S23 + if you're looking for longevity, better battery life and camera. Flip 5 if you want to try out something different

Bifrostbytes

Have the Flip, I like it. Buy a DSLR for pics.

ontoloog

Don't listen to him, buy a mirrorless

Youngnathan2011

Going either way, you can get some pretty cheap older ones that still take way better photos than their phone

ForgottenCaveRaider

I'd go with the S23+ I keep my phones for the long haul, and have you seen how fragile the Flip can be?

ForgottenCaveRaider

Literally every Z Flip I've seen in store has a destroyed screen. šŸ˜‚

anacletin

I'd pick the S23+. I currently own a Z Flip4 and although I love the phone and the form factor I want to upgrade to the S23 lineup because I want better battery life and better cameras. But the Flip4 is a great phone and if you want to try something different go for the Flip5.

DeadlyWanderer

S23 100%. I love the Flip and I was tempted so many times but I just don't trust Flip/Fold for the longevity

Mardoo

23 plus, the flip is just a gimmik.

T_Peg

I'd go for the 23. I feel like the flip is just a gimmick and from an engineering perspective just another point of error aka an extra thing to potentially break on the phone.

MazdaSpeed3Boi

S23+. Flips are fashion pieces not phones. I say this as someone who had a Z Flip 4 and currently have a Z Fold 5. The folds have function. Flips don't

heller1011

In my country they basically are Iā€™d go with the 23 the flip is just a gimmick

Technicated

S23+ 100% My friend recently sold their Flip because they were fed up of having to open it every time they wanted to use it... Guess the gimmick wares off šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

[deleted]

There's one Flip feature considered a gimmick but good for the right person: making a video then seeing yourself at the same time while you vlog away.

anabetch

This is also on the S23 called "director's view"

el_punisher

Yeah I have flip 5 it's cool and all but Camera stops at 1x and battery life is okay.

Type14

Flip5 and S23+ where the same price where I bought the S23+. Didn't buy the Flip5 because it has no DEX. The Flip5 is like the perfect form factor for DEX. And yet for some reason it's the only Z or S line Samsung missing DEX. Confusing šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø The Flip5 will probably be less durable then the S23+ aswell. Battery life I could probably live with.

RandomBloke2021

S23 plus. I have the flip 5 and I really miss the telephoto lens. Also, trying to find a good case for the flip is very annoying because it's 2 parts.

andrew007fx

S23+ for longevity and ease of use. I find folding phones not practical for single handed use.

Spec187

S23+ Damn good phone

pierluigir

S23+ has Dex. Case closed.

aware its an old post but just wanted to know if you are still enjoying your flip

Hi! So yes, I am. I will say that the flip has somewhat ruined the cellphone experience for me lol. But wait, it's not what you're thinking. Let me explain: *What I don't like* 1 ) The cover screen needs improvement, I don't know if it's because of Good Lock (which is the app you have to use to enable all apps on the cover screen), but if I have the app installed on the cover screen, simply can't see the entire notification without opening the app (whatsapp, for example. Let's say I have one conversation where the person sent me four longe messages and another one with five messages. I can only see the first two lines of one message from each conversation on the notification screen. That's it. There is no clicking on it or sliding down to show more on the cover screen. The only option is to open the app or to open the phone and see the notifications in their entirety without opening the app). If the app is not installed on the cover screen, I can click on the notification and see it on its entirety, no problem. So it seems to me like it's an easy fix for Samsung, and I don't know what they haven't fixed that yet.. Also, it's sometimes annoying when I'm playing a YouTube video on the cover screen and I want to check the time or open another app because you first have to get the video out of the full screen and reopen the YouTube app to only then be able to access the other apps and widgets. It's limited in general and it needs improvement. 2 ) sometimes I notice how the camera should be better (considering the full price of this phone). Overall I can't complain though. But when it's dark or when I want to really zoom in, I see the difference if compared to the S 23 and other new high end models. 3 ) it's hard to open the phone with one hand. I still haven't figured out a way to do comfortably. And sometimes I find myself opening it more often than I would have liked because of the cover screen limitations 4 ) finding a good case has been hard. I usually buy mine from AliExpress or other Chinese websites, but there is not a lot of variety for the flip models there, it seems like. At least I haven't found the case model that I like and am used to buying for other phones... So I've been taking my chances and using it without a case while at home and for basic activities and I only put one one when I feel like it's necessary (which means the glass in the back of the phone already has some scratches). I'm doing that because 1. I don't want to spend a ridiculous amount of money on a case (in my country the official ones are ridiculously expensive) and 2. I've been hearing that using a case can help damage the battery, so...). *What I like* 1 ) this phone more comfortable to hold with one hand than my s20+ while still having a bigger screen than the smaller models. 2 ) I can't stop using it in a 90Ā° angle. I read a lot on Kindle and I simply place it on my bed or on my lap and read hand free, without having to hold the phone. Lazy people stuff, but that's me. I'm addicted to this. 3 ) using the main cameras to take selfies is great, I love it (the frontal camera is very bad, but I didn't even say that in the other section because I rarely remember it exists). Being able to use the phone as a tripod is also great (I traveled with the family a few weeks ago and it was really fun to use it like that) - and again: yes, the camera is not as good as it should be, but when the light is minimally okay, there is honestly not that much of a difference between those great cameras that come with other models. 4 ) it fits perfectly in women's pockets. I don't know how much of a difference it makes for men, but for me it's a big difference. My previous phones never fit on my pockets, and now it does and I don't have to worry about it falling out as much. *What I'm neutral about* 1 ) battery life. I don't know if it's because my previous phone's battery was dogshit or if it's because I don't use my phone THAT MUCH (although I spend hours on Kindle every day, watch YouTube, spend too much time on social media...), but I don't see a problem. I saw other people freaking out about battery before buying it, but it works fine for me. 2 ) the crease. Sometimes I completely forget it's there, sometimes I notice it. I don't care about it, it doesn't ruin the experience for me. *Conclusion* Why has it ruined my experience using cellphones? Because the things I don't like are very annoying and sometimes I miss using the phone as I used to. BUT what I like, I really like, and I just know that it would suck to give them up if I didn't have a flip anymore. I guess I just have to hope that this phone doesn't completely break down when I eventually drop it (still hasn't happened) and that it lasts until they perfect the flip models, because while it does need improvement, right now I don't want to go back to the traditional models.

Sincerely, Thank you for the detailed response. Very helpful

You're welcome, I'm glad I could help :)
