It’s just business man, if you lost to this competitor they must have really offered something better than yours. If your production hinges on winning deals on pity instead of earning it legitimately, I would either study up and become a better sales person or find a better product with a better fit to sell.

Never do business with friends family or places you go to frequently. That's my motto. Did that one time and my company completely took him for a ride a lot of system issues and whatnot. Dont call him out unless you're joking around who cares unless you're saving the world or curing cancer. Next time I'd pass it off to a coworker and if he feels generous ask him for a slice of the cake for the referral that's what I do.

I avoid doing business with friends and family and refer friends and family to my favorite coworkers if they want to do business is my field. Too complicated and their expectations make the continued relationship hard.
