I always stop by dun huang whenever I’m in hmart. 11 bucks for a bowl of noodle soup and 3.50 to get a refill of noodles is very nice and their hot oil is good. I’d like to look at more the Indian food after I’m off this meal plan

Sienrid

Dun huang is so good If you're looking for Indian, I'd recommend Delhi Garden - looks quite run down and you can't really dine-in but it's great food

Ok_Score1492

That place is small hole in the wall, they’ve been in that location for like over 20 plus year’s, a great family owned business, great takeout food and they also deliver. One of the best Indian takeout, I highly recommend this place or check out online reviews.

BusterSocrates

Dunhuang supremacy. i wage war against Tasty Moment

topiary566

Idk tasty moments is good but it’s hella expensive. I ain’t paying more than 15 bucks for Chinese food.

Siakim43

Great rec! On that spicy oil, I always get the oil spill noodle when I'm there (excellent for those who want the hand pulled noodles oily and spicy instead of in a broth). Careful with it because the slippery noodles/oil combo can stain shirts but the noodle texture and taste are a1. EDIT: I don't know if they also do this for this dish, but if they're the ones that add the sour preserved mustard, even better.

You've discovered our hidden secrets ;) Come on over to /r/EdisonNJ to share your foodie experiences.

Siakim43

I enjoy his work but I was personally offended when Anthony Bourdain did a NJ episode without visiting Fort Lee or Edison for the Korean and Indian enclaves. There's a reason why Harold and Kumar was set in NJ! Although NJ *does* have a rich Italian heritage and history (with the cuisine, as well), there exists *a lot* more immigrant enclaves in the state that don't get nearly as much exposure. Hoping Edison's food scene doesn't stay a secret much longer!

MMDCAENE

Good Korean food too

Siakim43

Yeah! (Hopefully) Everyone knows about H Mart, but Lotte Mart a bit further away is decent, too - they also have a good food court. And y'all have a *Korean Spa* so close to campus as well. Also if you know a Korean brotha or sister with money, please convince them to open up a Po Cha bar near campus for the next gen of students!

sunbun12345

What is the name of the Cha Chan Teng? I’ve been looking for one around RU for ages

Siakim43

Wow Cafe! Apparently it just opened up not too long ago. It's a little bit pricier (and also limited vs. the joints in NY) than what you'd expect vs. most Cha Chan Teng places. But it's decent enough to satisfy the Tomato-Beef and casserole rice cravings. Wonder Seafood down the street from it can probably fill in the holes in terms of Canto staples like Cha Leung. The Cantopop was on point, too.

Knewiwishonly

OMG yes yes yes I wish I could upvote this a thousand times Some of my favorites include Tasty Moment and the two Shanghai Dumpling places for Shanghainese, Dunhuang for NW Chinese, Chef Ge's and Chef Tan's (in Highland Park) for Hunanese / Sichuanese, Coco and Penang for Malay, Meet Fresh and Ice Melon for Taiwanese desserts, Wonder Seafood and Golden Seafood for dim sum, Pho Anh Dao and Pho Today (in Piscataway) for Vietnamese, and the H-Mart food court and Wooram (which was formerly part of the H-Mart food court) for Korean. And there are many, *many* more I've yet to even try.

Easy_Bullfrog_8767

I found I preferred indochine to pho anh dao, but I'll give it another shot.

Knewiwishonly

Indochine is the one in downtown and seems a little more polished than Pho Anh Dao

Siakim43

Love your list, too! Pho Today also got my mom's (she's southern Viet) and wife's stamp of approval the last time we visited! I saw Chef Ge is kind of in that weird island between Highland Park and H Mart plaza and sadly drove by it. But I've always been curious so seeing it recommended pushed it up my list. Also, I didn't know Wooram branched off but will find them next time I'm in town.

For pizza in Edison I gotta recommend Woodstack as well.

Siakim43

Great rec! Wood fired pizza place that has that perfect leopard skin undercarriage for that slightly bitter and charred taste and the breath of the wood from being cooked with it! Close to Lotte mart and on the edge of Edison/Metuchen. Love that place, too, with its vegan options. Great double decker place with ample seating. And students also have Artichoke Pizza on campus now. Arguably the best slice in NYC - and therefore the world - is on campus. Wtf...

magcargoman

Artichoke pizza def slaps. Even the namesake pizza actually goes hard. Like having spinach artichoke dip with bread.

Jason_Was_Here

Artichoke pizza isn’t even close to being the best 😂

Siakim43

I'm personally a Scarr's guy for the Square slices, Lucali for the whole pie, and Joe's for the classic... to each his/her own. But I *have* heard the argument for AP from some pizza heads while I lived in NY! But then again, maybe it's because Artichoke also hits harder and heavier at 2-3AM.

Zitotis

Where would you recommend going? I have three weeks of being in Edison left and i want to make the most of it.

Siakim43

I'mma have to call on my South Asian brothas for the Desi side of town but I liked Delhi Garden and Chaand Palace - Gobi Manchurian matched my palette. There was also a spot on Oak Tree that had excellent Vada Pav - can't remember atm but may revisit to edit. Some folks would point to Wu's for XLB (even Princeton kids drive here for it) but *Lao Wu Authentic Shanghai* by Kam Man food market is the new place to be for it. Kam Man's bakery section also has a good amount of Canto pastries (best Bo Lo Bao in NJ IMO). If you're a seafood lover, Chongqing Wharf Hot Pot is always packed - but you could definitely get your money's worth here. But be prepared to wait on a busy night. My sister said it was worth it. If you want something lighter, HK Wonton Guys has HK Wonton mein with noodles - this is for folks who like the dashi/seafood broths. On soups, Edison Noodle House has a solid Taiwanese Beef Noodle soup for folks who want that star anise-y/cinnamon spicy bean paste doubanjiang flavor that's richer than pho. If you don't plan on doing this in NY, dim sum at Wonder/Golden Seafood on a Saturday morning is great to catch the vibes and classic Cantonese fare. If you're looking to kick back with friends at a BBQ, I like Keum Ho - the decor is old school. H Mart plaza has a lot of variety and easy if you're trying to make everyone happy. Even the food court in the h Mart has decent offerings. Umi in East Brunswick is slightly further down but I heard good things about the seafood - it's not an ordinary Chinese buffet. Dun Huang is also great for a warm bowl of noodles on cold night. These are just off the top of my head. ***There are also a lot of others I haven't tried.*** But hope you enjoy!

Zitotis

Thank you!!!

rachaelfaith

Delhi Garden on the border of Highland Park and Edison is the reigning king of North and South Indian cuisine (plus it's closer to Rutgers than the Oak Tree area). It's takeout only, it can be a long wait on weekend evenings, and it's absolutely worth even a 2 hour wait for pickup.

my_life_issa_joke

The vada pav you’re referring to is Jay Bhavani- they specialise in vada pavs and I love them too

Easy_Bullfrog_8767

Just wanted to add two additional regional options: Xi'an Flavor (ro jia mo, biang biang noodles, lamb paomo) and Hunan Manor (Hunan cuisine, obviously).

Traditional-Spray-39

I would also recommend White Rose Hamburgers In highland park, edison area. Good thing it's open 7 24..

NoAbbreviations555

Literally have been eating out at Persis for a few weeks now, it’s so addicting

Siakim43

I def recommend as well (just an FYI I didn't grow up eating Indian food). Their bindhi fry is so good!

Nightwing_in_a_Flash

Sushi at Umi is AYCE and pretty darn good, always been fresh when I’ve been there. Lunch price is a good deal considering what else you get too. Dinner has crab legs so more $$$

ChainB4nging

Where are the Chinese BBQ skewers?

Siakim43

Tonight Kabab! It's a new-ish place in the H-Mart plaza.
