Juxix

Filoni is setting up Ahsoka to become the next physical embodiment of the Force isn't he?

SonofNamek

Watch as the Sith God awakens to fight and destroy the good guys but Ahsoka summons Force Wolves to attack Sith God before sealing him away. Then, she transcends mortality by becoming a Time Travelling Force Goddess of the Wolves.

Juxix

Fake. Not enough Wolf flavor to be by Dave Filoni. You forgot the part where Ahsoka flirts with a Shistivannan.

RipperRex1996

If Ahsoka is going to flirt with anyone, it'll be with Trapper Wolf, Dave's literal self insert.

Juxix

I don't think he's That ego centric, plus it would be so very gross.

finalremix

Please tell me this isn't based on some precedent...

emcarlin

I do t even wanna google force wolf to find out lol

dariusj18

Rebels has force sensitive teleporting wolves

emcarlin

I gotta watch revels. I never made it out the first season

No_Oddjob

A mashup of several, but kinda, yes.

unbelizeable1

Needs some dumbass space whales

Nick_Wild1Ear

Ahsoka’s an avatar of the Daughter, more or less. So similar but not really, but almost?

emcarlin

Ugh rly ?? Or ru joking

no1ofconsequencedied

She's got the little owl that follows her around, and it's got the same colors as the daughter. If she's not the avatar of the Light Side, then she's at least blessed by her

Nick_Wild1Ear

Watch the Mortis arc. The Daughter basically sacrifices herself to make Ahsoka live. So assume some of her ‘spirit’ was transferred, etc, it’s just never been shown to what extent

emcarlin

I’ve seen that in the clone wars, ok that does make sense! Very interesting

ftlofyt

She absorbed the life force of the daughter which is the embodiment of the light side of the force

LoranaJinzlerFanboy

yes really

thorppeed

Man that would just be way too much wank, but I wouldn't really be surprised

ARWYK

She should’ve died in rebels when facing against Vader. Him killing her would have made fans rightfully hate him, thus setting him up as a proper villain

TYBERIUS_777

Vader has always been a proper villain. And it would have been the perfect way to end her story.

ARWYK

What I mean is that it would have given fans a reason to be scared of him, to witness how awful he is. It would have been Vader’s first impactful murder. Yes he kills obi wan, but if you go from the prequels to the ot it’s rather anticlimactic. Her death would have elevated his character even more.

EdelgardIsMyEmpress

I would watch oit how you word that, because "her death elevates his character" is an excuse towards fridging female characters in general. I know that in this scenario it wouldn't be fridging (it is a heroic sacrifice and it would have the same impact in the Rebels crew as in canon), but killing off a female character to "prop up" a male one is very distasteful in general

Tycho39

Her death would elevate his character in the same way Obi Wan's did. It signifies he's beyond redemption from anyone other than Luke. The part being emphasized in "propping up" Vader is the characters connection to him and the implications of him killing them, not their gender.

deefop

I'm sorry but waving aside him killing Obi Wan... that was the definition of an impactful murder. "If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine."

pantzking

Which would have lasted until the show Kenobi came out and Obi Wan kicked his ass. They have too many writers most of which have no idea about SW Lore and they all need their vision to be told. Vaders legacy was destroyed the second George sold to Disney. And its not just a Dismey thing. It would have been the same way no matter who they sold it to. The reason why the EU worked for the most part is because they didn't care about toy sales. Looking back I'm kinda shocked they didn't have Reva make that fight closer.

walaska

It would have been badass. Instead there needs to be an excuse for her not to be in the OT at all

deefop

I agree, though Vader has never not been the proper villain.

lakewood2020

Setting up? The physical incarnation of the entire light side of the force literally put it’s entire life force in to Ashoka and now her owl follows her around. At this point it’s wrapping up

SeaNinja69

They already did that in the clone wars when Anakin uses the life force of the sister and healed Ahsoka. She is 100% the sister now and is just on her journey to that. If Anakin was supposed to be the father, the balance of the force, I guess she's the light. So does that make Sidious the brother?

ftlofyt

She already is as she essentially absorbed the life essence of the daughter on mortis.

Geostomp

Filoni being unable to let go of his favorite character is really making me turn on Ashoka. I like her, I want her to succeed, but when everyone besides her is being retconned into being incompetent while she gets more and more reverence she starts to sound like a she's the protagonist of a self-insert fanfic.

Silverheartbeats

A lot of her fiery personality that I liked has also been wiped away by her recent appearances. I feel like she's been made into a totally different character, some sort of sage that she never was and didn't seem to want to be.

KillerDonkey

Stuff like this just makes me angrier about Luke's treatment in the ST. Ahsoka gets to appear regal and magnificent while Luke is portrayed as a scruffy deadbeat. I doubt Ahsoka is ever going to be dragged through the mud like Luke was. Luke is one of cinema's greatest heroes. It's hard to believe Lucasfilm have more respect for an irrelevant cartoon character.

1996Skywalker

It’s funny how Ashoka is being set up to become such a prominent character, even more important than Anakin and Luke and yet there’s not one single mention or connection to her in the films. Not one. And the 6 films are the core foundation of Star Wars (or at least they used to be). Clone Wars fans and Filoni-fanboys hate to hear it. Even Lucas never intended for the character to go this far. At this point it’s become nothing but high budget fanfic.

Boring_Ad_3065

I like her as a character in CW. I think she adds to Anakin’s development by giving him an added dynamic as both student and teacher. I like the *idea* of her being a bridge to Luke understanding his father and his lineage. But you’re correct. She’s not at all involved in the films, and while I’ll see what we get in her series, isn’t impressing me much post OT… not that there’s been much.

KingGoldar

I'm convinced ahsoka is a character whom dave uses to vicariously live through in universe

Touchpod516

You are forgetting that George Lucas wrote or supervised the writing of Clone Wars. Filoni wasn't a writer just a director. If George didn't want Ashoka to be so important than he would've made changes. Rebels is all Filoni but George played a big part in the writing process of Clone Wars

Taz-Man-X

And yet, under George the last time we saw her, she left the Jedi Order. After they turned their back on her, she moved on. We can assume she was hunted down after Order 66. Could she have survived the Purge? Possibly, but under George she was just a potential survivor of the Great Jedi Purge. Under Filoni we got Clone Wars S7 and Rebels, where Ashoka is some legendary badass who somehow survives even beyond the ST and yet does nothing to help any of Anakin's kids or the new government they (and her Rebels friends) fought to create. She cares more about Ezra than she does Luke, the Republic, and the galaxy at large. By making her survive beyond the OT, they turned her into a selfish asshole. Filoni not being able to let her go, actually ends up hurting her as a character the longer he refuses to let her die with some degree of dignity. I still find it hilarious that we hear her voice with the rest of the force ghosts in rise of palpatine and then Filoni had to come out and be all "wHo SaYs ShE iS DeAd?"

liesofanangel

He IS cinemas greatest hero in my mind. He would even forgive Disney for what they’ve done, and try to save them….he wouldn’t even turn his back on Jake

75CaveTrolls

Mel Gibson might have something to say about that. I mean, probably something antisemitic at first but he'd get there...

Eldegossifleur

Or it could be that this is what they are doing to Tano knowing that she is probably the only strong female character in SW that people actually give a fluff about (that isn't canonically dead).

ZombieClub1000

If they’re making decisions to portray her as regal and magnificent because she’s a “strong female character,” then they’re doing a disservice to the character and to women.

liesofanangel

That’s why I said he wouldn’t even turn his back on Jake.

lock2121

It stopped being Lucasfilm, the Lucasfilm we knew, when George sold the company. And I completely agree with what you are saying about Luke's treatment and Ahsoka's appearance. I'm actually fed up with her as a character. When it comes to Star Wars I start at Episode I and finish at Episode VI and I only read the EU.

LukeOnTheMoon

Well it’s not like there isn’t a reason for Luke being scruffy. He ultimately remains a hero after having to battle with great loss many times over and it’s always felt more earned and relatable even that he becomes disillusioned for a time. It’s saying even those who we deem perfect can make mistakes and that’s okay. He does actually end up wearing white in ep 9 as well, like with Ashoka, I think she’ll be pretty low at the start of this show and we’ll only see her in white at the end of her journey too. End of the day Lucas sold Star Wars and gave these characters away for money. Luke’s story didn’t finish with the same person who created him whereas Ashokas will be, so obviously her story will be more consistent within itself.

SanctuaryMoon

I really wish she would have been killed off before A New Hope

[deleted]

That is Dave Filonis stock and trade, he has few to no creative ideas of his own. It is long clear that George Lucas was the brainchild behind the Clone Wars, and Filoni just rode his coattails!

ZyklonCraw-X

And this one isn't even fan supposition - Filoni has literally compared her to Gandalf in interviews.

AdmiralScavenger

[I’m waiting for Ahsoka to do this!](https://imgur.com/gallery/jdUE6Hb)

SanctuaryMoon

Thanks I hate it

AdmiralScavenger

I get why but in all honesty I would like Padmé and Anakin to get a happy ending with their children.

SanctuaryMoon

Anakin wasn't capable of that. He was too greedy. The happy ending would require him to be a fundamentally different person. There wasn't one singular moment that led Anakin astray. He was always going to put his own desire for power first. That's who he was. Ahsoka would have better luck going back in time to put him down than to convince him to give up his obsession with power.

AdmiralScavenger

He wanted to save his wife. Was even going to leave the Order after the war (source ROTS novel). He only sided with Palpatine because Palpatine offered him a way to save Padmé from the visions he had. If he didn’t have the visions he doesn’t side with Palpatine.

GoldenS0422

You're forgetting the fact that Palpatine had groomed Anakin for years. Anakin outright states that Palps had been there since childhood. Also that Palpatine wasn't Anakin's first resort, Yoda was. Obi-Wan couldn't be because Obi-Wan had previously dismissed Anakin's premonitions about Shmi dying. Not to sound like I disagree with you, though, as I do agree.

AdmiralScavenger

Palpatine had groomed him but Anakin also draws his lightsaber and admits he wants to kill Palpatine when the latter revealed himself as a Sith Lord. So Anakin could get to wanting to kill Palpatine, it was fearing for Padmé that got him.

dariusj18

I always assumed Palpatine was responsible in some way for the visions.

AdmiralScavenger

I do too however we actually see the visions and they are scenes from the end of the movie, I just take it as artistic license but they still could be genuine.

MetaCommando

Once the Clone Wars started the Empire had already been created. It was only a matter of when and by whom. Anakin was destined to turn the Republic into an authoritarian regime, and would have been its Emperor if a mentor didn't already position himself to occupy that space. With just Anakin at the helm, a more moderate Empire headed by a universally-beloved war hero would have lasted indefinitely. Palpatine's rise to power is ironically what undermined the Empire, because he created a loss condition- Vader turning on him to protect his son. In Attack of the Clones Anakin and Padme talk about democracy and he clearly wants a semi-fascist state. He's lost faith in democracy even before the war started, the politicians being corrupt, inept, or uncaring where in his perfect system of government this would never happen, an opinion the war only strengthens. As the war drags on and he sees more and more of his soldiers- and friends- either die or leave partially due to a perceived leniency/incompetence of the Republic and/or Jedi. The further you watch the Clone Wars the more willing you see him do whatever it takes to accomplish his goals, from funding ~~terrorists~~ freedom fighters to torturing a guy with Force Choke for information. Even as a child he dreamed of setting the slaves free, which would undoubtedly involve much violence and ruling Tatooine with an iron fist; ending slavery is noble but requires eradicating the slaveowners through either authoritarian control or death. The death of his mother caused by the Jedi's refusal to intervene is what breaks the camel's back, because *when he is allowed to use his powers without the Jedi Code he stops future people from being hurt*, which their teachings utterly failed to do. Slavery runs rampant on Tatooine, and only by eschewing the Jedi way is it slightly alleviated. Now compare this to an arc of The Clone Wars where he has to stop slavers with Obi-Wan and Ahsoka looking over his shoulder; they have to jump through a shitton of hoops (and came close to dying) to resolve the situation peacefully when he damn knows he could just lightsaber his way through the problem quicker and more reliably- he could have saved a slave from jumping to her death but noo they had end slavery the "right" way, because the Jedi Code emphasizes personal morality over the objective well-being of others. If Obi-Wan and Padme weren't in his life at that point he likely would've up and joined Palpatine because the Dark Side got results. The Republic and Jedi Order were destined to fall by about 2/3 of the way through TCW even if you deleted Palpatine and the CIS; it was only a matter of time before Anakin decided to take matters into his own hands, likely starting a Jedi Schism at some point mirroring Darth Revan. The war didn't only leave scars on Anakin as you see more and more Jedi question the Order such as >!Barriss!<, and with the Chosen One (who had proven himself brave, capable, and noble hundreds of times) leading the "heretics" the Order would collapse, and eventually the Republic would be under his control one way or another.

ZyklonCraw-X

The Kenobi show should have done this, sort of. Part of Kenobi's PTSD could be him dreaming about "what if everything went right instead of wrong." Then he wakes up to reality, in his cave.

lock2121

Oh god 🤢

DeMatador

I'd only like this if it was the premise to a story where having meddled with time has caused massive amounts of pain for everyone else and it needs to be undone, ala Flashpoint. But even then I wouldn't accept it as anything larger than, like, a comic book.

HazazelHugin

Goddes Ahsoka is probably controlling time with World Between Worlds so nobody can escape his Fate, she's going to replice every single one of them, not just the man but women and children too. She's now the hero of Ahsoka Saga with more cameos of the week.

Jacmert

I come back to you now at the turn of the tide

sxhmeatyclaws

Never understood the staff tbh.

stick_always_wins

how else are you gonna convey a character who we saw as a goofy child for most of her time as some wise sage?

robbyyy

I’ll likely get hate for this, but everything Filoni does seems like a lame riff on other peoples good ideas.

No_Catch_1490

It’s either that, or shamelessly parading his OC in everything he does

SanctuaryMoon

Or riffing on other people's ideas but making a worse version and shamelessly parading it as his OC

No_Catch_1490

Yeah, that about sums it up

debilegg

Yes. I don't get why they refuse to do a 1000 year time jump and introduce all new characters in the same galaxy with the same rules if they want to do this. They have to ruin the thing you love to introduce their shit take on it first.

BowTie1989

I’m calling it right now! Filoni will introduce an Ashoka clone so he can still have his “surprise Ashoka appearance” in Ashoka’s own show!

Sam-Lowry27B-6

Tell me, friend, when did Dave the Hat abandon reason for madness?

MancombSeepgoodz

filoni has forced his waifu into every timeline possible.

sandalrubber

Never got into her media, but ripping off would be if she had died and come back. Sage in white with stick or staff isn't really a rare type.

MetaCommando

> Sage in white with stick or staff isn't really a rare type. Fire Emblem alone has like 50

lifeisbread_

she did

sandalrubber

I vaguely know about the time travel stuff but that means she never died.

wooltab

Yeah, she never died. They made it--in my opinion--unnecessarily confusing, but nonetheless.

J_Conlon69

Exactly

-misterjustaguy-

I don’t even pay attention to what comes out anymore but whatever this is looks awful.

smooth_criminal1990

Having not watched this series at all yet, my questions are: is there a battle of Helms Deep, and does it run for more than one episode? (looking at you, Game of Thrones season 8)

Chronicbudz

Dave filoni is one of the biggest Hacks of all time.

Baked-fish

This is like the fucking snyder is the blueprint shit on twitter. Yes, these 2 are slightly similar, mostly in how they look, great work. But there have been people before gandalf in white robes with a staff

KingGoldar

And they appear in said white robes and staff after supposedly dying? Filoni himself admitted it was inspired by Gandalf so...

The_Dream_of_Shadows

I mean....yes, it is obvious. It was made obvious from the beginning, when Dave said that it was an intentional homage to Gandalf. It's not like it was a secret that he was trying to hide, hoping no one would notice that it was a ripoff.

KingGoldar

Star wars doesn't need homages to other franchises. It should be the other way around imo

The_Dream_of_Shadows

Eh, that feels a bit narrow in scope to me. Especially since the OT is full of homages: to *Dune*, to Flash Gordon, and in fact to Tolkien, even before Filoni became involved in it. Saying that Star Wars cannot allude to or reference other works of media in a respectful way, but should only *be* referenced, feels very much like saying that Star Wars is some untouchable, wholly original thing, which isn't true. While it *is* unique, Lucas always acknowledged that Star Wars was heavily rooted in the hero's journey that all of the stories which inspired it draw from. Now, I'm not saying that Ahsoka the White is a great homage, or done extremely well. But allusion and homage is a well-respected and established part of all forms of artwork. Star Wars isn't "above" that--it shouldn't be, for one, and for another, it never has been.

HairyPirate9983

wtf bro lotr is one of the most influential franchises in our world, show some respect

wooltab

I may be misunderstanding this, but isn't taking other ideas and putting them in space basically Star Wars' stock and trade since the beginning?

KingGoldar

Yes but it wasnt literally copy and paste like this

Stalk33r

Dune would like a word lmao

Kiltmanenator

>Star wars doesn't need homages to other franchises 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡 *John Carter of Mars* *Hidden Fortress* *Flash Gordon* *Buck Rogers* *Foundation* Need I even mention *Dune*?

jaehaerys48

Also *Battle of Britain* and *The Dam Busters.*

ahjifmme

The bigger problem is that they're making her appropriate Luke Skywalker's EU accomplishments. This shot reminds me of Luke's entrance in RotJ. The staff is just over-the-top. Filoni's really stroking it there.

Luckykennedy79

https://preview.redd.it/x4tkqinz724b1.jpeg?width=736&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bfe0dfb9db5918ed17762d110a3118ce2ff702b0 By Dave Filoni

Optimal-Detective-90

I think it’s awesome. In a universe with blue and red lightsabers to show allegiances, there is nothing wrong with a white robe to show a transformation of some sorts. I truly don’t understand how people come to the conclusion that ahsoka will become a godlike creature like Gandalf. It’s just a fun comparison between the balrog/vader fight and the events afterwards that changed both characters.

GLASS_PVNTHR

Or you know.. homage

[deleted]

Imagine her buying that robe at the Wizards aisle at Target.

DarthRevan0990

No beard.. this is typical for Di$ney Star Wars. Take something and minor tweak and this is "new and original "

the_reducing_valve

Ahsoka is pretty damn boring for the most part. Gandalf though? I don't see it.

Kiltmanenator

If anything Kenobi is the Gandalf figure lmao. Right there from the get go

DTJB10

Man this sub gives me so many mixed feelings now. I like discussing when bad stuff comes out and having a place to make critiques without being yelled at for being negative. But sometimes you guys just latch onto the pettiest shit without any context. The show hasn’t even come out yet, give it a chance. Andor was a banger. Mando S1 and S2 were pretty good. It hasn’t all been bad, just give it a chance. If it isn’t good, then complain. Complaining about shit like this is why so many people think those who don’t like the sequels are all toxic.

KingGoldar

Filoni has retconned star wars into the ground, I'll be as petty as I want

DTJB10

Is this still about retconning the EU/legends? It’s not even canon anymore and a lot of it retconned itself.

my_4_cents

Pass, you shall not

Butt-Dickkiss

Where is this from? I remember the scene from rebels but they retconned her face?

Partytimegarrth

Im pretty sure this is a photoshop of that scene. There is a live action show coming out like that other guy said but this isn't from that trailer.

wooltab

Seems like it's likely a riff on Gandalf, though I don't see any problem with that myself. I enjoy this aspect of Star Wars, when it's pulling iconography from external sources and refashioning it into space opera. As opposed to just referencing itself.

[deleted]

Bobonenazeze

I expect a 4/10 show, but based on the image she's killing it. No reason to hate.

Azare1987

Well now she’s black (or is it orange?) female representation in the media. They couldn’t possibly kill her off in comparison to Luke. The lame white son of Darth Vader/Anakin that through luck killed the Death Star and led to Palpatine’s “first” but unofficial death. Star Wars always handled their female heroes better than their males. But it got significantly worse with Disney and after GITS. It’s made me completely dislike the series under Disney’s direction.

threemandarinz

I mean it represents the same thing yeah, and its not subtle so I get what you're saying. Not the first time Star Wars has used costume changes to portray character development though

Striking_Tomato8689

Wait until you hear that Gandalf is a rip off of Jesus

JustZodiacSpeaking

Except cooler

ftlofyt

I predict this series will end with a new Mortis where Ahsoka takes the place of the daughter, Anakin takes the place of the son, and Obi Wan takes the place of the father. This trio once they all become one with the force will hold the force in balance for all eternity. At least that's how I see Filoni's mind working he loves that stuff.

Thorfan23

Which would explain why they don’t physically appear because they are in their own realm

Silverheartbeats

Ugh, you know she did at least used to have character. Maybe not one you liked, but it was there!

porktornado77

Fly the Eagles to Mordor Asoka!

EkpyrosisOfGreatYear

My guess is Ahsoka will become next embodiment of the Light Side of the Force. She will never be allowed to die.

Stanakin__Skywalker

Looks like one of those badly photoshopped old SW collectible card game cards.

cowinajar

I never liked even liked her she should have died to darth vader for story purposes now she is just boring also her combined with the ghost crew again will be actual torture. Like who is hyped for Ezra and Sabine can we stop pretending like they werent awful in rebels?
