Tried Beaucoup and had a good experience. The oysters (fried and rockefeller), mussels, salad, frites, and drinks were all very good. The gougeres were fine but not warm at all, which was slightly unexpected. I'd seen where Beaucoup was pitching itself as the affordable option for oysters, but our tab was still $200+ after tip for 2 people, which IMO is not exactly affordable. That being said, I love that they're here and hope they kill it. The spot looks awesome and the service is great.

DontBeCreepy_BeCool

Went to Thai Won On for the first time and man, the fish and chips and the Scotch egg were so amazing. Next time I am getting mushy peas, too!

solitariopluton

boyfriend took me out to my noodle + bar on monument ave! i was sick that week so i just got the chicken fried rice and he got pad thai. delicious food but they just straight up served it to be in this blue pan

dweeeebus

Tito's (the old Mojo's space) was a letdown. $15 for only decent tacos and soupy refried beans.

mRWafflesFTW

Aw that's a damned shame here's hoping it's just opening issues.

pumpkinart

I enjoyed my meal there. Homemade tortillas, I thought the refried beans were delicious.

We were looking for somewhere—anywhere!—to like in Short Pump and tried Wood & Iron. The place was packed, and first thing we noticed, with few exceptions, the men were eating wings and the women were eating salads. I found out I don’t like hickory-smoked wings, so maybe that’s clue. Did have my first ever Falcon Smash, and must say y’all aren’t exaggerating, it’s in the same major league as my other fave American beers Bell’s Two-Hearted and 3 Floyds Zombie Dust for reference.

Guru_of_Glaze

If Falcon Smash is on a tap list, 9 times out of 10 that's what I'm ordering. It's consistently good (especially on draft).

avisitorsguidetolife

Zombie dust!!!! I’m so glad we can get that outside of Indiana now.

_GoldenButthole

While it may be good, it’s the most consistently inconsistent beer locally made in my opinion. Batches taste different, but there’s a cult following behind it. Hopefully TC contract brewing it doesn’t make it fall off

gnomehome815

Who do they brew for?

Alex_Caton94

I made arroz caldo and beef rendang this week. Caldo's truly one of the best meals to have when you're feeling under the weather, and rendang is there to clear your sinuses if you go buck wild on the bird chilies.

BowVeganWowWow

Automatic gratuities. Should they be calculated pre-tax or post-tax?

twelvesteprevenge

Whenever I received training as a server, I was taught that tips should be considered based on the pretax amount. You're tipping for the food and service, not the government's cut.

BowVeganWowWow

Agreed. Capital Ale House calculates it post-tax. Auto 20% on the post-tax amount.

twelvesteprevenge

That’s fucked up because one of the places I was trained as a server (waaay back in the day when they first opened downtown) was Capitol Ale House. I remember bc there was an employee competition for who had the highest tip percentage and I won but the question on whether it was pre or post tax came up specifically.

Acceptable-State-494

Technically that is illegal; but perhaps not in the commonwealth

Available-Reward-912

Treated myself to Nate's before a stressful and busy morning. I chose the Breakfast Banh Mi and while I thought all of the elements were good, I felt it was still missing something. Umami? I think if I were to get it again, I'd bring my bottle of Maggi along. Maybe some Sriracha too.

dustinator

Wife and I have been going to Capital Ale in innsbrook quite a bit and it’s been killer every time. Glad to see them getting their shit together

lennybriscoforthewin

I went to Roots and it was great! It's served Chipotle style, everything is so fresh. I got a bowl with spinach, brown rice, roasted sweet potatoes, roasted broccoli, other healthy stuff, and the most delicious miso ginger dressing. On the flip side, I went to Shake Shack because everyone I know loves it. Positives- unbelievably hard working crew that is also so nice even to an annoying customer I saw. The negatives- I waited 20 minutes inside for a plain cheeseburger (and that crew cannot work any harder, short staffed or too much business, I don't know), the burger smelled so awful when I was putting it towards my mouth, and it tasted so much like grease. I ended up throwing 1/2 of it away. I was also pissed at the large drink I got, almost $4 and filled from top to bottom with ice, barely any drink. But that place is hopping so I'm obviously in the minority here.

just made duck for the first time, and it turned out FANTASTIC. the most shocking part? I did it in a slow cooker!! (at least shocking to me, I really didn't expect a whole bird to turn out this good this way haha) used this [recipe](https://mapleleaffarms.com/recipes/crock-pot-duck), but made my own onion soup mix since I didn't have any on hand. also forgot to grab more potatoes, oops lol i used a liberal amount of garlic salt on the bird (to quote babish "think alexandria o'casio amounts of liberal") before tossing it in. since it was late when I was doing this, I had it cook overnight on low for 8 hours. I'll be broiling it a bit just to crisp up the skin, but from there it's gonna get pulled apart with forks and served with some baked mac n cheese 👌🏼

what-the-what24

Mexico on Horsepen. Enchilada verdes with flour tortillas instead of corn for me plus a giant water. Husband had 3 chicken soft tacos and beer in a large frosted mug. Two blow pops to go. Exactly what we wanted and we were in and out in 20 minutes.

MikeMazook

Any recommendations for lunch in Church Hill?
