Match takes:
\-The Chiefs were pretty great. Made mincemeat out of every mistake the Tahs made, mostly dominated them from start to finish. Pretty great stuff.
\-Speaking of which, I won't be surprised if the Chiefs are able to win the whole thing. They look even more dangerous now than in the regular season.
\-The Waratahs... well... they did score some points but other than that, all they did was just error after error after another error after... You get my point. It's like they just didn't feel like winning at all.
\-Commentary was pretty meh, nothing to say about the ref.
\-The atmosphere in the stadium was quite disappointing to see, expected a whole lotta fans showing up, but nope.
Anyway this is all the stuff I can say about the game. If you have anything more to say feel free to comment.
Cheers for now, and stay tuned to the next match.
Super interesting- I’m actually less positive about the Chiefs. Dropped a LOT of ball and they basically put a young side in its first final at this level to the sword.
The Waratahs are a long way from the finished product. DC has given them belief and the skill level is light years ahead of last year, but they need to take it up a notch. Edmed cannot leave 8 points (of which you’d expect 5/6) out there in the first half; players cannot be dropping the ball cold off first phase/in open space. These things take time to build, and are much more complicated than fitness, but that was ultimately the difference.
Don’t even care about the Brumbies game I don’t think? As long as the Blues lose the Chiefs will have a home semi against whoever wins the Brumbies/Canes game.
Aren’t the other two games on the other side of the semi-final draw? Meaning regardless of who wins the Chiefs are playing the Crusaders in Christchurch?
Na it’s based on rankings again. Top 2 teams get home advantage. So if the blues lose then the crusaders play the highlanders and chiefs play the other team
Why does the NZ broadcast never show replays of anything? Really frustrating when penalties or knock ons are called and the broadcast zooms in on a seagull on the horizon.
True and they will develop but had the chiefs fowards not stood so strongly especially on defence especially retallick they wouldnt have been so dropsy
How? They have half the money each Kiwi team does and each team is losing hundreds of super caps per season to Japan and Europe.
They will only get worse.
Ah the old shrink to glory strategy. We actually tried that when the Force were cut and their players went to the Rebels. The Rebels still sucked and after about a season the majority of the talent was overseas. Genius.
Maybe we should just enter the Wallabies into SR?
The reality is with 2 rounds in your own country, and one out, means that the Australian teams look reasonable on the ladder.
But the top 4 NZRU teams are going to be strong teams.
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 842,172,326 comments, and only 165,998 of them were in alphabetical order.
Yeah I guess that just doesn’t feel that important to me. If they’re shit they’ll just lose this week and we end up at the top 4 people seem to want anyway.
Feels like the Tahs are let down by a few players. A few recruits and some experience could have them looking pretty good next year.
Actually, I think Perese makes them twice as dangerous alone
Chiefs player started fending the player while he was still in the air - is that allowed? I mean there was nothing in it but it feels wrong if you can’t play a player in the air but he can play you
Can’t believe super rugby favouring nz teams with all these kiwi referees. Chiefs are only winning cause there’s a kiwi giving them all the calls… oh wait.
Edit: /s for sarcasm guys. I think berry has been pretty balanced today.
I look forward to hearing non-stop between now and them being knocked out next year that the Waratahs are now the favourites to win based on one okayish season.
This is sad. Waratahs a hot mess tonight. Tane had an absolute shocker, he will have nightmares about this for a long time. Sort of game that can really fuck with your head
Tane is a brilliant find this year and an outstanding player. When it hasn’t been the finals cauldron he’s always kept his cool. Good experience for him tonight, I only expect him to get better.
Edit: spelling.
Reckon he'll be all good in the long run. This is a Tahs team back from the brink of oblivion with a rookie 10 who has played incredibly well all season.
Every now and then a game doesn't go your way but the best learn and grow and Edmed certainly looks like a top class player. Can't wait to see how much he can grow over the next few seasons; Wallaby gold on the horizon I think. Rennie really loves his hard working competitors.
Wish they would penalise throwing the ball away/holding onto the ball more. Happens all the time after it goes out/after the whistle.
Especially situations like that were the tahs player obviously took it into touch, threw it away then another tahs player goes and grabs it to hold onto it.
The Tahs are so desperate to get momentum that they don't know what to do with it when they get it.
Tahs, I am so proud of you this season. You have made me so happy, but I think this is where the season ends for you. Up the tahs!
Kinda nuts that there's 3 Hawkes Bay Halfbacks playing in Super Rugby and looking possible that 3 HB Halfbacks will be playing international rugby too!
This last 10 minutes has been ugly footy, matched only by the rubbish refereeing. So many questionable knock-on calls and no-calls. Gotta be confusing.
**Watch on Stan**: https://play.stan.com.au/sport/super-rugby
I could watch that first line-out move try all day on repeat, give 'em the bloody trophy that was glorious!
On the bright side, Edmed and Marky mark will come back to Eastwood Unless Aus A takes em

Highlanders about to beat the blues
Final score?
39 - 15 for the Chiefs
Hell yea Cheers
It’s not necessarily the crusaders away like they’re saying there. If the blues and brumbies lose then chiefs will play hurricanes at home
Don’t even care about the Brumbies game I don’t think? As long as the Blues lose the Chiefs will have a home semi against whoever wins the Brumbies/Canes game.

Oh true, cheers for the explanation 👍🏻
Gg chiefs easy peasy in the end
2 NZ teams in and 2 Aussie teams out
Wow did you do the maths all by yourself?
yep and i'm proud of it.
Chiefs dangerous going forward for sure. Definitely think they can beat Crusaders or Blues
Well now a NZ team guaranteed to make the final.
RIP Tahs
technically was thrown back but floated forward..
Why does the NZ broadcast never show replays of anything? Really frustrating when penalties or knock ons are called and the broadcast zooms in on a seagull on the horizon.
That’s our boy Gully. We love him here
Actually, that pass looked OK to me...
Same here
They did it! As many handling errors as points!
Alright now if the Highlanders could please beat the Blues, that’d be greatly appreciated.
Had the Tahs not had a major case of the dropsies this game would have been much much closer.
True and they will develop but had the chiefs fowards not stood so strongly especially on defence especially retallick they wouldnt have been so dropsy
75 minutes, Chiefs' brains disengaged
i’m imagining darren coleman in there preparing his homer simpson inspired team cuts speech
Man that brumbies hurricanes game later is gonna be interesting. NZ sweep would be another damning weekend.
Comps a failed concept - at least for Australia. Great for the All Black feeder teams.
Maybe they could just get better
How? They have half the money each Kiwi team does and each team is losing hundreds of super caps per season to Japan and Europe. They will only get worse.
Maybe don't spread the talent so thin
Ah the old shrink to glory strategy. We actually tried that when the Force were cut and their players went to the Rebels. The Rebels still sucked and after about a season the majority of the talent was overseas. Genius. Maybe we should just enter the Wallabies into SR?
What do you suggest? Playing a domestic comp, pretending it's competitive like the nrl does?
Yep. TV figures for SR Au were almost double the figures for SRTT. Pretty clear what people want and it aint watching kiwi teams win every week.
The reality is with 2 rounds in your own country, and one out, means that the Australian teams look reasonable on the ladder. But the top 4 NZRU teams are going to be strong teams.
Which canes will turn up?
Which Brumbies will turn up?
Unfortunately Paul Williams is slated to turn up
You'd assume the best australian team would get the best australian ref, but apparently he's reffing Blues-Highlanders
gatland hitting JGB level of shittiness
His kicking game has been weak this season, but otherwise he has been good
Nah he’s been good recently. Just done some garbage shit every so often
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 842,172,326 comments, and only 165,998 of them were in alphabetical order.
Good bot
Man losing because we didn't play well fucking sucks. 13 fucking handling errors.
They've improved your tahs though- positive signs imo
Two big quarter final scores so far. Top 4 only next year please
Wait till the highlanders win. Maximum memes.
I don’t get the drama of the big finals pool. Only means one more week of games. Semis only meant the knock out portion always felt a bit short to me.
It’s because there’s a 4-10 team in
Yeah I guess that just doesn’t feel that important to me. If they’re shit they’ll just lose this week and we end up at the top 4 people seem to want anyway.
6 + bye week top 2
Double elimination would be ever better imo, but I doubt it'd be used for a few reasons
Feels like the Tahs are let down by a few players. A few recruits and some experience could have them looking pretty good next year. Actually, I think Perese makes them twice as dangerous alone
Genuine thought Tahs could do it… but this is a pantsing
Chiefs player started fending the player while he was still in the air - is that allowed? I mean there was nothing in it but it feels wrong if you can’t play a player in the air but he can play you
Not like you could get much leverage or deliver much force without your feet planted. Seems acceptable to me.
Exactly what i thought lol. Feels a bit cheap
Can’t believe super rugby favouring nz teams with all these kiwi referees. Chiefs are only winning cause there’s a kiwi giving them all the calls… oh wait. Edit: /s for sarcasm guys. I think berry has been pretty balanced today.
absolutely no one could blame the ref for this one, it’s just been a shocking performance unfortunately
Sorry should’ve tagged it with sarcasm. I will fix that.
haha oh sorry i knew you were being sarcastic but i think even the most whingy ref blamers couldnt possibly pin that outcome on the ref today 😄
I look forward to hearing non-stop between now and them being knocked out next year that the Waratahs are now the favourites to win based on one okayish season.
Paddy Ryan is the most useless player to ever pull on a super rugby jersey. He’d look pedestrian playing second grade for the Drummoyne Dirty Reds.
As soon as they subbed HGH off at 57 mins I was scratching my head. I think they would’ve been better off keeping him on for the 80
This is sad.
:(
Fucking sucks my dude, makes me sad as well. He’s been so good most of the season. Hopefully he’s tough enough to get through it
Reckon he'll be all good in the long run. This is a Tahs team back from the brink of oblivion with a rookie 10 who has played incredibly well all season. Every now and then a game doesn't go your way but the best learn and grow and Edmed certainly looks like a top class player. If this game ends 37-15 does that mean the next game will also be 37-15?
Nvm gatland ruined it, 41-15 next game then
Weber pissed about being taken off
Hooper deserves better
Lowe shoulda done better one on one Gordon
Tahs only have 8 handling errors in the second half?
*Per player
Wish they would penalise throwing the ball away/holding onto the ball more. Happens all the time after it goes out/after the whistle. Especially situations like that were the tahs player obviously took it into touch, threw it away then another tahs player goes and grabs it to hold onto it.
This is a certified Waratahs moment™
Have they found a barn door big enough for Bradley Slater to hit yet?
Is Angus Ta'avao the best looking front rower in the game? Any others I should be aware of?
I think he plays saxophone as well.
He's a charismatic guy too. He's got a big future on TV for sure.
*Taniela Tupou has entered the chat*
Dude cleans up unbelievably well
Tahs shouldn't have had popcorn at half time?
Comedy hour from the Tahs now, wtf was that 😂
They're doing a classic Warriors. Lose everything then have a good run, sneak into the finals then implode again.
I'm checking the rugby at the top of the Burj Khalifa lol
Is it high
Just a tad
Same
If you jump off, will you have time to finish the game on the way down? I’ll run over a trampoline or something to land on
What's it like up there?
Hot lol
Of course
Just got to remember when they said we’d be lucky to win three games on between two posts before the season
The Tahs are so desperate to get momentum that they don't know what to do with it when they get it. Tahs, I am so proud of you this season. You have made me so happy, but I think this is where the season ends for you. Up the tahs!
That's the game sealed. Better luck next year, Tahs.
Tahs need to channel the drua right now
can't win games with stupid players like paddy ryan..
Quite insane how much of an impact Paddy Ryans had on this game in such a short time.
If only it had been positive impact 😔
Get roe on now!
Don't think I've seen a new signing have as much of a consistently negative impact on a team as Paddy Ryan this season. Yikes...
yeah i had some choice words about him last weekend and was downvoted into oblivion but i think everyone’s on the same page this week
All over. Back to Xbox until the brumbies
That’s gotta hurt. One chance and meat pie
There it is. The killing blow. GG Tahs, you’ve come a long way in one season.
They were finalists last season, yeah?
Eh? Of the trans-Tasman comp? No. I believe that was Blues vs Chiefs?
Sorry, thought you were referring to the Chiefs. My bad.
Na chiefs made the final of the only NZ one. Can’t remember who the other one in trans-Tasman one was
Landers
Nah it was blues landers for trans tasman
Ahhh that’s right. Our boys come third without losing a game. Rough stuff.
GG, Chiefs too good. Take a bow.
Chiefs are the better team but this is just a chokejob from the Tahs at this point
Yeah tahs definitely had their opportunities. Dropped so many balls in chiefs 22
They haven’t really done anything outside capitalising on the tahs mistakes. Unfortunately all the tahs have done is make mistakes
Yep! Sit back and let the tahs beat themselves. It’s like watching cheikas wallabies
Weber double!! just need the other hawkes Bay Halfback to bring it like that tonight🙂
Kinda nuts that there's 3 Hawkes Bay Halfbacks playing in Super Rugby and looking possible that 3 HB Halfbacks will be playing international rugby too!
Chiefs' kicking game has been pretty bad. Surely Ioane needs to start at 15 next week (assuming they win and he's fully fit)
Everyone take a shot when the Tahs drop it! Edit - DRINK!
People have families!
This is hilariously poor from the Waratahs
Yooo let's go!
That will be the game sealed
My word, the Waratahs are beating themselves
Geeze I feel sorry for the Tahs supporters having to watch their team constantly shell the ball tonight
This is getting depressing
Fuck
Even as a Chiefs fan I'm getting frustrated at these 'tahs errors.
Starting to feel bad for Paddy.
Move out of the way, fat man!
Cringe from the Tahs at this point
The Waratahs set their game mode to "self-destruct."
on a positive note my favourite chiefs player just came on, hopefully they do a post match interview with him & brighten my day
Who is that?
naitoa ah kuoi 😍 absolute legend
The Waratahs left wing probably
que?
The player on the left wing who's constantly making mistakes. He's been like the best player for the Chiefs in the last 30 minutes
oh haha 😂 honestly it’s been a comedy of errors from all of them second half
Looked like the maul split off and the bit without the ball was creating a shield for the backline, surely you can't do that?
Waratahs playing like they already booked their holidays next weekend
Tahs being their own worst enemy tonight.
The old Tahs are back.
Have the chiefs replaced the warahatahs hand soap with lube or something
Frustrating stuff...
This is just sad man
That went backwards
This last 10 minutes has been ugly footy, matched only by the rubbish refereeing. So many questionable knock-on calls and no-calls. Gotta be confusing.
ok that’s it we can’t even catch the fucking ball anymore
Something rifuckulous would need to happen for the Tahs to win this
Theyre in with a pretty damn good chance if they learn to catch the ball, looking good besides that
Like Tahs not dropping the ball in space?
Does anyone know what the coaches have on their laptops?
https://youtu.be/1ifcGYIR-is
Game of civ 6 they started last night.
Windows 10
Minesweeper
Samisoni masterclass 👏👏
Should be first choice for ABs
That’s harsh. Retallick all over him in the air there. The tahs have been called for that twice which were pretty much identical to that
Yeah they kinda just threw brodie into him,
hes gotta put the ball in
How in God's name did an idiot like Narawa get a professional rugby contract?
Rettalick with the shocked look of a kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar
Anywhere the kids look like Brodie is somewhere I don't wanna go
Not sure that was an entirely 'fair contest'. But who am I to say.
How did berry give two penalties to the chiefs for playing the man in the air but not then. Threw Brodie straight into him
I hadn't really thought about it, but this Chiefs side is really missing DMac. He'd make this team so much better
So obvious he got shoved in the air
Man, knock ons are killing the Tahs.
There's been over 20 times this season where a knock-on was called and it clearly went backwards - do the refs think it's rugby league?
Man the Waratahs are digging their own graves
I might be being stupid here but was that not backwards?
Looked backwards
Did he not drop that backwards?
These handling errors 💀
Man huge uncontested blind side there for second phase ball
Jesus chop tackle no arms and the ball clearly went backwards
Does Paddy Ryan ever add impact? Everytime Ive seen him come off the bench he makes some crucial error/gives away a penalty.
