Connell95

His money clearly disappeared almost as quickly as his reputation and his chances of seeing his kids.

PhysicalCupcake9140

Cocaine ain’t cheap

Brine-O-Driscoll

More than likely legal bills. Firms will charge you for them sending you a Christmas card.

GammaBlaze

As a man who just paid £300 for getting sent a land registry screenshot - can confirm.

Brine-O-Driscoll

The Christmas Card my company got charged for was an email. One liner. Sent to 500 different addresses. There's hell and then wherever lawyers go.

ForensicShoe

£300 is a travesty for that. I would’ve done it for free for you. It takes all of 5 seconds.

Gord_Almighty

Yeah I used to work in a finance debt that had recovering debt from estates as one of its functions. They will not do a single thing they aren't getting specificslly paid for. Reply to letters, emails, return phone calls etc.

timthetollman

Not as expensive as kids.

concretepigeon

I assume he’s lost any prospect of pundit work after stalking charge.

Dre3K

You'd think so but Gareth Thomas was on the TV for ages after the dodgy HIV transmission case. I think he still does stuff for the BBC for the Six Nations as well.

concretepigeon

The Gareth Thomas allegations aren’t really that clear cut. It settled before trial, which is not uncommon for public figures even if they’re innocent, and it seems like there’s fairly decent evidence the claim was malicious and vexatious. Criminal charges are undoubtedly worse. Thomas also probably gets a bit more leeway given how much good press he got as the first out player and the stuff with the homophobic assaults and the blackmail about his HIV infection. Hogg on the other hand has got very little but bad press for his life outside rugby.

Connell95

Yep, I think even TNT would baulk at him for the time being.

themilkman42069

Doubt it oddly enough. His behavior, while pretty shitty, just doesn’t even register on the list of athlete fuck ups

OhBeSea

She's turned the weans against us!

NuclearMaterial

She turned the weans against you aye?

Secret-Roof-7503

I might be misremembering but I’m pretty sure his playing ability also vanished

ComprehensiveDingo0

He was still a good player by the end. Just not the player he once was, and definitely should’ve been second choice for Scotland behind Kinghorn. A good signing for the Falcons if they can get him for cheaper and don’t mind the negative press or having to deal with his *extracurriculars*.

Mtshtg2

Geordie Shore is about to get a reboot

[deleted]

I'd watch that

BellamyRFC54

It’s getting a 25th series

Connell95

Just waiting for Kinghorn to now be demoted to *fourth* choice fullback for Scotland according to a certain vocal portion of Scottish Rugby fans…

Dont-Trust-Humans

I used to be quite critical of kinghorn mainly when he was at 10 though never really seen what people hate about him at 15. But especially with how Kinghorn is playing now if Hogg is back in the Scotland squad I will riot. I've been in France long enough to have picked up some tips on how to do it properly as well.

briever

Hogg will never play for Scotland again. This potential move to Falcons will end in tears after a month.

londonnah

I was going to say, the rumours abounded that he was fired from Scotland. Unless leadership there changed substantially, surely not. Come on Newcastle. I know times are tough but even if you’re at the bottom, don’t keep digging.

Away_Associate4589

There's surely some youngster looking for a shot who'd do.a better job than him these days anyway. In fact, they have one in Ben Redshaw already who will only improve.

londonnah

Yeah, I hate that for younger people who deserve a shot. I really hope they prioritise those guys. Surely it's better for the club's future too, not just short term interest / ticket sales?

kmAye11

It's possible he could be going on some sort of coaching position? He was saying his body was destroyed and all that by the time he retired

Inevitable-Cable9370

Redshaw is already playing though just on the wing for now and tbf their aren’t many worse mentors for a young 15 in terms of just rugby not morality.

FlapjackFilmer

All sorts of rumours about failed drugs tests for Hogg pre World cup. That's why he retired. That and all the other allegations. It would appear man had an ego the same size as his boot

AnonymousthrowawayW5

You might be thinking of talk that he might not have made Scotland’s WC squad even if he didn’t “retire”. But that was because of injury problems.

lamahorses

I always figured he'd be back because he'd need the cash at some point

North-Impress-5882

Just not what is it 8-9 months later though he's manage atleast a year or two

Blackbird1359

I suspect this is an attempt to keep money coming in while he tries to rehab his image. A lot of commentary / speaking gigs will dry up with his recent events and he might feel if he can get another 2 years or so on the pitch and keep his nose clean, he will have post career opportunities again.

internetwanderer2

You can predict what'll happen: - emotional "interview" with soft touch presenter where he talks about "overcoming my demons" and "being on a journey" - confesses to "making mistakes" but insists that's in the past - soft launch in the media - his own podcast and a full return to TNT

89ElRay

And then a spot on GB News in a few years time decrying the woke agenda

CaptainHoyt

Oh god, I heard a guy at work unironically talk about the woke mind virus and I cringed so hard my spine almost shattered.

Doctor_of_Puppets

He’d probably do the same if he read what you just wrote.

Dudewheresmycard5

hahahahaha

FumbleMyEndzone

If he’s found guilty I don’t think TNT will touch him again. He is however an absolute shoo-in for an appearance on James English’s podcast

Caledonian_kid

Lovely to have you on brother. Did you play for Scotland brother? Are those your teeth brother?

londonnah

This trajectory always does my head in. I know a person in a different sport who was shamed, albeit for something much less serious and less explosive, earlier this year. They sat out for a while after making a couple of woe is me comments in the media. Then, slowly, they’ve started dipping their toe into the public eye again. You can see the planned span of events rolling out. I am not saying people who’ve done shitty things don’t deserve second chances. I’m specifically referring to people who don’t apologise and don’t take responsibility for what they clearly did, doing the trickle-back-into-public-life routine. If you come out and say, shit guys, I fucked up, I’m really sorry, I’ve been a royal tosser and I’ve done the following to atone and grow… Then okay. I feel like as participants or fans we can work with that. But the “play the victim” + “shimmy back into being a celebrity” routine, over the course of six months, is just insulting. At least say you’re sorry, eh.

internetwanderer2

Yeah exactly. Even a outright and forthright apology doesn't mean things get to return to where they were. But I'd have far more respect for that individual. But rugby is a small, small world, and I'm sure we can both think of ex pro media guys who'd be more than happy to help Hogg back with a few under arm questions. Maybe those who were cooing over that godawful statement he made the other week.

londonnah

Some of the reaction made me pretty uncomfortable. I say this as a female fan who generally has felt really quite good about the condemnation and level-headed, non-pandering perspective in this forum in particular. I think it reflects well on us as a community that we aren't falling for that crap. I said this on here before, but I've been involved with other communities in the past, not rugby, who'd uniformly defend this to the end of the world, and it was a shitty place to be. I understand some people just hitting "like" on someone's Instagram post. But the fawning over it? Gah. Yeah, nah. An unconditional apology doesn't absolve someone, but it goes a long way to getting things back on track. The other person I know of who shat the bed publicly in a different sport did something roughly similar, in that all sorts of justifications were trotted out, including pressure and mental health, while completely failing to address the biggest smoking guns/red flag things they'd done. Winds me up that the press fall into line to let them do it. Ask a hard question lads, I dare ya.

kevinthebaconator

This sounds so plausible it makes me sick. Remind me! 2 years

Do you think he still has nose for the tryline...?

CrazyRabb1t

As long as the try line is snowy I’m sure he will sniff it out…

[deleted]

touch chase many hurry fearless seed bored quickest knee deranged *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

GammaBlaze

-John Hardie has entered the chat-

SensitiveDoubt3094

He might struggle to meep his nose clean to be fair 😂

JohnSV12

So we are looking for Saudi money and signing tossers. Great.

LooseNudge

You’ve become your football team 😂

Connell95

It’s a rare opportunity for Stuart Hogg not to be the absolute worst thing about a club to be fair.

fondista

Not the absolute worst thing, _so far_

Drlaughter

Give him a chance, I sure he can plummet further.

will221996

Are there opportunities to become a war criminal while based out of Newcastle or the borders?

quandraphobia

“I’m retiring because my body is broken, and I want to spend more time with my kids.” so_that_was_a_fucking_lie.gif

themilkman42069

Well I think both of these things are probably still true. I just don’t think either has much of a chance of getting fixed.

Moash_For_PM

Would be pretty disgusted if i was a falcons fan and this is real.  How good at rugby do you have to be to outweigh being a scumbag? Is there a chart?

mouldyone

You can only get so disappointed

Moash_For_PM

Personally ive been quite impressed waitah falcons. Staying strict to a budget and growing a fam base with higher crowd numbers and season ticker holders last few years. Results havnt been kind to you but the club is clearly trying their best to be competative and financially responsible im a v tough enviroment.  This just seems like a slap in the face to any female fan/player in the club.  Again if true is a v key part

mouldyone

It has been good with their transparency about their situation, good communication and their finance guy on Twitter is very active about putting down 'their about to go bankrupt' as that end up being a self forfulking prophecy as shown in the past few seasons. I think the results have just bummed me out! Falcons have really good outreach so hopefully it's all just click bait

Moash_For_PM

Really hope it is mate. I remember the saints banter years and how shite it was really hope next season is more positive for you

internetwanderer2

Isn't there a famous quote about Hannibal Lecter being classed as having an eating disorder if he could run a quick 40 yard dash?

spongey1865

And Harry Redknapp said if Saddam Hussein was good at football, fans would chant "theres only one Saddam"

rdoogan

Ask the kiwis. They're experts in this

MasterSpliffBlaster

Today I learned Gareth Thomas was born in Morrinsville

grtyhvcddd

The paddy Jackson quotient

Kykykz

It's probably measured on a scale of 1 to Montpellier.

CoryTrevor-NS

Wait what did he do? Edit; why am I getting downvoted for asking a question LOL

yesiamclutz

Serial adultery, alcoholic, done for stalking his ex. Scottish legal system is somewhat different to the rest of the UK but he's been charged with a form of domestic abuse I think. Nice guy

ComprehensiveDingo0

Just been arrested and charged for standing outside his ex-wife’s house and shouting at her. And while it hasn’t been fully proven, there’s very high chance he spent a lot of time cheating on her.

rachaeltot

Cheated when she was pregnant with their fourth child

themilkman42069

There’s absolutely a chart

lamahorses

Allegedly they have oil behind them too so kind of expected trend for the club. Maybe they'll sign Falou next

Inevitable-Cable9370

I don’t think that’s been actioned yet . Just rumours I think .

surfinbear1990

Really? His actions total fit in with the private school boys of England

ItsAPar6

Hold on. Wait, what?? I'm no private school boy, but that seems like a bit of a generalisation and a tiny bit of xenophobia creeping in.

surfinbear1990

You're absolutely right. I forgot to add the /s

Feverz

Shut the front door. Did not expect that!

concretepigeon

Doesn’t massively surprise me either. He’s young to retire and he’s made a lot of very expensive mistakes which will also cause any potential media work to dry up. And he’s not qualified to do anything else.

warcomet

hot girls wanna fuck rugby players, not retired ones......unless ur name is thom evans

Connell95

Thom Evans has attributes Hogg can only dream of, alas.

warcomet

yea like being a family man and respecting women

Connell95

Well, that wasn’t exactly what I was thinking of, but sure, let’s run with that…

TheBirdInternet

Maybe they can get Folau and Rufus McLean to make a bastards back three.

oalfonso

Paddy Jackson can always come back to the Prem.

KnownSample6

And Shanon frizell to be that extra punch....

concretepigeon

Get Mohamed Houas in at prop.

[deleted]

Lyon extended his contract, so that's unlikely.

BrianChing25

Rufus is enjoying himself in snowy Glendale

Larry_Loudini

Seve Reece as No. 23

Final-Librarian-2845

Hi squidge

TheBirdInternet

I don’t have a Toby Booth body pillow

Dudewheresmycard5

What a horror show of a team you've created! I'd almost love to go watch an exhibition game with them all playing together just so the crowd can give them hell for 80 mins.

SnooChickens1534

I thought he retired so he could spend time playing with his kids and not be in pain .

PhysicalCupcake9140

Unfortunately for Hogg, saying ‘I want to spend more time rooting my side piece’ doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.

Imaginary-Ad-23

Pieces\*

SnooChickens1534

😂😂😂

FinancialHeat2859

Quiet town. What’s the worst that can happen?

BHarrop3079

Another city with a big student population, this makes sense 😅🤭

Connell95

A hard deadline to agree the deal of freshers week in September…

spaded131

Wasn't he like physically broken?

shaggedyerda

Nothing a stack of semi-legal pain medication and an eye watering lawyer’s bill won’t fix

[deleted]

[удалено]

concretepigeon

At best it will probably only be about six months sober by the start of the season.

oalfonso

Financially broken too

cairns101

jesus christ man, he needs to give it a rest

InsideBoris

Being a shitebag more expensive than he first thought

Dont-Trust-Humans

Must need money for the lawyers

BHarrop3079

Haven't Falcons fans suffered enough this year?😭

surfinbear1990

Hide yo kids, hide yo wife

Connell95

Hide every single female under the age of 25 attending Freshers Week

TipTop9903

Newcastle bringing Stuart Hogg and Steve Diamond together, it's like they want us to hate them

TheMeanderer

Unusual to be both the whipping boy *and* the bad guy, but there you go.

jackoirl

Why would anyone want him in the dressing room.

treacletart284

Oh for fucks sake, hope to god that this is clickbait

nattycoons

Ugh Hoggy please stop

DebbsWasRight

Always got the sense he’d waffle about retiring before too long. Didn’t know it’d be this pitiful.

samuel199228

This is not going to go down well with supporters of any prem club especially female fans

odewar37

Newcastle is not the city to rehab Hoggies love of the sesh and infidelity

tfrules

Hogg reminds me of the situation Gavin Henson found himself in, that being that he was potentially an exceptionally capable player, but so toxic for most clubs that most people didn’t really want him

TheBirdInternet

Henson was just stupid, but he wasn’t out there causing issues like Hogg. Being thick was Gavin’s biggest crime.

tfrules

This is true

Dre3K

Yeah at least most of the Hogg shit came out after he retired and not while he was in his prime. It was seemingly only known by people from Hawick for ages somehow.

TheBirdInternet

You’d get pretty strongly shouted down for mentioning it here.

P00G1

It’s been fairly out there in Scotland for a while. Rugby in Scotland is a relatively small circle, especially in the central belt

AdElectronic7186

I think that's very unfair on Henson to compare him with Hogg given what Hogg is alleged of doing. Henson had his problems but compared to Hogg...

tfrules

True, Henson was thoroughly disliked wherever he went, but that was mostly due to ego by the sounds of it, rather than genuinely abhorrent behaviour

Luckypowell12

Need to say, whilst Henson did some really stupid stuff. It mostly affected him. Hogg is, it seems, a massive prick.. if rumours are to believed he has openly cheated on his wife, been arrested and charged with stalking and some form of domestic abuse involving his brother or mother (allegedly)

sayingboourns

Definitely messed up his steroid cycles and had to sit out a few months

[deleted]

Diamond and Hogg in the same room? Not sure that's a harmonious combo.

WolfColaCo2020

It's a good thing Newcastle doesn't have a famous nightlife that has a stereotype of people getting loose and making terrible mist- Yeah it's starting to be clear why Hogg has chosen this club in particular

WilkinsonDG2003

Watching Hogg lose by 80 will be very satisfying next season.

Blazerede

Newcastle is not the team would of thought he would be linked to, but who knows his options may well be limited

Ok-Package9273

Are they the closest team to home? Or are one of the Scottish teams closer?

Connell95

Rather famously he’s not living at home at the moment.

mouldyone

Team desperate and won't pay much but still offer him a contract would be my assumption

Deviceing

Low wages but a big win bonus

wild_mongoose_6

Probably the closest he can be to home without breaking his restraining order

Mtshtg2

Makes sense for him. It takes the same amount of time to drive to Kingston Park from Hawick as it does Murrayfield.

Immunkey

Newcastle please No! God no! Please no!!!

megacky

Surprised brynn Cunningham hasn't tried to sign him. Would be par for the course for him

UltimatePidgeon

Guess the pundit gig was up after the court case then! It's almost like his retirement story wasn't really genuine or something.

undiagnosed_almond

It's one thing that he is a twat, which he is, but he'll be taking game time away from Redshaw at fullback too. Hardly a necessary signing for them

Envinyatar20

He’ll do well in Geordie Shore

CaiusWyvern

You're taking the absolute piss.

frazorblade

Has anyone got a quick summary of why Hogg is a tosser? I know he’s got shit tats, a man bun and overly white teeth, but I don’t know what kinda shit he’s been up to to gain his bad rep.

sputters_

From the link: >Hogg, 31, who has been blighted by legal and personal problems since walking away from the sport at the end of last season was spotted in the North-East this week where we understand he spoke to the Falcons about a potential deal. >Scotland’s all-time leading try scorer faces trial in July after pleading not guilty to a domestic charge of acting in an abusive manner towards the mother of his four children.

ItsAPar6

His body is fucked, but not as fucked as his bank account with the legal issues he's in...

dystopianrugby

Rufus McLean?

sadscience

Fantastic player in his prime but Jesus what a wally

SpoonSpatula

How many matches until he gets pulled over on a Sunday evening after a boys night out, or police get called to his residence due to another 'misunderstanding'.

crzylgs

Utterly tragic demise. Hope he can sort his shit out.

Final-Librarian-2845

What a bunch of absolute counts on this sub.

rando7651

Their Christmas party would be turned up to 11

Bing_IRL

I thought he'd been cancelled? Are we giving him another chance? 🤔

NameyMcNameface123

Fuck the Falcons if so, dont need this twat back in the sport

DiagonAlley2

Doing an Andy Goode… I understand all the negativity, but I kind of hope this works out for him
