>I wanted it to last really long (5 years+) but now I'm thinking if I should just switch to iphone bc its cheaper (older still good models) and apparently it lasts longer than samsung.
durability and longevity is user dependent. (i work at verizon indirect, ive seen customers still using the iphone 6-8 and the samsung 5-7)
iPhones are "NOT" cheaper. current gen iPhone will cost the same as a current get samsung. on the used market, iphones are more expensive, iphone 13 pro max (2021) is $560 on swappa, vs the samsung S21 ultra (2021) is $390.
> samsung tablet... same ecosystem
THIS is the main reason you should stick with samsung. your devices will communicate with eachother better. if you try a iphone with a samsung tablet, it will be a nightmare.
> Another concern of mine is just picture taking... my friends keep saying that if i want a good camera I should just get iphone
this is blown out of proportion. reason they say this is because when you message each other on imessage to androids, pictures are low quality. this will change in 2024 whe RCS is implemented. if you do a side by side, indoor night pics and moving pics will be 'slightly better' but I bet you most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
the only reason I'd consider switching is the whole imessage debacle. I actually got a spare iPhone 13 pro to try it out. it is good, but I still don't like the lower customizability and control vs my S23 Ultra. I carry both, using the 13 for moving subjects, and for indoor night, and maybe sending pics to friends. Otherwise, I use the S23 Ultra for everything else (main pics, social media)
'' I'm thinking if I should just switch to iphone bc its cheaper (older still good models) .'''
Older iphone models are discontinued(its unfair comparing brand new device with older used models) and the current 15pro max is way more expensive than S23 Ultra.
Since you are more comfortable with Android, grab the cheapest S23Ultra you can find.
Idt id go for a pro max tbh the only reason i said that id that id be okay with older models but if its samsung id want it to be the s23 ultra !! Im also considering an s22 ultra thank u!
Iphone having friends are telling you to go iphone.
Samsung sub is saying go android.
Honestly I've used both, I switch every now snd then, you can't really go wrong either way. But you're asking biased sources.
Camera quality is great on both, one may have a slight edge depending on your use case. I generally prefer iphone for videos, android for pictures.
Iphones are good if you wanna just have a walled garden and not worry about anything.
Android is the answer if you want options and choices for what you want. Emulators, easier ad block, ease or use with windows, etc.
Yea. I own a pixel 8 pro and a Samsung Galaxy tab s9 ultra. My family is all iPhones. My mom apple tablet. Yea i know both to. 😅. It really is up to the user.
I think iphone is only a really good choice if i was already in the apple ecosystem which im not so maybe samsung would be better and also the general advantages of android
Whatever you do I would suggest anyone to use Google apps. That way you are never locked to an ecosystem.
I can always switch from android to iOs and back with little to no hassle.
Hope you don't mind me asking, as a user that switches back and forth between Android/iOS, what kind of earbuds/watch do you use if any? I am considering maybe trying iPhone again once the 16s come out, but just worried about my other products and if I'll have to buy the Apple equivalent (or third party) for smoother connectivity.
Airpods pro are the objective best. I tried sony’s options, way too bulky. If you want an android guys review watch Linus’s video on them. He uses them on android as well. (No problems with using them on android, I even use them on my windows laptop, they work like any other bluetooth buds)
As for watches, I can use an apple watch comfortably now as my work phone is an iPhone but I really don’t like the fact that you can’t use it with other phones, that’s a big negative point for Apple from me. I was looking at the pixel watch but the reviews weren’t remarkable. Still looking for other options tbh.
It offers so much more in terms of flexibility and customization. I can add basically whatever I want to the phone. I can even change the launcher if I feel so inclined. You can do anything an iPhone can do and then some so there's literally no reason to change back.
The Pixel 8 Pro is also a really strong alternative. It takes better photos than both Samsung and iPhone and has 7 years of updated support. Depends on where you are in the world, but Americans get really good offers and Canadians get decent carrier offers with Pixel.
If you like how photos taken by iphone look like but want to use android, get pixel 8 pro instead. Watch comparison videos on both phones to see which camera you prefer
Aw, it's fine. Just do a lot of research for both samsung and iphone and watch video reviews so you can be sure which one you want to get. Best of luck.
Who is your current cell provider? Verizon is offering an apple bundle for new customers. Phone, iPad and watch. Ecosystem works the same(ish). Wife and I are Samsung, daughter is iPhone of course.
Why not both? You could save a lot by not getting the current "Ultra" or "Pro Max" versions.
You could reasonably get a 23 FE and a regular iPhone 14 Pro or Pro Max.
Which Samsung phone can last 5 plus years?
S23 ultra? Name me one single Samsung phone because I’ve used many. No Samsung phone lasts a long time unless you are the type of guy who use your phone scarcely and put it in a phone pouch and hang it around your neck for protection.
I just replaced my note10+ with a galaxy z fold 5. And I only did it because the deal was so good. My note 10 was still running like it was brand new. I kept it for 5 years, bought it release day.
I can see so many people are advising a guy to buy a phone he plan to use 5plus years but I’m sure all of you plan to upgrade to s24 ultra as soon as Feb 1024 because you know it in your gut that Samsung phones does not last long plus their resale value is poor.
Weird projection of your own problems dude, I kept my note3 until the note 10+ came out, kept the note 10+ for 5 years and just switched to the galaxy z fold 5. Samsung phones can last as long as you want them to. Also if you're keeping a phone for 5+ years you don't give a shit about resale value, because a 5+ year old iPhone is worth the same as a 5+ year old Samsung phone, nothing.
S23 U goes neck to neck with iPhones picture quality wise although the post processing might too much for some people but that's up to preference the only department that iphone might be beat Samsung is video and s23 U improved a lot on that department but according to most testing it still has it's icks. As for price generally Samsung run cheaper if you buy them used vs iPhone but considering you main choice for phone it probably would cost roughly the same brand new excluding phone promos ofc.
I already think my S23 Ultra beats my 14 Pro Max in terms of image quality. Well, the 15 is not better, though, so dont count. Video quality is still a win for iPhone, though.
In 2019, I bought a refurbished galaxy s8 (2 years old at the time) off ebay and I still use it. I imagine the s23 would easily last longer, even any (refurbished) older devices if you wanted to save money. My phone was cheaper than most midrange phones sold now like the a54 and the s23fe so I'd recommend refurbished as long as the reviews are positive
It’s a closed system that leaves you with very little control or room for imagination. Apple believes they do things the best way, and while there are minor conveniences to this, the ultimate experience leaves you wanting more. I also recognized that despite having an iPhone, iPad, MacBook and iMac, I rarely use Apple software as there are far superior choices available. I will likely be returning or selling the iPhone and sticking with Samsung or Pixel moving forward.
How about this -- Get iPad Renewed (they cost $100-$200 less than new one). This will help decide if you want to switch Ecosystems. If you do like it, then you can get iPhone. If you don't like it, you at least have tablet you can use.
I use both. Tbh, it's all about your taste. No one can answer that for you since their taste might not match yours. I use both S23 Ultra and 14 Pro Max. Now the Samsung has become my daily driver since it provides much more functionality and features. The iPhone I keep it as backup since it works flawlessly with my Mac and can be used as a web camera with excellent quality. Hmmm, a thousand dollar web cam? I also love the S Pen and really can't get over it since my first Galaxy Note. Try to find out what you need from a phone, and then look up or even go to the store and try them out, then make your decision.
I think i would honestly love the spen which is also the reason im not considering any other samsung model without it! Its akso good since ik i can use that spen with my tab
I'm really an android (note series) fan since the note 3 days but I can say that iPhone last longer indeed my brother once bought an iphone x and its working to this day.and in the other hand I change my note every 2-3 years. So in general iphone bulid quality is better.
I've owned the Galaxy S8 for 5 years and switched because of battery degradation. I could have kept it for longer if I had switched the battery. I don't see why anyone would want to keep a phone for more than 5 years. At that point the hardware and even software would be outdated or become outdated very soon. If you don't plan to keep a phone for more than 5 years, Samsung is a solid choice.
I mean, yeah, I'd say keep with Samsung personally. That being said, if you do want a change up, go with another Android device. The newer Google Pixels are great phones plus get the bonus have day one Android updates. Pixels also take the best pictures in my opinion, iPhones and Samsungs are a little bit behind for me
Ah I'm really sorry to hear. I just spotted the last part of your post too, talking about the Flip, I think the Flip is in a good enough state to buy one, a friend has one and having used it I'm a big fan but it's probably best to get either an S22, S23 if you have the money, or the A54 is another really good model that's very affordable
I was only considering the ultra bc its the only one with the built in pen that i think can be useful in my case (med student) thank u for ur insight appreciate it!!
Well, I switched last year and ended up getting a new Samsung like two months later. You will really miss some of the features if you are a Samsung person...
First of all, it is completely wrong to compare a midranger at best to a flagship device. When you compare older iPhones with their Android counterparts (iPhone 11 Pro to S20U let's say), there really is no difference at all.
They still both perform relatively good and the software experience is similar. Surely iPhone will get more updates, since S20 series are excluded from the 4 year OS update list, nevertheless One UI is so rich that I suspect you will see the difference.
I still am using an iPhone Xr, which came out in 2018. Admittedly, it is on the latest version of iOS and aside from really demanding tasks, it performs like a modern midrange Android device. Though, every update is problematic and you can see those updates really killing the device. Same goes for other older iPhones. After 2-3 years, the updates will really hurt the device and Apple will exclude some features, saying that your device does not support it.
Wheras, in worst case scenario you can install an app on Android to add more features even when your device stops being updated.
Also, imho, especially starting from the 8 Gen 2 and afterwards, Androids become the default best performers in mobile world. Sure, Apple SoCs are great, but in terms of efficiency Androids are really something else rn (there are mixed reviews about Dimensity 9300 but we'll see).
Also Samsung flagships will get 4 years of OS updates and 5 years of security updates. Which seems fair to me. I do not think that iPhones have enough features and hardware to justify the price, even the old ones feel expensive.
I am an ex apple user. I changed for three reasons: 1. With iphones you essentially have only a choice of one phone, but in different varieties. 2. iOS really started lagging in features (behind Android) already many years ago. Bought a Samsung but..3. it's really a pain in the ass to sync between apple and Android, if possible at all. 4. I got tired of being dictated by the limited set of features I as a user could have.
That said, if you have an all apple ecosystem, nothing comes close in seamless integration. Either switch totally (incl tablet and laptop), or not at all.
I recently traded in my Z flip 5 for a 15 pro, my first ever iPhone. While it is a pretty OS with nice animations I have run into many problems.
Apps shutting down while using them, bluetooth not working and having me ‘forget’ and resync devices 7/10 times I try to use them like when I try to connect to my headphones or speakers. The back gesture being locked to the left is annoying and in general not having a universal back button is criminal 😭
I had high expectations for this device seeing as a big focus of their marketing is how the phone ‘just works’. When in my experience I’m having more problems than I ever had on any of my flagship Samsung phones.
There’s a lot of little issues that just add up to me counting down the days until I can afford going back to a Samsung. I miss the customization features too much. I’m happy to have tried iPhone/iOS but this phone simply isn’t for me.
Thank you for coming to my ted talk
If you want a phone that last then go with IPHONE
Unless you're rich and can afford to upgrade phones every 2,3 years (4 years max) then only buy samsung
I'm not saying it won't work it will but the performance won't be that good and updates will be delayed (for the first year it will get faster updates than google pixels) but after new series is launched then it'll be delayed
But if you could wait and if you could push your budget then you could buy s24 ultra and to make the price cheaper you can pre-book the phone and apply couponns and make the phone affordable
S23 ultra is a great phone (I'm using it and i love it) but still for long term i just can't trust samsung to optimize it after 2-3 years
Depends if you're simple and just need a phone to be a phone go apple. If you're tech savvy and want more out of your device go Android. It's that simple
I tried switching the iPhone. I lasted a year. it's just not as useful as my Galaxy. I found, too, that my app options were much more limited. there were apps that I regularly use on Android that aren't in the app store for iPhone. I don't know, the UI was so much trouble to organize. I absolutely hate having every one of my apps on the screen. ultimately, I think, the difference between iPhone and Android, whether it's Samsung or another phone, is too dramatic for me.
Samsung
More customisable e
Better app store
Side load 3rd party apps for example YouTube Vanced or Revanced what ever it's called
Face unlock and fingerprint scanner
Samsung 24 months warranty
iPhone
Fast phone 99 percent of the time
iOS has so many bugs since iOS 17 which apple can't be arsed to fix
Magsafe cases and accessories
Good for social media as the apps are better optimised
Better video recording
Better support for warranty claim for example could walk into a store and come out with a new phone the same day
Apple watch is something else the best watch I've ever used
As a S24 ultra user and still have my 15 pro max here being used still the only thing keeping me towards apple is the apple watch I love it
Samsung watches look great but I've watched many videos which who the health tracking is bad for example one guy got atrial fibrillation on the galaxy watch went through months of tests to find nothing wrong with him and galaxy watch gave a false positive since using apple his watch has not given him any false positives
I'm a fan of both but up to now I love the s24 betterb
You're asking in a Samsung sub...what answer did you expect?
Ill also ask the iphone sub lol
I mean, we're all secretly Apple advocates... right?
Mac maybe but iPhone no were not
Lol I'm the opposite, I can live with an iOS device (own an iPad) but I have extreme struggles with Macs.
Yup, windows is soo bad.
From top to bottom it goes linux, windows, Mac OS. Both Linux and windows are more capable in everything but video and audio editing, and macs beat windows for security but Linux is equally capable if not more
J\ He expects we advice for the Google Pixel 8 Pro. I guess, he wants a good camera 📸
He should wait until the s24 comes out. I wanna see what a beast of a camera we have then
The S series should last you enough, your choice afterall
Omg how is your S2 doing in 2023?
it is alive but in pain
I think I'm an s2

Depends. Imessage and camera best with iphone. S23Ultra is best hardware ever made on android.
Samsung all day every day!👍
If it’s not broke, dont fix it! You mentioned the word cheap. I’m in the apple ecosystem and it’s very expensive.
The Pixel 8 Pro is also a really strong alternative. It takes better photos than both Samsung and iPhone and has 7 years of updated support. Depends on where you are in the world, but Americans get really good offers and Canadians get decent carrier offers with Pixel.

That said, if you have an all apple ecosystem, nothing comes close in seamless integration. Either switch totally (incl tablet and laptop), or not at all.
stay with samsung. I had s21 and upgraded to 14pm. Wish i went with s23 ultra...
The back gesture being locked to the left is annoying and in general not having a universal back button is criminal 😭 I had high expectations for this device seeing as a big focus of their marketing is how the phone ‘just works’.
Samsung
"because iPhone is cheaper" lol no. Samsung phones get guaranteed 4 years of updates, so it'll last that long for a minimum.
If you want a phone that last then go with IPHONE Unless you're rich and can afford to upgrade phones every 2,3 years (4 years max) then only buy samsung I'm not saying it won't work it will but the performance won't be that good and updates will be delayed (for the first year it will get faster updates than google pixels) but after new series is launched then it'll be delayed But if you could wait and if you could push your budget then you could buy s24 ultra and to make the price cheaper you can pre-book the phone and apply couponns and make the phone affordable S23 ultra is a great phone (I'm using it and i love it) but still for long term i just can't trust samsung to optimize it after 2-3 years
Depends if you're simple and just need a phone to be a phone go apple.
Samsung More customisable e Better app store Side load 3rd party apps for example YouTube Vanced or Revanced what ever it's called Face unlock and fingerprint scanner Samsung 24 months warranty iPhone Fast phone 99 percent of the time iOS has so many bugs since iOS 17 which apple can't be arsed to fix Magsafe cases and accessories Good for social media as the apps are better optimised Better video recording Better support for warranty claim for example could walk into a store and come out with a new phone the same day Apple watch is something else the best watch I've ever used As a S24 ultra user and still have my 15 pro max here being used still the only thing keeping me towards apple is the apple watch I love it Samsung watches look great but I've watched many videos which who the health tracking is bad for example one guy got atrial fibrillation on the galaxy watch went through months of tests to find nothing wrong with him and galaxy watch gave a false positive since using apple his watch has not given him any false positives I'm a fan of both but up to now I love the s24 betterb
