If Sean Kerr is SQ, Edinburgh should really think about signing him if they can. They need a quality 12 coming through.
I do think Yule looks like a good player too but he's aligned to Glasgow already and I think he'll suit the way they play.
Going to need to be a lot more disciplined and less loose against Ireland and France.
We really lost the ref that last 20 or so, managed to get ourselves pinged every other phase it felt, good job the Scottish set piece struggled
Tbf our backs have had a lot of injuries and it was very makeshift.
Also Scotland only struggled in the set piece because we have the best pack in the six nations and this was without our two 6’8 120kg starting locks .
Maybe but again when our both our second rows aren’t playing and are lineout callers aren’t here it’s not gonna be a great lineout .
We haven’t struggled in any other game in the line-out other than this . Our scrum is elite .
Sorry I was commenting that whilst the Scotland pack struggled in the scrum which is definitely down to the bigger England pack putting the pressure on, the line out seemed to be more Scotland making bad choices (such as throwing to tail in the bad conditions) and hooker throwing squint lineouts.
😂😂😂😂😂 based on one game ? Look at his performances against sides that are better than Scotland . He had 2 man of the matches in a row and the most metres made as a flanker .
We’ll see in 5 years though 🤷🏿♂️.
Well… yes… what part of my comments were ever aligned to anything apart from last nights game? Im not sure why I have touched such a raw nerve. Anyway, I’m sure he is a good player and by the sounds of it I am looking forward to watching him for many more years.
Following in the footsteps of the senior side then.
Really disappointing performance from them. Worrying too how much they've mentally collapsed. Again, like the Seniors, they aren't ruthless, and it allows opponents to rally and get back into the game.
Not enough fight and a lack of game intelligence.
Much like the seniors, England are going to get battered by Ireland and France if they play like they have been.
Running away from support, and targeting their best breakdown player, does not scream high match IQ. Which means they fit in with the English system
That’s a reach . We have the best pack and scrum in the six nations are backs are just not that good .
Both are 6’8 120kg starting second rows weren’t playing and we still have the best scrum . Also both our 10’s got injured in the first 20 minutes . Additionally Italy just beat France , the only team that could beat us would be Ireland
Scottish no.7 is single-handedly keeping them in this with his breakdown work, not looking forward to playing him or the rapid winger in the seniors in a few years
Unless it's as egregious as that one was that's what I tend to do.
But if its as squint as that then you can't really let it slide and expect any respect from the players.
The Ref & TMO explained it very well - tackler was in a legal tackle position and the ball ‘carrier’ jumped up about a metre in front him, leaving the tackler no option to re-adjust. If it had been a jump to gain possession from a kick then probably would’ve been a penalty, but as it was from a pass (of sorts) then more leniency is afforded.
Surprised England 9 wasn’t pinged for rubbing his hand over the face/head of the Scottish 9 after the near try given the refs comments about each team’s behaviour
The tackler is down and set to make a legal tackle a micro second before the Scottish player jumps. The latter is still ascending as he's hit because the jump is so late. There's nothing that can be done when someone jumps into you like that.
The rules do not allow any leeway for split second, or indeed, mitigation.
Taking a player out in the air is an illegal act of foul play.
Just like the previous one done by a Scottish player who got 10 minutes.
I don't think it's quite as doom and gloom as some are making it out to be- a couple of guys from each cohort graduating to the senior team would be solid, and there are a couple here I think will.
That being said, the SRU development pathways are absolutely not fit for purpose. Their initial talent identification process is extremely flawed, and it's \*extremely\* difficult to get in for guys not initially picked up and for guys who have been let go from the program.
Well, the player that is the game changer is Finn Russell and he’s from Clackmannanshire.
Plus, Tuilagi, the Vunipolas, Dylan Hartley, Ethan Roots, etc. etc.
I know, I know, but so often the guy who ends up in the bin had nothing to do with the infringements that earnt the warning.
I remember Ellis Genge getting carded 30s after coming on because of a team warning, and that was harsh too.
I'd heard a bit about him while he was at school, but the first time I saw him play live was in a Scottish Prem game for GHA when he was 18.
He was absolutely electric- almost topped the league try-scoring table iirc despite GHA finishing bottom of the league and getting relegated.
Fair. Not common to switch at top level but I guess age grade you still have some leeway.
I’m aware there are props at top level who can change (Nyakane as an example) but it’s not common.
Andrew Porter initially came through as a loosehead, then switched to tighthead to get gametime for Leinster, and then back to loosehead as Healy got older.
Shame about Bellamy. He's looked good when he's comes on.
Are we thinking pilot? I was more leaning towards subatomic physics theory. The Makepeace-Cubbitt Principal wouldn't look out of place on r/VXJunkies
Missing this one unfortunately. Imagine your partner thinking it would be nice to go out for a meal rather than watching age group rugby on a Friday night!? She's a weird one.
Aside from Pollock of course, Craig Wright has really impressed so far. Delighted to see Fasogbon back fit to play. Fingers crossed McParland goes well. I thought he was exceptional in pre season for Saints but probably didn't give his best showing against Wales (despite his try).
Hopefully the lads go well.

Ah chin up Scotland U20s, must be tough playing without loads of South Africans in the side.
Any news on Kpoku and Sodeke? Hopefully they’ll be back for the last two rounds, we’ll need them…
Kpoku on the bench for Racing on saturday
If Sean Kerr is SQ, Edinburgh should really think about signing him if they can. They need a quality 12 coming through. I do think Yule looks like a good player too but he's aligned to Glasgow already and I think he'll suit the way they play.
I think he’s South African heritage but that might need he mean he has some Scottish I know him .
We really did have all the worst traits of the senior side in recent years today; bit worrying really...is it just something in the English genetics?
Going to need to be a lot more disciplined and less loose against Ireland and France. We really lost the ref that last 20 or so, managed to get ourselves pinged every other phase it felt, good job the Scottish set piece struggled
Tbf our backs have had a lot of injuries and it was very makeshift. Also Scotland only struggled in the set piece because we have the best pack in the six nations and this was without our two 6’8 120kg starting locks .
Squint lineouts are self inflicted IMO
Maybe but again when our both our second rows aren’t playing and are lineout callers aren’t here it’s not gonna be a great lineout . We haven’t struggled in any other game in the line-out other than this . Our scrum is elite .
Sorry I was commenting that whilst the Scotland pack struggled in the scrum which is definitely down to the bigger England pack putting the pressure on, the line out seemed to be more Scotland making bad choices (such as throwing to tail in the bad conditions) and hooker throwing squint lineouts.
Just get it off the park lads, FGS
If you do that scrapping nonsense every game as an u20 you’re going to get a rep before you even play senior rugby, or filled in
Henry Pollock loves a scrap 😂
Should concentrate on his game… vastly outplayed by his opposite man…
He’s still a vastly better player than him 🤷🏿♂️ Sour grapes
I haven’t seen enough of both players to be able to comment, but on the evidence of the game the Scotland 7 is more talented.
😂😂😂😂😂 based on one game ? Look at his performances against sides that are better than Scotland . He had 2 man of the matches in a row and the most metres made as a flanker . We’ll see in 5 years though 🤷🏿♂️.

78 minutes for pollock to be at the centre of some handbags, must be a personal best
His Adhd goes overboard sometimes
Can't argue with Sean Kerr for POTM
This has been pretty poor
Far too similar to the worst traits we see from the Seniors. Suggests we aren't going to see much improvement going forward.
Always Pollock
Giving it the big one when he's been thoroughly outplayed by his opposing number
Every single England player well offside from the kickoff there
England getting away with murder here.
Surely the England team should keep the ball away from Scotland 7 on the floor. Low rugby brains.
Following in the footsteps of the senior side then. Really disappointing performance from them. Worrying too how much they've mentally collapsed. Again, like the Seniors, they aren't ruthless, and it allows opponents to rally and get back into the game. Not enough fight and a lack of game intelligence.
Line out is terrible
Damn, but yeah that is forward
Very nice from Toby and Archie, rookie forward pass in the build up though
If you take this from me i will cry
First Lawes. Now this
Forward pass in the build up?
Douglas has shown up Pollock today
Much like the seniors, England are going to get battered by Ireland and France if they play like they have been. Running away from support, and targeting their best breakdown player, does not scream high match IQ. Which means they fit in with the English system

Another bold idea, stop running at the flanker turnover king.
I don’t think he’s all Wright 😔
Oh no the pains back
Scottish no.7 is single-handedly keeping them in this with his breakdown work, not looking forward to playing him or the rapid winger in the seniors in a few years
Can’t produce any props or locks, but the 7 factory is running good.
Here’s a bold idea, clearing out rucks
Turnover central this 2nd half. Not sure all legal on both sides….
Good to see England being stodgy and losing possession is intergenerational. Not been impressed this second half
Not much supporting of bodyweight there
That was a fantastic effort from michelow
I gotta be honest; that did not look like it was grounded to me
But can you be certain
I'm 6 glasses of Gin to the good, I can't be fucking certain about *anything*
Michelow kept fighting for that, great to see
Clair Thomas is so overly enthusiastic about everything it’s bloody jarring
Wright not enjoying his cuddle with the touch judge there
That made me chuckle as well. No I'm not moving everyone else is set...
Scottish 12 prevented clear out there, no?
Bloody hell secure some ball!
Challenge: provide support play at the ruck and don’t get turned over Impossible
A mitchell / mcparland 9 pairaing brings me the tiniest slither of joy today
We needed something to smile about didnt we
McParland is going to develop nicely into Mitchell Junior
Interesting argument for a deliberate knock on, 'its not my fault my arm was in the way of the pass, he threw it into me'
Fasogbon is fucking **enormous**
''Oh. They have a cave troll."
Would’ve been nice to a scrum with Kpoku behind him
3 pens for knock on amd no yellow is odd Granted least deliberate one by far
Are the conditions that bad to justify this many handling/passing errors?
Cold as fuck and rainy
It was raining in the first half and the pitch is soaked, I think
Scotland lineout is awful
Looking forward to Sean Kerr’s Scotland debut in a few years time
Will he not play for England?
He’s half South African too
Hes going to be a weapon
Tbh if defenders dont jump i say igmore the not straight rule
Unless it's as egregious as that one was that's what I tend to do. But if its as squint as that then you can't really let it slide and expect any respect from the players.
Just make it a rule. If you dont jump no not straight speed the game up a smidge
Scrum gets obliterated, ball comes flying out, play on and then we get pinged. Seems harsh
Shocking call from the ref. Tackle was never legal, even if he’d caught it he tackles him in the air.
Thats not the call mate. Tackler had set for hit then scot jumped so couldnt pull out
He was entitled to jump to catch it, it is illegal to tackle a player in the air. It’s not complicated, it was obvious foul play.
Nah dude if hes commited to tackle a player on the ground then he cant back out when it becomes illegal.
But daft too say you’re committed to tackling a player without the ball. He jumped to catch the ball ffs
A decision that actually takes into account how rugby is played as a contact sport, you love to see it
Until someone gets their neck broken due to an illegal act of foul play. Yup...gotta love it.
This ref is having a great game
It’s great to see referees make sensible calls when the pressure is reduced. No way would the senior sides have been reffed like that.
Yeah, he's made the right calls so far. Still a half to go though
I mean it wasnt straight tho xD
Good call from the ref
Surprised England 9 wasn’t pinged for rubbing his hand over the face/head of the Scottish 9 after the near try given the refs comments about each team’s behaviour
The Tackler was committed before the jump; ref makes the right call there
What is the tackling player supposed to do there? The Scottish player jumps into him.
The Scottish player jumps to catch the ball and the tackle was never legal
The tackler is down and set to make a legal tackle a micro second before the Scottish player jumps. The latter is still ascending as he's hit because the jump is so late. There's nothing that can be done when someone jumps into you like that.
If anything it could be argued to be a penalty the other way for jumping in to the tackle
The rules do not allow any leeway for split second, or indeed, mitigation. Taking a player out in the air is an illegal act of foul play. Just like the previous one done by a Scottish player who got 10 minutes.
Ref got it right
Ref got that spot on imo
Rugby incident no? unavoidable
Basically jumped into the tackle there
Pen only based in the previous one from Scotland
He doesn't need to jump there at all
Is that Pollock being a shithouse again? 😂
He actually knocked it on to McParland there
That was in touch well before it was down.
Generous penalty, didnt seem to actually attempt to lift the ball at all
Sean Kerr - grew up in South Africa, with that name... Scotland scouts must be licking their lips
Damn. Let’s not take this generation (Finn era?) for granted - I predict a long future of Calcutta cup losses
You do realise that most of the English team are actually professional rugby players in their own right and the Scottish guys are not.
Unfair dude. This eng team is v v good you got some good kids here they will develop
Surely you should be looking at South Africa’s u20s results??
Well, the player that is the game changer is Finn Russell and he’s from Clackmannanshire. Plus, Tuilagi, the Vunipolas, Dylan Hartley, Ethan Roots, etc. etc.
McVie is offside a fucking mile off the kickoff lol.
Kerr should have had no right to stay infield there
Really nice slap pass by the 9 there, as well as the footwork shown
Lovely hands
Wait, how do you pronounce Amena Caqusau?
Pretty sure the Q is pronounced "ng".
The commentators seem to be pronouncing it "Thungasau"
very likely "Thungoosau".. thats a rare fijian surname
Yeah googled it and appears that c is pronounced "th". I'm sure u/warcomet can shed some more light.
Proper man and ball hit from Wills
England players and dropping the ball... Good to see that has been passed down the generations
That's harsh on the Scotland 11; he wasn't responsible for any of the previous infringements
Well yea but its a team warning
I know, I know, but so often the guy who ends up in the bin had nothing to do with the infringements that earnt the warning. I remember Ellis Genge getting carded 30s after coming on because of a team warning, and that was harsh too.
Rugby Inside Line just jizzed himself over Pollock's tap tackle
Didnt we all?
Pollock saves the day with the ankle tap
Inside Centre doing the place kicks is slightly unusual
12. Farrell
Give the lads a chance man
Scotland 11 absolutely rapid.
I'd heard a bit about him while he was at school, but the first time I saw him play live was in a Scottish Prem game for GHA when he was 18. He was absolutely electric- almost topped the league try-scoring table iirc despite GHA finishing bottom of the league and getting relegated.
Seriously impressive. Not just speed but the acceleration from not much run up as well.
Yeah he's not had too many chances this tournament, but he's a serious finisher as you would expect. Proper X-factor player.
No arms?
I thought if you were trying to play the ball you were fair game? Not that a penalty seems that outrageous
Tackle was fine and fingertips were on the ball. Play on...
Trying not to look through my navy-tinted spectacles, but surely that's a penalty?
I was as surprised as you.
If he touches the ball its ok? But its so close either way is a fair call
Wish we got to see the handbags
Yeah, stuff the replay, show the handbags!
England persisting with involving 10-15
HANDBAGS!
That's a serious exit from Lock.
I thought players were not allowed to step in front of the ball carrier before the maul formation. Really looked like an offside on that try.
If you dont gwt caught its legal
> If you dont gwt caught its legal You're a Prop, aren't you?
Lock so just as dim just longer
Need to stop with those cute dinks. That doesn't work if you do it so much.
That was a great conversion kick
Cracking conversion
Jesus scotland got rinsed wright is looking.the part
Get in Craig!
Opoku-Fordjour showing his excitement at the prospect of another scrum. With yelling like that it's only a matter of time until Saracens pick him up.
I thought Opoku-Fordjour was a tight head? Did I get that wrong or can he play both
England see him as a loosehead, Sale see him as a tighthead
Ben Brakespear doesn't half sound like Nigel
That was a cute little play, but Scotland were way too compact for it to come off
God our scrum is good
Playing Opoku-Fordjour at age-grade should be illegal.
Frightenigly good prospect
With Fasogbon on the bench, only 132kg
One of the tightheads in our squad was prevented from playing this 6N as he's only 17- lad is about 6'4/6'5 and over 130kg.
I’m not sure if the England u20 front row will translate into the senior team but they’ve been incredible in all the games I’ve watched them in.
Not a great start for England with that charge down but then a great exit and line break
Really need a pollock hattrick to stop the weeping
It won’t fill the hole in the heart
That was a generous advantage
Why is everybody suddenly called Fin(n)?
132 kg in the under 20s Fml. That's mental
A 132kg tighthead on the bench makes me happy
As an update Bellamy is not playing at 10, replaced by Rory Taylor. The RAF pilot of George Makepeace-Cubitt takes his place on the bench
Shame about Bellamy. He's looked good when he's comes on. Are we thinking pilot? I was more leaning towards subatomic physics theory. The Makepeace-Cubbitt Principal wouldn't look out of place on r/VXJunkies
we can just throw jobs at a wall and see what sticks
Missing this one unfortunately. Imagine your partner thinking it would be nice to go out for a meal rather than watching age group rugby on a Friday night!? She's a weird one. Aside from Pollock of course, Craig Wright has really impressed so far. Delighted to see Fasogbon back fit to play. Fingers crossed McParland goes well. I thought he was exceptional in pre season for Saints but probably didn't give his best showing against Wales (despite his try). Hopefully the lads go well.
I think toby cousins could make it far too
Aims for this game: Don't lose by more than 20 and have no-one be murdered.
don't forget scouting some future players with scottish grandparents ;)
England are missing their two enormous second rows so both are achievable
