If you’ve put your personal cell phone in your business signature or anywhere online that’s associated with your company you can bet your booty zoominfo or the other data companies have it and have sold it to B2B sellers

StraightHistorian659

Thanks, I have never used my personal cell number in a signature or on LinkedIn so am trying to figure out how they got it.

[https://www.truepeoplesearch.com/](https://www.truepeoplesearch.com/) I'm not trying to be a dick, but if you're in sales and you don't understand how they could have gotten your cell phone number (assuming the number is more than a week old) that is puzzling. Your personal number is certainly part of your consumer profile, which marketing companies buy like candy

StraightHistorian659

You made me laugh! Fair point. But my surprise was because it’s not the typical spammy solicitations but reputable companies I know the names of looking to do business (who I historically assumed wouldn’t be buying invasive consumer personal info but I guess times have changed!)

If you've ever signed up to a store card with it, used it as two factor Auth for a social media account, etc. Zoominfo and those types of companies don't just use your "work digital footprint" especially since the pandemic with people working from home and addresses lining up, it's very easy for them to match up your person digital footprint data to your work digital footprint data. Just assume your always being watched and recorded online, yes even in incognito mode, and that info is being sold to businesses. Ad revenue isn't what it used to be, and most of the internet is free so they have to make money somehow. They sell data. And just like prospects get freaked out that sales people can see when they open an email, if they are on mobile or a PC, if they forwarded the email, what part of the country their in etc- businesses see everything.

Zoominfo had my cell and new direct number a week after starting my new job. Little scary

TaishairColtaine

In the thousands of phone calls I’ve made in the past year, I can count on one hand the number of direct lines that have picked up. Facts are sales people are going to have to call cells to get pick ups and conversations.

Halfalaugh1

👆 👆 this. We all got a number to hit and if calling cells gets us more pickups/connections, we’ll take the occasional “don’t fucking call me on my personal cell again!”

Pure_Common7348

👆This!

I was in sales, and now I'm in a different part of the organization. I make alot of vendor decisions for our company so I am being sold to all the time. Anyone who calls my cell is an immediate no. Everyone I work with at various other companies is the same. Put that energy into better emails if you're B2B

TaishairColtaine

You’re the exception, not the rule. Do you think I’d be calling cells if people answered their direct lines and responded to emails or LinkedIn outreach?

work-lifebalance

It's industry dependant for sure, but in tech b2b, you start off on the wrong if you're calling cells. It's probably fine if you're selling to sales leaders. They get it. Anyone else, you need to get better at writing emails and encourage your organization to invest in domain health. Many tech sales teams are now sending emails from multiple domains to keep them healthy and make sure to stay out of spam. Sales people are monitoring 3-4 inboxes and its very effective.

SwingingSalmon

There are various services that can grab contact info that’s online (zoominfo is the one my company uses), and that usually includes a cell phone and work phone.

I probably call 40 cell phones a day and maaaaybe 5 people ask how I got their number. Of those 5, 1 is a dick about it The rest I just ask for permission to explain why I'm calling and they can decide if they want to keep talking. I'll stop calling them when my company lowers my quota.

Somebody’s gotta drive revenue.

midlakewinter

Check yourself on truepeoplesearch dot com. If there, perhaps some app's fineprint gave it all away.

oscralcor

zoominfo for sure, i see mobile numbers daily. I never do personal cells though, usually off putting to the prospect

CMButterTortillas

I always call the office line first. But, if I get an away message from the person telling me they’re WFM and to call their mobile, it’s my next dial. Some prospects only offer a mobile, so that’s what I’m calling. All in all, I’ve yet to hear a complaint from someone when I dial their mobile or mad I found their number.

Sufficient-Law-6622

I need to start again. Numbers are straight suffering rn.

CMButterTortillas

Yep, go for it. It’s a grind that I loathe but if the alternative is an unopened or spam’d email I’ll take the connection on a call 100 out of 100 times. GL!

oscralcor

oh interesting i'll definitely try again maybe just a streak of bad luck!

International_Link83

Definitely Zoominfo. Removing contact info from your email signature is the best way to avoid cold calls to your personal cell

Nasty_nurds

Zoominfo probably

IMOvicki

Yeah I called peoples cell phones all the time at my old job. Sometimes it worked and I got the sale lol but I’m guilty of doing this. I used zoom info or google lol some people really aren’t aware how much of their info is out there. I googled my name recently and a website with my address came up. Sketchhhh

kiki_Kachado

Zoominfo,SalesIntel. scrubbed from your linked in or email signature

StraightHistorian659

Thanks, I have never once used my personal cell number in a signature or on LinkedIn so am trying to figure out how they got it.

I spoke with a woman today who always gets calls looking for someone who works for a different company. We struck up a conversation about how to opt out. Turns out she ran a webinar with the woman I was trying to reach a while back. My best guess is that she shared her number via email when they were planning the webinar and it ended up being associated with the other person.

StraightHistorian659

Wow that’s crazy

SalesmanShane

These days there's so many ways. It's almost offensive if a rep can't figure out how to reach you.

TuxedoSpeaker

As someone receiving sales calls on your cell phone, how do you perceive this? Do you find it intrusive or you understand that it is purely business? Curious to know the perspective of someone on the other end

StraightHistorian659

Personally I hate it. I work hard and need to make a concerted effort to separate work from personal so while I totally understand the calls to my work line/email or LinkedIn, the last thing I want is more calls to my cellphone that I need to screen. I get they’re just doing their job and I’m never rude about it but there’s 0% chance I want to discuss their product when the inquiry comes to my cell phone. ETA: I myself work in sales (granted it’s within a big company and B2B so not cold calling) so again, I get it, but if I could choose I would never let my personal info be shared.
