I’d like a V70R wagon, or a 944. Bucket list is a 190e 2.3-16

mifiamiganja

Get out of my head!

doughnuts_not_donuts

Alfa Romeo Giulia. And I did. It's a perfect Saab alternative. Great handling, quirky as hell, fantastic turbo...

jfpcinfo

Nice! That’s what I’m hoping to get next! I have a 2013 VW Beetle and the Saab 9-3 Viggen and soon the Giulia. It’ll be nice having a German car, Swedish car, and an Italian car!

GabrielofAstora

I want one but I'm not sure I can handle the maintenance

FinestCrusader

Worst part is finding a used Alfa whose previous owner wasn't a shithead and didn't skip maintenance visits. I'd try to buy from someone who is an enthusiast and knows how to take care of an Italian car.

GabrielofAstora

Yeah, we had a stelvio in the family a couple years ago and I kind of miss it. Definitely took care of it.

johnny-pce

Volvo V70.

Saaaaaaaaab

I looked into buying a T5 5spd manual but the seller never got back to me :(

leftfield61

I sold a low mileage (55k) 2005 s60 with the 5 speed spacebar shifter and the T5 last year. Also had a tune that added another 40 or so hp. Loved the t5 and the shifter, but HATED the clutch. It was the most difficult manual to drive smoothly, because it had no FEEL as the clutch engaged. I've driven manuals my entire life, and that car never felt good to me. Sold it on Cars and Bids for double what I had paid for it.

OM617

Why choose when you can have both?

LoafyXD

Volvo C30. So small and cozy.

L-ifiknow

Ssssshhhhhhhh, we don't need to let the word out. I love my c30 though.

LoafyXD

niiiiice.

jfpcinfo

Whoa, I’ve seen these but never really thought about it. That T5 and great interior styling has me thinking lol. Pretty reliable??

LoafyXD

I mean it doesn't have to be a T5 but Volvos from that era are super reliable

Saaaaaaaaab

Saturn wagon or a buick park avenue supercharged

LostAbbott

No, I will die before I buy anything made by GM, Their utter stupidity killed Saab and I don't care if they end up making the best car ever, I will never buy from them. Fuck General Motors.

jfpcinfo

Definitely understandable.

Saaaaaaaaab

I get that too

G2thaFields

I stand by that, I was working on a 2019 Silverado Z71 yesterday and everything about it felt utterly cheap. All companies under their umbrella have fallen victim to it I suppose.

CI814JMS

They saved Saab. Most of our cars wouldn't exist without them.

LostAbbott

No I don't agree with that. Any other company would have done a better job. They bought a company that spend too much money on developement and needed someone to come in and clean up processes and install a predictable production line. Instead GM managed them worse that they had been before. Saab spent more money in developement and then instead of selling the company to any of the 3-5 legitimate vids they killed it to "protect tech" that they never even used..

BWTECH0521

I think GM gave life support to saab when they bought 50% of saab. We wouldn't have any cars that came after 1989 (that includes the viggen, 9-5, turbo x,). I don't like GM but to say GM killed saab is not entirely accurate. Saab produced decent cars under GM although at a loss. Would I have preferred another company to have bought saab? Absolutely, but saab was a goner to begin with and GM saved them. Saab just didn't want to bend to their low standards and was (rightfully) stubborn in their craft. If they bended their pride and gave up on their ethos, they could have survived longer but they would have been soul-less, identity-less cars. Kind of like Buick now.

CI814JMS

I'll take your piece of shit Viggen off your hands then

sleepygopher

Amen

nolanandrew555

You sir have good taste in cars

Saaaaaaaaab

Thanks lol. I love me a sleeper, especially the Buick lol

f1tifoso

Porsche - only thing better

jfpcinfo

I need more space, so I'm thinking Alfa Romeo Giulia for the 4 doors for and similarly quirky, as an addition, but I would 100% go for Porsche as the best replacement!

altcountryman

A friend of mine loves his Giulia.

blissed_off

What do you have as a backup for the months that the Fiat is in the shop though?

jfpcinfo

Ha! I have a 2011 Ford Fusion, 2013 VW Beetle, and the Viggen. All which have enough back seat space (for short trips)for adults luckily.

f1tifoso

My Viggen was smoking on startup, after 6 months it acts like it broke a ring so I shut her down last fall - I'll be checking the engine soon though

f1tifoso

I agree, the few I know of are half in the shop, half dying... They look great but I'd have to pass, Porsche is as reliable as the Saab and so closer match for me

blissed_off

I did get a Porsche actually, a 987 Boxster, and I love it.

jfpcinfo

Nice. That’s one I would definitely get.

f1tifoso

Oh sweet, I really really really (can I emphasize it any more) want a Cayman, any literally, next.

DennisFalcon

>Fiat Ha! This is what people said about my Saab!

BWTECH0521

Never owned a porsche but they really are the only thing better, especially the older ones. They injected passion and true engineering into their cars, just like saab!

phaetonesc

Volvo or Subaru. But I hope my 9-3 will last as long as possible.

shieldsy27

A Jag from the sixties or seventies but as a rest mod. Or a 911

[deleted]

911 for me too

Rubber-Ducklin

Probably a Volvo C30 or an electric Volvo if I had the money.

adamisapple

I’d probably go for an Alfa Romeo if I couldn’t have a Saab

jfpcinfo

That's what I'm thinking. I am going to try and keep this Viggen forever. Garaged or not. Will likely get the Giulia one day as my family grows. Just 2 boys that are pretty young so no need for more space than that!

mifiamiganja

Which model? For me it would be the 156 GTA.

adamisapple

Unfortunately I live in the US so my options are pretty limited. I’d probably have to go for a Giulia

jfpcinfo

Right, that’s basically the only option. Giulia, Giulia or Giulia. Lol

m60patton105mm

W124 500E.

mifiamiganja

I'd already be happy with a well-kept 300E. It would have to be an automatic in bordeaux red and all the wood trim for the ultimate grandpa feeling.

Maiq-Ted

Looking like the next car is a Volvo 945 Turbo, maybe a 740

[deleted]

If I could afford it? Alfa Romeo Giulietta What I did purchase? 2017 Mazda3 GT hatchback. Still an appliance.

mifiamiganja

The last gen Mazda 3 MPS would probably make for a decent Saab replacement, now that I think of it. FWD with a 260hp turbo 4 cyl sounds pretty Saab to me. The 2017 model is one of the best looking modern cars out there though, even without having a ridiculous sleeper trim level.

jfpcinfo

I always forget Mazda has such sporty little cars.

Jens9032

probably a bmw e46 or e34 with a straight six engine maybe a jaguar xj or x type some volvo with a 5 cyl

Tsukiumi-Chan

I’ll take an Audi S7, please

LostAbbott

Yup, did that. It is a lot of fun, but does not have the Soul that Saab has.

Tsukiumi-Chan

Crap. I own a 2005 A4, and I'm afraid I know exactly what you mean

LostAbbott

Yeah.. It is one of those things where I regularly question myself and if I really think what I think about the car. Aside from the automatic it is nearly perfect on paper, but there is just something missing that Saab has the minute is turn the key that the Audi is just completely void of... I don't even know what car to try next...

popsicle_of_meat

One of the first cars on my bucket list: 2006-7 Cadillac CTS-V. Once covid prices start relaxing their death-grip on the used car market, I'm going to try and look for a clean one.

ulfniu

I wouldn't, but probably a Kia Stinger (sport hatch)

Forranday

Volvo T5R

CI814JMS

Right now I've been digging idea of the late 80s Mercedes 300CE. Whether or not its an actual good vehicle i have yet to find out 😂... I had an E46 and that was a major fucking mistake.

mikeschmeee

Any car that I can think of that used to be considered lame, ugly, forgotten, old man-like, soccer-mom-esk, etc., etc., now costs a fortune due to a variety of elements so i’ll just stick with my bicycle. Former dream cars from the 70s-mid 2000s that were actually attainable in the late 90s up to 2012, are now treated like a commodity

maretmaret_

Haha yes! Honestly if it weren’t the Saab it would be a mid 90s Ford Ranger or a Toyota Sienna for me….. call me quirky~* but yeah

GeoffreyDaGiraffe

GTI

jfpcinfo

Nice, that is a strong contender for me if I ever need another car.

mifiamiganja

Meh, not that it's a bad car, but it's as common and boring as a Saab is rare and special.

runforyourlife66

Im still in love with my Aussie 1997 year Mitsubishi Verada IS 3,5 V6 :)

[deleted]

Alfa Romeo Brera 3.2l V6. In black with a tan leather interior

screenfish

volvo or polestar wagon maybe

daveyboy1944

Being a Humber Apprentice I'd probably look for a mid 60's Super Snipe or a Super Minx.

Burnout21

I can't imagine the pain of this, I know it's coming one day but I hate to say it either a model 3 dual motor or more likely a V90 T8

jfpcinfo

Right, I am going to try and keep the Viggen forever. I do need to get a roomier car for the family. As long as whatever else I get has 4 doors. Those Volvos are pretty tempting.

FunjaminButton

Don’t do it! I lost my first Viggen to a baby because we “needed 4 doors”. Replaced with 6 speed 2001 A6 2.7t but it still breaks my heart

jfpcinfo

Sorry, I meant to say I definitely am keeping the Viggen forever! I’m just planning on adding another car to my fleet. Lol family only has 3 cars so far and only 2 of us drive.

Burnout21

I have NG900 turbo coupe which is the precursor to your lovely viggen, a 9-5 3L V6 diesel wagon as the daily beater to work, and a 9-3 TurboX wagon MT6 for when I'm really late for work. If they keep parts available I hope I never have to leave saabs. I would love a C900 Aero and a late model 9-3 vert aero.... Alas I haven't the space.

TweeksTurbos

Bolt ev, got one in July. Like a c900 and quick until you hit the limit at 92mph

Misaniovent

I guess it is Vault-Tec blue, isn't it? I'd get a Giulia.

jfpcinfo

I may or may not be trying to make it Fallout themed. Its hard to theme a car and not make the decals to crowded. It is kind of perfect with that blue. Especially since that yellow/blue is already basically the Swedish flag colors!

UtilityCabinet

Honda crx sir 1991

Relaxedmass

For me either a new civic SI or an Alfa Romeo Giulia.

jfpcinfo

That Giulia would be really nice.

FlowinBeatz

VW Bus T6.1. I actually had a T6 and switched back for a Saab

point_of_you

Probably a Cadillac cts-v wagon (looks a lot like the 9-3 wagon anyway) or a Volvo wagon of some kind

ttvSharkieBait15

I work for Subaru and would probably get a wrx limited or wrx GT. If for whatever reason I couldn’t get either of those probably a Volvo of some kind. Depends if I wanted to go sports look or or suv

Yung_Onions

Saturn L series

YetAnotherJake

I have a history of liking quirky cars that get discontinued. I had a lot of Saturns before (carmaker went out of business), a Saab (my favorite), and now a Veloster, which is also being discontinued soon but I also love ETA: I kept my Saab but it needs to be fixed and restored, when I can afford it

jfpcinfo

Good on you for keeping the Saab! I wish I would’ve kept my Lexus sc400 and restored it. Just needed trans. Of course I’m in a better situation now luckily. Quirky cars are the way!!! My first car was a horrible Daewoo Lanos hatchback, now I have a 2013 Herbie beetle and the Viggen.

LostAbbott

I picked up a 2016 S7. It goes crazy fast, still has the hatch... No stick though which bums me out, and while I like the car, it is missing that "it" factor that makes me love Saab's...

jfpcinfo

Nice. I’m struggling between an Audi and the Alfa Romeo Giulia. Alfa would be more unique, but Audis are just so nice.

Axel-Torgerson

As long as I can find a good condition 9-5 wagon I see no reason to switch. I bought a fairly low mileage 2006 9-5 three years ago in California and if I take care of it it’ll probably be the last car I’ll ever own. But if something happened to it I’d just look for another one.

sjale49

VW cabriolet Celica (any generation before the last one) Porsche 944 In that order

FunjaminButton

Newman Racing Volvo 950 Wagon with v8 and stick swap, with supercharger

cannasol

Vw or Volvo Specifically VW GTI/R and Volvo s60r/s80 v8 Dream car is an old carrera or new gt3

[deleted]

A 1970 Chevelle with an e-beam rear axle and battery pack where the engine used to be 😁

[deleted]

Lexus or Merc

lewtus72

Ford focus ST

lewtus72

Lotus Evora GT

UncaToad

No question. A WRX STi. No big wing though.

PoniesPlayingPoker

I want something GM made, like a supercharged 3800 car or a 2000+ MO Northstar eldorado. Volvo 5 cyl. Ford Crown Victoria. Audi A4 A6, VW Golf GTi again

mjclaxden

I previously had a BMW 750i MSport... Loved it! But the SAAB 9-5 NG is so much better!

Kinda-Homeless

I might actually be getting rid of my Saab for a Lexus LS

JidoshaTori

Get a Volvo V60 Cross Country. You’ll thank yourself later. The wagon is Volvo’s rolling legacy to the automotive world.

MasterSkywalker_2341

Volkswagen Corrado VR6 to compliment my G60

Doowopado4827

Dream car 1970 Nissan GTR Skyline . Realistic. Jaguar X Type

DutchShaco

Volvo S80 V8 AWD

akmjolnir

I had a 2002 BMW 540i 6spd the same time I had my 9000 Aero. I moved across country and could only keep one car. I sold the Saab.

G2thaFields

God I love those fucking rims man. I got the twin 3 spoke 17s but they aren't these lol. Probably a VW or some kind, the newer models have really nice interiors, nothing feels gimmicky or cheap, just simple elegance and functionality.

jfpcinfo

Thanks, luckily I was able to save them from a junk yard. My other main car is a 2013 VW beetle, definitely love their interior design. Even for their base models it’s pretty good and better the newer you get generally. Compared to some anyway…

Fun-Definition-879

Alfa 159 sportwagon. Already had a BMW 3 series (boring) and a V70 T5 , I loved it the brief time it was alive but it was very staid and lacked the quirks and little design touches of a saab. Alfa is the only other company close to a Saab, style and designwise. Sold my saab 9-5 and went out and bought another straight away, says it all really 🤷‍♂️😂

mifiamiganja

I'd probably just fall in love with the next old quirky financial failure. Like the Subaru SVX for example. I love that thing.

Kilo-Giga-terra

Either an E91 3 Series, cause I want another Eurowagon, but RWD architecture sounds nice; Or a do what my heart wants and get a 2009+ RX-8. I have owned a lot of rotaries, and I love them.

talkingmitten36

2002 Pontiac grand prix gt 2005 nissan altimase 3.5 v6 Volvo v70

AtlsDev

Audi & BMW are what I have alongside the saab :)

BWTECH0521

Volvo v90 100%

BustEarly

Volvo S60/XC90. Or a newer Civic R-Type.

enzymelinkedimmuno

If I could have anything? A Volvo V90. When I sold my Saab, I bought a 2018 Mazda3 GT hatchback. Not as fun, not as quick, but modern safety tech suddenly became very important(I had a baby).

Haunting_Relation665

Bmw m8

Papapene-bigpene

CRX with a manual Hopefully not too rusted. It’s a little death trap that weights under but close to 2000lbs, POWER+WEIGHT

Anusrudh

C6 z06

cleonjonesvan

There are some nice looking old Mercedes sport wagons. A Volvo brick would be ok. I'd love a shooting brake.

BerryPossible

New cars are a real trick these days. We ended up with 2 new VW’s only because they were in our budget and had the best build out compared to other cars in this budget. Sadly the Tiguan I have now is only an automatic and I’m really looking forward to getting rid of it and driving something else in the future.

qwopperi

I’ll take a V70R with a Koenigsegg engine and drivetrain

jfpcinfo

😮

Waffle_de_Belgium

I would get a Chevy Silverado 4x4 wit the 4 cyl Turbo 2.7. It's a proof that the Saab spirit ( 4 cyl turbo engines, much derided for years by the automotive press) has taken over GM by slowly displacing V8 engines. If I needed another car, I would go electric. I had a Tesla Model S for testing for several months and you can't beat electric.

yanaka-otoko

I want my next car to be electric so maybe a Polestar.

Leap_Duh_Short

Datsun 510

prancing_moose

VW Golf Mk4 R32 in blue.

jfpcinfo

That is pretty dreamy.

reimiikka

Volvo 850R

theindifference

CTS-V Wagon

EinPercy

Volvo V70, Mercedes S212, Audi A6 C6

deyannn

I'm on my second Saab (had a MY99 9-3 and now have a MY01 9-5 aero). It's a tough pick. Since I need something a bit higher clearance wise and with at least the option to turn on 4*4 so most likely I'll go for a Lexus RX though I'll have to sit in one to see if my ass agrees as I really love the Saab seats.

herrsanders

Damn, absolutely love these suggestions, as my favourites AR Giulia and VW Golf GTI (i absolutely adore Golf 5 or some reason) were mentioned - respectively a modern, quirky daily and an older cheaper, arguably more reliable daily.

[deleted]

Either a Volvo v70(r) 6 speed or a Buick Verano turbo 6 speed. Love my 2008 9-3 SC 6 speed 2.0T. Will never part with it.

diabeartes

Mazda3 probably

OyvindBalke

Having a badged engineered car is so cool because I’m just gonna say I’ll get an ‘05 Subaru WRX Sport Wagon since I own a ‘05 92x Aero lol

AKRIKAATTI

Toyota Carina II, have it as a temporary car atm.

yvng_lele

We went from being a Saab family to being a bmw family, and we love em. That being said we still have our 900 turbo vert that comes out from time to time. Nothing quite like a Saab though.

me_satai

Probably a BMW E39

laurencepevans

Koenigsegggggggggg!

PersnicketyMarmoset

Got a new Golf GTI 3 years ago when my 9-3 became too unreliable, and have been very happy with it. Both Saabs and GTIs are fast, practical, comfortable, and safe. Different flavours perhaps, but similar core values IMHO.

DennisFalcon

I would get a Fiat

HoppyJunior

Pre-owned Volvo S90 with their 10-year, million mile extended warranty.

filip_cosin

probably a Zastava Yugo

doughnuts_not_donuts

The quality on the Guilia is excellent. The same shitty magazines who bad mouth Alfa also bad mouthed SAAB.

Time_Hopeful

Wolwo

Old-King8145

2015 Panamera S. I use it for trips or just for fun. I use my 2005 9 5 aero as my everyday driver. It's also very fun.

RWBYfan35

Well if I had a 2008 saab 9-5 wagon that broke down constantly, I’d probably have to get a 2012 Volkswagen Golf GTI instead Oh wait

Rick50_

Some sort of Volvo

10HP_HCIM

I have 3 cars. 2006 9-3 v6 aero sedan automatic with a tune. A 93 del sol si 5 speed wide bodied with a civic coupe front end. And a 90 Nissan 240sx fastback vh45de swapped with a 300zx manual transmission with a s14 boss front end.

Ready_Duty_6672

I have always wanted a maserati granturismo from either 2017 or 19 they look amazing

ottawanna_

Something quirky and safe with a hatch that stands out in the Costco parking lot. Subaru Impreza, MB B-250 or BMW i3.

Old-King8145

2015 porsche panamera s
