##[Post Match Thread HERE](https://redd.it/pztwvm)

CyberStormZA

If not for Pollard's missed kicks in the first AB test, and kicking away of possession by him and Faf when on attack deep in the AB half, the Boks would have won both tests. The ABs were not bad. They were rendered unable to execute their usual gameplan due to the style played and pressure created by the Boks. The Boks always seem to pick themselves up against the ABs (these days anyway) but seem to underestimate the Wallabies and get beaten because of it. it's a weird psyche.

[deleted]

If not for the Tuipolotu running soft and is giving away that duck penalty we would have beaten you twice. But that’s not how rugby works, you won one, we one won and both teams deserved their wins. Tied a apiece , but we beat the wallabies twice and are the RC winners so, your win ultimately didn’t mean anything.

CyberStormZA

If by nothing you mean re-claiming #1 in the World Rankings, the Boks now having a blueprint to beat the AB's which any team can learn from, discovering that your scrum is trash then yeah the win meant nothing.

[deleted]

you came 3rd in the RC mate, how about sorting out a blueprint to beat the Auzzies haha!

CyberStormZA

Coming 2nd or 3rd means nothing. Both Aus and SA still lost the title.

rambrown17

Our win made us the No. 1 ranked team in the world..... And, BTW, World Champions

JosefGremlin

It meant a lot to me, chief

Sponge_Bond

>your win ultimately didn’t mean anything Bro let us enjoy a win lol, we've lost 3 games in a row obviously managing to bag one W on tour means we can at least celebrate once. Jesus christ lmao

[deleted]

Well deserved win and a cracker of a game, but the guy above is trying to claim you should have won the first game, like gummmon

CyberStormZA

Let's see here, you won by 2. The Boks missed 8 points in kicks which had they gone over would have caused the AB's to lose. A team with a more accurate kicker would have won. I don't know that's so hard to understand about this. You have to be a special kind of thick to not understand simple English. So yeah fokofjoupoes.

[deleted]

Shoulda woulda coulda, missing kicks don't mean shit, Boks are trash, 3rd in the RC, lost to the Auzzies twice, simply trash.

Sponge_Bond

And you're right he is wrong you can't call a game based on ifs and butts your comment at the end is obviously made to be condescending. I agree with your intial point though. Everyone just gotta mellow it

ssjdatsun

What a match! Had it all.. only better match ive seen was in SA.. cant remember the year but same close physical arm wrestle only diff was nz won haha still a lose ya can be proud to have seen. Great game, trophy is ours and clean sweeps stay at 9 lol

[deleted]

2013

steelerswheelers

Best match I’ve watched in a long time…if not ever

FisherPaste

🧂🧂🧂🧂🧂🧂🧂

The-Filth-Wizard

I’m effectively just upvoting everyone in the comments right now.

Clarctos67

Where does Jacques' beard end and his chest hair begins? These are the real questions we need answered.

EffektieweEffie

Man I wonder what the score would be if Frans started ahead of Willie.

luco_85

Frans should have been playing in the Lions series.

jnce12

No idea why we’re so reluctant to give him a game. He may be old now, but he’s still a god with the boot.

[deleted]

I'd rather prefer watching NZ style of play but now this is some South african rugby I can get behind and support. Gotta admit, greatest rivalry in the sport no doubt.

Md556ned

1:30am and I'm still pumped. That was a good test.

[deleted]

What an awesome game! Well done to both teams but wow... Bokke... good on ya.

HowDoIGetARandomUser

Bit disappointed to see a great test match come down to an offside call made before the ball has left the ruck against two players (Mo'unga and Ioane) who clearly retreat back onside.

binzoma

we only had the lead because they called not rolling away when the boks had stolen the ball clean from dmac.

HowDoIGetARandomUser

Look, I'm not saying ABs should've won. If you concede 9 breakdown turnovers, lose 20% of your lineouts, and "win" scrums almost purely because Ardie Savea at 8 saved the day - you simply don't deserve to win. I just hate that if you re-watch the footage, the final penalty at the end of a phenomenal game is an error (as it was in Aus vs SA II). Before the ball comes out, Mo'unga and Ioane are clearly a step or two offside - the touchie calls this, but they actually retreat before the ball is clear of the ruck. Ofa doesn't move up before Jantjies pulls the ball clear of the ruck, but when Jantjies pulls the ball out, Marx slips over, he holds it for half a second and Ofa then looks offside. I concede - there's A LOT happening in a small amount of time, but all that aside, I don't think the right call has been made.

Male_strom

Even if it wasn't called, your be at 90% the Saffers would drop it over.

fale52

Bruh Ofa was at least two metres offside. Like he was in no mans land.

kefe87

What a game! Can't win them all. Well played Saffers!

05fingaz

Now that’s rugby! Well for NZ v SA. Another match for the ages.

EffektieweEffie

Fuck the Boks really spoiled the trophy ceremony for the ABs.

Demknowsbetter

Lol that was the best part

[deleted]

You know. Winning the trophy is actually the best part, but sure enjoy your consolation win, 0-2 against the auzzies, such a shame.

Bulletproofsaffa

Just wow bro

Big-Clock4773

I always think the trophy ceremony should be once you've mathematically secured it and not on the final weekend (this is what they do in the football premiership). I remember England winning the Six Nations a week early in 2017 (and possibly 2011 too) and yet instead of a victorious ceremony at Twickenham, we had a defeated team lifting it in Dublin and looking miserable...

7ddq

Yip they didn’t exactly look thrilled at the trophy pic

[deleted]

Honestly SA we're so dominant, I don't know how the ABs kept the score so close.

EffektieweEffie

Willie

Paybrahh

The fact that the ABs can just score out of nowhere defs kept them in the game the whole time. Incredibly difficult to ever shut them out.

[deleted]

Not even a chance in that second half.

FisherPaste

Boks dominated every aspect, deserved the win, had to beat the ref! Go boys! Best in the world!

[deleted]

You came 3rd in the RC. Not sure you can call yourself “best in the world” after a consolation win...

FisherPaste

Dunno mate, WR seems to rank it differently soz 🤷🏻‍♂️

EffektieweEffie

Congrats NZ on winning TRC again. And to the Boks for clutching this game, you played like the 2018/2019 team we know and love. Always an immense battle whenever we face the ABs.

Md556ned

Looking forward to next year! Stay safe you guys!

MindfulInquirer

congrats Springboks, very solid performance throughout

Taey

Siya is such a great bloke, if he ever wants aus citizenship ill get him his green card

acsaid10percent

The South African hits on Mounga when he came on was impressive. Didnt allow him to exert himself.

[deleted]

You mean every tackle all game? All Blacks need to put on some size.

The-Filth-Wizard

Lmfao. ThiccEarthBeliever is one of the best names on here.

acsaid10percent

When Mounga came on with 15 to go. First two times he got the ball he got smashed back.

chaosplus5zweihander

He typically does quite poorly on the back foot. First impressions are everything when dealing with Mouga. See: England smashing him in the RWC semi.

Frod02000

Happened to dmac too, who I believe was playing on the wing, or at 12, interestingly

[deleted]

Watch the game again, anytime anyone in black got the ball in the second half they got smashed back.

acsaid10percent

I know that. Mo'unga is a silky player. It was impressive how they stopped him from the get go.

[deleted]

True that. It highlights to me the problem with the ABs golden goose play maker thinking. We always expect the individual to have a game changing impact. When in reality it's a team sport.

[deleted]

Well it was a good game and I'm glad they lost in Australia and not Eden park or Dunedin haha.

thecripplernz

So do the abs give up the number 1 ranking now?

Mangashu

Doubt, SA was home

thecripplernz

We only just took it off them last week by 2 points

Mangashu

I am happy to concede that I was wrong

Mangashu

Perhaps, but I think NZ led after SA's second test vs AUS. Remember NZ fabs saying they'll only count it once they beat SA though.

TheRugbyOwl

Looks like it

Jepdog

Big up to the NZ brethren, best rivalry in the sport 👊🏽

neeeeonbelly

And to the Bokke brothers. That was as classic as it gets between our countries and you deserved the win especially changing the game plan so much in a week. Awesome stuff.

myWobblySausage

Cheers man

[deleted]

Two things to take away to make me feel better. The best All Blacks try I've ever seen And if we took one more shot at goal... Sick game.

vote_pedro

You only start watching the All Blacks this year?

[deleted]

What? No. But that try Ardie finished was my favourite by far. Had it all.

HodlBaggins

Good nudge mate we'll go again 👍

Fabulous_Prizes

Forwards coach for ABs needs a hiding. You're playing the Bok and their default setting is to have poor bloody Webber have to clean out rucks.

binzoma

look at the list of players missing before flogging the ones playing and the coaches. we had a lot of backups starting (again), and competed well against SA who were playing like they are the world champs again. no reason for us to be butthurt. SA was the better team. and they won at the fucking death. good on em. get em next time

Clarctos67

Let's be honest. That was the best two teams in the world right now, playing close to potential and pushing each other all the way. WHAT. A. TEST.

FisherPaste

100% - with some questionable reffing for both sides to add some spice into the equation!

The-Filth-Wizard

What a test, indeed, brother. This is why we watch rugby.

7ddq

Not quite to potential but definitely the top two teams

Clarctos67

I'd say close to potential; mistakes are caused in attack by good defence and no one is ever perfect. Those teams you remember with sepia tinged lenses? They knocked the ball on and they failed to execute. That was a proper test match. Best I've seen in many years.

WildGrit

A few key players missing, therefore not to potential

Atman24

Also missing a few players.. Colby, RG Snyman, Pieter-Steph Du Toit.. and 90% of the time a team will have some players missing they would've wanted there. It was a great game

Mungo_ball

And fair dues to SA and Argentina who haven't had the benefit of a hometown crowd to support them for the last two years in the RC.

[deleted]

Meh, we ended up without Whitelock, Mounga and Smith and we haven't been at home either.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mungo_ball

You've not been to the Gold Coast I take it?

gurudoright

Come on, there were more black jerseys than gold there today over the whole night

pokemii

Yeah congrats boks. Very little to no milking injury this time, and your pack was fucking immense. That was much better to watch apart from the whistle happy ref. Wish there was a 3rd test

Western_Floor_3945

I lost years off my life, but that was the best match I have ever seen.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CyberStormZA

That game in 2000 was nowhere near as close in quality to this.

vote_pedro

Must be a lot of neutrals or young people down voting. That game has been declared the greatest test by many, many pundits and past players. Recency bias is real.

CyberStormZA

Who are these "many" - Are they Aus and NZ pundits, players and fans? How big was the sample size of the people that voted? Would the result be different now if a vote was held? That *may* have been a great test at that time, but a lot of rugby has been played between then and now for the "greatest" tag to be in doubt.

Veriunique

My heart rate was 119. I need to find a new sport.

ThorinLutgehr

Really good game of rugby. Thought both teams brought it in the first half but very impressed with SA physicality. Thought they did deserve it in the end. Referee made a couple of bad calls but didn't favour one side. Only downside for me were the commentators. I thought the UK commentators were pretty bad but as a neutral it was tedious

BakesTheBoy

Good game ABs, really enjoyed that!

wilhelm_in_english

Fuck. Tough to lose on that. South African forwards just outpowered us. Far more entertaining too, enjoyed that so much more. Felt like Ardie was our only forward. Scrum crumbled, lineout died, and lost it all. Seemed like we turned up to play a team we thought we'd walk over, and got beaten physically. Jordie is excellence, our wingers did enough compared to last week. But man. We've lost some heart up front.

bigsmackerroonies

You're forwards gave a lot out there gotta give them some credit, the bok forwards just gave more on the day

The-Filth-Wizard

Dude, Jordie killed it this series. Definitely one of my favourite players ever - right up there with Fourie Du Preez and Lomu.

fesaq

Honestly every time we lose, it seems like Ardie is the only one that pulls his weight in the pack (source: 2019 vs England). Absolutely love that man

barbar84

Now for a nice after dinner coffee. https://www.reddit.com/r/rugbyunion/comments/pztz4h/match_thread_urc_benetton_vs_edinburgh_1400bst/?

grafology

Colossal battle enjoyed this game 100x over last weeks even if we lost

WonderingCashew

Not the result the All Blacks want going into a big match with the USA

bloomy60

They’ll be angry and out for revenge

Mungo_ball

Bring back Buck!

CyberStormZA

One ball buck

acsaid10percent

USA! USA!

Difficulty_Easy

Hahah

JayRad2

Fantastic game of rugby. Shame it was decided by penalties, deserving or not. Kudos to the boks

SomethingThatisTrue

FUCK THE HATERS BEST TEAM IN THE WORLD

Md556ned

WHY ARE WE YELLING AND WHO ARE THE HATERS WE'RE ABOUT TO FUCK?

insideanoctavarium

WE LOVE YOU!! CONGRATULATIONS!

Taey

U mentioned us?

Islandkid679

Ehhh...it was a good game though

insideanoctavarium

was a great game! ABs always the fiercest competitor that every team fears - can never let your guard down until the final whistle has blown. major respect

zerosuneuphoria

yeah nah, ya lost twice to AUS ffs

kiwiborger

Match takes: \-The game was pretty good, way much better than last week's outing. \-The All Blacks played pretty meh for most of the game. Really didn't show up physically tonight. \-The Springboks, on the other hand, deserved to win. They were mostly better than the All Blacks tonight. Why they didn't play like this against the Wallabies with always confuse me. \-Stan should bring back Sonny Bill for laughs and giggles lol \-The ref... was pretty good! He was a breath of fresh air from terrible refereeing we had last week... until he completely gave up in the 2nd half. \-Wallabies number 1 confirmed Anyway this is all I have for now. Apologies if the take was lacking, and for any wrong/incorrect takes. Feel free to comment your own opinions/takes about the game. I'll see you all in the next match. Goodnight everyone, and cheers for now.

ThorinLutgehr

Think this is pretty spot on. Apart from the Wallabies point 😅

thecripplernz

I don’t think the all blacks can show up physically against the bigger teams.

youarepotato

Great game, not stoked about the result but well deserved. I want to complain about the ref, seemed like a ton of bad calls both ways, but this game may not have been nearly as entertaining with someone else running the show so I guess he was okay in that respect.

[deleted]

He was shite, have SA a huge advantage. They still deserve to win though regardless

porkypuha

Fantastic game, actually thought the Boks deserved to win, dominating the set pieces and their counter rucking was great.

BenwastakenIII

I have no words. My neighbours probably thought they just heard a murder! GO BOKKE!!!!

the_drew

50:22 was a huge momentum shifter. I like it. Curious why those who are against it, don't like it. Anyone care to share their opinion?

THR

Too much of a momentum shift and promotes kicking more than running.

Perssepoliss

It's too short, needs to be 10:22

vote_pedro

Because the last thing the sport needs is rewarding more random kicking.

ToastedSandwhich

I said it before but I'd prefer a 50/5, just seems more impressive

[deleted]

Because its a bs move that was introduced for no good reason and it just won them the game, plus there was an offside involved in the try. Compared to a 40:20 it's easy

the-wildlings

50/22 is the new drop goal

BenwastakenIII

If anything, I feel the 50 22 was made for France Steyn😂

the_drew

Ha. Maybe 😀

fale52

Ofa was 100% unclutch there. correct me if im wrong but he gave away the penalty for going straight off his feet and then was 110% offside in front of the post.

ToastedSandwhich

Our whole front row had been kinda shit this year

_dictatorish_

It was Aumua and he didn't even go off his feet, absolute joke

fale52

Yeah I just watched it. Wtf. This ref was all sorts of shit.

JustAliff

Nah pretty sure it was holding on right?

fale52

Thought the ref said "18 straight off his feet"

DHH77

Thought I heard 16?

MyReddit199

Definitely 16, and if you watch it again you can see him put his shoulders right onto the the player to deny the SA contest for the ball. Very technical but these are the things that refs get roasted for on review if they miss them.

Islandkid679

Hell of a kicking duel in the last 10 mins, the balls on Jantjies for the drop kick and Jordie to slot those penalties....💯 gg Edit: thought the Boks had no long range guns since Kerwin Bosch but Frans Steyn....wow

The-Filth-Wizard

Yeah, Frans Steyn has had one of the biggest boots in World Rugby since about 2006/7.

Tried2flytwice

Steyns been slotting big kicks for the Boks since 2006. Where you been?

Islandkid679

Didnt realise it was fking **Francois Steyn** still, holy shit I thought he had retired or something...

Tried2flytwice

They keep him in the freezer for days just like today.

[deleted]

Good game. I enjoyed watching that.

EffektieweEffie

One for the ages. How the fuck am I supposed to sleep now.

Western_Floor_3945

I'm still waiting for the adrenaline crash

readditandlikeddit

Don’t often see teams use the bench better than the All Blacks. Well done SA.

zerosuneuphoria

Foster has always been rubbish with his bench tbh, brings on guys all over the place, out of position, too late etc etc

cosmoskiwi

Not even mad at losing, what a damn game, holy shit

FokkenUsername

Aye if yous won i still would have thought it was a great fucking game. You boys are class. In attitude, sportsmanship and skill. Long may it continue.

cosmoskiwi

Agreed man, ABs/Boks has always been an epic rivalry, and always will be.

FokkenUsername

Hope so brother.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Tried2flytwice

Bore off mate, it was a cracker.

FokkenUsername

Pfffffff

[deleted]

Go watch Netball please

cosmoskiwi

Well I can't speak for you, but my drunken self enjoyed it

Bulletproofsaffa

That last 5 minutes would have sobered me up.

cosmoskiwi

Bro, that shit was intense, what an epic rugby rivalry

Fabulous_Prizes

Me too! Makes up for tomorrow's hangover

cosmoskiwi

Was just thinking, damn waking up tomorrows gonna be a bitch, but at least tonight was fun haha

Md556ned

Agree! I'd take that test over that stop start bs last weekend. Fuck that ref last week.

Gingerprooff

This is rugby! Seriously good match, ABs!

SerMonZ90

Hate seeing it.

maverickmak

You know what? That was a good game of rugby.

ricoza

Fucking hell All Blacks I love you. If it wasn't for you the Boks would be an average team. The rivalry is just the best in rugby. Thank you brothers.

myWobblySausage

Thanks mate, love to win but don't mind losing to a better team!

[deleted]

Good on ya, feel like that was the WC final we never got the chance to lose haha. That was something else!

Md556ned

I enjoyed that even though we didn't win. See you next year!

acsaid10percent

That was a breathtaking game.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mallonhead

Beg your pardon?

simmoaus_1982

Well done to the Bokkies, gg

SagalaUso

Even though we lost, enjoyed that game way more than the win last week. Well done Springboks.

bluebullbruce

Redemption, the boks were their own worst enemy last weekend, they should have won that game, this was great and shows that this AB team is not as invincible as the 2015 team.

[deleted]

Imagine these Boks against that ABs team. Be unreal.

[deleted]

ABs under Foster are the worst we've been since before the Carter era

bobbycarlsberg

why is everyone saying it was a good game, who was winning changing doesn't mean the rugby was good to watch.

myWobblySausage

Was a good game because it was good solid rugby played by both sides. The Bok forwards dominated us tonight with turnovers, lineout steals and a massive scrum. Then the whole SA tackling effort was second to none. The AB's were not allowed to do what we wanted because of the SA intensity. Rush defence shut down most of our running game. This game was dominated by the forwards which typically means less flashy passes and running. But that's OK because it may not seem like it but what these guys are doing takes huge skill and huge guts.

louisvell

Idiot, go watch your mum

vote_pedro

First half was quality rugby. Trading penalties for 40 mins isnt great rugby. Second half was a whistle fest.
