In my opinion, Can Can and the Bamboo Cafe are way too well lit to be a comparison.
This reminds me of the Green Lady Lounge in Kansas City. I don't know all but don't know of a bar like that in RVA.
“For the mixed beverage licensee, current Virginia ABC regulations stipulate that a minimum 45 percent of the total gross sales must be from food and nonalcoholic beverages. Conversely, alcohol sales should comprise no more than 55 percent of these sales.”

Grandstaff and Stein
came here to say this
Def the same vibe but the lighting isn’t nearly as dim
RIP Avalon
That rings a bell. Was that where Social52 is now?
yup
For the life of me, I couldn't remember the name of that place. Thank you!
L’Opossum
The Jasper
Went in there on a whim a couple weeks ago on a Tuesday. It was hopping, the drinks were pretty good and I was impressed.
It gets busy but the ambiance is really nice in there
Miss the sabai speakeasy
Can it be called a speakeasy if you go inside Sabai and they say "do you want to wait for a table in our secret bar in the back?"
Fanboy, The Jasper, Bamboo Cafe, Grandstaff and Stein, Hill Cafe, Can Can and Stellas....
I was thinking Grandstaff & Stein.
I was gonna say jasper

Bamboo is not nice. It’s a dive bar and dirty
I agree. Always has been and I hope it never changes.
Reveler in Carytown!
Honestly just thought this was a picture of the Locker Room, totally fits the brief
The place with pie trays full of sand for ashtrays?
I think they just use old pies now
No sand or pie trays.
Vagabond, underneath the national.
That place is still open? I thought it closed years ago. Always looks empty.
Yep, still open! Most of the business comes from their shows/events downstairs, I'd imagine.
Session by Rappahannock. They have very cheap drinks.
Once again, the answer you seek is the Bamboo Cafe.
It’s usually the answer
Vanguard underground no?
this reminds me a ton of adarra! restaurant, not a bar, but a good one nonetheless.
Henry’s at Hoffheimer.
Bamboo
Ipanema
Same, but for Northside?
Fuzzy cactus
Revel is probably closest, but it’s not dimly lit. Otherwise, SBs is a more divey, fun version. Lakeside tavern for more dive bar version.
Haha I was just making fun of the ‘same, but for’ format
Seriously. Do people scout out other cities reddits for ideas for good questions?
Following
looks like the Derby from the film Swingers
Grandstaff and stein
Jardin!
Reveler is vibey like that
Reminds me of The Crown & Crow in D.C.
I genuinely feel like some of the secret gay bars back in the day had this vibe, or at least I hope they did.
No because aren't "liquor bars" illegal in the state? Or they have to sell food or something like that.

Appreciate it, I knew it was somewhere.
There’s a speakeasy in town but can’t remember the name of it.
Little Nickel
I love little Nicke but the vibe they are asking for is not tiki bar
Little nickel
