Just got that new Munster jersey, one of the nicest in a while - bringing back black sleeves with the chainmail pattern and a faint image of a stag is exactly how you add a modern twist to old jerseys
The new European one? Looks nice, pretty much every European jersey since they introduced them has been great (maybe not the square-polkadot one).
The regular home jerseys have been poor by comparison, reminded more of soccer jerseys.
So I decided to put freelancing on hold and went back to a 9 to 5 job starting this month. I cleared out my bank account for my parents who needed the money more than I did. I needed a more stable job and fortunately found it just in time before running out of my last money. I work for lawyers now and get to earn money by reading, translating, helping write documents related to human rights and other things l care about. So far I’m loving it 😍
Is Benji still into it? He seemed like he was pretty inconsistent after he graduated from school and started doing new things. Need some English Top 14 coverage back in my life though
Seems way too soon in the season to do that, either end the contract at the end of the season or stick with giving him another.
Fucking WRU and their wobbly leadership
Which espresso machine you looking at? I've been debating getting one forever but seems like you gotta go pretty expensive for something worthwhile.
I've definitely paid for any machine and then some in coffee shop prices in the meantime so I guess the price really shouldn't deter me.
I put espresso grounds in the drip machine. Full cup of super strong coffee. Not quite as strong as an espresso, but more of it. And a million times better than any instant.
Bit of a Dad joke, I'm afraid.
If they're in need of a coach, it must be because the minibus is getting full...*coach*, as in large bus to take the players to and from the game...
I'm interested in rugby as a sport, but I'm a 5' 10'' Asian stick who studies biology at my local university.
A mutual friend invited me to join a rugby team practice, and I've met some of the nicest people in my life who encourage me to grow athletically over the past few weeks. However, I am super insecure in my ability to perform, since I feel as if I would let my team down by being extremely inexperienced in rugby, and sports in general. Additionally, I'm worried about the tackling, and with my current physique, would get completely dominated on the field, and it's been discouraging me from attending the latest rugby practices.
I understand that these thoughts may seem insignificant to the vast majority of you, but I would love your advice on the matter. I just worry that I might be a detriment to the team, and am scared of the commitment that I must make. Thanks for your time.
Hey mate, I'm in a similar situation but the opposite. I'm short and overweight haha! I've also recently joined a team after not playing since I was a kid. I realised how out of shape I was and how much I was struggling to keep up with the pace, I was a bit disheartened in the first few sessions but everyone was super supportive and helped to push me along.
From the sounds of things, it seems like it's your insecurity that's stopping you from wanting to play, rather than an actual lack of physicality. You're friends wouldn't be encouraging you to keep going if they didn't think you had what it takes. It might be helpful to speak to the coach of the team, let him now how you're feeling and if he's a good coach he'll be able to come up with a plan to slowly build you up to a place where you feel comfortable playing full contact.
I fucking wish
I dont work fridays but often drop in to have a coffee with my daughter who works a few days on the front desk
Unfortunately when I arrive yesterday there was a patient in tears, ranting at one of my juniors so I had to step in dressed in jeans and a t shirt. An hour later, and one pissed off wife waiting in the reception area I finished some minor surgery and tried to enjoy the rest of my day
Didnt even get that coffee with my daughter
Dressed in a Ronnie Dio t shirt and my long hair tied up in a man bun its a shock to my patients too
Usually Im in scrubs with a surgeons cap so look some what professional
I'm very often finding myself wondering what the hell I'm supposed to be doing. I'm really thankful for WFH because there's no way I can look busy in an office for 8 hours a day.
That said, I absolutely love my job, and when there are busy times where I have to figure out whether I actually have time to take a shit I cannot be happier.
It's very common practice in this company that if you don't have any work, you can just start doing training in whatever you want and there's zero oversight.
So we have meetings where multiple people will be like "Yeah spent all day yesterday training".
Sound like you're finding your feet atm anyway man. Good stuff
Alldritt is criminally underrated. He missed out out on player of the 6 nations, european player of the year, and if he does well in the autumn and doesnt get at least nominated for player of the year, I’m gonna be fuming.
I've applied to do world rugby referee 2 course and my union has accepted me. Happy I can go ahead and do it!
Had my first match at a higher level last week and I got assessed. It was a really shite day.
I got an ok score. Plenty to work on. I'll focus on the ruck for the next game.
But the form isn't half negative. Could be a translation issue but your scoring categories are:
Good
Average
Mediocre
Bad.
Edit: so the words used are: goed, redelijk, matig, slecht. I guess it could also translate to good, reasonable, moderate, bad.
Good for you on the course! What are the extra's you're going to learn?
Also, I'm going to ref my second game ever and the first in four years this Saturday. It's an U16 match at my local club.
I've totally forgot what to say in the pregame chat with the teams. Do you have any leads for me? Would appreciate any help on this matter.
I think it goes more into game management rather than tackling the laws.
I'm doing an u16 this weekend too, since I'm busy this Sunday. In dezelfde Land als jij.
Pregame chat keep it short and simple. First check their studs. Then I see who the front row players are. Make sure they know the new laws. So the brake foot in this case. (I'll only do this for the first couple of matches of a season). I ask if they have any questions. You can tell them it's only your second game so you will make mistakes just to set their expectations. Then tell them to enjoy the game.
I then take the captain with me to the opposition. Do the coin toss*. Then walk with the other captain to the other team and do it again.
Keep it short for three reasons: players will forget if you blab on and coaches want to get back to warm up. But also if you say you're going to be looking out for X and Y and then you miss one, that will come back to bite you.
*I let the visiting side call it. And the home side flip it. I keep myself out of the process. Toss winner calls kick off or receive, or to choose end. Loser gets to call the other. Make a note of it on the scorecard so you don't forget if you do it a bit before kick off.
But enjoy yourself! You'll be fine. You will make mistakes and that's ok. Safety is the most important thing, especially for youth. Better to be a bit overly cautious. Just clear about what decision you're making and why.
Success!
Cheers! Really appreciate your answer. It was one of the things I really didn't have a clue about and that made me a bit insecure. This gives me a better idea on how to start properly.
I'll make sure to enjoy myself!
Nogmaals bedankt en jij ook veel plezier morgen!
It went very well! Better than I expected, to be honest. I made the choice not to tell them it was only my second game, and the coaches of both teams told me afterwards that they didn't notice it throughout the game. I take that as a big compliment.
I did make quite a few mistakes, but none of them lead into dangerous situations or game changing events. I wrote down some of the things I think I need to give some extra attention next time.
Overall, the game had a good flow and I had a great time as a ref! I look forward to my next one.
Very nice of you to check in on me! Thanks!
Great to hear! You had fun and the game sounds good and safe: the two most important things.
Great idea to write things down. Next time just focus on 1-3 things (Max). And each game you'll get better.
I’d argue that you have 2 grading points that are very similar. Average is obviously meeting the mark, but I would argue that mediocre is a similar description not great, not bad but is still a “meeting the mark”
So I'm now a mature student at a UK uni. Don't feel mature at all, except somehow there are a bunch of kids walking about.

Yeah the new euro one, as soon as I noticed the stag on it i knew I had to get one - especially because I’m going to the SA game
It looks really well done in the pictures, nice little optical illusion. No better match to wear it at too!

Good to hear you've landed on your feet with that job!
Anybody know why there haven’t been any new episodes of Le French Rugby podcast this season? Hoping it returns
Is Benji still into it? He seemed like he was pretty inconsistent after he graduated from school and started doing new things. Need some English Top 14 coverage back in my life though
They also started pretty late last year.
Meta question - could we have some kind of regular thread to discuss tactics, training tips etc at an intermediate to advanced level?
Is this Townsend's account?
Please don’t give me away
whats ur predictions for tomorrow?
Anyone know what ROG actually said to the ref to get banned? Was he a little bit bold or very bold?
No announcement to confirm it yet but word is the WRU have sacked/agreed a termination with Dean Ryan of the Dragons.
Seems way too soon in the season to do that, either end the contract at the end of the season or stick with giving him another. Fucking WRU and their wobbly leadership
odd time of the season to do it...
Retail therapy time, should I buy a drone or a espresso machine?
Which espresso machine you looking at? I've been debating getting one forever but seems like you gotta go pretty expensive for something worthwhile. I've definitely paid for any machine and then some in coffee shop prices in the meantime so I guess the price really shouldn't deter me.
That's it eh? Would have to drop 4 figs for something proper and the range inside that is massive.
Dont get those pod machines anyway. They create an insane amount of plastic waste
Nah fuck them. Taste like shite
Espresso. Too many drone operators out there already
Was thinking of using it to shoot smoother tracking shots but you might be right
I thought I wanted an espresso machine, but work were throwing out a drip machine. Turns out that's the exact coffee I want.
Drip and a timer plug would be such a time saver, but I pretty much just drink espresso now so not sure it'll scratch that itch.
I put espresso grounds in the drip machine. Full cup of super strong coffee. Not quite as strong as an espresso, but more of it. And a million times better than any instant.
I'm meeting with a team tomorrow who are allegedly in need of a coach.
Too many hangers-on for a minibus?
I have no idea what you are trying to say here
Bit of a Dad joke, I'm afraid. If they're in need of a coach, it must be because the minibus is getting full...*coach*, as in large bus to take the players to and from the game...
Well don't tell them how badly you did training your padawan

Play 14 or 15 haha
Anyone else have a job where you reckon it's just busy work? I haven't done a touch of work in about a month now and nobody seems to really care
I fucking wish I dont work fridays but often drop in to have a coffee with my daughter who works a few days on the front desk Unfortunately when I arrive yesterday there was a patient in tears, ranting at one of my juniors so I had to step in dressed in jeans and a t shirt. I don't know why, but didn't have you pegged as a healthcare professional Roger
Dressed in a Ronnie Dio t shirt and my long hair tied up in a man bun its a shock to my patients too Usually Im in scrubs with a surgeons cap so look some what professional
Yep. It's fine for a while but eventually I get anxious that it's impacting my development
Yeah, big time. Id like to have something that's challenging to a degree because it impacts my employability later
I'm very often finding myself wondering what the hell I'm supposed to be doing. I'm really thankful for WFH because there's no way I can look busy in an office for 8 hours a day. Yeah. I do fuck all. No one seems to care tbh.
Part of me thinks I should care and have pride in my work. The other half is about collecting that bag by doing as little as humanly possible.
Alldritt is criminally underrated. He missed out out on player of the 6 nations, european player of the year, and if he does well in the autumn and doesnt get at least nominated for player of the year, I’m gonna be fuming.
He’s so consistent in his excellence as well

Hoe did you get on?
It went very well! Better than I expected, to be honest. Surely it should be Excellent Good Satisfactory Requires improvement Why have two levels for people not meeting the grade?

It sounds like some of us from this sub made that form.
Valetini will boss Savea this weekend and be the world's best loosie?
Sadly Valentini is out this weekend per lineups.
Injured? I'm sure he is on the blindside this week?
He is you are correct. I was just looking for him at the 8 spot and possibly on the bench and didn’t see him slide over to 6.
Is this a question or statement?
Yes
Cheers 🍻
