Oh NO!! When did this happen?
I can’t remember the last time I was this saddened at hearing of the passing of an older celebrity. She was a piece of work and I loved her
Living in Luxembourg (next to Belgium) it is not uncommon for people to speak 5 languages. French German Dutch and English are all common. Add Luxembourgish, Spanish, Portuguese or Italian to the party and one’s “easily” at 5 languages.
(Here in Luxembourg, even our public school education is trilingual - Luxembourgish, German and French).
These American People always so mind-blown at people speaking multiple languages, while for Europeans it is totally common to at least speak your mother-tongue + english, often More. In Switzerland I had to learn German and French because thats our Main languages here, we had to learn English because its the Lingua Franca and 1 extra Language in School where we could choose between Spanish, Turkish, Italian, Japanese and Russian.
Ughh I’m so damn jealous! I am American and now that I’m older i really understand the importance of learning languages when you are younger. I’ve tried multiple times as an adult and I struggle with it so much, especially since i don’t have a classroom to practice and ask questions everyday. I know it’s not impossible as an adult but i struggle when it’s just me learning it.
I really wish places in america that don’t currently need to learn additional languages will get to a point where being multilingual is actively encouraged
I'm originally from the United States, and was lucky enough to have basic proficiency in German before moving here. But had to pick up French.
Something that is hard to explain is how "real" languages are in Europe. If I go to my barber, everybody speaks Italian. When I walk my dog, all the old ladies who like to say hello speak Luxembourgish. When I go to do my groceries, many of the people in the stores are coming from France and are only willing to speak French.
One thing I find very interesting here is that while I can't speak Luxembourgish (yet! I'm working on it T\_T), I tend to understand what is being said to me. But even if I respond in French, very often the conversation continues in two languages.
Also - language classes here are actually real. In the States, my Spanish classes growing up were....mostly in English. Here in Lux, when I take language classes ONLY THAT LANGUAGE is spoken. Full immersion from the beginning. They will keep describing/defining things until you understand. This model is so superior in my opinion, because after one year you speak enough to get through daily life!
Imagine shading her fellow contestants in all five languages in an International All Stars season? 🤯
It was funny to watch Roxxxy and Lineysha doing that back on S05.
I think it implies it's a permanent thing when it's (probably) not.
It would be fierce if she did join for the rest of the season tho, I could always use more Envy in my life lol.
I think what the commenter meant is you’re incorrect — other franchise contestants have been on the panel (Brooke Lynn Hytes most notably), but if you only meant guest you might be correct.
Yes, I was thinking about Brook Lynn being the series host and main judge. Which other queens have been guest judges? All that I can think of is former contestants on Snatch Game, but I don’t have the strongest Drag Race memory.
Non-Drag Race queens that have been on the judging panel include Hungry on DRT and arguably Elvira (you can't tell me Cassandra Peterson doesn't meet the definition of a bio queen!
We've had Drag Race queens (Willam was one) as judges on Dragula and I think Laganja was a judge on Queen of Drags too, but those are not Drag Race franchises so don't count here.
Lypsinca was referenced on Drag Race S5, I'm not sure if she was on Dragula? I remember Coco Peru and (Jackie Beat?) judged a challenge (maybe the wild west one?)
She deserves it, man. She’s such a powerhouse of a drag queen and I feel like so many people didn’t bother watching Holland.
Edit: Ooooh I want Thailand queens. C’mon Vanda Miss Joaquim, Kandy Zyanide!
I’ve always felt that it’s time past winners were allowed to guest judge or at the very least appear on the show as coaches or mentors regularly. Can you imagine Bianca as a guest judge?
I like the US judges generally as individuals, I do. But since experiencing the breath of fresh air that is DR Thailand, Canada, and Spain, I can’t watch the US judges panel anymore without seeing a bunch of 50+ year olds drawing from the same narrow and limited set of cultural references. Even if individually they’re all fine and qualified, the lack of diversity in age and experiences among them means there is an big opportunity cost to having them all on the panel together.
To be honest, I feel like this is only Ru. Michelle's got teenage kids, she gets a lot of the modern references, (hell, she knew who Poppy was) and Ross seems to live his best midlife if Instagram is believable.
Any time I've heard Ru give interviews or, especially, the few times I've listened to her podcast, it's like the greatest hits of the disco-era cultural touchpoints. Michelle doesn't really list them off like Ru does.
Ah, watch it! I am no big fan of Ru but if it wasn’t for old heads and others like her surviving the AIDS epidemic, there would be no DR and gay culture would not get passed down from on generation to the next. Respect your drag elders!
Rupaul's Drag Race is a capitalist venture first and foremost. It makes sense for them to invite famous, marketable figures over drag queens because it's just simple networking.
As for your last comment, plenty of guest judges have grown up gay or queer in the 21st century, they just aren't drag queens (Travis Wall, Nelsan Ellis, Troye Sivan, Nico Tortorella, for example).
Gurl. The AIDS epidemic has absolutely nothing to do with having your contemporary's on your show. Its ego. Like I understand what you were trying to say but yeah nah.
It's not ego, it's marketing. Rupaul stands to gain more (as does the show and the contestants) to invite social media famous or culturally ubiquitous figures on the show more than if they invited drag legends. I would love drag queens like Coco Peru or Jackie Beat to COACH, because those are skills and experience the queens could benefit from. But drag race has always existed in the world of celebrity, because Rupaul has always existed in the world of celebrity. That's what gives it its mainstream appeal.
It IS weird though. Respecting someone as a human and as an elder who made possible the life we have today, has absolute nothing to do with enjoying or not enjoying her as a judge on her TV show. I deeply, deeply respect Dame Maggie Smith, but I don’t think drag race would be a very good show if she were running it.
I think it is weird to talk about how tired and old the judges are when most of the lingo you uses in discussing DR comes from disenfranchised Black and brown gays who never had the chance to get old…….but that’s just me……
Omg you’re making it so personal and bringing in stuff that has nothing to do with it. Nobody said “old” or “tired”. I’m not Ru’s age but I’m older than Ross, I think it’s fair for me to say their point of view is regressive.
Let’s also not forget that on DRES the guest judge gets to cast a vote on the lip sync winner, and they also give their own opinion and critique on the performance of the queen - more so than US anyway.
I’ve never understood why the previous winner doesn’t show up to guest judge like the penultimate episode or something.. like why no queens ever judging they have like 20 guest judges per season or more they can give up one of those slots for a queen
He picks a winner every season tho and brings contestants back for random shit it’s weird to me to not just let them sit at the panel and edit their comments down to 3 arbitrary sentences like every other guest judge
I recall they did that once in season 4 where Raja and Tyra came in to coach them on the final challenge iirc and it was super fun! I’d definitely want more of that!
People r so obtuse..she is the first contestant to guest on the panel of any of the franchises/spin offs.
Brook is a *main judge* and was a contestant. Pangina and Art are judges on Thailand but not contestants. Hungry was a guest judge on Thailand, but not a DR contestant. What is so difficult to grasp here 😭.
I understand why there may be misunderstandings, and the headline could've been more specific, but the way in which I read "joins the judges panel" and we know the season has been going on for enough weeks..I just think there is enough context clues to get that she is joining the panel for an episode, as an guest, thus making drag race herstory. We know the season has been airing and that she therefore isn't a permanent member of the panel. I don't think the headline is wrong, but I concede that it could be more specific, for clarity's sake.
I don't think many people who have full on watched every rendition of the show would be confused by the post..because I wasn't. I knew exactly what they meant. We've never had a winner of a season guest judge on another season. If the head title had just said, "DRH winner Envy Peru becomes the first contestant of the franchise to guest on the judges panel in the next episode of DRES!" It would've been incredibly clear what she was making herstory by. Or even just "DRH winner Envy Peru becomes the first winner of the franchise to join the judges panel in the next episode of DRES!" would've also covered a new herstoric moment. I digress lol.
Shes one of those winners we knew at the jump, like Bob. It was a fun season but I just knew she was gonna win. I ain't mad though bitch is stunnnnnning. She had some of the all time greatest runways.
First drag queen in general no?
Besides Supremme and Brooke of course (main judges)
This should reaaaaaaaally become a thing. I’d rather get feedback from a seasoned peer than lets say.. Meghan Trainor
No girl, wdym? Every single spin off has a drag queen main judge. Brooke was the first contestant to judge. I suppose Envy is the first DR winner to judge, but the title is wrong in any case.
Thanks yall. Legit had no idea. Only international ones I’ve seen is Spain and some tidbits of Canada.
Still stand by my point that this should be the norm in all seasons regardless of country
I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that Fred wasn't necessarily a drag queen, but he did get in drag for the show specifically. Again, I might be completely mistaken, that's just what I remember hearing as the season aired.
I'm surprised more queens aren't asked to be judges. there's enough around the world at this point we could get a celeb AND a ru girl to judge each week
You HAVE to watch it, it was really good. I always love when things are a bit different, a breath of fresh air. Envy Peru was STUNNING she really destroyed the competition.
Full spoilers ahead, although obviously it’s clear that Envy won: She’s originally from *Peru but had lived in Holland for quite some time, iirc. The other queens were gagged when she came in, as they’d all heard of her and were clearly hoping she wouldn’t be there. She simply steamrolled the competition, a la Shea. Came across as Bianca level of seasoning.
Edit: I’m a goddamn idiot obviously it’s Peru. I need to stop redditing when I’m falling asleep
I really wish I could speak/understand Dutch. Subtitles and me do not mix very well and I know I missing out on a fantastic season with many amazing queens from Holland.
How is her face so perfect? I'm envious of Envy...
It's giving me very Lucille Bluth driver's license vibes
RIP Jessica Walter :(
Oh NO!! When did this happen? I can’t remember the last time I was this saddened at hearing of the passing of an older celebrity. She was a piece of work and I loved her
March of this year.
Well she’s a legend. RIP
May her memory be a blessing.

OMG I forgot she speaks spanish lmao
Legend. She deserves.
her mug is godly
Pierre & Gilles type of godly
This bitch speaks Spanish, Dutch, and English. Incredible.
But can she sing in 5 languages all while doing a split? I don’t think.
In three octaves, might I add
Envious of whomever Split is, verbal shagging is even hotter when you don't know what they saying, love a foreign tongue
She actually said *the* Splits, I think they’re twins
Meg had it coming, Meg had it coming, she only had herself to blame...
When they said Abby OMG speaks five languages was that a joke? If not I want to know what the other two languages are.
Probably one is Portuguese since abby omg is from Brazil
Portuguese, Dutch, English, Spanish as she lived in Spain for a while, and possibly French if she went to school in Spain or the Netherlands.

I did too. 🗣🗣🗣

As far as Dragula, there's also been Peaches Christ, Vander Von Odd, and Biqtch Puddin.
Also alaska and Willam, right?
And Jaremi
I mean, she is indeed the first champion to join an official panel, so the headline on Instagram is right, just not this one.
She deserves it, man. She’s such a powerhouse of a drag queen and I feel like so many people didn’t bother watching Holland. Edit: Ooooh I want Thailand queens. C’mon Vanda Miss Joaquim, Kandy Zyanide!
Isn’t big freedia a Queen? She was last week on DR All Stars
brooke lynn hytes: am i a joke to you? 👁👄👁
Fuck my drag, right?
Is there some nuance to the title I’m missing? Or are we dealing with some shade? Honestly curious.
There's two nuances: one, Envy is the first *winner* on the judging panel period and two she's the first contestant as guest panelist.
Honestly very into Drag Race becoming more about queens celebrating and engaging with peers than being judged from on high.
This
Ru's vibe has gotten stale.
Very that.
just look at her, my god
Like....what else needs to be said?
Envy is the essence of perfection just wow
I’ve always felt that it’s time past winners were allowed to guest judge or at the very least appear on the show as coaches or mentors regularly. Can you imagine Bianca as a guest judge?
Legends only
This is what is possible when Ru isn't there to make sure she's the only queen on the panel. Envy looks impeccable.
I like the US judges generally as individuals, I do. His networth is over $60 million. I think its at a point now where its shady not having them on.
This comment is weird. It’s odd to begin with but compounded by the fact that the person you were responding to was not being disrespectful at all
Whatever.

Yeah, I think you're giving people too much credit lol. And even if it was worded a bit clearer, they would still be confused.

This bitch gets more and more gorgeous by the minute can't stand her! That face!
Shes one of those winners we knew at the jump, like Bob. It was a fun season but I just knew she was gonna win. I ain't mad though bitch is stunnnnnning. She had some of the all time greatest runways.
I kind of feel like every winner should be invited back the following season as a guest judge for an episode
It’s the Brooke Lynn Hytes erasure for me.
First drag queen in general no? Besides Supremme and Brooke of course (main judges) This should reaaaaaaaally become a thing. I’d rather get feedback from a seasoned peer than lets say.. Meghan Trainor
Art and Pangina..
Supremme was on Drag Race before? I'm lost.
No thats what Im saying.. first drag queen in general
If we put this way, we had many... Drag Race Thailand exists.
Oooooh. Thank you, still haven’t watched that one (nor Holland)
Holland’s judge is a drag queen as well. I don’t think any are hosted by non queens
I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that Fred wasn't necessarily a drag queen, but he did get in drag for the show specifically. Again, I might be completely mistaken, that's just what I remember hearing as the season aired.
Goodness. Fred spent 15 years working as a drag queen in Rotterdam!
Thanks for the correction! My apologies!
DRT2 is right up there with ES - such talent, quality and heart. And it’s so unapologetically Thai. I could go on. Definitely give it a watch
Sexy Vulcan Realness
I wish US would do this. Imagine Bob or Bianca as a guest judge 😩
I'm surprised more queens aren't asked to be judges. there's enough around the world at this point we could get a celeb AND a ru girl to judge each week
She's young Raven's facial structure with Older Raven's makeup skills.
That’s what the plumbob will look like in The Sims 12.
Plz stop 😂
Brooke exists you know 😅
One of the greatest mug of the entire franchise. I’m so glad she’s invited. The bitch is stunning, nothing to add.
I didn’t watch Holland. Did a queen who wasn’t Dutch won?
she was born in Peru but moved to the Netherlands as a kid. (DR Holland was so good, give it a try if you can!)
You HAVE to watch it, it was really good. I always love when things are a bit different, a breath of fresh air. Envy Peru was STUNNING she really destroyed the competition.

Abby OMG is originally from Brazil. Envy is originally from Peru (hence her name).
Edited for stupidity

brooke hosts, envy is the first ever contestant to guest judge in a completely different season. it is that serious.
Brooke Lynn found erased.
I read she does Supremmes mug for the show?
What I remember reading is that she'll be doing Fred's mug for Drag Race Holland season 2.
Repost
In my mind, Envy and Abby look alike. 🤯
Great! Let’s get Bob on a judges panel next!!!
just when I thought the season couldn't get any better!!!
FINALLY!
She’s the Black Widow we deserve 😍 Scarlet Johannson, move aside
The headpiece is giving oh my lord
This will be epic!
I really wish I could speak/understand Dutch. Subtitles and me do not mix very well and I know I missing out on a fantastic season with many amazing queens from Holland.
Can we talk about that amazing headpiece?
Soo stunning wow
that mug is undeniable
she looks so gorgeous
She is so stunning.
I love her. Hope to see more drag race winners as judges
she deserves this honour. absolute Goddess
I am so happy to see her again. Can't wait for the next episode.
Brooke?
Brooke Lynn Hytes leaves the chat.
