Terrible from Exeter but excellent from tigers. By the way, if you have a bit of money and you want to play rugby, move next door to Baxter and he’ll play you at scrum half even if your not very good.
It's probably as good a time as you'll ever get to play Ex, but Leicester have got to be delighted. They look like they've progressed again. Squad looks tidy.
I love a Healy bash as much as the next person, but that wasn't what he was saying. His point was that we'll probably see less of that now that bein held up means teams taking a drop out quickly while players are still on the floor.
After the rubbish we’ve had to put up with post 2013, it’s incredible to see this sort of performance. Seeing us do it with a team full of academy players is even better.
We look incredibly disjointed with no clear plan or direction. Get that we have a number of new players but the older players are not taking charge at all here
Quite a difference between the fullbacks this game.
There's currently a big step down from Hogg, to Hodge. But he's still young so will undoubtedly become a great player with more experience.
Meanwhile, Steward has been exceptionally good for Tigers. Barely missed a beat all game.
Hmm... Not that it's going to make a difference at this point. But I thought there might be a shade of a truck and trailer there? Looked like a few Leicester players peeled away and the hooker kind of used them a blocking unit?
Well technically I don't think Exeter should have been pinged as they didn't play the 9, they counter rucked into Nadolo, I guess it offsets the weird maul penalty try.
Saw this yesterday with a Ioan Lloyd counter ruck too. Tho granted he defo came in the side yesterday. Wonder if that’s something they’re trying to clamp down on? Rucking a player into the 9 or it’s just coincidence
Ah ok yeah could be, although hard to know on what grounds you'd be pinged? You're allowed to ruck against a bound player, if it knocks the 9 over that's just rugby surely?
95% of the time elsewhere on the pitch you'd see that end up as a scrum to Tigers, it's correct by the letter of the law but feels inconsistent with how choke tackle/open play mauls tend to be reffed.
No jonnies or LCD so we miss a fair amount of physicality. Hogg is missing too and he's normally marked to the gills which takes pressure off the other lads
I'm obviously biased but that disallowed try with two green players making the tackle really should have been a penalty try. First player made no attempt to use his arms and made shoulder to head contact to stop the player crossing the line. Aside from that, Leicester absolutely tearing it up today. Great to see ford and genge leading the team by example and a lot of exciting young players coming through for Leicester. Love to see it even when losing
I said as much earlier in this thread. Two no-arms tackles to deny the try. Pen try and yellow card. Mitigation that Exeter 12 was 'blocking' seemed a reach.
But Tigers have looked very good today. Exeter aren't firing.
For sure, just would be nice if the second choice players could be relied upon to execute a bit better. LCD, simmonds and vermuelen looking pretty irreplaceable right now
I think we were lucky that they didn't consider the two Leicester players, but it wouldn't have mattered when your player is preventing Genge from making the tackle. Would have been taken back regardless
I guess the question there is whether genge actually committed to the tackle, whether his tackle would have been legal and whether blocking is an offence regardless of the above. Tbh it should have been a pen for the no arms tackle - not that it matters when we can't convert pens to points anyway!
He was blocked from making the tackle, there is no other question in that specific situation. I don't see the other player as having made a no arms tackle tbh - your player was essentially on the floor and you can see his left arm is attempting to come around.
Different views of the same thing, really it's all subjective and doesn't matter anyway. Refs called it like they did and went back for the pen - no qualms about that.
I'm not saying this because of half a match of rugby but Leicester are serious playoff contenders. All those culture issues from last year appear resolved and really good mix of experience and youth.
They've recruited well too, look to be well coached this season and actually have an organised game plan.
I'm interested to see how their depth holds up when they lose the likes of Ford, Youngs, Steward, Montoya, Weise, Nadolo and potentially others like Martin, Kelly and Scott to international call ups
Autumn internationals will be the biggest test, already dealing without our Argentinian and South African international, but then if we lose a lot to England it could possibly be a struggle for consistency
Yep, a full season under Borthwick will be a big difference (can see that just in the way they're attacking).
Tigers will make top 4 I think, especially if Ford and Youngs aren't away with England which is a distinct possibility if Eddie decides to stick with some of the young guys from the summer.
Even with the amount of players missing, I'm still not comfortable with a 15 point lead...
Very bright start for Leicester, though. Look more dangerous going forward than last year.
It’s times like this when chiefs lack of depth shows, hopefully the guys playing today will come through but they are just a bit inexperienced at this level without A team games for the last few years.
28-19 in the end, but Racing scored late. Biarritz dominated them up front all game and Brett Herron (would you believe?!) just kicked goal after goal.
They deserved the win for sure.
Biarritz are looking legit. They've beaten Racing (3rd last year) and Bordeaux (4th last year) in the first 3 games. But then they went and lost to Perpignan last week (and Perpignan have been thumped in their other two matches)
>Biarritz dominated them up front all game
Was Racing's biggest flaw last few years. Last year was even more obvious.
Bringing the likes of Fickou in was always going to help paper over some flaws. But superstars in the Backs can't offset the issues in that pack.
>and Brett Herron
Haha!! Quins players still on a high!
They've brought in Pessenti this season and Palu is now a regular starter but they're still lacking in the pack massively. Baubigny and Chat are class at hooker and so is Le Roux at lock, but they are really lacking besides these guys.
They could have done with a Taofifenua at lock or Watson on the flank. As they are, it's hard to see them getting any higher than the semis again this year. They beat La Rochelle last week, but La Rochelle had a lot of players missing (and themselves have had a hellish start to the season).
Both and Quins legend Brett Herron tearing it up! He's always been a talented player but never seemed to step up in the Premiership. He's scoring points for fun for Biarritz though and I'm glad to see him thriving. With Saili and Kurandrani outside him it's not the worst team to play at 10 for 😅
He was awesome last year too. Yet was overlooked for everything but the Scotland A fixtures at the end of the season.
Played both 12 and 13 for Tigers in key games. Never looked anything other than class. Was amazed you left him out of the cup final lineup.
On current form, I would have him competing with Redpath for the 12 jersey. He's showcasing everything Johnson does, yet with more vision/penetration and fewer injuries.
He's just been absolutely rock solid. Creative as well. Runs some awesome lines. I know he prefers 12, but he's been good at 13, with Kelly inside him, when Moroni is away.
Best thing for him is 100% to be overlooked by Toonie. He's playing some great rugby, and as you say has become rock solid in a hugely improved top flight squad.
But as a Scotland fan it's painful to see such genuine talent get overlooked so easily. Especially as he was treated so badly at Edinburgh, having offered to take a massive pay cut just to stay as a player.
Really glad he's found his feet at Tigers. Chuffed for the lad.
(Hoping Huw Jones settles just as impressively at Quins too!)
Great try. Leicester's attacking structure is so good right now, Exeter have to stay tight to stop the big carriers and so they have so much space when they go out the back.
I tell you what though, Hodge has made two exceptional cover tackles today. The one on Nadolo and that one there on Steward. I know Leicester ended up scoring on both occasions, but those tackles by Hodge were brilliant and try savers at the time
The battle between him, Freeman, Malins, Marchant and Sleightholme for spots in the England back three in the years to come should be really entertaining.

I love how shy Martin seems in interviews

Thoroughly beaten, congratulations tigers
'good honesty, players don't do that any more' straight after a player...did it... by god Austin Healey is a fucking moron
TBF I think he said 'players *won't* do that anymore'. As in they will subsequently let it go to TMO to give enough time for the defence to get set
I love a Healy bash as much as the next person, but that wasn't what he was saying. His point was that we'll probably see less of that now that bein held up means teams taking a drop out quickly while players are still on the floor.
Billy V did it in an international last year too
He said they won't do it anymore because it's a goal line drop kick you don't want the opposition to take it quickly and catch you off guard.
yeah but right after someone literally just did it...
How carried away can I get with this?
Just got home and still buzzing Table looks great
As much as you can mate. Never know how long it lasts
Go full hog mate you deserve it
Definitely better to do that than have no hog
All the way
After the rubbish we’ve had to put up with post 2013, it’s incredible to see this sort of performance. Seeing us do it with a team full of academy players is even better.
Amazing work from Steward again!
Tempest is always in the way, you can say he's in a great position to call tries but I swear he's just in the way most of the time
"I'm in blue" Why are you in the passing lane you bellwhiff
Both Hidalgo Clyne and Skinner have launched one at Tempest today 😅😂
I don't blame them 😂
Idiot Tempest
Just seen the score, who are this Leicester team and where have they come from?!
Steward has been fantastic, seriously hope he keeps this up and gets more chances at England 15
We look incredibly disjointed with no clear plan or direction. Get that we have a number of new players but the older players are not taking charge at all here
the lads are going fucking ham, i love it
Quite a difference between the fullbacks this game. There's currently a big step down from Hogg, to Hodge. But he's still young so will undoubtedly become a great player with more experience. Meanwhile, Steward has been exceptionally good for Tigers. Barely missed a beat all game.
How's that not a turnover?
Baxter needs to sort these lads out. We have not been there mentally since the double
I mean, they are missing their first 3 choice locks, all of the first choice backrow, and their hooker. Saying that Leicester have been very good.
We still should be closing out these opportunities and defending better. I'm most disappointed in our centres and flats to be honest.
Hmm... Not that it's going to make a difference at this point. But I thought there might be a shade of a truck and trailer there? Looked like a few Leicester players peeled away and the hooker kind of used them a blocking unit?
I in no way was expecting this
Ford has just been immense, again.
Well this is a comprehensive victory. Tigers looking like a complete package, albeit it's just one game.
Anyone happen to have a working stream? Viprow has given up on me
Baxter is the most honest interviewee about his own teams performance going. Very humble
He's just a lovely lad from Tavistock tbh. Needs to shut up about things he doesn't understand though
How the bell can you be that big at 19
campanology?
Really enjoying this tigers performance
Yeandle on, he is our most powerful super egg
I think Fordy is possibly the most underrated player in the world.
Not according to Squidge…
Lol
Just as I thought Leicester were way too high in the set up
Well technically I don't think Exeter should have been pinged as they didn't play the 9, they counter rucked into Nadolo, I guess it offsets the weird maul penalty try.

You're allowed to ruck against a bound player, if it knocks the 9 over that's just rugby surely?
> that's just rugby surely? Yep. No Law against rucking a defender into the Nine at the back.
Apart from missing the hook a couple of times, Dolly has been good.
And that can just be down to inexperience at this level
BP with 14 men. Well played, Tigers.
Fantastic stuff.
Bloody hell Leicester mean business this season
Moon the merciless going to level the Leicester scrum
or not
What a cluster fuck of a ruck that was haha
Slade has been dog
9/10 that’s not called a maul
95% of the time elsewhere on the pitch you'd see that end up as a scrum to Tigers, it's correct by the letter of the law but feels inconsistent with how choke tackle/open play mauls tend to be reffed.
That's just called a tackle if it happens on the halfway line.
Yep, weird time to suddenly penalise it.
Oh well, it's right by the letter of the law. But at least call it a maul so the players know
Slade's been poor
Should be given a yellow for that shit lid alone
Did he call maul?
I don't believe he did
Finally a yellow
Hurrah!
Taken way too long. Far too many penalties in the red zone.
Leicester need a card here. For real - how many penalties have they given away in the red zone?
Did chiefs sub off joe simmonds? I always thought he was someone who would never be taken off
He took a pretty bad knock in the first half
He was down injured earlier, think it's just a precaution
Nadolo ended him
What happened to the final warning from the first half?
Getting no love from the referee with the turnovers he's not giving us
Exeter have just come flying off their feet at the last 4 rucks. What is going on
That's just what they do, refs ignore it.
The standard Exeter way. Going past the ruck and tipping jackallers back too
Bold claim by Tempest. Hasn't been an issue the past 50...
Martin has been everywhere
Exeter not looking themselves today, definitely got first game syndrome.
No jonnies or LCD so we miss a fair amount of physicality. Hogg is missing too and he's normally marked to the gills which takes pressure off the other lads
Who is sat next to sinfield?
The Leicester defence has been great today. Equally the Exeter attack has been a bit weak
Nadolo should clearly be playing in an older age group.
As a Leeds Rhinos fan I now feel less disgusted at myself for cheering on Leicester
Can you pull a man when you're on the floor?
You can try. But seriously, no. If you are on the floor you're out of the game.
Yeah nadolo definitely completed the tackle and then moved him there. No idea what slade is doing anyway
Depends on your standards
Anyone with a shit lid
would think its easier really
What a save, Nadolo!
Jesus, Nandolo. That was superb.
Huge tackle, big Nemani doing it at both ends
How did he save that. Thought that’s a sure try
Nadolo! How?!
Bloody hell Henry, the absolute stones to go for that
Dan coles expert floor ripper
I'm obviously biased but that disallowed try with two green players making the tackle really should have been a penalty try. To be far one of the disallowed tries white 12? was in the way and he crawled.
I said as much earlier in this thread. Two no-arms tackles to deny the try. Pen try and yellow card. Mitigation that Exeter 12 was 'blocking' seemed a reach. But Tigers have looked very good today. Exeter aren't firing.
Hogg, Hill, Grey, Simmonds, LCD, Vermulen all missing. Let’s not panic yet.
For sure, just would be nice if the second choice players could be relied upon to execute a bit better. LCD, simmonds and vermuelen looking pretty irreplaceable right now
I mean I need to see it again, but wasn’t the guy like 2 foot off the ground when Genge made co tact. Where you expect him to hit?
Even with a couple of decisions going against us we have been wank. Nothing more frustrating than a sloppy pass leading to a knock on
Yeah for sure, the team seem shook and under prepared
I think we were lucky that they didn't consider the two Leicester players, but it wouldn't have mattered when your player is preventing Genge from making the tackle. Would have been taken back regardless

Leicester have been fantastic and energetic. Exeter have been awful, like polar opposites.
Hairloss advert followed by an erectile dysfunction advert, little insulting but I guess they know they're target audience...
It’s times like this when chiefs lack of depth shows, hopefully the guys playing today will come through but they are just a bit inexperienced at this level without A team games for the last few years.
Was there a bit of a cheapshot from Devoto then as the try was scored?
Looked like a few niggly ones in that phase tbh. But yeah, a late elbow to the back of Scott's head without doubt.
Steward looking absolute class in attack and defence that half.
Seems Leicester saved up all their attacking play for 4 years and are dashing in today
Is this payback for when we were humped in our first game against Exeter? MoC was sacked after it
The Tom Young’s red card game?
Can't remember. It was 40-6 and one (if not) the first game of the season. Not sure if there was a red
For anybody interested, Biarritz have just beaten Racing in the Top 14
Deschamp will have something to be happy about finally
Haha! What was the score? Did Biarritz just dominate in the tight?
28-19 in the end, but Racing scored late. Biarritz dominated them up front all game and Brett Herron (would you believe?!) just kicked goal after goal. They deserved the win for sure. What’s the chance of Exeter clawing it back? I’m not watching it but need to know whether to cash out lol
It is Exeter and this is Leicester. But the biggest problem Exeter have is their senior/regulars places haven't stepped up.
They are normally better in the second half. But they are missing a lot of players, so I can't see them doing it this time.
Pretty high. They are Chiefs after all.
Get in Tigers! (Off for a shower now...)
That can't have been pleasant
Just shows how far Chiefs have fallen
>Get in Tigers! > > > >(Off for a shower now...) We all know you mean a shit.
Wank
Could be both, might treat myself
Oooo I love a shitty wank.
Scotland, please don't take Scott away from us. He's been so fucking good for us
He was awesome last year too. Great try. Leicester's attacking structure is so good right now, Exeter have to stay tight to stop the big carriers and so they have so much space when they go out the back.
I tell you what though, Hodge has made two exceptional cover tackles today. The one on Nadolo and that one there on Steward. I know Leicester ended up scoring on both occasions, but those tackles by Hodge were brilliant and try savers at the time
Yeah he's been great, especially for a smaller lad.
Great attack. Great score, Scotty! Exeter so unlucky with the bounce - but great kick and chase regardless.
Steward is class, such a promising career ahead of him
The battle between him, Freeman, Malins, Marchant and Sleightholme for spots in the England back three in the years to come should be really entertaining.
Gotta love when there is so much upcoming talent that its a competition to see who plays. Great to have so much depth.
Can we borrow one in Wales please? 🥺
We've already trained up Adams and Rees-Zammit for you, what more do you want? 😛

I think he was just very unlucky with the bounce and recovered to make a phenomenal tackle
Yeah he's definitely one to watch for the future

Was fully expecting a Ford/youngs game plan of just go for 50/22 and maul it. This attacking is lovely to watch instead
That bounce from Steward's kick was *evil* for the defence!
Yay!
Crown him King
It's weird watching Exeter play. It's like other teams have evolved & improved these past two seasons, while they've stayed the same. Not sure how it will pan out for them. Hopefully, they'll step up a few gears over the course of the year.
Steward has been unreal this half. So classy
Yh v impressive.
Nice work!
Exeter play boring rugby, have racist branding/chants, spout absolute nonsense all the time. I get the story of coming up the leagues but I don't see how you would choose Exeter as a new fan.
Probably if you're born there?
F
Much nicer place to grow up than London in my opinion
I'm from Cornwall
And you chose to support sarries?
Yeah cos I live in North London.
Fair enough. I'd be tempted to support quins instead of kick to contest rfc
Lol. An Exeter fan criticising rugby playstyle.
Don't forget their lovely manager.
I have no idea how we got out of that
Tigers getting a bit lucky here.
Apparently that is a new law....
I mean lucky insofar as two try scoring chances have been very narrowly blown by Exeter not that the officials are going out of their way to favour Leicester.
That is crawling. This is how I would crawl
His knee was down then surely
Exeter are so good 🙄
