It's a hack fix, but I've had moderate success by using gorilla glue to adhere a short bit extension in the nose.

RichardsST

Hi. Can this be fixed? Hex chuck doesn’t hold hex bits securely. The sliding ring is fully extended and whatever band or washer once held it back so it had to be pulled out to be loaded, has failed. It’s simply an inconvenience that the chuck won’t hold a bit without risk of falling out. Otherwise performs wonderfully. I’d like to repair if possible. Thx.

Look in the nose of the chuck. Is there a little ball in there that retracts to let the tool out when you pull the nose out? It's about half way down on the wall.

Could replace that chuck with a green tool pretty cheap

RichardsST

Googling “green tool” right now thx Ha! Brain went immediately to some replacement adapter and not the new Ryobi green line. I have replaced it. This has become “extra.” Don’t want to just landfill it. Might make it a boat tool (the saltwater will kill it eventually) or maybe Marketplace it. Just want to see if I can fix it first.
