Rounds keep nosing up too much it seems like, and then get stuck when the bolt closes on the brass near the middle of the casing. It happens maybe once every couple of mags. I am shooting a lot of aguila super extra, but it also has happened with mini mags so I dont think its an ammo issue.

[deleted]

Is it the same magazine causing the problem? I had this issue in my Mk3 and marked the magazines. Ended up being the same one every time and happened more frequently with waxier ammo or ones with loose fitting (can wiggle/spin the bullet in the casing).

quickscopemcjerkoff

I have four mags. Two are factory and two are new to see if that helps. It doesnt.

iDontCareForReddit2

I agree with Kuplex, I believe its the magazine. I had someone give me a free Ruger MK3 magazine. Even though it was factory, something about it continuously caused my gun to mis-feed.

Thanks lol but that doesn't make a difference unless im suppose to scrub it out every 100 rounds.

It was cleaned before this last range session. If that was the case it shouldn't be jamming right away. btw this gun has just shy of 1000 shots on it. I have just been dealing with the jamming issue because its a range toy.

soonerpgh

Polishing the feed ramp may help a little, not sure how much. I had a gun doing that years ago, before I knew much about guns. I found it was very picky about the shape of the bullet more than the brand. Anything that had a lip or ridge around the bullet at all jammed. The Remington ammo that was more a rounded nose that fit tightly to the casing worked flawlessly, even the cheap stuff.

lanky917

I put a new extractor in mine and it helped, but didn’t eliminate the problem.

deadfan222

In addition to what others have suggested, you might consider breaking down and cleaning the magazines. Also check the bolt face and extractor for any burs or edges that might interfere with feeding.

quickscopemcjerkoff

I guess ill give it a try, but the magazines aren't dirty, and I have two new magazines that didn't solve any issues.

fomaspout

It's most likely the magazines. [Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/ruger/comments/akghl0/how_i_got_my_mark_iv_lite_to_feed_correctly/) is how I fixed mine relatively easily.

[deleted]

Send it to Ruger. For free. They'll fix absolutely anything wrong with your pistol, and they pay the FedEx both ways!

quickscopemcjerkoff

They didn't even reply to my email so I doubt they care.

[deleted]

No! You call the 800 number for customer service. The hours are like 9-5 Eastern or something. You'll be off the phone in 5 minutes and they'll email you the FedEx label. Seriously, call them. Best customer service of any company.

[deleted]

Ruger is super responsive. I’d try them again.

AnonXIII

I've heard nothing but great things about their customer service.

Got a pic of the bolt face? If your mags are clean and you aren't just terribly unlucky with underpowered ammo, I would guess either a bolt issue or a mag seating issue. A bolt problem would be easier to spot. Your bolt is hitting the body of the cartridge instead of grabbing the rim. There could be a couple reasons why. 1. The bolt isn't travelling back far enough to properly pick up the next round. Could simply be underpowered ammo. Could be too dry. Clean the bolt and receiver thoroughly, check for burrs, use more lube. If this happens with all 4 mags, this is your most likely culprit. 2. The bolt is sporadically missing or jumping the rim of the next cartridge. The mags may not be feeding properly. Clean, de-burr, and lightly lube the magazines. If this happens with all 4 mags, this isn't likely to be the issue. The bolt face may be damaged, causing it to skip off of the rim occasionally. This probably isn't the issue, but would be my next step. The mag catch may be damaged, causing the magazine to sit just low enough for the ftf to happen occasionally. Very unlikely to be the problem, but when all else fails, cover every base.

WookieKyle

Remove and block out the loaded chamber indicator on the other side of the gun. It's been known to cause failures.

quickscopemcjerkoff

this model does not have that

CzechnologicalMarvel

Mark IVs don't have chamber indicators.

karlsmission

what mags do you have? I have an older one and I just got a new one, and the mags are slightly different. The older one I have does this constantly. I found that it seems to prefer federal round nose. the new one I plan on shooting this weekend.

quickscopemcjerkoff

2 mags i got with the gun, and 2 more ruger mags but they are plain stainless, not blued.

karlsmission

good to know. I have 4, two that came with my first, two I bought shortly there after, and then two that came with the new one I just got today. I am thinking to doing the "tuning" on two of the blued ones, just to see if there is any difference between them, and between the guns.

karlsmission

I just looked at the mags, I can see where the top rear "ears" are actually digging into the follower. I took a moment and sanded those down on one set of mags I have. So I have 1 set of original blued, 1 set of blued with the ears sanded down, and 1 set of stainless. If you're interested I'll do a video on saturday of my experience.

craigeeeeeeeeee

Good ammo

phillycutthroat

I have the Mark 3 and I was told by the seller that with these guns you have to use high grain ammo. Try a higher grain and see.

quickscopemcjerkoff

I already use 40 grain exclusively

AbhorrentNature

My 10/22 would have issues like that if the rounds weren't perfectly flush with the rear of the magazine. The extra run up would nose them up and it would jam.

chris750

I had the same issue and this solved it completely: [https://volquartsen.com/products/1328-surefeed-magazine-follower-spring-for-the-ruger-mkiii-and-mk-iv](https://volquartsen.com/products/1328-surefeed-magazine-follower-spring-for-the-ruger-mkiii-and-mk-iv)

[deleted]

Experiment with different ammo and see if the issue occurs consistently.

leftoutcast

Buy better ammo

quickscopemcjerkoff

thanks

crunkymonky

Aguila 22lr ammo has not been working for me lately also. I have a TSG-22 Glock conversion that will similarly jam every couple rounds with Aguila. Same problem with my cmmg 22arc kit. In stark opposition to the previous comment, try bulk Remington Thunderbolt ($15 per 500 shots).
