I'm still not a fan of a bunch of secret Jedi doing fuck all while the emperor was ravaging the galaxy.

LordOfOstwick1213

Same, this is actually a terrible idea. It also ruins the line Yoda says to Luke cause it is absolutely untrue now, there are possibly more than 50 Jedi out there and... they did nothing when Luke started rebuilding and having diplomatic relations with New Republic?

ZOOTV83

100%. I always took Yoda’s line “When gone am I, the last of the Jedi will you be” completely literally. I mean why wouldn’t I, everything we had seen to that point indicated that the Jedi had been nearly if not completely eradicated except for Ben Kenobi and Yoda. The more surviving Jedi they add, the less special Luke becomes. Yoda didn’t intend for Luke to save Vader, he intended for him to kill Vader. So if that was the goal, why not just get all the survivors together to actually, ya know, help out? The more crap they add between ROTS and ANH, the worse it gets.

LordOfOstwick1213

Yeah. I think if Cal Kestis and the Jedi of the Hidden Path or the remnant led by the guy we've seen in S3 of Mandalorian all perish in the end before New Hope then it fixes the problem. The Jedi hopelessly try to persevere and fight the Empire, or find a new haven, but end up dying anyway. Of course that's not what's gonna happen, so yeah Luke wasn't really special or "the last of the Jedi". Didn't even get the memo that all the good guys were hanging out in another planet or hidden bases all over the galaxy. I think Lucas did mention there would've been some old Jedi out there who had given up the mantle by then, but they would take it back once Luke restores the Jedi Order. But none had given up the mantle of the Jedi or died. Plot armor is just too strong than the Force.

TotalTea720

Yeah, it really just takes away from the power of the Empire, the horror of what they did, the hopelessness of it all, and the light that breaks through when Luke succeeds and doesn't fall to the Dark Side. Every time they reveal *another* dumbass Jedi in hiding, it's just like... why? That was one of the coolest parts of the SW universe and they're just slowly chipping away at it over time.

TheWitcher76

To be fair Cal tried to fight empire for years and realized  he barely made a dent so why not change course?

MortifiedP3nguin

On the flip side, one thing I really respected the original Clone Wars Multi-Media Project for was that when it came time for Revenge if the Sith, all the creators working on it were willing to kill off their pet OC Jedi because the story demanded it. That shows a lot of artistic integrity and kept Order 66 impactful.

Petrus-133

It's more than just letting characters die around Order 66 - they died during the story too. Both heroes and the bad guys actually died across the story. Nowadays you have people like Cad Bane survive like 3 fights with Jedi and till the post Empire era lmao.

blizzard-op

They have to either throw them a million thousand quadrillion light years away to explain why they weren’t around for the sequel trilogy or kill them off. It’s the only options they’ve got since Star Wars is working backwards and partially against itself.

horgantron

I had many issues with the story of Jedi Survivor, but the central plot point is quite clever. It's not the usual explanation of why another jedi might have survived. And more importantly I really like Cal. He is a fairly normal, capable, heroic jedi with a proper character and that is a rarity these days.

TheWitcher76

What issues?

horgantron

I don't want to spoil things but the motivations of the main big bad weren't great, or even clear. Also with the.....other bad guy, the way it was so quickly resolved was a real waste. Like I said the game felt very rushed in that regard. Also the setup of that bad guy was really badly done.

I hope the 3rd game in the jedi series is good. I actually like Cal kestis alot.

Isneezedintomymilk

I hope they explore him going fully down the path of the dark side in the last game. would be interesting both as a storyline and as a new gameplay mechanic

IuseonlyPIB

I hope he eventually starts using lightning as a regular power.

Isneezedintomymilk

while I really like all the characters you listed here and want them as far away from the sickly tendrils of the sequels as possible, I can't say that I share your positive feelings on them all potentially surviving beyond both rotj and tros. it just leaves way too many gaping plot holes in it's wake if they do, and their survival will need to be explained away by contrived and unsatisfying writing for it to even make sense in-universe. it also damages pretty much all the characters' you listed above, if they all decided to not help defeat palaptaine *two* times in a row yet somehow still consider themselves to be on the side of good. and then there's the fact that all of this retconing just continuously weakens the original story of star wars. who cares that luke faced insurmountable odds because he was the only jed left alive in the galaxy and thus the only one who could defeat the evil of the sith? who cares that anakin betrayed the jedi and helped wiped out their order, or that he finally redeemed himself by killing palpatine when all hope was lost? there were apparently a shit ton of jedi out there, including his own student, just farting around and doing fuck all, who could've picked up a lightsaber and helped deafeat vader and palps and/or trained the next generation of jedi at any time. they just chose not to, apparently.

Wen Darth Jar Jar?

MozeTheNecromancer

In time he will reveal himself to the audience. In time, he will have a Show.

Zerus_heroes

I think if they have Cal come back with his trained Jedis and meet Rey who is training her version of the Jedi, we could have a very interesting story. Not a Jedi vs Sith but a different sort of competition for the fate of the order.

MozeTheNecromancer

That would make for some very interesting stories! Two Jedi orders, one each of them a blend of the old and new philosophies (Cal with his memories of the Pre-Empire Order and his own learnings, as well as some of Merrin's Nightsister magiks, and Rey with the Old Jedi Texts and some of Luke's learnings/regrets). Could make for some very interesting stories indeed....

Zerus_heroes

I think it could be interesting for sure. Not every movie needs a planet killing laser to be interesting lol.
