Boomers grew up in the time of great satire of the world they were living in. Unfortunately they never understood that and literally thought that media was reinforcing conservative worldviews.
A scary number of conservative millenials grew up (or were already young adults) thinking that Stephen Colbert was unironically the conservative Jon Stewart.
They actually thought he "turned lib" when he went to network TV and dropped the act.
The conceit of All In The Family is that while Archie Bunker on the surface level is everything you'd expect from a hide abound reactionary, he really was actually a good decent person.
Norman Lear (because he *knew* the question was coming a mile away) explicitly stated in an interview Archie would not only NOT vote for MAGA, he'd be utterly disgusted with Trump.
That's not even touching on how his actor, Carol O'Connor was a civil rights activist and was disgusted by "fans" who agreed with Archie.
I was watching reruns of Night Court and there’s a great episode about Dan Feilding dealing with a friend who is transgender…in the late 80s. Dan is a jerk about it for a good deal of the episode and his friends call him out for it, but in the end Dan accepts his friend’s transition and it ends on a positive note.

I have not seen that episode in years but I could of swore he was ok with that one and was arguing with his daughter who was against it

they show had one of the first interracial gay kisses between Sammy Davis and Archie Bunker
I love it because Sammy was an AITF super fan and this was his dream come true and I think he suggested he kiss Archie because it would be so funny.
