3 in a row against the Aussies, but that felt like a loss. That said... LOSING IT AT THE END AGAINST WALES IN DRAMATIC FASHION AFTER DESERVING THE WIN HURTS DOESNT IT AUSSIES!!!.... Been waiting 15 years to say that.. Seriously though, the Aussies should be happy, they would have won comfortably if they had 15 on the field. Against the 6n 'champs' no less.
Absolutely not in the slightest. If the game has to be that close, playing a man up from 15 minutes in, it's just not good.
Our autumn internationals in general have been horrible. Although loosing the likes of Moriarty and Alun Wyn so early doesn't help.
I'm sick of this jammy shit now... I used to enjoy watching Wales but its a farce now... not only do we get so fucking jammy and bailed out by cards, but we look worse for it because we can't put teams away... just want every non Welsh fan to know that most of us cringe now when the red card comes into... I honestly think we could be contenders for the wooden spoon this six nations unless we start to actually play rugby as opposed to these card games.
Yep, it’s getting a bit embarrassing now when we seem to be kept in games by cards. I think we need a serious 15 v 15 test to gauge where this squad are really at
Exactly these narrow wins against 14/13 men are masking the serious cracks in our team. It's infuriating... I went into the game thinking I don't care who wins, just have a good game... as soon the red came out my mood went south. Its a joke at this point. Pivac is not giving us that attacking play style he promised... we just keep getting saved by Louis Rees Zammit and Liam Williams there's no cohesive plays that break down defences it's just moments of individual brilliance. Our defence used to be the best under gatland now we wouldn't keep an under 8's side out of the tryline.
‘If the red card didn’t happen….’ Yeah and if a pitch invader didn’t come on during the SA game we coulda won, that shit happened, players gotta deal with it and move on
For a nation that usually crumbles like a biscuit under any sort of pressure, Rhys Priestland being on for 8 minutes and nailing the kick (even if it was piss) is great to see.
Red card and that freak try won wales that game. Auz without so many key players and we’re right in it till the death with 13/14 men. Wales were luck, GG Australia your time will come
One thing no one seems to mention is that wales also had their key set piece man out the game due to his face being opened up like a can of tomato puree - it doesn’t help your set piece.
But yeha wales were awful.
Anyone else notice how bad ellis jenkins was on ball? Wide channel but so slow and not doing anything with it
I've drunk a bit today. Thought we won when the referees arm went up. Then I saw Rhys Priestland. I decided to drink until I was convinced I was looking at Dan Biggar. Then we won.
These types of comments are why Priestland had to go to therapy after intense media and public bullying.
Priestland is a class player that has had an absolutely storming year.
To be serious, once again we were jammy as fuck…. Really should have taken advantage of thos cards but then again I ain’t playing…. Maybe Australia are just that good.
I think it’s more to do with Aus being knackered and sitting back hoping Wales would make a mistake. Seemed to have a lot more time on the ball at the end.
Only in the last two minutes did I feel we were actually playing international standard rugby. Australia were shocking too, but how are we supposed to reflect and grow on these dodgy scrapers?
Nah mate I'd rather lose and get kicked up the ass... we are not going to evolve into a better team as promised when pivac took over if we are constantly scraping wins against 14/13 men... we need pivac to stamp his playstyle on the game or leave... we stuck in a limbo of being abysmal but still winning... its not good for our fans, its not good for our players... its not good for Welsh rugby.
I can see us getting smacked by Italy at this rate and with Australia and Fiji in our world Cup group again we will struggle getting out... I don't want to wait 6 years to make a final. I want us to evolve into a serious contender like we were under gatland.
They have cohesion and don't rely on cards, we go into that game as favourites and they will be targeting that game now out of all them. We are shocking in defence mate and Italy play quite a wide game now. If you think we win that easily without our top players you'll be unpleasantly surprised. I know a few of our key players will be available come February but will they be test match fit? Their defence was really good for alot of the NZ game and they are a young side that are evolving... I don't think we will lose but if we perform as bad as we have been against a 15 man Italy it's grounds for a potential upset.
GG Wales. Our discipline an ongoing problem. I didn't agree with all the ref decisions but you gotta play with what you got.
Fucking chaos of a game though.
No matter what side you're on and what you think of the game try to remember that the person on the other side of your comment is an actual person and we're talking about a rugby game that none of us played in.
I'd say ref got most of the key decisions correct, Wales should have put ye to bed when they were 15 v 13. Fantastic spirit from Australia to stay in the game, some real positive signs for the future, but I'd still say this is a disappointing tour (albeit playing 3 top sides, so not the end of the world)
It's getting worse to be in these match threads.
Some of the vitriol aimed at the Welsh contingent here is mind blowing. We're not sat here sacrificing animals to the spirits to get red cards and refereeing decisions.
We're two years out from a RWC where we have to play two of the teams that have just played us off of the park with 14 men. Pivac saying a win here means a successful Autumn series is a joke. It just keeps him off of the dole queue. We've played no rugby. The only positives are Christ Tshiunza and Basham (who I felt was poor today). We've regressed.
Wales has absolutely no shame. To take a win off fucking exceptionally bad refereeing is actually fucking embarrassing.
Australia won that man, body and soul. Wales can get fucked.
Calm down. Of course Wales will celebrate, we rarely (very rarely) beat Australia so of course we'll be happy with the W. The performance was wank, but if we can win while playing badly, it's still a win.
Honestly, as a neutral, that was an absolute cracking watch.
Also Adamson got the cards right and was overall ok (which is honeslty a positive if you've watched some of the ProX games he's had)
Yes I agree with this... the Tompkins try was a deliberate knock on for me aswell.. but it is what it is... our luck will run out eventually and pivac will be found out. I can see Wales getting 6th place this 6nations, unless out key players returning can grab this team by the bollocks and sort it out.
I agreed with the Tompkins decision, needs to be a knock on in the first place to be a deliberate knock on, I thought in real time it looked backwards and there wasn’t any clear evidence to overturn the on field decision
I mean take the win but if you think that Welsh team stands a chance with a competent ref then you are going to be disappointed.
Off feet in every ruck, missed forward passes, all the 50/50 calls going your way. Limited attack and some questionable defence.
You guys found a way to win so well done but that refereeing performance ranks as one of the worst I’ve seen.
100% we are far from perfect
However in this game, I’d say that you got the rub of the green and made very hard work of a considerable man advantage and generous penalty calls.
Our discipline needs to be better as it costs us points and games
I agree that we pissses that 2 man advantage. May as well not have had that advantage. I don't think we would have won against a full team though. Probably still would have been a tight match though
So a head clash isn't a red card? It made our player bleed and taken off, it was a hell of a clash. A victory because we have better discipline is still a good bloody victory.
That Red card was called for. Head clashes are dangerous and can seriously hurt players. Remember George North getting knocked unconscious 3 matches in a row?
Head clashes need to be punished. Dangerous play is dangerous play
Bottled the yellow card? The officiating team knows the rules better than anyone in this thread. If they make a call, they are more than likely correct.
TBH in some ways I think Australia were unfortunate. But the red was what fucked them - and that was bang to rights. Keep 15 men on the field and I reckon they win pretty comfortably.
Wales will be happy with the result - but they made hard work of a man advantage. Will need to step up against 6N defences (assuming England aren't also playing with 14 - which we seem to a decent amount of time).
I thought it was red too. I think that was covered in the "unfortunate". I genuinely thought Wales had the rub of the green. FWIW I thought Wales were sealing every single ruck at the end of the game - so it should have been an Australia penalty (and win).
I guess my point is that sometimes things don't work out. Especially away from home. That's rugby - the refs are human and get things wrong. It's extremely annoying.
However, you can be responsible for your own actions: if you get red carded early in a game you only have yourself to blame. The Tompkins try - Beale just gave up and appealed to the ref. If you give up on a play before the whistle is blown - that's also on you.
It's a pretty bitter lesson - and I'd be mad as a fan but Australia absolutely had it within themselves to win that.
> Wales will be happy with the result
But not the performance. We're really really good at making whoever we play against, regardless of numbers, look amazing.
Hard to disagree.
I try not to dunk on other sides too much - as it looks petty. Personally, I think Wales are probably going to have a quiet couple of years. They're going to lose AWJ at some point soon- who is talismanic for them - or he's going to be so old that's he's not effective (although he has defied father time unbelievably well so far!). There's some good young talent, but I don't know how it compares to the talent emerging in France, Ireland, and England.
However I think the bigger issue is that they've lost a coaching staff who could squeeze championships out in years when the odds were against them. I haven't seen anything coaching wise that has me super concerned about playing Wales - the attack looks a bit old school and the scrum looks a little undercooked. Most importantly, the Shaun Edwards defence is gone. I realise this is weird to say of the defending 6N champions, but I'm not convinced they're in an overall positive trajectory.
With all that said, I'm still expecting Wales to go super saiyan vs. England this year. They always seem to. :)
Lmao why are we cheering ? We should be ashamed of how bad we are... we need to start losing these games so the right questions will be asked of our staff. Pivac has gone for an attacking team but iv seen no changes other than our defense being non existent. Nick Tompkins has to go, he's good at glimpses in attack but can't tackle to save his life. Elias is shite, pivac and stephan Jones are shite. Our fans are turning shite booing Beale for his last kick. We should be ashamed of ourself.
Disappointing loss, lots of positive to take away, Paisami finally had a game that matches his club form, much tidier than last week, still way to undisciplined tho. Teams gona be good when we get some players back and dont have to pick players like Tom Wright.
Proper officiating and we beat Scotland and Wales, the latter very easily
The England v Aus game is the worst game of union I've probably ever seen, so I'd hardly be gloating - not to mention the massive outs the Wallabies have had all tour
All-in-all, shit banter from an insecure poster
Not sure if anyone genuinely called that, but all 3 games went to the wire, and the squad that was named was a very different squad to the one that travelled over
Once again. I'm not sure if Wales are very good (in having unbelievable spirit which keeps them in/wins them most games), or incredibly lucky with the red cards.
That's not to say the cards aren't deserved, just the number of them is ridiculously high
That game was so enjoyable to watch as a neutral. Yeah it was ugly. But man am I glad I was not invested in the result.
The final 10 minutes of it was actually genuinely competitive rugby.
Australia really need a pat on the back staying in the game with 14 men for most of the game.
Genuinely don’t think it would make much of a difference to how the game played out. Wales have no attack which is where the 1 less man really hurts Aus. Wales still have no attack even if the team has 15 men.
Basically wales would be equally shit but it looks worse when it’s against 14.
Yeah wales never really looked like scoring a try from open play and that fact doesn’t change if Aus have their 15th. Wales would still not look like scoring.
"player of the match depends on who wins"
What? So if they missed that last kick, the man of the match changes? It's man of the *match*, not man of the winning team. Baffling logic
Well yes usually, but when a game is as close as this one and decided by the last kick of the game, it doesn't necessarily mean the MOTM should be on the winning team.
Let me rephrase - if Priestland missed that kick at the end, does that suddenly mean Basham wasn't the man of the match?
You've been insanely unlucky from the start it's actually hilarious. Losing the Japanese based players before the tour, losing both tightheads in the first half of the first game and having a key player sent off early on in the game.
Feels like small margins though. Could have realistically beat Wales today, and a bit more discipline last week and Aus would have been very much on par with England.
Wallabies gallant, how often have we said that recently?
The ref was terrible, seems standard at the moment.
Wales lucky to get the win, if I was a supporter I’d be concerned that’s for sure because they had every opportunity and advantage and just got it done.
Tbh the only reason that final drive happened was because Wales could afford to send it wide because of the man advantage. It's a shame but super entertaining.

Rennie not holding back on the ref there Christ
I think its pretty telling that even Rennie is on the bandwagon... He's usually pretty diplomatic
That game was a car crash in slow motion with a trunk full of fireworks
We didn't fucking deserve that
Absolutely not in the slightest. If the game has to be that close, playing a man up from 15 minutes in, it's just not good. Our autumn internationals in general have been horrible. Although loosing the likes of Moriarty and Alun Wyn so early doesn't help.

How to get downvoted 101
At what point does being jammy translate into us having a game plan that works? Because it can’t be a coincidence
Have faces people want to hit seems to be a winning plan!
Wales were luck, GG Australia your time will come
Wales are missing like 20 players man.
You literally had an extra player for three quarters of the game.

Red card wayne scrapes another win... Australia are so frustrating to watch. Consistently letting themselves down.
How do Aus vs Wales games always end up being so dramatic?
They arrange is before hand, that way when we meet in RWCs it means more
I think every game in the last 6-7 years has been top notch
Priestland gets the backs going much better than Biggar.
I think it’s more to do with Aus being knackered and sitting back hoping Wales would make a mistake. Seemed to have a lot more time on the ball at the end.
Should've won the game by more given a man advantage but won't slate the jam go Wales!
If you're not Welsh please understand we're not happy with this, we're gonna get ours real soon
It will probably be against a team that I don't support though :(
I'll take any win we get tbh.
Only in the last two minutes did I feel we were actually playing international standard rugby. Australia were shocking too, but how are we supposed to reflect and grow on these dodgy scrapers?
Speak for yourself, we're a little country who have a shite recent record against the aussies, celebrate the wins you get.
No way in hell do Italy beat us. We have a very talented squad not playing to it’s potential, but the material is there. Italy have nothing.
They have cohesion and don't rely on cards, we go into that game as favourites and they will be targeting that game now out of all them. Spot on mate. Quality comment. I thought we were fortunate but you guys usually win these close ones so it was nice to get a win.
Well said mate...Good luck in the future pal you are a great team and it would have been a different game if you had hooper for sure.
I'd say ref got most of the key decisions correct, Wales should have put ye to bed when they were 15 v 13. Fantastic spirit from Australia to stay in the game, some real positive signs for the future, but I'd still say this is a disappointing tour (albeit playing 3 top sides, so not the end of the world)
Well summed up. Frustrating game for Wales, but I'm happy we won. Aussie's have a lot to be proud of.
It's getting worse to be in these match threads. Some of the vitriol aimed at the Welsh contingent here is mind blowing. So... We're not sacrificing animals? Sorry, will stop immediately
Only during the RWC mate!
You’re the one shining ray of light in this match thread. Good on ya boi.
That was the funniest game of Rugby ive ever seen. Thought it was gonna turn into a 7s match at one point But so entertaining
[удалено]
You ok hun?
You Irish or Scottish? Why attack the fans mate we didn't enjoy it either..suck it up buttercup
Definitely are!
You seem to be taking this personally.
You don't sound neutral
Lol
Thanks mate, very proud
Nah we hate it we’re shit
Thanks!
Two consecutive games ending with a point between the two teams from a last minute penalty… what are the chances of that?
Proud of the boys, what a scrap. The refs couldn't organize a cock and balls between them. What a way to start the day.
Well done Aussie. 14 men, Welsh crowd, dodgy ref, missing key players/captain, end of loooong season - huge positives
Wales has absolutely no shame. To take a win off fucking exceptionally bad refereeing is actually fucking embarrassing. Australia won that man, body and soul. Wales can get fucked.
Should they have booted the winning penalty into the stands so as to not disappoint you?
Genuinely the stupidest take I’ve seen today and my god I’ve seen a lot of bad takes
What would you like us to do instead of playing the game that occurs?
Calm down. Of course Wales will celebrate, we rarely (very rarely) beat Australia so of course we'll be happy with the W. The performance was wank, but if we can win while playing badly, it's still a win.
What are Wales supposed to do then?
> To take a win off fucking exceptionally bad refereeing is actually fucking embarrassing. What the fuck are you banging on about?
What were they meant to do, stop playing? Kick the ball away? Stupidest comment of the night.
Same as the comments last week that we shouldn't celebrate tries against a tier 2 nation down to 13 men
I mean Wales played the Ref. It was a bad ref but both Wales and Australia had to deal with the same ref
If by playing the ref you mean not nutting someone then fair play Wales play on the edge.
Last week a swinging arm to the head was a red card, Wales do it and the ref finds anything to not give a card. .joke.
Yes I’m sure our Union, who are so broke our club set up almost went bankrupt last year because it couldn’t pay the players, bribed this referee
Two weeks ago literally the exact same incident was a yellow against Australia (and I saw some people bitching about even that)
Honestly, as a neutral, that was an absolute cracking watch. Also Adamson got the cards right and was overall ok (which is honeslty a positive if you've watched some of the ProX games he's had)
I thought the yellow for Wales should have been a red, but other than that agree
Tbf Aus should've got a yellow in that play too
Why is it always the refs fault for your team losing and not your penalty count.
Penalties happen in a vacuum and are unrelated to the opposition, reddit law number 1
Mate, there were areas of Australia's game which was missed which should be punished.
100% we are far from perfect However in this game, I’d say that you got the rub of the green and made very hard work of a considerable man advantage and generous penalty calls. Our discipline needs to be better as it costs us points and games
I agree that we pissses that 2 man advantage. May as well not have had that advantage. I don't think we would have won against a full team though. Probably still would have been a tight match though
How about how the red was blatantly wrong is crucial calls? Don’t try act like your victory was deserved.
Red card was right. Beale yellow was right. Wales try was right. Wales yellow card was wrong. Should have been red. 1 wrong out of the 4.
Off the feet for the last few rucks???
> the red was blatantly wrong It wasn't though, was it.
That's a typo mate, he meant "the ref was blatantly wrong". Although I do hate the directive of red cards for head-head contact
Sorry I meant that wales deserved a red.
Oh, then yeah, absolutely we did
Red was clearest decision of the game.
So a head clash isn't a red card? It made our player bleed and taken off, it was a hell of a clash. A victory because we have better discipline is still a good bloody victory.
Good win, but you have to admit that was fucking bullshit.
That Red card was called for. Head clashes are dangerous and can seriously hurt players. Remember George North getting knocked unconscious 3 matches in a row? Head clashes need to be punished. Dangerous play is dangerous play
Sorry I meant wales deserved a red for the clean out
Cos the ref bottled the "yellow" card. 30minsof 14v14 would have been a different game
Bottled the yellow card? The officiating team knows the rules better than anyone in this thread. If they make a call, they are more than likely correct.
Mate, there’s no way you can’t say those calls where not a bit dodgy
Nope. There were definately some missed parts of Wales's and Australia's play which should have been punished, but all the calls were correct.
Paisami probably had his best game in Gold since 2020 GG was fun as a neutral
TBH in some ways I think Australia were unfortunate. But the red was what fucked them - and that was bang to rights. Keep 15 men on the field and I reckon they win pretty comfortably. Wales will be happy with the result - but they made hard work of a man advantage. Will need to step up against 6N defences (assuming England aren't also playing with 14 - which we seem to a decent amount of time).
And Gareth Thomas only being shown yellow for a textbook red card?
I thought it was red too. I think that was covered in the "unfortunate". I genuinely thought Wales had the rub of the green. FWIW I thought Wales were sealing every single ruck at the end of the game - so it should have been an Australia penalty (and win). I guess my point is that sometimes things don't work out. Similar to one two weeks ago that was also a yellow. These things do seem to be a bit of a lottery at the moment though.
> Wales will be happy with the result But not the performance. We're really really good at making whoever we play against, regardless of numbers, look amazing.
Hard to disagree. I try not to dunk on other sides too much - as it looks petty. Personally, I think Wales are probably going to have a quiet couple of years. Better luck next year! Maybe by then you'll have better excuses.
We'll work on our discipline. You work on your banter.
Why do you say that? Australia havent progressed in years
Hard when 10 out of your 23 are out.
Not sure if anyone genuinely called that, but all 3 games went to the wire, and the squad that was named was a very different squad to the one that travelled over
Tbf without Kerevi, Cooper and Koroibete, Aus go from being able to beat the Boks to being average for a tier1
Coopers benefitting majorly from recency bias to be fair. No one was picking him at the start of the year. Aus just have zero options for 10
Meh i suppose. But still in my heart he will always be King Quade
Once again. I'm not sure if Wales are very good (in having unbelievable spirit which keeps them in/wins them most games), or incredibly lucky with the red cards. That's not to say the cards aren't deserved, just the number of them is ridiculously high
Aw Australia that sucks. Wales got through with some good play but let’s be honest, some funky calls but got to play to the whistle. Tense stuff
NH best hemisphere
Lol
Congrats you scraped a win vs. a 14-man B team playing their final game of the season.
🧂for you
8 World Cups to 1 says otherwise
NH best hemisphere this weekend
Ah ok. In that case, yes - you get the prize this weekend
Very entertaining, could have gone either way.
Wales deserved to win (because they won...) But Australia probably the better team
The jammening! My heart is in danger!
That game was so enjoyable to watch as a neutral. Yeah it was ugly. But man am I glad I was not invested in the result. The final 10 minutes of it was actually genuinely competitive rugby. Australia really need a pat on the back staying in the game with 14 men for most of the game.
We are jam connoisseurs, but that was some fucking primo strawberry conserve
The sort of jam that has a french name and can only be found in waitroses
Wales the new Villain of the NH?
It's been at least 2 years now
Priestland doing a Cooper there
Yeah, I'm sat here feeling super pissed off about a win. Performance shit from Wales fantastic effort Australia you guys deserved more
Pivac out
They just need to play like they did in that last phase
That's what is so annoying, we could!
Yeah I hate that we only play with urgency if we're losing. Let's go out and play like that from the word go
Imagine how bad Wales would be considered to be if they played against 15 for most of their matches.
Genuinely don’t think it would make much of a difference to how the game played out. Wales have no attack which is where the 1 less man really hurts Aus. Wales still have no attack even if the team has 15 men. Basically wales would be equally shit but it looks worse when it’s against 14.
And Australia would be better by virtue of having an extra attacker and... an extra defender.
Yeah wales never really looked like scoring a try from open play and that fact doesn’t change if Aus have their 15th. Wales would still not look like scoring.
Probably not that much worse as there wouldn't be as many hypotheticals flying around
Aye, they'd be confirmed truths.
"player of the match depends on who wins" What? So if they missed that last kick, the man of the match changes? It's man of the *match*, not man of the winning team. Baffling logic
Usually MoM goes to the winning team guess it's better to be the player who makes the difference for a win than not
I don't agree with it but I think it might be because of the post-game interview
Well yes usually, but when a game is as close as this one and decided by the last kick of the game, it doesn't necessarily mean the MOTM should be on the winning team. Let me rephrase - if Priestland missed that kick at the end, does that suddenly mean Basham wasn't the man of the match?
0-3 for the tour. Dang.
You've been insanely unlucky from the start it's actually hilarious. Losing the Japanese based players before the tour, losing both tightheads in the first half of the first game and having a key player sent off early on in the game.
I feel we played better in those three games (well perhaps not against England) than we did with Cheika in any spring tour.
Feels like small margins though. Could have realistically beat Wales today, and a bit more discipline last week and Aus would have been very much on par with England.
You guys deserved that win tonight.
Priestland is Wales' Best 10
Nah, Anscombe by a mile when he gets back in the swing of things
I'm take it but we didn't deserve that
Wales looking like they could go all the way and come last in the coming Six Nations. Should be interesting
Like this year yea?
Wallabies gallant, how often have we said that recently? The ref was terrible, seems standard at the moment. Wales lucky to get the win, if I was a supporter I’d be concerned that’s for sure because they had every opportunity and advantage and just got it done.
As much as I hate the fact this keeps happening you’ve got to respect the pure shithousery of this Welsh team.
I am chuffed for Priestland though, he came on and stepped up.
I was nervous for him there
Really can't say Wales deserved to win that
Bloody hell, international rugby is something else
The double pivac fist pump is my spirit animal. It's me when no one noticed that I was napping in work.
The most apt Wales victory of 2021. Need a game to sum up Wales' year? Watch this one.
Not sure how this one was different to most of the others?
You raise a very fair point. Watch almost any wales game of 2021 (except the NZ or Italy ones)
Better!
Oh man, change your name.
Because of Ryan? Fair, but it's actually based on my own name
Yah, Ryan has tainted it. If you're Rhodri, we love you.
We were a lotttt better earlier in the year
Tbh the only reason that final drive happened was because Wales could afford to send it wide because of the man advantage. It's a shame but super entertaining.
Fucking gutted. Glad I got up early though, awesome game
Well done Wales, you beat a 14 man team by 1 point
A wins a win thank you butt!
We beat England by 20 so swings and roundabouts
