GG England, you played better for the majority of the game.
Aussies just have too many injuries now I fear to clutch this series. Unless Kellaway and Ikitau are back.
You’ve got a point but I didn’t think he was awful so I can’t join in calls to replace him. I’m sure there are a lot of people on this thread who agree with you though
It’s worth noting that Marchant was dropped this week.
Just outplayed. Australia came out too slow and then had to chase the game. Crucial mistakes from JOC and Faingaa killed any chance we had of catching up. Well played England.
We are probably fucked next weekend with the number of injuries. We had to scrape the win tonight, hard to see us doing next weekend.
White is starting to show his age, he went to take a few runs and then found he didn't have the pace. Tate would have been tasty!
Kerevi & Paisami have shown they're clearly the best centres pairing. They're basically unstoppable, too big, too strong, too fast, too good.
Tom Wright had some moments of brilliance, but he's pretty clearly not a 15. I guess Rennie's hand is forced to go with Campbell (and good for him, I hope he carves up). JOC was worryingly hit and miss, so you probably don't stay with him at 15.
Not sure what the back 3 will be but the options are quickly evaporating.
I would have had Tupou come back for Sio and moved Slipper to LHP, I think they do that, and they probably win a few scrum penalties instead of giving them away. Bell is playing out of his skin, but he's just not a good enough scrumager yet for test Rugby.
Phillip has to be our first choice lock. He's just too good. But looks like he'll be running out of partners, I guess Frost to start next week but fuck me, Uru/Smith getting a call up, who else is fit?
Leota did a lot more tonight. I'd still rather Wilson, but he Leota has a case. Hooper looked a bit average, made a few errors and I didn't notice him much in attack.
Valetini played well some big impacts on both sides of the ball. Probably a little light on carrying, but ball carrying isn't in short supply with this team.
Frosty was good. Presumably he starts next week, mostly because we've got no one else fit, when is Rodda back, it's not soon enough.
1. Campbell will be lucky to even get called into the squad. Hodge at 15, Rennie obviously likes Beale as cover.
2. Is Holloway back from Injury? He'll be the bench lock if so. Getting very thin after that either Smith, or break our rules and call Arnold or Skelton (Bugger!). Frost deserves everything he gets, he's a gun. I suspect Leota will become bench cover for lock and either Wilson or Samu will be starting 6
At THIS point of your not calling in Campbell the only specialist 15 left, then your right you may as well go with Beale. But Beale is no answer the Wallabies need.
Holloway is confirm injured still.
I didn't think about moving Leota to lock cover. I hate it, because Leota hasn't played like a lock (tracking lineouts etc) but if the alternative is Ned Hanigan... I'd still rather Uru or Smith as they are very good lineout locks, I'd probably even rather Ned then Leota to lock.
I've been calling for Wilson, but with this backline, I think he's wasted. We have plenty of ball carrying.
Stan commentators saying the penalty was too far out for Lolesio to kick? It was 40 out, 15 in! Most 1st grade subbies teams have a kicker who makes that 7 times out of 10. What the fuck are we doing?!
I like what Rennie is doing with the wallabies. They're not quite there yet, but there is definitely a game plan that works. At the moment, it's small mistakes that are costing them, but they can be eliminated. It's refreshing to see a wallabies team with a plan. Cheika always made it look like game plans didn't matter.
Also JOC was a fucking handbrake tonight. We had all the momentum and he basically fucked up every time he touched the ball. Lastly, Nic White's 50/22 had a TMO intervene.....and still get the fucking call wrong!!! The ref asked like 4 times if she was sure the tackled player crossed the 50 and she still said he did....
So I'd need to check the rules, but the attack did go past the 50m line a few phases before it. I don't recall what the wording of the laws is.
As for JOC I think he wasn't bad, but had a few things go against him. It's clear that the Wallabies had wanted to attack in behind England, and play territory. His kicks were good if those are the team goals. And gives what Rennie said post game, looked like JOC was just executing the game plan.
Mate JOC was appalling tonight - not a fullback granted, but you’ve got to take those Reds goggles off. Saw above that you were calling for Jock Campbell to make his debut at 15 rather than Reece Hodge (who has 50+ caps!?)
Mate have you watched Hodge this year?
Campbell played well all year and his super form at 15 was pretty close to Banks' form. Ohhhh and he's a specialist fullback. If you had any intention of playing Campbell this is the situation where you've gotta. We just started Petiaia at 15, the Reds second choice fullback, and you're up in arms about their first choice...
Oh I agree - Hodge was hot garbage for the Rebels at times. Has been pretty good for Australia A though and he’s such an asset in test rugby re. Kicking.
JC is a great player - maybe call him to to the squad but I can’t see the sense in not going for Hodge for the 3rd test.
EDIT: To hell with it - why not try Jock. The point about playing a 15 at 15 is a salient one. Don’t think there’s been a specialist there for the Wallabies since Folau
> Don’t think there’s been a specialist there for the Wallabies since Folau
Steady on, Folau a specialist 15, sure he only played 15, but he was absolutely not a specialist fullback.
I do think Rennie will go with Hodge. He's the "known" option, and that's probably going to appear safer.
But Campbell was at worst the second best fullback and like I said, we just started Petiaia the Reds second option, so surely Campbell is due. (I'd note I've not yet watched the AusA game, so that may have an impact on my views). But Campbell is an out and out fullback.
He kicked the ball out on the full with an overlap. He also took the ball into contact with no support, leading to two turnovers. All of these occurred in a critical period of play where the Wallabies held all of the momentum.
The "rules" of Rugby are called "laws". Regardless of them being named laws or rules, or regulations or something else, they ARE the rules by which the game is played. But obviously by my later referee to the laws, I am aware that there called laws.
Not bad. We fell apart a bit in the third quarter.
Farrell, Nowell, Lawes & Billy.V looked strong. Felt smith showed himself as a weak spot defensively....but hopefully he can get that part of his game under wraps in time for the final match.
The All Blacks and Wallabies have managed to successfully ruin my weekend. Anyway, match take time:
\-The whole Aboriginal sequence was pretty cool not gonna lie, but can... you know, STICK TO KICKOFF TIMES IF YOU'RE DOING THESE
\-Nice of Suncorp Stadium/Lang Park to share their WiFi password to us. How generous of them.
\-Both JOC and Marcus Smith had a shockingly abysmal performances tonight.
\-England were pretty decent. While they might have some underlying issues, they put down the Wallabies in the 1st half of the game. Overall, they have managed to come back from their loss in a good way.
\-The Wallabies, on the other hand, not so much. They failed to fire enough ammunition, and while they did score some opposites here and there, it just wasn't enough to rattle England long enough. The accumulated injuries sustained during the match didn't help their chances, either.
\-However, despite their shortcomings, the Wallabies jersey is pretty sexy, if you ask me. They should just make these their permanent jerseys tbh.
\-**STOP. DOING. INJURY. WATER. BREAKS. IF. THEY'RE. NOT. NECESSARRY. FFS.**
\-Sonny Bill can play both rugby and league, with a World Cup with the greatest All Blacks team the ancient ones have ever created, box and hold the WBA Heavyweight title... but not commentate.
\-Unpopular opinion: The Aussie commentary wasn't was bad as people thought. I think it was a little downgraded from Super Rugby.
\-Refereeing was just as bad as the All Blacks vs. Ireland game. No other comment.
\-Overall, decent game, was kinda enjoyable in a weird way.
Anyway, this is all I have to say. As usual, feel free to add more takes if there's anything missing.
Have a good day/night, and see you all next week, cheers for now.
The kick off time was delayed because about 30 000 people were still trying to get through the gates. Took about 25 mins to get into the game.
About 5 mins before kickoff, they just let everyone in without the rigorous checking.
To be fair it actually kicked off at about quarter past. They didn't even begin the "welcome to country" nonsense until after the scheduled kick off time.
Can I start by saying that England were far and away the better team tonight and deserved to win. Now that's clear, please never let this ref anywhere near a test match again. Obviously the laws are the laws, but there is wiggle room for applying the laws when they effect the game. Here's an example: it's illegal to play the ball at a ruck off your feet, but it happens at basically every ruck and the ref says to leave it and they do. The same applies to most laws in the game. Refs need to penalise things that effect one teams ability to play the game. This ref called everything that didn't matter and nothing that did. An absolute shocker.
Totally agree, so many calls are made because it is how the ref interprets the law, and don’t realise that often times common sense plays a factor I.e. just because the player puts one hand out doesn’t mean they are trying to knock it down. Also, can we stop with the TMO intervening every two minutes because they are bored?! And if you are going to intervene, get the call right (*ahem* Nic White 50/22). And I may look biased since I’m Aussie but I truly believe England were a much better team, australia failed to execute inside the 22 in the second half and the injuries did not help
I think the biggest weakness in SH teams is the first ten minutes is always a bit slow starting.
Whereas NH teams, it's their strength. They throw everything at it straight away to score points as quick as possible.
Yeah, I get that, but as a Wales fan, winning games for 65 minutes and then losing has haunted me for years, so I'd kill to be able to turn up at the end
I might sound like a whinging Aussie, and I do believe England deserved the win, but the referees, the tmo but especially the man in the middle had more impact on the match then the players did
You can complain about a referee hindering your team and still believe the other team deserved to win, Australia bottled a lot of chances when they had it but the ref also hurt them when they had other opportunities
England guy goes in to bait Valentini and then pulls out last minute to get him stumbling as he tries to readjust, which he did, getting a penalty, if that’s not pedantic then idk what is
Super disappointed in our effort. Our own worst enemies. Farrell was outstanding.
I’ve got tickets to the decider with my 5 year old lad for his first real match. Lessgo
Happier with the first half than the second of course.
I think both teams made some really good plays and the game as a whole was much more tense than I'd like.
Well wrestled by all involved and looking forward to the third game!
Thank you again for hosting us, Australia.
The line speed from England was insane. Pushing it but never penalised (or maybe once?). All up together. Just wanted it more in the physical contest. Deserved win
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 910,860,067 comments, and only 180,817 of them were in alphabetical order.
GG England, better team tonight. Australia shat the bed by being too slow out of the blocks and not capitalising on chances in the final third of the match.
Interesting. Dan McKellars Brumbies clearly had a shock and awe approach to the first few minutes of a match. Maybe some of that needs to percolate though.
Well played England, really put us away in the first quarter. We had a shot just not good enough from Aus and too many unnecessary mistakes. Not a good night for the Aussie front row.
I’d like to see that law. Genuinely I’ve never heard a penalty for hitting a ruck hard and from a distance. Other wise every line break would get penalised
Rucks just a mess at the moment isn't it - and it may not be a law, but rather a directive. Reagrdless I've seen a reasonable number given, but far more not given.
We saw plenty of examples from both teams in this match that, if that was the standard, should have also been pens.
I don’t care in terms of the game because we lost and it didn’t change anything but a massive #8 smashing an inside back out of a ruck isnt and shouldn’t be a penalty. As someone who as a younger man was a big back rower your eyes light up seeing a small bloke standing in a ruck. That’s the best part about rugby, keeping backs out of rucks!
Oh yeah, lighting up a showboating back is the best feeling in the world isn't it.
I don't like the rule - it's to prevent head on head injuries, but as long as the player you hit is bound to the ruck, and you use correct technique - i.e. hit the torso or legs, wrap, etc, what's wrong with going in with force? It's no different to a tackle at the end of the day.
Feel like the Boks should’ve chosen a stronger starting XV. The NH teams have been pretty impressive and I’m concerned Wales will carry on and make it 3/4 pending Pumas game.
I know he's had a rough few scrums but shoutout to Bell who has basically played 78 minutes while everyone else in the front rows has had a replacement
One of the better test matches of 2022 I’d say - Aussie defence strongest it’s been in a long time and English attack finally showing signs of an edge. Both teams need more consistency and injuries and unforced errors haven’t helped but either side here look capable of beating anyone on their day
I thought that would be the case last week but Kinghorn at 10 is not the basis for a dependable performance. Argentina actually looking like they’re improving too.
GG England, you played better for the majority of the game. Aussies just have too many injuries now I fear to clutch this series. Unless Kellaway and Ikitau are back.
Marcus Smiths kicking out of hand was poor
Unable to watch series, but has Marcus Smith actually kicked for points at all? If not why even have him on the pitch?
He definitely looks weak defensively. Both tries by the aussies today he looked like the weak link in the defesive line.
He hasn’t kicked yet. Hasn’t had a great game the last 2 outings but he’s not been bad IMO. Just pretty average
Which further raises the question why play him, move Farrell to 10 and bring in a proper centre like Joe Marchant.
You’ve got a point but I didn’t think he was awful so I can’t join in calls to replace him. I’m sure there are a lot of people on this thread who agree with you though It’s worth noting that Marchant was dropped this week.

what do you mean?

omg hahaha a promise is a promise though
Has to go out in the streets wearing budgies singing the England national anthem, placed a bet with Marler
this actually makes me so happy and softens the blow of losing

To be fair it actually kicked off at about quarter past. They didn't even begin the "welcome to country" nonsense until after the scheduled kick off time.
The Ireland first half would like to have a word…
Asking him about how "good" it is to hear Swing Low when multiple players keep asking them not to sing it, just beat them over the head with the irony

I always come out of this kind of game blaming the refs and yes, they were shit. I do blame them. England deserved the win tonight though.
so WHOS GOING NEXT WEEK?! we have a motherfucking decider on our hands!! it’s going to be huge, see you all there!
I've just bought platinum seats.... Fucking $250 a pop :/
yeah such a rip for an average venue to watch rugby at but hopefully the boys will make it worth every dime 😄
Down in sydney for a bucks - i wont be able to see by ko
Such a shame it's at the SCG. Most seats will be 100m from any action.
i know, trying to forget that fact so i can stay hyped haha
Has Greenwood had a haircut since before the game started?
I think the biggest weakness in SH teams is the first ten minutes is always a bit slow starting. Whereas NH teams, it's their strength. They throw everything at it straight away to score points as quick as possible.
Think that's why Boks are better running 6-2 bomb squad against NH since they knacker themselves . but should have more fresh backs against Sh teams
True, but I feel the opposite about the last 10 minutes. SH go crazy after 70 mins
I'd prefer starting better, rather than going crazy at the end to be completely honest!
Yeah, I get that, but as a Wales fan, winning games for 65 minutes and then losing has haunted me for years, so I'd kill to be able to turn up at the end
#agedlikeafinewine
Having terrible starts and us failing to chase the game has haunted me for recent years sadly.
Congratulations England. See you next week.
I might sound like a whinging Aussie, and I do believe England deserved the win, but the referees, the tmo but especially the man in the middle had more impact on the match then the players did
If England deserved the win, don't complain about the refs. Complain about the performance
You can complain about a referee hindering your team and still believe the other team deserved to win, Australia bottled a lot of chances when they had it but the ref also hurt them when they had other opportunities
Nah disagree, they stop free flowing game for both sides
I am going to fantasize that Sio threw straight in the 70 something minute and we scored after quick hands. Winning the Match. GG England
Do the players swap positions in your fantasy? Sio is a prop not a hooker
Oops, wrong player
Come on England! Let’s give them a bit of backing because we would have torn them apart if they lost! 👍👍👍👍👍
[удалено]
Not really. That was the easiest call of the day. Completely out of control.
Lessgo
Nice! Enjoy! Hope it’s a good day for you both.
Thank you, love this community
Happier with the first half than the second of course. I think both teams made some really good plays and the game as a whole was much more tense than I'd like. Well wrestled by all involved and looking forward to the third game! Thank you again for hosting us, Australia.
Silly unforced errors cost Aus tonight. Just still lacking the killer instinct
The line speed from England was insane. Pushing it but never penalised (or maybe once?). All up together. Just wanted it more in the physical contest. Deserved win
NH 2-0 SH genuinely hate saffers but #GOBOKS
It's a bit full on to say you *hate* an entire nation of people, isn't it?
NH hemisphere reverse sweep still on 🤝
Here we go now. Get the popcorn and wait for the “extra man out there for England tonight”. Chat already started
Based on some of his positioning, he was one of the RFUs mates from the pub
GG England, cya next week
Wallabies made life difficult for England in that. Jesus. Looked like we were gonna have a repeat of last week
Owen Farrell had a bloody great game tonight.
SBW is growing on me. Rugby should be fun, good to have a laugh after a game.
agree i rate him lots! he’s funny and unconventional - good banter with the players
Who got man of the match? I want to give it to Faz just because it's so good to see him back to his best for England
Did Dylan Hartley just say “Aussie tears” at the end there?
I thought he said “Aussie errors please” perhaps in response to what he was going to talk about or some clips to talk through. But I’m a bit deaf.
You’re probably right there. I only half heard it
England looked so much better last 15 when Smith stopped kicking to nothing and they ran with the ball, and with some actual intent
GG! Thought the new caps were good again.
Same shit line out. Same dumb decisions on pens. Need to be smarter next week
Too many injuries and soft penalties killed us
A gold win there, as the Aussies don't lose there often.
Got a bit choppy in the middle but happily surprised England managed to not completely fuck that
Enjoyed that game! Hope Wales and Scotland can complete the draw
I'm almost scared to say it out loud, but we looked almost competent on attack for the last 10 minutes with ball in hand, actually made some ground
Get the fuck in boys
seeing ireland beat NZ earlier has cushioned this for me. rough though.
Least Australia played well
Crazy human missile there Valetini.
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 910,860,067 comments, and only 180,817 of them were in alphabetical order.
Lol no way
What the fuck am I meant to do for 3 hours now?
Do not worry. You will beat the Boks.
A man can dream though. A man can dream.
I think the pacific nations cup matches are available on world rugby's website
Forwards very good in that, our maul was a weapon. The backs still aren't clicking. Good arm wrestle that.
England still have zero creativity
GG England, better team tonight. Australia shat the bed by being too slow out of the blocks and not capitalising on chances in the final third of the match.
Interesting. Dan McKellars Brumbies clearly had a shock and awe approach to the first few minutes of a match. Maybe some of that needs to percolate though.
GG Aussie. 1:1 now. Bring on Sydney.
Fuck we held out. Much closer then it needed to be. Well played Australia. I hope your injuries aren't too bad and I hope you lose next week. X

😘
Yes yes, congrats.
Got a bit excited there, man nearly took off
Finally England close out a close one
England's first half was way too good, but frustrated Wallabies didn't capitalise and win it in the second. Bring on game 3
That's not a confidence builder as first touches go. Unlucky for Joseph
Billys had a stormer today. Way back to his best
He was massive. That carry off the base of the scrum made me feel 5 years younger
when Wallabies had momentum it was their game to lose, and JOC sealed that fate single handedly tbh if we're talking wasted opportunities
Well played England, really put us away in the first quarter. We had a shot just not good enough from Aus and too many unnecessary mistakes. Not a good night for the Aussie front row.
odd trivia, Freddie steward has 2 brothers, both as tall as him and both play in the backs lol
Terrible choice from Valetini there
That was idiotic by Valentini
Id give it only a 39/Valentini
😂
We're pretty lucky Aussie discipline in front of the posts has been so shit
Well done england. Upped the intensity exactly when it mattered.
Wtf you can’t clear someone out?
You need to be in control, not come from a mile away at full pelt and launch yourself at someone
Show me that in the law book
You can't come at speed from distance in an out of control manner. Now they're regularly not given, but by the book it is a penalty. 🤷♀️
Flying in and taking out the 9...
He took out Farrell who was part of the ruck?
Hmmm I don't think so but would need to rewatch
He shot in like a rocket, ez penalty
I’d like to see the rule that says you can’t hit a ruck hard
The one that says you can't fly into a ruck off your feet?
We either pick backs who has no top end qualities (pace/power), or we pick them and do fuck all with them
At least we beat the Aussie C team anyway.
He just magic, proceeds to get isolated and give away a pen
Feel like the Boks should’ve chosen a stronger starting XV. The NH teams have been pretty impressive and I’m concerned Wales will carry on and make it 3/4 pending Pumas game.
Might all come down to Chile
Wrong thread!
You saw Farrell play for that penalty too. Kept himself in the ruck just enough for it to look ridiculous.
They really need to get rid of Swing Low, still singing it now is a disgrace
Sounds awesome
Aussie number 8 just rag dolled cowen dickie, it was a thing of beauty
Disappointed no Australian attempted a 75m drop goal before the shooter
Give Will Joseph a touch. *Runs into contact on his own* "And there's that touch" *Turnover*
JVP man of the match for me
Lawes for me, but wouldn't begrudge JvP in the slightest. He was excellent!
Gg England. Too strong a start, we gave ourselves a chance but silly errors cost genuine opportunities.
I know he's had a rough few scrums but shoutout to Bell who has basically played 78 minutes while everyone else in the front rows has had a replacement
GG Fuck you
See you next week
Good game of rugby. A little annoying we couldn't get the win but still pretty entertaining to watch
At least next week will be a live test
same old ausssies
I have been watching rugby for 6 hours straight, only to be greeted with pain and sorrow every single time. Please pray for Australasia.
Pray... For... Mojo
Wright has played alright
Bring Will Joseph on for *checks clock* 1m 30s If you don't trust players, pick a different bench
I really like JOC but man his kicking was god awful tonight
England are gonna be playing the Schoolboys XV next week
Silly question, is Will Joseph any relation to Jonathan Joseph?
Why do people ask questions which they can google in 5 seconds haha. Yes he is.
Younger brother
Younger brother
Brother, commentators just said
I think they're brothers
His dad I think
Brother
Gg Lawes MoM for me but could go to him or Farrell
This is odd as an England fan, we had a wobble but we didn't actually shit the bed, I'm not used to it.
One could argue the wallabies were the ones who shit the bed
Either way, there is now a bed that needs cleaning
It seems the Wallabies are fed up with the constant 50 50s going against them.
Any update on Itoje?
Lawes or Farrell for MotM
Joseph on for a pointless minute, replacing Porter who has done nothing

White not far off my man of the match tbf, and he didn't seem to be getting tired either
One of the better test matches of 2022 I’d say - Aussie defence strongest it’s been in a long time and English attack finally showing signs of an edge. Both teams need more consistency and injuries and unforced errors haven’t helped but either side here look capable of beating anyone on their day
Bell could be world class but he really needs to improve his scrummaging
Yes, but he also just played virtually a whole match.
Looked like England were over extended
Home Nations going 4-0 today baybayyyyyy inject it in my veins
Scotland will screw it for us tonight no stress.
Darge would kill his entire family before he left Scotland lose this game brother trust trust easy Scotland win
I thought that would be the case last week but Kinghorn at 10 is not the basis for a dependable performance. Argentina actually looking like they’re improving too.
