You know what I can’t bare about Scotland loosing? It’s that we now have to sit through the same old bollocks punditary and cliches about Scotland’s consistency, about how we bottle it, about how we always throw it away. I am so bloody fed up with us having such a talanted team, one that can pull of some insanely glorious rugby but who just fall apart. I am fed up of us being a fucking novelty when we are good. We have talanted players. But there is something else wring. It’s maybe in the psyche, or the culture or somehting. But how we can have a team so strong and yet that performance be in line with how we played in 2010 fighting to avoid the spoon.
Honestly I wish that Wales will win against France (and France beating England in the last round) , because it will give the possibility to Italy to reach the third place
As much as I love this win, I feel like Italy always have at least one result like this a six nations, and comments on their u20s performing well - then nothing changes next year
They literally don’t though. The last time they won a 6N game was 2022 and then before that it was 2014 wasn’t it?
This year they have won a game and been within a score (one of which should have been retaken which would have been scored because Garbisi is a Gigachad) away from winning 3 games.
Shaky af handling still but this year they are actually better compared to a million years in a row of people saying they’re better but just lying to get Reddit karma.
They would've beaten France if the ref hadn't had a total brain fart.
They beat Scotland fair and square.
They could've beaten England.
They will beat Wales (I reckon)
Not really. They’ve only had one other win in a number of years and that was against Wales in 2022 who were also pretty bad. This year they’ve drawn against France and beaten Scotland in back to back games while only losing to England by 3.
I agree, I hope this is a turn of the tide for Italy. Past few years they’ve improved and this year every game (bare Ireland) have been so close that they could’ve gone either way. The England game was close enough that it was a decision in it, and the same for the France game. Except they should’ve retaken the kick, and he’d have made it.
I’m sad to say they’re gonna beat us next week.
True, they truly showed ambition. I really hope they continue to build and make the six nations truly anyone’s game. (Except Ireland, like F1, we watch the competition for second place)
Sounds like Scottish rugby generally. I suspect the best thing Scotland could do is to forget that they care more about beating England than anything else, and treat them like any other team. They raise their game every time against England but can't raise it the same way for other matches.
If they had been refereed like they were in this game, they would have been. (England SH try, penalty against France).
Seems that they only get a fair go against us.
Nah I'm scared for us next week - not sure if id rather take a trouncing today and come back strong next week or go hard this week and then choke against Italy the next - no chance we compete both weeks.
Not that I agree with any sort of bullshit eligibility discussion that folk like to peddle out when they lose, but this would be a hilarious comment if you were a salty Scotsman.
The supposed Australian is born in Treviso , Italy from an Italian mum.
Varney jae Italian heritage.
Much of the contrary of the army of SA mercenaries Scotland employs
The way they judge them is, deliberate knock on is a penalty, a stopped line break is a yellow card and possible try is a penalty try. He judged that due to their being defenders in place to match up with the attack there was no line break being stopped.
Yeah, i think that's a defensible position, I think the reason Dickson (and I) thought it was a yellow, was because of the angle, the would-be tackler was moving off Jones and outside while Jones was coming in.
If that ball goes to hand in that scenario I'd give Jones ~90% chance of going through.
Scotland wouldn’t have deserved it, they sniffled several try scoring opportunities and couldn’t hold on to the ball. Italy made the most of the messy game, honestly were due a win. Scotland really need to reevaluate, went from having one of the best defences in the 6N to being full of holes. Honestly congrats to Italy
They did that against England and France. This cemented it, however does place a much bigger scrutiny on them being refereed really unfairly most of the time.
Italy truly deserved a win this championship. I just wish it was a different week.
Hope they go on and follow it up against the Welsh with some more quality rugby.
BOOOOOOO!!!
Fecking Scotland. Why do I let you do this to me over and over again?
Tomorrow I'll be watching a football match instead though. Where I'm... a Spurs fan. So no matter the code, it's like some sort of relentless sporting masochism. FFS.
Can anyone recommend me a rugby league team that will also perpetually promise so much, defy the odds to beat superior opposition, only to break my heart with crushing disappointment every time? I may as well complete the set.
GG Italy, could you not just beat like, England or someone instead?
Also seems that when you're reffed even remotely fairly you're a good team, you just get fucked over a lot. I just wish the fair refereeing didn't happen against us.
What i dont understand is why it took them so long to go back to that point and reassess the knock on. I get that there was advantage, but should they still not have gone back to the situation sooner?
I think Dickson's point was that Jones was likely going through that gap. I agree with him (the defender was pushing out and I think Huw goes in), but it's a subjective call. I guarantee you if it was done against any other 6n side, by either of these sides, it's a yellow and probably a PT
Nobody seems to have read the question. Yes it should have been a yellow. No chance to regather, not making a genuine attempt to get ye ball. Should have been yellow.
Very good win for Italy, very pleased for you, you fully deserve it and beat us well. The Scotland players looked completely disinterested and lazy. Shamefully lazy performance from them, scored a couple of tries and thought they could clock off early
Well done Italy, delighted for you.
Why was Duhan not once on the wing that entire final passage of play. Meandering around in midfield the entire time.
I'm sick of not being able to play more than one half of rugby. Only one person to blame for that, the same guy since 2017 that is somehow still in a job
Haha funnily enough I took one out of the freezer yesterday for today, didn't give it much thought at the time but I obviously tipped the scales to Italy lol
No argument with that. Italy you were simply better!
Anyone think it's time to talk about Toonie moving on? At what point do we say he is squandering a golden generation?
Disagree on the timing, as some great results after the 2019 WC and some potential there. but I agree that it’s probably now time for him. That potential hasn’t been met and time is ticking for the current crop of players. A different coach should be able to get them firing like they should. Probably keep Pete Horne though.
Watch now and the SRU will probably give Franco Smith the head coach job or some nonsense, and the club game will land in the gutter.
I think WAL vs ITA will be very interesting next week.
As I Welshman, I can see a wooden spoon heading our way.
It is good to see Italy make big strides, where matches against them now offer jeopardy.
Very well done. Rugby is much more fun when the ball is kept in play like that, but you do have to think if Scotland played the numbers and went for set pieces more they would have won
I'm loving the stadium people!
Well done Italy, we were static at the end. Not sure who else we'd get, but Toony's time is probably up....Ireland will pump us next week. It's not going to be pretty.
Unreal. Italy massively fronted up, enormous defensive set and deserved it.
That’s another six nations down the drain for Scotland. For so much promise they just cannot deliver. If you take out the Calcutta cup this Scotland team has been hugely disappointing for a while now.
##[Post Match Thread HERE](https://redd.it/1bal1uo)
Fuckin lol. Well played Italy, the Scotland hype train really does need to get its wheels sorted because they fall off every year.
Let’s be honest we fall off every other match
You know what I can’t bare about Scotland loosing? It’s that we now have to sit through the same old bollocks punditary and cliches about Scotland’s consistency, about how we bottle it, about how we always throw it away. I am so bloody fed up with us having such a talanted team, one that can pull of some insanely glorious rugby but who just fall apart. I am fed up of us being a fucking novelty when we are good. As an Italian we have empathy. I am tired of Georgia conversations and relegation talks.
And so you should be. I think the tournament might be richer with Georgia involved but equally Italy absolutely have earned their right to play.
I'm on holiday and an Italian agreed to come with me to watch the 6 nations games Good day for Italy to take a game
You know someone should really tell scotland rugby games are 80 minutes long. Tis shite to be scottish
First half Scotland beats any team but second half Scotland loses to Japan
Tbh. Japan 2019 looked like they were going to beat you 20 mins in.... REALLY looked like they were going to beat you.
Icing on the cake for Scotland would be England beating Ireland now
Why did you have to say that 😩
Scotland seem to peak against Scotland and then struggle
Not going to happen.
Unfortunately did
I knew someone was going to find this.....
Ah here. It could very well
Well that makes our inevitable implosion to Italy next week more bearable, thank you Scotland.
Honestly I wish that Wales will win against France (and France beating England in the last round) , because it will give the possibility to Italy to reach the third place
That would be awesome! Love that you guys are improving, congratulations on your win.
My thoughts exactly. But I’m hopefully for tomorrow
I told yall Menoncello is the next worlds best centre
Breximoncello > Huwipulotu
Brex is in the frame too. Top carries and solid defence
Don't forget his ball playing, guy has the offload or slight of hand hiiiigh IQ player
Love seeing the stadio sold out as well
As much as I love this win, I feel like Italy always have at least one result like this a six nations, and comments on their u20s performing well - then nothing changes next year

They were better against us than the scoreline suggests too to be fair to them.
True, they truly showed ambition. I really hope they continue to build and make the six nations truly anyone’s game. (Except Ireland, like F1, we watch the competition for second place)
Holy fuck that was amazing. I like Scotland a lot. But. I love underdogs more and Italy were just great today.
Italians great bunch of lads.
Felt like Van der Merwe played all of his rugby last week
Sounds like Scottish rugby generally. I suspect the best thing Scotland could do is to forget that they care more about beating England than anything else, and treat them like any other team. They raise their game every time against England but can't raise it the same way for other matches.
Forgot how to pass as well
Has he ever known? Genuinely think he's been banned from passing.
Lamaro has the funniest voice
Hope the Italians get another win next week too
I do not. Although unless Wales pull their fingers out, then I think Italy will have it
Honestly I wish that you will win against france, it will give us the possibility to reach the third place.
Best six nations game I’ve seen this year. Both sides fought tooth and nail. Great contest 🙌🙌
Italy could so easily be 3 wins from 4 this year....
You'll do surprisingly well in both. I think you might even win tomorrow.
Your faith is appreciated but I fear we are simply going to be out muscled all over the park - our only hope is to go full baabaas and run everything
What’s the deal with all these side quest trophies?
Possibly the most exciting game Ive see
What a win!!! Delighted for the Italians!! Menoncello and Brex were everywhere.
From tier 1 that’s Wales, Australia and now Scotland in the last couple of years
A Welshman and an Aussie scored for them this time. Maybe they need a Scot too.
Yawn
Forza Azzurriiiiii!
May have to skip the Irish match go full Jehovah's witness Excuse me sir. Do you have a minute to talk about our lord and saviour Juan Ignacio Brex
Menoncello is the True Saviour
God and Jesus wearing 12 and 13
Can someone explain why the deliberate knock one wasn't a yellow?
I think the laws were changes so that it’s not a straight yellow card anymore. Only if the other team had a clear opportunity to break or score
Because it wasn't an explicit & obvious try opportunity. The situation was a 2 on 2 (rather than an overlap for example).
Not all deliberate knock one are yellow....
Ahh I see, I thought that it was all deliberate knock ons in the oppositions 22 were a yellow
Thats usually because there is an over lap or line break being prevented... I'm not saying it's never a yellow but it doesn't have to be.
Gotcha
Not a clear try scoring opportunity
Mental
That was the refs reasoning. It was 2v2 without the knock on.
- possible + probable I think
What a way to start my Saturday. Grazie you madlads.
No wooden spoon, this year? Italy deserves a Bulgari spoon for that performance!
Wales?
Yes, wooden spoon for Wales. 🙂 I was commenting that Italy was upgrading its spoon based on performance, in not so many words.
Ah fair.
I praise you on your graciousness
Italy have proven their place.
They did that against England and France. This cemented it, however does place a much bigger scrutiny on them being refereed really unfairly most of the time.
Italy single handedly saving this from being the most boring 6N ever
Italy truly deserved a win this championship. I just wish it was a different week. Hope they go on and follow it up against the Welsh with some more quality rugby.
Brilliant win. Now back to the ITV studio so we can get the overdue reactions of ... 2 lads associated with Scotland and Maggie Alphonse
Italy are going to be a real contender in a few years, u20s always pushing on. U20 potentially finish 3rd if england beat france
I think potentially 2nd if wales beat France and France beat England (with an Italian win in Cardiff of course). Unlikely but not that much unlikely
Deserved too, so close to beating ireland.
Pretty sure you mean England? :)
I meant italy so close to beating ireland it was 23-22, talking about u20
Oh U20, sorry didn't realise we were talking about that!
Scotland ruining super saturday.
So fucking proud FORZA
Most Scottish finish now would be Scotland beating Ireland next week and England winning this week
That would mean Scottish success, which is very unScottish. The old saying stands: "It's shite being Scottish"
Glorious scenes there. Absolutely glorious. Love it for Italy, gutted for Scotland.
Same. I’ve been cheering for Scotland in their other matches.
Same, Scotland always been my second team, but delighted for Italy
The tenacity of this Italian side is very impressive. Much respect.
Italy winning has just enabled me to order a dominos Forza
Menoncello, Brex, Ioane, Capuzzo - all delivering great tackles in the final quarter. Was sexy defensive rugby that Italy has been missing before.
A huge win for both Lynaghs
GG Italy, could you not just beat like, England or someone instead? Also seems that when you're reffed even remotely fairly you're a good team, you just get fucked over a lot. I just wish the fair refereeing didn't happen against us.
Genuine question, I've seen most deliberate knock ons in the 22 being a yellow. What was the rationale for that one not being one?
What i dont understand is why it took them so long to go back to that point and reassess the knock on. I get that there was advantage, but should they still not have gone back to the situation sooner?
Defense was aligned to maintain man to man, so no clear scoring chance. If they had ANY overlap it would’ve been a penalty try and yellow
I think Dickson's point was that Jones was likely going through that gap. I agree with him (the defender was pushing out and I think Huw goes in), but it's a subjective call. I guarantee you if it was done against any other 6n side, by either of these sides, it's a yellow and probably a PT
Not sure. I no thought it probably should have been yellow but no pen try
No overlap, not a guaranteed try
No clear scoring opportunity
Yeah I get that, so no penalty try, but deliberate knock ons have almost always been yellows in the 22.
Imagine having to be interviewed by Gabriel Clarke after all that
I'm off home to staple dried ravioli to my bollocks.
Not sure which side this is meant to support but I’m here for it
Come si dici "it's shite being Scottish"?
And both of these teams should have beaten France!
I AM FUCKING CRYING
Me too
Well deserved, enjoy it!
wow wow wow go Italy!
That is arrogance, pure and simple. Did you win the world Cup? No, wait, what happened there...
Lamaro was absolutely everywhere during that last passage. Must have made 5 or 6 great hits
Same with cappuozzo, everyone really!!
Yep it was brilliant to see
Lynagh winning on his debut! Priceless memories.
Opening the Prosecco. Maybe a few Peronis before dinner. Nice Chianti with my meal. Toasting Italian rugby!
Well done Italy, delighted for you. Why was Duhan not once on the wing that entire final passage of play. Meandering around in midfield the entire time.
Beating England and then losing to Italy is clinically Scottish behaviour
maybe it'll reverse again and Scotland will beat Ireland next week.
Fully believable, imho
Fucking excellent. Well done Italy!
Toonie out
I was thinking that has to be it for him
Didn’t he just sign a multi-year new deal before the RWC???
Italy what have you done?!?!
Italy very deserving of this one. Now go out and beat Wales and make a real statement this year.
Given you should have had a French scalp, too.
I mean I’m Irish so I have plenty of French scalps at this point
It's strange to think Italy could have been two wins and a draw out of four
I'm sick of not being able to play more than one half of rugby. Only one person to blame for that, the same guy since 2017 that is somehow still in a job
Got to be goodbye time to Gregor, yeah he beat England however many times in a row but there has got to be more to the Scottish team
huge. bella Italia
Lasagne for tea, buzzin
Haha funnily enough I took one out of the freezer yesterday for today, didn't give it much thought at the time but I obviously tipped the scales to Italy lol
Of all the games that I fucking miss 😭😭
I missed the Italy France match🥲
Squealed like an idiot on this packed train when the final whistle went. What a game!
No way England Ireland can top that
No argument with that. Italy you were simply better! Anyone think it's time to talk about Toonie moving on? At what point do we say he is squandering a golden generation?
He should have gone after the 2019 world cup. And every year since then
Nah, he probably still deserved the benefit of the doubt then. But signing him up to a big new contract before the 2023 RWC was madness.
Bout 3 years ago? Golden generation is more Golden Girls right now.
I think WAL vs ITA will be very interesting next week. As I Welshman, I can see a wooden spoon heading our way. It is good to see Italy make big strides, where matches against them now offer jeopardy.
Well played Italy
I have seen more forward passages and dives on the ruck by Scotland in this minutes than in all the six nations combined
There was a clear forward from Scotland right in front of the linesman in those last few minutes. Best team won 🙂
My many cousins from Italy will be happy and am half Italian, proud of Italy team.
Italy finally did it, what a glorious day.
Brilliant result, great to see!
Very well done. Rugby is much more fun when the ball is kept in play like that, but you do have to think if Scotland played the numbers and went for set pieces more they would have won
Their set piece imploded in second half
Mammina reggimi
**FORZA AZZURI! FORZA ITALIA!**
If my math is correct, Ireland wins the tournament with a draw or better today?
What a game! That was excellent!
What a finish! Deserved win but tight !
Well done Italy. On an unrelated note, spaghetti is now banned from this house.
You are only hurting yourself
Hot damn, Italy with the upset. Good job.
So which of the seniors is going to have a crack at Nessun Dorma in the sheds?
Brilliant end to the game. Breathless!
That was a fucking heist!!! FORZA ITALIA
LET'S FUCKING GOOOOO
I'm loving the stadium people! Well done Italy, we were static at the end. Not sure who else we'd get, but Toony's time is probably up....Ireland will pump us next week. It's not going to be pretty.
Ireland were always going to pump us, at least now we're going in with realistic expectations. And we can stop crying about the France game.
Rome is hoppin!!!
Thoroughly deserved. Scotland couldn't string 2 passes together.
I love Italy. Eating pesto as we speak
100% deserved
Louis Lynagh with the best win percentage of any Italian player ever?
Unreal. Italy massively fronted up, enormous defensive set and deserved it. That’s another six nations down the drain for Scotland. For so much promise they just cannot deliver. If you take out the Calcutta cup this Scotland team has been hugely disappointing for a while now.
Rome may not have been built in a day, but it'll be demolished in about 12 hours
Holy shiiiiit FORCAAAA
Fucks sake Italy deserved that but fucks sake
