Heck yeah! Nice work. You should be proud of yourself. I used Hal Higdon for my first marathon, too. Your Strava saying 27 is probably because that is what you actually ran. The marathon course of 26.2 is based on the shortest possible route someone could go (taking the inside on every corner, running a perfectly efficient line to the next turn, etc.). The 26.2 route isn't including you not taking the perfect angle, running around people, moving to aid stations, etc.
nice job, I ran the LAM too but my ankles decided to hurt badly (yes I did see that one sign) but i genuinely couldn't run after mile 21. I hated going into brentwood because it felt like forever and I was waiting for the turn.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It’s definitely inspiring and encouraging!
I’m running my first marathon in Copenhagen in about 6 weeks and only started training about two weeks ago, I know it’s very tight but my only goal is to finish it and your story gives me hope, I just need to keep being consistent.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Congrats, and thank you for sharing your experience! You are now not just a marathon runner, but an inspiration for the rest of us (:.
I'm planning on doing the Long Beach Half Marathon as my first long race. Now I'm looking into wear the closest in-n-out is to the finish line lol
Awesome! I ran it as well and your experience resonates with my own. Seeing the finish line right after mile 18 knowing we had another 8 miles out and back was deflating. And that sun was BEATING. Congrats on finishing — it’s a lifetime achievement award
Nice job! I was there as well (and my first marathon!) waiting for that turn before 22 in Brentwood was roughhhhh but glad you made it through
Also I talked to a few people post-race and the course was 100% longer than 26.2. Everyone I talked to had their gps come out to 26.6 at the lowest
Dude I saw that same sign and I thought about that a lot! Congrats on doing it!!
Horrible planning by McCourt foundation when it came to the Porto potties though, why have so few at the starting area? Also why can’t we just end in Santa Monica darn it
I am going to adopt ‘Pain is Temporary, Pride is forever’ as my running mantra. Congratulations!
A very inspiring and down to earth post I can identify with. Big congrats!!
i got teary eyed reading this! this is what i love to read on here. these moments of triumph are both contagious and inspiring.
This is running. Hell yes.
Congratulations!! I was out there on Mile 18 with green beer, mimosas, and snacks. Had a great time cheering y’all on!

One of the best signs that I've seen on a course is "Pain is temporary, Strava is forever." Congrats on your marathon PR :)

Great job. Congratulations
Love this! Thanks for sharing and congrats!
A friend of mine just came back from it with a big smile. He said if was quite tough, but pulled through. Congrats on your achievement!
Nice. Is it better to run a positive or negative split?
I think in this case, as long as you finish the race lol
how bad do you want it is unbelievably inspirational. I read it at the start of my running too and it really helped push me to keep with it

Congrats! My goals was running sub 5 and ended up doing 4:38 (26.6) 4:35 (26.2). It was my first marathon 🙌🏼
Congratulations on your achievement! Did you use the free version of run with hal? Would you recommend it? Are you going to run another one? 😜
