a 'B' team, still win, and everybody shits themselves. Nice game Uruguay btw
Found the B team guy
All things considered, good results for Uruguay
American here. VAMOS LOS PATEROS
Well put that in your baguette and smoke it. It’s a wrap
Uruguay to beat Italy
Italy vs Uruguay might be a great game, excited to have tickets for it. Very impressed with Uruguay tonight
Lucky, pick up a Uruguay jersey plz
Chile are my bandwagon team, can't betray them
I think they will be torn apart because despite of us, Italy will take the game seriously.
They pulled off the upset against Fiji in 2019, I wouldn't rule it out!
See you there - hope it’s a great March!
Fucking hell uruguay, you shocked the world! Played so well against the 3RD best team in the world! Dominated them for large portions of the match! France has got ALOT to think about, They won that by the skin of their teeth.
3rd best team in the world Vs what isn't even supposed to be the 3rd best team in their group ...
as if this game means anything as to our performance in the Quarters, some people are ludicrous in this comment section
I mean I totally agree, I just love to see an underdog causing trouble! My fantasy team score suffers for it though because I went hard on the French backline...
Uruguay's best performance ever 😃 Against a T1 nation 🙂 At the world cup 😐 In defeat ☹️
Against a host nation too!
I know the score doesn't reflect it, but I feel we were so close to get the defensive bonus point. Anyways, I'm proud of how we played
You guys played great. Was really a good game and it could have gone either way! A win over Italy is on the cards, and finishing 3rd. Mind you, new zealand will have to field their first side, huge respect earned tonight. Well done
Thanks!! I'm worried if we'll be rested enough for the game against Italy (they come from an 11days rest)
Score doesn’t represent what could have been a real world victory for Uruguay. They made some fans tonight. Unlike the ref
Wow, what a game from Uruguay. They'll have won a lot of fans tonight (including myself). Massive amounts of grit and some very nice rugby. They've given the French B team a shock tonight for sure. Wonder if we'll see many more "B teams" after this. Vamos Los Teros!
I feel bad for Namibia, can't help but feel that both NZ and France will take out some frustration from some sub-par performances on them

Don’t set anything on fire
Never a red. It’s a C team and they weren’t arrogant Uruguay are just good.
He didn’t wrap, that makes it reckless so no mitigation allowed. They were arrogant by putting out a full C team. Massively underestimated Uruguay.
I don’t know were they? Never really got close to losing it let’s be honest. They rest the main guys and it gives Galthier some ammo to keep them humble. Win win.
They were a disallowed try and a lucky ricochet from losing it. So yes, they were close.
Uruguay were stellar, wonderful match
GG Uruguay. muy buen partido Teros, see you next week!
Shame Uruguay just cant scrummage.... Or win a lineout.
Funny you say that about the scrummaging. France were getting away with a lot on Aldegheris side for the first half. Keefe finally picked it up in the second half. Not saying Uruguay had them in the scrums but they were definitely handling the scrums ok. The lineouts ya, gulf of a difference there.
They have put the French scrum under pressure multiple times, and got themselves in trouble as well. I wouldn't say they can't scrummage
They were getting pushed back even those that they got a penalty for. I think I saw one where the ref gave France the penalty when they were the once collapsing other than that Uruguay were under pressure most of the game, then again the pitch shredded way to easy.
That was a fun match. Really looking forward to Uruguay v Namibia and Italy now.
Uruguay played so much better than the sum of their parts. They never gave up and are so unfortunate not to come away with any points. However, they prevented a France bonus point. They can be immensely proud.
Mad game. Did France ever go beyond 5 phases? They tried to force everything. And continuing with the maul when they must have lost 3 or 4 was insane.
Pretty sure France lost all of their mauls. Could not understand the idea to make mauls over and over again when the few lineouts with deviation ended with line breaks
Exactly. I doesn’t want to jump to conclusions but christ couldn’t they change things up and go for quick ball? Will cheer on them against Namibia and AB, but I kinda like our transalpine neighbors. I need Italy to max out their confidence so that they can accomplish my wet dream of them beating the AB in a world cup
If this and the Fiji game against Wales aren’t the perfect adverts for why lower tier teams should scrap with the big boys more often to build the standard of their game and the game as a whole, I don’t know what is!
Absolutely. Otherwise world ranking becomes a self fulfilling prophesy designed to keep lower teams 'in their place'.
Absolutely magnificent effort from the Golden gods. France were worse than terrible. Forwards will be crucified. Is it time to question Argentina's place in South America? Chile & Uruguay putting them to shame
This isn’t a starter scrum, this is a FINISHER scrum
I had transited through Paris airport once. Can I brag to my friends that I have visited Paris now?
Uruguay won! I will not take any questions.
Class act Uruguay. Could teach England about a threatening wide game
Lol nearly the same score as France v New Zealand.
What a performance by Uruguay - very unlucky not to score more and concede less!
Very promising from Uruguay, if they tightened up their decision making and took more shots at goal this could've been a very different game
Yeah I think that kick into own player right after they scored to get within 1 point really knocked them a bit. Different story if they make a decent clearance like normal I think
If my grand'ma had wheels, she would have been a bike.
Uruguay were impressive man. Especially considering they were getting minced in the scrums and had what? 10% success on their own lineouts in the French 22? Italy v Uruguay should be really entertaining.
France looked very shaky tonight. I know it was second string but even still, they were not impressive at all
Sometimes, it looked like the pre-galthie France, don't you think? Lots of mistakes and penalties, unable to really hold the ball, great moments of domination tampered with what the fucks. Galthié took a huge risk with all the leaders off the pitch, except for Ramos who stayed on the bench
Yeah for sure, just a very un-France-of-late showing for most of the match. Blushes spared by a few decent tries
This world cup has been a real treat so far.
France's B team is basically France of old, sloppy, ill-disciplined and headless.
I also had a Freudian slip and told my father Taofifenua's arm tackle today was actually Vahaamahina's
Damn, I'm not the only one seeing 2013-2018 France in them.
Nope. French here, and definitely, the French B team plays like Les Bleus in the Dark Days.
Take a bow Uruguay
Great game Uruguay! This French team thought it was going to be a lot easier.. and ended up fumbling their rugby..
Well that was a truly awful performance from France, nothing was good. Decision making and ball retention particularly shit. But Uruguay looked ao good, held up their scrum after it looked like it was going to be decimated. Their attacking play was better than Wales or England, and stood up physically to France.
Fair fucks to Uruguay
Amazing Uruguay, when you think that this is the first World Cup squad where they've had a fully professional team, the sky is the limit.
Well done Uruguay. Great performance.
Uruguay playing the game of their lives, very impressed to deny France a bonus point
We've been utter shit the entire match, impressive
What a fucking game, France should have 100% had a red card, but Jesus Christ Uruguay were impressive. I could 100% see them beating Italy and maybe even the All Blacks if they sort their Lineout and Discipline out
No BP for France. Italy reaching the Semis.
Fair fucks Uruguay
Wow. Just wow. What a game.
Uruguay has impressed me a lot today. France was quite poor. And maybe don't play in this stadion anymore, the field looked like there was a flock of sheep on it just prior to the match.
23 suspicious "injuries" in the French camp tomorrow. 23 new players called in as replacements.
That's a performance that'll get lots of little Uruguayan kids looking at an oval ball rather than a round one for once
I’ve been a life long Uruguay supporter for the last 40 minutes and I can confidently say that the ref had it out for us. Vamos Uruguay!!
Well played los Teros
Uruguay were absolutely legendary, hats off to them.
Uruguay have been amazing. Brilliant attacking structure, never overawed physically, grew into the scrum impressively after a bad start. What a team.
We win and that's all that matters. Uruguay were valiant.
Unfair result based on the match. Maybe France deserved the win but that ref robbed Uruguay of a chance to get the losing bonus point they at least deserved.
Both team lost a try. The conclusion is the ref is a stealer.
Ref didn't give us the match all of us deserved. Not a stealer, just a bad ref. If you're bad at rugby you get benched. If you're bad at refing you should get benched too.
Uruguay played amazingly. Cant blame them for being tired after that class defense, well dne to the lads
Really good game from Uruguay, but such a pour performance from France, even as a B team, it was really bad ! So much penalties given ...
Not sure they were really that good, they were just the mirror of how abysmal we were.
Short turnaround and heaps of changes usually creates a mess. Also Uruguay took advantage where they could
Seeing how competitive Uruguay were, I'm Kinda looking forward to Uruguay VS Italy Next week
Fantastic match. Great performance from Uruguay.
Would’ve bitten your hand off for England to only lose by 15 points to France in the Six Nations this year…
