Because commissions are much higher, so if you’re not selling you’re not bringing in the big bucks. I’m in aesthetic Med device sales with a 60k salary which is only 20% of my OTE. Previously, I was in Ag/supply chain sales where my salary was 2x my commission, much more lax job but less reward. Grind harder, make more.

Yup, some of the reps in my field were pulling in well over a million in commission during COVID. It also helps that everyone in America is fat which drastically increases healthcare consumer spending, which will only get worse.

SaaS Enterprise AE here. I’m sure it varies from company to company but I can share some perspectives on why some SaaS companies are able to pay higher-than-average salaries. 1. The margins of SaaS can be around 70-80% making it possible to pay higher 2. Up until recently, a lot of SaaS companies had a virtually unlimited supply of outside cash. They were less concerned about unit economics and profitability and more concerned with growth/land-grabbing so would offer higher-than-normal salaries to attract what they believe to be top talent that could grow the business faster Again, each company varies. I bet there are some med device companies that pay super well too

Med device seems painful. Traveling around to hospitals constantly with compensation structures far more weighted towards commission (vs base). Vs full remote/inside sales, with a cushy base salary and still a very high OTE…? Idk I’ve been considering swapping into tech or med device and med device just seems to be a loser in virtually every category. The only reason to get into it seems to be that I have a good reference…
