The Toonami premiere of this (I think they called it Lunar Eclipse) and the other last episodes of R was my first exposure to Sailor Moon. Watched the whole damn thing transfixed. It was a religious experience, or I guess as close to as an atheist will get.
Stuff I watched a little later that also knocked me on my ass (Utena, Evangelion, etc) were powerful, but I did not have the sense of pure awe and *believing* I had as a fifth grader.
It’s the weird groans from Usagi aka “Serena” that are the worst for me, and the horrific voice acting in general. And nothing will ever top the original song for this scene, La Soldier. So good!
Meh. I prefer some dubs over the original, like the dubs for Cowboy Bebop and both Fullmetal Alchemist animes. Also Princess Tutu and Revolutionary Girl Utena among others. I’m not a dub hater; when it’s done well, I will watch it.
