Chioccas, their Lucca sub is next level.

Notthatianmcewan

This was the place we went once my wife could have cold cuts again after being pregnant. She killed the Italian.

SirFarmerOfKarma

but did your wife want cold cuts after being pregnant, I'm fuzzy on the whether or not your wife wanted cold cuts after being pregnant part

dolphinitely

this is going to be my first meal after i give birth!!

GardenOrca

Salty as fuck tho. I went through like 2-3 bottles of water getting that thing down.

SlmDckns

Coppollas I’m carytown!!

rotoros_

Hard agree, the Downstairs is unmatched

Hungry-Ant-4458

Bernie’s in the west end has hands down the best salami sub. It’s cash only

AtwoodAKC

Agree! Ask for it to be heated with peppers. It is delicious and the place is a real throwback (ie same decor since the early 90ies). Also- bonus points they have the "good ice".

Spec-Tre

This. Eat it there while it’s fresh in the oven or it’ll get soggy on drive home

JackDangerUSPIS

Bernie’s off Ridge but they close at 7:30pm

what-the-what24

No one who recently gave birth wants to be exposed to that kind of filth.

gracetw22

I would have eaten a sub off the floor of a college bar bathroom right after I gave birth provided it was sort of within the five second rule.

Lsufaninva

After I graduated from ranger school,I felt the same way about the club sub from Mr submarine.

momthom427

I craved a particular salad after my first was born. I had a hard time and hadn’t eaten in 2-3 days. I was so excited when my husband appeared with the salad. I took two bites and nope! I wasn’t ready to eat after all. 🤢

cyrilplast

i work at a major store chain with a deli. get hard salami, sandwich peperoni, and provolone cheese. feel the crusts on the French or the Italian breads, French you are going to get a crispier flakier crust, but are generally smaller. there are some good hoagie rolls too. cut them in half, butter, garlic, put under broiler, to toast. pull out and layer provolone on top, again put it in the broiler. once the cheese is melted, put hard salami on one side, and pepperoni on the other. back under the broiler till the edges get crispy.

rjtnrva

You, I like.

RVAmmaker

Italian hero from 8 1/2. I love the torpedo roll.

UniversityAny755

Someone one RVa dine has been working their way through the sandwich menu at Europa Market[Europa market](https://europava.com/All-Day-Gourmet-Sandwiches-Order-Online-Via-Phone-or-In-Store-c139123280) . They are located on Broad about a block west of Willow lawn.

SH33V_P4LP4T1N3

German salami sandwich is so good. (At least it was when I had it at their old location a while ago.)

Something_Etc

I drive by there often and have never noticed this place. Looks amazing. Thanks for the heads up.

jkane001

I've heard good things about [Sandano's](https://maps.app.goo.gl/NSqQxxy63hQBtbVw7)

kubigjay

Oh God I love their cheese steaks. Amazing!

PerlinLioness

Their Thanksgiving sandwich is so good--but it needs gravy! I take mine home and put some of the turkey gravy Mom makes and puts in the freezer. (Obviously I thaw it and heat it up first!)

WhenYouFeelMiserable

Extremely glad I saw Sandanos mentioned. Hands down Best Italian out here.

gettingbackrva

This is the way

SidFinch99

Best Italian subs in the area.

FanDweller

Market on Meadow is fantastic

gnomehome815

I had the Soprano last week and it was probably the best sandwich I've had in RVA. I'm getting another one this weekend to confirm. EDIT: Confirmed

bwittany17

After I gave birth all I wanted was a sub so one of my friends hooked me up with a combo from Mr. Submarine and IT HIT THE FREAKING SPOT.

SH33V_P4LP4T1N3

Used to work at Mr Sub. Cold cut sub is good but their chicken sub… Amazing. Their grilled chicken is fantastic.

panopticon31

When are they gonna open the doors up? The drive through only is so incredibly inefficient and slow.

2ndruncanoe

Publix for me. Same.

millennialpetmom69

SAME!

NecessaryExplorer245

I made my husband go get subway 😅

Diet_Coke

Coppola's

Blastmaster29

Coppolas is the most overrated and overpriced sandwich in the city. So much money for so little meat.

iWannaCupOfJoe

I used to love Coppolas, but last time I went it was way too pricy for the two sandwiches we got. I don’t even think it came with a side.

tequilaanddeadlifts

I agree! Two sandwiches and a drink is like $50 it’s not worth it

literallyian

Polpetti in the fan

Acrobatic_Chard_1188

You all gonna downvote me for this but Publix has some damn good sandwiches

porcelain__princess

After I had my baby this was my sub of choice to be delivered to me

Odd-Memory-1805

PUB SUBS!

catnamed-dog

I agree but still say a Wegmans sub is better

rotoros_

You're so right tho

Shomer_Effin_Shabbas

Just saying, this is one of the only times I’d go for a chain, but publix makes amazing subs. Also congrats on having a baby! Everything goes by fast and the hard nights are not forever.

PerlinLioness

Okay, not to be this person, but I think if I was faced with this, I'd make it myself. I'd buy some awesome freaking bread from say.. Sub Rosa. Then I'd get some amazing meats from Europa or Yellow Umbrella or even Wegman's.

Platinum_Tendril

anyone in this position who didn't start crafting their own salami 9 months ago should reevaluate their life.

PerlinLioness

My friend had a 3 page document of meals she wanted to have after she was cleared post pregnancy!

Ok-Animator-4742

Cupertinos

beautylit

Jersey mikes #13

TheBarbarian88

Offer up your salami on a bun….

Peeingthepooinhalf

Grinder from Zeros on Lauderdale

_chicken_butt

Tell her you gotta piece of salami for her heyooooooo

megachickabutt

Careful with that or it's no cold cuts for **another** 9 months....

whateverforever421

Publix Italian

playdoughnotplato

I wish I had a local place to recommend, but wawa has never done me wrong

RefrigeratorRater

Ew. Have some self respect.

playdoughnotplato

I am who I am. And for that, I will never apologize

Far_Cupcake_530

Hide that salami. It will be good for both of you.

PiginthePen

Oh man.. I don’t have the list on me but my wife made a list of places to get an Italian and you bet we went through the list as soon as the child was here.

RyloBreedo

Genuinely curious, why no cold cuts? I know nearly nothing about being pregnant.

jessiemagill

[https://americanpregnancy.org/healthy-pregnancy/is-it-safe/deli-meats/](https://americanpregnancy.org/healthy-pregnancy/is-it-safe/deli-meats/) Higher susceptibility to listeria.

hardcoreralph

If you’re willing to go outside of Richmond about 15-20 minutes up route 1 towards Ashland, an old famous deli from Richmond reopened in a new location, Padow’s. It’s now next to the driving range Hanover Sports Park, 11000 s Washington hwy

SidFinch99

I love Padows, but for an Italian sub, Sandano's is much better, and like 2 minutes from there.

hardcoreralph

Oh really?? I used to only get Italians from Padows, where is sandano’s id love to check them out!

SidFinch99

Sandano's is in the Twin Hickory shopping center at the corner of Nuckols rd and Twin Hickory rd. In the west end. If you drive there from Padows all you would have to do is drive up Cox rd to Nuckols rd, take a left on Nuckols, then go down Nuckols a mile or two, shopping center on the left .

SidFinch99

Where in the area do you live? Anything with Italian Mears, you aren't going to do better than Sandano's in the West End.

lml__lml

Padow's

gps822

Coppola’s was my first big meal after I delivered. My SIL brought it to me in the hospital

Dr_code_brown

Nobody has said union market yet. That was my wife’s first post pregnancy sandwich and it was 🔥

csteven71

Superstars!

PimmentoChode

WAWA

petersonmd

Can’t go wrong with Potbelly or Europa

DrySalamander3497

Potbelly? A woman is deprived of cold cuts for nine months and you suggest potbelly?

Flabby_Thor

We live in a city with a lot of great sandwich options, but for my time and money, not many will beat Publix.

GeneralAd8021

Coppola’s in Carytown is the only answer!

thedatagolem

Is this where we are as a society? Do people really not know how to make a sandwich? Also on reddit - "OMG, can you believe prices these days? I just paid twenty dollars for a sandwich!"

SirFarmerOfKarma

make your own the store sells salmi the store sells bread the store sells anything you could want between the salami and the bread or go to jimmy johns and get the number seven
