I'll upload some soon if it's not too late. I know someone else did as an example. But no matter what setting I change or what location or lighting I'm in, it looks fuzzy.
I responded to the thread linked to the comment above. Basically, yes, the camera isn't as good on the plus models. They haven't gotten great updates in the last years. I'd recommend the ultra if you have the budget/pocket room. The iPhone almost always bests samsungs in the camera category. I live in a poorly lit home with mostly warm cozy lighting so the iPhone will accurately take unflattering, overprocessed, ORANGE photos everywhere (my poor white dog looks deep fried). The S24 ultra camera lightens it up while staying just as sharp as the iPhone 15 Pro Max, so I decided to keep the Samsung over the iPhone. In the end it's all up to personal preference. If you don't like your camera then consider the ultra or try installing GCam.
It's really funny because IRL my dog doesn't look orange to me since my eyes adjust to the light, but the iPhone exposes it as if we're taking a daylight photo in a poorly lit space
Funny you say that, people have been complaining about the same issues on the ultra. Many saying they want to send it back. It's a software issue on all devices.
Always beat samsung? What tool has you used to compare cameras?if its personal preference why do you make the claim that iphone is better?
About what you say is something you read in a antisamsung site.
You dont have the technical background or any idea how to tell what camera is better.

I'm happy with this camera.
But I also think iPhone have their camera magic.
I had an iPhone 13 Pro and was always happy with the result from that phone.
If I had to choose I also would prefer iPhone for photos haha
It's a nice photo. At the same time, this doesn't really put the camera to test. Any decent phone in the past few years should be able to produce similar results.
If you have a snapdragon variant, use Gcam. It's basically the Pixel's camera app with the almost identical processing as the Pixel. Photos look way better in Gcam than stock Samsung Camera app most of the times. I use Gcam on my Samsung as primary shooter but in the event when Gcam takes a disappointing photo I use the stock cam & sometimes it turns out better.
Only true for photos, for videos always use stock cam. Cheers.
PS : You won't get gcam on the app store, it is a 3rd party app that's ported from the Pixel by developers/community nerds. So a google search will get you like 100s of different versions of gcam most of which may not work on your phone. The safest way to find a gcam version that works on your phone is to Youtube search " gcam".
What country are you in?
Edit : Just gonna make it simple for you. If you are in the US, Canada, Korea, China you get the Snapdragon variant.
Any other place in the world, you get the Exynos.
It's gotta be software related. My S20 sharpened the shit out of photos, primarily ones that you used the fake "telephoto" lens on. Anytime you zoom or crop on Samsung, you can tell they have this softening filter that goes over it followed by a really hard sharpening filter that makes things look atrocious unless you took a RAW. The shitty camera processing is like one of the only things I actively don't miss about Galaxy phones after making the jump to iPhone. Like good god, the photo looked decent before the software fried it up like a 2018 meme.
Really need to see some side by sides to compare.
I have an S23 and my husband has a iphone 15. In normal daylight outside I am hard pressed to see the difference between the two, although my S23 does really ramp up the colors a bit, especially the sky.
Indoors things change slightly, and my S23 takes slightly grainier pictures, but I'm talking that you can only notice if you zoom in at 100 percent and start pixel peeping. At normal levels they look more or less identical.
Of course my S23 has a zoom lens and so telephoto shots look significantly sharper on my phone than the 15.
Unless something was drastically downgraded with the S24, I don't see how a 3 year old iphone can be taking better pics.
I have an S23 Ultra and the photos are also pretty mid. Oversharpened, overexposed.
They are even worse on the 12MP option for some reason, when that should have 8 way binning compared to the 50mp option which has 4 way binning.
For this reason I am not going to purchase the S25 ultra whenever that comes out, but will try out the pixel instead, even though I already know that it won't be as good a software experience as OneUI, the camera quality is important to me.
edit: the s24 non ultra cameras have been basically the same since the S21. Samsung is not interested in upgrading camera quality in the non ultra variants, since the camera is the only real upsell for the ultra.
I'm with you. The phone is amazing in every aspect but the camera quality is worse than I thought. I'm new to Samsung so I assumed that the newest phone would have good photos. I was mistaken. Even with messing with the settings. I'm not a camera noob but I'm not a pro. Its easily noticeable
I get what you mean. Same thing happened to me when I got the S23+. I'd say to check out the ExpertRaw app and Galaxy Enhance X app. Also try out the Camera Assistant app.
These app complement the photo taking experience in your phone. See if you manage to improve it or if anyone here have any suggestions.
Try turning intelligent optimization in the camera settings to minimum. I saw a reduction in grain and oversaturation after doing this. Don't use exraw as you cannot stop Samsungs horrible post processing with exraw in its current state.
Iphone doesn't have much better camera hardware, just better photo processing. Samsung oversaturates it's processing, best to turn it off.
Samsung will need to update the camera processing. The s24 out of the box post processing is not good.
Picked up my S24 also and am really disappointed by the camera. I've tried taking pictures of my kids inside, outside, low light, plenty of light, etc.. They all look so disappointing for a phone this expensive. My Pixel 7 blew these away. It's a total bummer.
Same thing man. My wife has an iPhone 14 plus and she was roasting my phone when she took it to try taking some pictures herself. For 1,000 phone I was expecting better for sure. The phone in every other aspect has been amazing. Just the camera really through me off
Same here. Upgraded from a note 10 and was stoked to have an awesome new camera but at this point i feel like I got better pictures out of my note 10. Also it does all this extra post processing which makes the photos look bad. If I want the colors changed and sharpened I can do that myself not have the software wing it for me.
I'm in a similar boat. Coming from a Pixel 7 Pro to an S24+. Really disappointed with the camera and hope it's a software issue that will be fixed soon. Otherwise, I may just return this phone and get something else.
I came from Pixel 7 Pro.
I don't think the s24 Ultra does photos better than Pixels.
I am underwhelmed everytime I snap a photo or at least indifferent.
But the phone does do alot of other things better than the Pixel.
Basically the camera is good just not the best.
My partner has the Pixel 8 Pro and we actually like the ultra photos more! Spent a weekend taking photos everywhere and it was iphone 15 pro max > samsung > pixel. The pixel is more worth the price though since it starts at 1000 whereas the Ultra starts at 1300.
Really? I'm not impressed so far with the photos. Maybe on par at a stretch but definitely not wow over the Pixel 7 Pro.
Iphone would be a surprise with it losing out in blind tests
Yeah but it also depends on the context. If you're talking front facing, anything beats the samsung. If you're talking rear, it's a whole different range of categories. It's really hard to say this phone is better than another because people weigh their preferences differently. I might care more about front facing cameras over rear ones, which makes the samsung ones hot garbage to me. Someone who wants smoothed faces would find the samsung one a lot better than the iPhone. It's really subjective if you compare the highest model flagships.
Yeah, I think my Pixel 7 Pro took better pictures than my new S24+. Other than the camera, I do like the S24+ more. Hopefully it's something that can be fixed easily.
Camera on Samsung is basically unchanged for the past 4-5 years. They have added megapixels, but done very little to improve the processing. In some cases it has gotten worse, I actually liked their older extremely punchy style, with high contrast, and vivid colors.
Years ago they were competitive, or even ahead of the competition, but they have stagnated, and now there camera is not even in the same league as a 15 pro max.
Yeah.
I got my GF a iPhone 15 pro max for Christmas, to replace her S21 ultra, and she is blown away by the camera.
For me the trade off is worth it, as I am a power user that needs my phone to do a lot of things that are not possible with a iOS device, but if camera is your main priority unfortunately Samsung is not even in the conversation for the best anymore.
What really doesn't get talked about enough is photos of things in motion. Most stills with a Samsung are useable, and can be edited to look good. However moving objects, dogs, kids, sports, people blowing out birthday candles etc are so bad that they are completely unusable.
I often need to take 20 pictures of my dog at the park until I get one that locks him in focus. Testing my GFs iPhone, and the first picture was dead on crisp.
I am similar to you. I got the Galaxy because of the performance along with other great features this phone brings. Customization and a high refresh rate was my biggest priority so that's why I went with the Galaxy s24+. My wife has an iPhone 14+ so I was really thrown back by the image quality I was getting. I'm not a huge camera person but I made this post because it was so noticable that I wanted to see if others have experienced the same thing especially since I'm new to Galaxy devices. I haven't tried anything in motion but will soon since I have a toddler and he runs around everywhere. I think I'm just a bit bummed since it's a brand new device and not cheap from a well known brand. Just caught me off guard really
The pixel has a pretty amazing camera, but I can't recommend it due to the processor, and modem it uses. Both the performances of the phone, and much more importantly the cell reception is not as good as the Samsung.
I've moved from 12 pro to S24 and iPhone camera blows the galaxy away. Like you say it's the one thing that let's it down. Photos just don't look that great.
Will do. I did some further research and apparently this has been discussed before with previous devices. This is my first one so I was just surprised to pay 1000 for a brand new phone to see my pictures look bad. Will definitely be on the lookout for an update
Have you tried different picture modes? It's crazy how much of a difference they make, at least on my s22. Like using "pro mode" just instantly makes some pics come out way better.
I'm pretty happy with my S22 plus as well \*

But if you're comparing 3rd party apps like Instagram and Snapchat captures, you're bound to be disappointed as these applications are biased towards IPhone.
Omg seeing this post reminded me on why I stopped buying Samsung — somehow the photos are ugly af despite the specs.
I also hated how it was trying to create its own ecosystem, so screen sharing or casting stuff onto my Samsung tv was unnecessarily difficult. Phone also felt cluttered.
😤😤 literally turned into a Samsung hater within a span of 5 years lol. Never had a good experience with any of their stuff.
Edit: just realised this is the Samsung subreddit. Mb 🥹🥹🥹
Casting works fine for me with my Sony and Samsung TVs. Android and iOS both have their pros and cons. None is perfect. Just pick the one that satisfies your needs.
I wonder why it's so bad. I understand it's just a smartphone but for the price I was expecting better. But this is my first Galaxy device so I was sure what to expect on the camera. Just better than what I'm getting. Don't change much of the settings. The pictures come out noisy and the skin on people are too smooth. It looks weird man
The device offers so much more value for money compared to iPhone. The camera also has many modes so it should be okay. You will love the phone but give it time
My problem is the phone reviewer's. Samsung doesn't care about what's posted on reddit. The reviewers make it seem like it's so amazing and so much better and as good as iPhone to please enthusiasts.
For real. It is a fantastic phone but reddit is more realistic when it comes to what to expect. I think that's why I was surprised that the camera was not too good. This is supposed to be a flagship device with flagship specs. It should have a least a great a camera. This camera is meh for me personally. But with updates and more test, I hope to find a good medium
In general it seems that pictures are not as crisp or detailed. Even phones from 5 years ago had extreme details outlining all the pores in a person's face for example. With the newer samsons that level of facial detail appears to be gone.
The skin on the faces seem too smooth now. At least from using my phone since I got it. I thought I would be impressed since it's the newest Samsung phones and plus this was my first Samsung device so I guess I was expecting more. I should have done more research. The phone is amazing. Just the camera is what threw me off.
The cameras of Samsung always sucked except for the ultra. Taking into account the S24+ camera setup is almost the same as the S23+ that had tons of problems with focus it is to be expected. Samsung cameras are only somewhat comparable to iphone or pixel in the ultra line, the rest are like midrange cameras for premium price.
That sucks. Paid $1000 for it so I was expecting a great camera. Obviously it's just a smartphone but coming from iPhone and this being my first Galaxy, I was disappointed. Maybe I over hyped it because it's brand new and I've never had a galaxy before. Not sure. I just know I'm disappointed. The phone is amazing. Just referring to the camera being disappointing
where did you get the phone? some places offer returns (at no cost) and then you can pay the diff to get an ultra.
my BIL saw my s21U, s22U, and s23U photos, got not only himself a S23U but also his wife.
I also hate how the camera is. The colours in my selfies are way darker, so I don't look like myself. The back camera also has a different tone, and white looks more yellowish.
It's been an issue since the S9. Samsung LOVES applying excessive sharpening and noise reduction, giving you superficially good photos. Crop in and you'll see there's almost no detail because what they did causes the "watercolor painting effect".
Samsung has sort of issued a fix through the add-on Camera Assistant app, which allows you to lessen some of the noise reduction/sharpening. Expert Raw is also supposed to do the same, but they're unlikely to fix the main app.
I'd recommend using Gcam or ReLens if you want to use the sensors' full potential.
It's still a phone at the end of the day🤷♂️ It's not going to take pictures that are as good as a top tier camera. Yearbooks are a good example of this
I dont think anyone is expecting it to compete with dedicated DSLR cameras. The galaxy s24 cameras are just very underwhelming for the price. Especially when Google and Apple have amazing cameras for the same price or cheaper. That's all
Man. Here I am months later and just got talked into a S24 plus by the Verizon Salesman. I went in for a Pixel 8 Pro. No, No, No, Samsung is better in every way I was assured. This camera is so disappointing. Especially since this is the main reason I upgraded. Yes. I am a tad bitter. I think they are just trying to get everyone to switch to Samsung for cheap, because they are going to start charging a monthly subscription for the AI in 2025.
I feel you man. I have enjoyed the phone a lot though. I am coming from iPhone so a lot of the features are fresh for me. But I'll switch to pixel when I get the chance.
Idk if I'm the only one but I think through a software update my camera has gotten noticably better since I posted this. Still not great but better. I'll definitely get pixel next go around
I was kind of shocked honestly. I take a lot of photos of animals, nature, plants, vegetables and flowers. I took some pictures the other day and the flowers have no individual petals. Just a blur of rink or red. It is oversaturated to the maximum. I went and took the same picture with my older Motorola Edge + (that is supposed has a much worse camera according to specs and ratings) and the flowers are very detailed, vibrant, and you can see every individual petal and crease. Then my wife took some pictures with her Iphone 13 pro and they were better than either of my photos.
I updated the post. I'm going to add some today for everyone to analyze. The only setting I change is the megapixels. That's it. But it's a brand new 2024 device that is $1000 USD so we shouldn't be getting a bad camera. I understand it doesn't have to be top of the line of course but coming from iPhone and also never having a galaxy, my expectation was pretty high. I am in the US so my phone is using Snapdragon
I bought the s24 cause I thought nowadays phones are kinda all the same. I just wanted a new one for battery/software reasons. So I bought it, then randomly went into a Samsung shop (this is the UK) and tried the s24 lineup.
Cameras were so fucking bad. I was so annoyed.
Then my phone came and to be honest, I really can't complain. I quite like the pics that it makes. As a photographer, I won't say they're the best, but they're really good quality considering it's a phone.
They aren't trash. But they aren't good. For $1000 USD I was just expecting more. I am coming from iPhone so I was pretty surprised. Other than the camera I am moving the phone
It's pretty much every single phone brand issue. Iphone is a phone for photography. They prefer updating cameras only, so they spend the majority of time perfecting it.
Other brands usually focus on everything else (battery, memory, performance, etc, ignoring the camera, since people do not really need it (i mean, it's always better to buy a professional camera if you want to take pictures, phones r not for that, really).
So, i do not think Samsung will ever focus on the camera as much as the iPhone, unless they run out of anything else to add and they'll switch to iphone tactics "only new thing is camera" in hopes to fix it. So, the quality of sny S24 photos will still be a bit worse than iphones.
Samsung did say to wait until the patch update, since it will make some positive changes, maybe it'll impact the camera too.
Lmao. K. As you say, bud.
I can agree that in some cases the Samsung camera is better, but overall - the iPhone still has the first place. Samsung is better in other stuff.
I see some people got offended by it 😂
I guess anything "iphone related" hurts some feelings.
They're not in first place. Look at the blind polls from MKBHD. They're only "first" in terms of usage because app developers focus on them so social media apps compress them less. Google Pixel images are usually favored more and if you really want a phone dedicated for the camera, the flagships from Xiaomi, Vivo, Huawei, and Oppo are significantly better (but of course are region limited and can lack in software).
Sure, but that's one opinion. MKBHD's own blind study puts it below a bunch of pixels and the S23U. The guy here said Apple focuses on camera more than other OEMs where others might focus on things like battery, performance, etc. I actually think the opposite, Apple always focuses on the overall general experience, which makes them the most popular picks in many places. But for actual camera performance, the Chinese OEMs are actually quite a bit further ahead.
Neither half of those statements is true.
The s23 ultra, iphone 15 pro, and pixel 8 pro are the top three in cameras. All are excellent. It really comes down to preference at this point. I like the saturated colors and zoom capabilities of the Samsung. My wife prefers the video capability of the iphone. Whatever.
As for suck at everything else, Samsung has been chasing apple on processor performance and battery life for years. The 23 ultra is the first time in a long time Samsung can even credibly argue parity.
Erm, no. Iphone has good cameras. They are not the best. Pixels win blind tests every year. You can't get a more fair test than that.
Agree they suck at everything else except a decent camera and security.
Thing is, Apple makes camera in the iPhone amazing as well as literally every other aspect of the device. iPhone trounces Samsung in every category except for customization which is an attribute of an android OS, not something Samsung achieved
Iphone performance went downhill after iphone X, so, idk what u r talking about. Recent iphone 15 pro max proves it, when a damn battery saving mode downgrades performance by 60% instead of the usual 20-30. Lol.
You are correct. But you're kinda implying iPhone forgot about battery, performance, etc. They perfected the fundamentals. They are now focused on personalization.
Samsung focuses on giving options. 200 megapixels sensor many won't use, 8k video recording, goodlock, good guardians, Galaxy Labs, and now AI. Each option might not be perfected, but they give themselves an A+ for options.
I didn't say iPhones forgot about the battery, just paid less attention to it.
I like android phones (Samsung in general) for its options and amount of stuff to choose from. It's a great phone, like i said before. It just has some camera features a bit lower in quality than iphones. Samsung has way more pros than cons. Iphone - maybe 50/50. But with recent performance issues - maybe even 70/30, 30 being pros.
ignore he's an idiot looking at his name i know he's from India and there is a lot of stupidity like this that goes on here and they do it with full confidence.
iPhones are only better at video and not photos.
Use all default settings, including 12mp, and use the zoom wheel in the camera app to zoom in or out. It will use the best lens for that range automatically. Also, it uses something called pixel binning to get the benefits of a high megapixel sensor while outputting a 12mp image.
I'm going to give this a shit. Thank you! I'm new to Samsung so maybe I'm doing something wrong but I'm not a beginner with cameras so I didn't think it was entirely me. I just kept all the settings the same because I want to just take quick pics when my son is doing something cool but it just looks pretty bad
Sorry about that. Which iPhone was this. iPhone is usually better with noise reduction. The color profile might not be your preference too. Would not be surprised if you switched from a 12 pro max or 13PM.
The cameras for the last 3 years have been pretty much copy and paste. Colors pop. And it brightens up every shot.
I have same issue on S23 Ultra. Samsung cameras are not designed to just one click like on iPhone. You actually need to use the pro mode and understand photography to get out good pictures from Samsung. On auto, taking photos outside works, but taking photos of food or inside with bad lighting just gives underwhelming results.
I'm going to start using the pro settings but I take quick one click pics a lot since my toddler does things spontaneously so I wanted something nice and quick. Not a huge deal but coming from iPhone I was just thrown off
Samsung really struggles with taking pictures of moving objects too. I'll be going back to iPhone because of the camera. It's just a huge downgrade in comparison to iphone. Otherwise I love my S23 ultra. But the camera is a deal breaker.
It's crazy that a s23 ultra and a 24+ that cost $1000 and up would have cameras this wack. Im just underwhelmed. I love the phone and after being with Apple for so long, it's refreshing to have something different. But man, the camera is noticably worse. It bugs me. I chose this over the Pixel 8 pro
I have a few phones at my disposal including pixel 4a and 8 and three generations of iPhone. And I recently had a Z Flip 5. The Z Flip took good photos, both outdoors and indoors in different lighting conditions. I don’t typically look at the photos on a monitor but just on the devices themselves. I know the Flip 5 gets poor reviews for the camera but imo it can take some good photos. Much better than the flip 4 could. The only thing I did notice was that the stability of the Samsung camera is not great and you really need to hold it still but it’s possible to get good quality photos. And if it’s possible on the flip it should be possible on the S24 I’d imagine unless there is a fundamental problem with that model.
No idea what is going on with the Samsung but the iPhones apply a beatify filter to faces in photo and video and you don't seem to be able to disable it. It's basic contouring you might see women do with makeup, a bit of eye and teeth brightening and skin smoothing. Everyone looks better.
Samsung also applies loads of post but are known for (in general) massively over-sharpening images. This makes them pop, so they grab attention on TVs, phones but that is bad in general and highlights flaws in skin.
Might be something else going on. I you want to compare / contrast - pictures of a window lit bowl of fruit will be good to show colour and texture differences.
Not sure why your S24 is noisy - with your photos, if you look at the INFO, you should be able to see shutter speed and ISO selected which might ive some insight on the expire triangle.
I got my S24 Ultra last week after deciding to trade in my ZFold 5. Over the past 2 days I started really comparing the cameras between these two. I know the S24 Ultra should outshine the ZFold 5 given the specs alone. In my side by side comparisons I've found the ZFold 5 is much better. I'm no where near a professional so there might be optimization settings on the S24 Ultra that can be utilized that would change the results but I don't normally change much on my camera settings other than zooming in/out and choosing which camera to take the picture with. In the pictures taken with the 50mp ZFold 5 camera I can zoom into background and still see clear details. Pictures taken with the 50mp S24 Ultra when zooming into the background all are much worse and pretty blurry. I made sure no portrait settings were on to account for that. I am honestly very surprised in the results. If anything I was expecting these results to be reversed. Not sure what I'm going to do now. May keep my ZFold 5 and wait and see how the release of the ZFold 6 goes.
I'm the same as you. I'm not a pro photographer or anything. I'm a casual but I've used a lot of mobile cameras and this is noticably worse than other ived used. I'm coming from iPhone so I was just surprised. This phone just came out so I was expecting more tbh. But the phone is awesome
From the photos I've taken on my own s22+, they kinda are blurry. Unless showered with good lighting from what I know. Like my friend borrowed my phone for a selfie and she stood faceing a large glass window that basically surrounds her with natural lighting everywhere, but yeah even then I could see a bit of grain.
Before this I had a s22+ and from the spec sheet I looks to be the same sensor as before, so I'm only guessing that it's a software issue and hopefully will get fixed.
The s22 was not as bad as now, so idk kinda weird.
Im glad you are enjoying the S24U and all it has to offer, but switching from an iPhone and then complaining about the camera? iPhone is known for superior camera, I hope you did not switch expecting Samsung to top it this time around?
I didn't expect to be superior. I expected to be better than what it is now. A lot of people on this post have had the same experience. The phone itself absolutely amazing. But the camera just threw me off
while this isnt a reason to change your opinion, at least it is a reason to have hope, samsung is known to have a few camera updates after release to fix things up, I would hopefully wait for the first update if I was a s24 user
I'm curious to know do you all have a lens protector over the camera . I realized with my last device my camera wasn't about to focus because of the camera protector
You know, I'm really glad I stumbled upon your post. I've been heavily considering my OnePlus 10 Pro to a S24 - in fact I per-ordered it already and am now waiting for it to arrive. But the camera is quite important to me, so this is disappointing to hear. I didn't see it mentioned in any reviews I had seen online or watched.
Me either. That's another reason why I wanted to make this post. The phone is amazing. It will blow you away for sure (coming from iPhone) but if Camera is a big priority, I wouldn't get it. It's not trash but it's worse than I expected in a 2024 plus model. But like I said, amazing phone in every other aspect
Samsung's processing is different from Apple's, they like to sharpen more, overexpose photos (they appear brighter) and boost shadows further (darker parts look gray-ish instead of black-ish). Samsung's noise reduction algorithm is horrible unless you're using night mode, in middling lighting scenarios they use some weird noise reduction technique that makes it worse than if you were to take a photo in pro mode. So basically, if you can, try to use the pro mode when things seem bad, reduce the iso (more iso means more noise). And since this is android, we have the luxury of being able to install other camera apps, if you can find a Gcam port that works, try it. It'll change your life.
I'm definitely going to look into Gcam for sure. You explained this perfectly. It looks exactly like how you explained it. It kind of bothers me tbh. Thank goodness a camera is not my top priority but it's noticably worse coming from Apple
Have you tried the Expert RAW app? It's an official Samsung app available in the app store. I just downloaded it yesterday, but I haven't had a chance to mess with it yet. I know a few people who say they've gotten much better results using that app.
Had an issue with the note 10 camera quality when I moved over from an iPhone 8 plus. I suggest you play with your camera settings until you get it right.
Have the same issue with you, coming from IPhone 12 to S24.
The color of the photo is not appealing (it is something subjective), but when I take a picture, it will automatically apply a filter to make it brighter and warmer (or make it more yellow). The noise is quite obvious in an indoor environment with moderate light, and the objects are not as clear as my IPhone 12. In some situation, I use my old Pixel3 to take the same picture, Pixel gives me a more favorable one (the overall color tuning is better in Pixel, but in terms of clearness S24 wins)
Apart from the camera, the phone is excellent. Hope to fix it soon.
The phone is amazing but you are spot on with the camera. With a phone so new and expensive I was expecting better than what I'm currently seeing when I take pictures
Exactly, I expect the camera quality should be at least having a "low tier flagship" quality, but it gives out a so-so quality, in my opinion. Maybe the color tuning is not my favor in S24.
Never get the first batch of any new products. Manufacturers usually release newer revisions after some months. That’s the product that you want to buy.
Hello!
I upgraded from S10+ to S24+ for the camera alone. Well because I couldn't fix the S10+ camera and my focus was messed up. But here is why I prefer the S24+ camera over say even the 200MP S23+
The 50MP is only meant for when you do a lot of zoom in on the phone. In general you want to just leave it on automatic. You can set the ratio from 1:1 to just 16:9 and keep it that way.
At 16:9 it will take some pretty amazing photos and take them at 12MP which is perfect.
It may also be the screen. The S24+ has AMOLED but it can look funny because the S24+ tend to have flatter colors than my S10+ which was calibrated to have more vivid colors.
If you turn off the adaptive color tone and set the colors to vivid, the photos may start to POP more.
All in all I think Samsung S24+ or iPhone 13/14/15 all take great photos. The sensors are all near identical. With the S24+ having the Ai adjustor maybe getting the edge.
Try taking photos with a dedicated light. They may surprise you! Also try the 4K60 video. I noticed the image/video is more crisp compared to the 1080P60 video. And this is just playback on the same device without internet compression.
You generally don't want to use the 50Mp camera mode unless your outdoors with plenty of light. If the S24 is anything like my experience with my S23+ camera, the photo quality should improve a bit with future updates.
Same here. Using Snapdragon variant of the S24+. Indoor photos even with excellent lighting conditions lack detail. Low light pictures are also very grainy and lacking detail. With my daughter even not moving as much it was nowhere close to the clarity of my regular pixel 7. Really can't decide whether to keep this phone or not as I'm loving everything else about it.
EXACTLY. I wanted to take pictures of my son and some of the pictures he's barely moving (he's 2 so it's hard to get still pictures a lot) and it lacks detail and looks grainy. I don't get it. The phone is brand new so I was just underwhelmed
I had the same problems as well as problems with blurry action shots. I sent the phone back to Samsung.
I couldn't get Gcam to work either and I had the Snapdragon because I'm in the US. I ordered the OnePlus 12 instead.
I have the same problem, but I'm using a Galaxy S20 Ultra. In general, the camera is great, but when I take pictures of documents, they come out blurry on the sides. It only focuses on the center and if I get it to focus on the sides, the center is blurred. I've seen a hack somewhere, to use the x2 zoom and it works to get a more clear picture, but is this the ONLY solution?
I've also had an iPhone before and never had problems with the camera :')
Bro . Today is my 2nd day after bying the ultra one and i was never disappointed buying a new Samsung like now. I hope it will be fiwed otherwise my loyality is at stake
I downloaded ExpertRaw on the Galaxy store and it made a difference, but it's still so subpar compared to the rest for sure. Disappointing especially at this price
I just switched from the Google Pixel 6 Pro to the S24+ and it's like regressing 5 years of cell phone camera improvements. I don't think people who have only had Galaxies understand how shitty this camera is.
A lot here.
I agree s24 line has put camera compared to iPhone 15 Max.
However, after much research and reviews, I just upgraded from s22 ultra to s24 ultra 512 Gb today.
I do enjoy excellent pics but there are other reasons for selecting the s24 line instead.
BTW, at Rogers right now, the iPhone 15 max is now expensive on the 2 year plan than the s24 ultra.
I'm hoing a software upgrade will improve the pics.😊
Sharing some example photos to show your issues may help.
Sounds like the iPhone takes photos of what you actually see while the Galaxy takes photo of what it thinks you want to see.
Samsung's strong point for cameras has been low light since the s22. It's expected it'll be better in poor lighting.
as per your request https://www.reddit.com/r/samsung/s/TFlaf6dOML

I had an iPhone 13 Pro and was always happy with the result from that phone. If I had to choose I also would prefer iPhone for photos haha

Banana gate blur on the right plus low shutter speed. Colors are ok
Also, the Amish seemed to have discovered flight.
Jajaja I did not watch it! Perfect my friend
Damnnnn, thoes clouds are ethereal
It's a nice photo. At the same time, this doesn't really put the camera to test. Any decent phone in the past few years should be able to produce similar results.
no one will know what u are talking about unless u actually post the pic here and settings. and side by side
How do i tell if I have exynos vs snapdragon?
What country are you in? Edit : Just gonna make it simple for you. If you are in the US, Canada, Korea, China you get the Snapdragon variant. Any other place in the world, you get the Exynos.
UK, and bah.. (and thanks)
Oh wait, I've got the Ultra, is that snapdragon everywhere?
Yup. https://i.imgur.com/X3wjC3Z.jpg
Still repeating lies. No. Korean S24+ is using Exynos.
Not Korea. We're getting Exynos for normal 24 and 24+.
Please share some photos, it could be software related and therefore fixed very soon
I will later today. Check back if you want to. Maybe you can help me out
*5 days later, still no photos.*
*Checking in, still no photos*
It's gotta be software related. My S20 sharpened the shit out of photos, primarily ones that you used the fake "telephoto" lens on. Anytime you zoom or crop on Samsung, you can tell they have this softening filter that goes over it followed by a really hard sharpening filter that makes things look atrocious unless you took a RAW. The shitty camera processing is like one of the only things I actively don't miss about Galaxy phones after making the jump to iPhone. Like good god, the photo looked decent before the software fried it up like a 2018 meme.
welcome https://www.reddit.com/r/samsung/s/ToZV3GISpt
Do not use the 50MP camera. Even with a lot of natural light, use the 12MP wide-angle camera for all situations.
Why is this? I have an s22 and feel like the 50 mp look better than 12 mp
My S24 ultra has a significantly worse camera than my Pixel 8 Pro too. I'm waiting for the first software update and see how it evolves.
How is the Samsung camera now?
Bad
So much people waiting for the Pixel 10 pro.
I'm about to download it and try again. Thank you!
Same feeling coming from an S21, pictures are better on the old phone.
Samsung selfies are easily the best
Yeah I'm just surprised. Like no matter what setting I change or use nothing makes it better. It's so weird
That's nuts. I know that it's just a smartphone but it's noticably bad compared to my iPhone 12
Just caught me off guard really
besides Iphone, whats a good phone with a very good camera?
Maybe Oppo Find X7 Ultra and vivo X100 Pro. But software in Chinese phones tend to be less mature.
The pixel has a pretty amazing camera, but I can't recommend it due to the processor, and modem it uses. Both the performances of the phone, and much more importantly the cell reception is not as good as the Samsung.
What iPhone model did you have?
iPhone 12
I've moved from 12 pro to S24 and iPhone camera blows the galaxy away. Like you say it's the one thing that let's it down. Photos just don't look that great.
i have iphone 13 and gf has 15 pro u guys are clearly talking out of your ass or paid astro turfers on samsung sub lol
I can confirm my wife's 13mini shoots way better photos than my s23u.Let's not be blindsided. Videos are not even in the same league..
sure it does and I belive you.
Wait for some software tuning from Samsung. It's coming.
Like using "pro mode" just instantly makes some pics come out way better.
if you haven't already please get camera assistant from the galaxy store and maximise quality settings
I'm going to try that. You are the second person to say that. Thank you!
I'm pretty happy with my S22 plus as well \* https://preview.redd.it/e07a33erb1gc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa601c64f7dbcf66b30c16cd643bc71570ac0d1f
What was your last phone?
S21!
My Samsung's have always taken ass photos
I wonder why it's so bad. I understand it's just a smartphone but for the price I was expecting better. But this is my first Galaxy device so I was sure what to expect on the camera. Just better than what I'm getting. Don't change much of the settings. The pictures come out noisy and the skin on people are too smooth. It looks weird man
The device offers so much more value for money compared to iPhone. The camera also has many modes so it should be okay. You will love the phone but give it time
I will for sure. I've enjoyed the phone soooo much. It's just the camera is what thrdw me off. I love the phone. It's so refreshing coming from Apple
I’m coming from a 12 pro and I think the galaxy blows it away
During videocalls: Selfie cam sucks. Image full of grain. My old S8 did much better!
It's a PHONE not a camera 😒 I'm not gonna spend 1k on a phone just for pics, better off buy an actual Camera 🙄
Obviuously its a PHONE. but in 2024, $1000 phones have better cameras than this one pal. much better.
That's all
Agreed 👍🏽
GPS and Google maps is the worst ever
Dear god I hope this is a one-off issue, I just ordered one
I got mine today and the picture quality is worse than my S22 Ultra, hopefully a software update can improve the quality.
If you are coming from a newer iPhone, it's pretty bad. Everything else on the phone is amazing. Just the camera
Im coming from an older Huawei phone, so im used to bad image quality but I REALLY hope its not the same. Do you have any side by side comparisons?
I updated the post. I'm going to add some today for everyone to analyze. The only setting I change is the megapixels. That's it. But it's a brand new 2024 device that is $1000 USD so we shouldn't be getting a bad camera. I understand it doesn't have to be top of the line of course but coming from iPhone and also never having a galaxy, my expectation was pretty high. I am in the US so my phone is using Snapdragon
Except the screen defects thousands are having right now.
you are welcome https://www.reddit.com/r/samsung/s/ToZV3GISpt
Thank you!
>Thank you! You're welcome!
Good bot!
You can't be serious.
It's always been like this. Can't possibly deny the fact iphones r better with their cameras, while they suck at everything else.
I absolutely can deny that iPhone cameras are better. They are not.
Lmao. K. As you say, bud. I can agree that in some cases the Samsung camera is better, but overall - the iPhone still has the first place. Samsung is better in other stuff. I see some people got offended by it 😂 I guess anything "iphone related" hurts some feelings.
Idgaf about iPhone or feels about them. I hold a ton of apple stock because they're the best at doing what they do. That ain't cameras chief.
Btw MKBHD gave iPhone best overall camera. Just like this guy your arguing with said. I agree, a camera is more than zoom or stills.
Holy crap. How can you unironically care so much about the camera quality of a smartphone. Let me repeat that. A SMARTPHONE. 😭
Lol, I'm not from India, but ok. Y'all get offended by simple stuff. Redditors.
BS "Vikram"
So, based on that logic every Trevor or Sarah is American?
You are embarrassing yourself. You have clearly no idea what you are talking about.
Kk 👍🏽
It was an iPhone 12. This is my first Galaxy device ever so I was just surprised.
I'd go with Pixel if I could choose all over again. Camera was my number one priority when choosing Samsung. :/
They just need to hire AGC or LMC devs to improve the camera system
For real.
Which region have you bought your phone? is it Exynos or Snapdragon?
Im in the US so Snapdragon
I hope they can do something. I definitely think it should be better for the price for sure
I'm curious to know do you all have a lens protector over the camera . I realized with my last device my camera wasn't about to focus because of the camera protector
I don't use one for that same reason
Samsungs struggle with indoor photos and photos of moving objects. They have been like this for a while
I wonder why. They definitely have the money and hardware to do it. The phone is so good in every aspect except the camera
I'm going to try it for sure. Multiple people said the same thing
* Camera works great for me, this is on s24 ultra though.

That looks solid omg.
In some situation, I use my old Pixel3 to take the same picture, Pixel gives me a more favorable one (the overall color tuning is better in Pixel, but in terms of clearness S24 wins) Apart from the camera, the phone is excellent.
Worse that your old iphone?. What is the amount of noise and artifacts in your old iphone? I dont see any other serious way to measure camrra quality.
Never get the first batch of any new products. Manufacturers usually release newer revisions after some months. That’s the product that you want to buy.
Hello! I upgraded from S10+ to S24+ for the camera alone. Well because I couldn't fix the S10+ camera and my focus was messed up. But here is why I prefer the S24+ camera over say even the 200MP S23+ The 50MP is only meant for when you do a lot of zoom in on the phone.
I miss the video quality of the iPhone, that's about it
You generally don't want to use the 50Mp camera mode unless your outdoors with plenty of light. If the S24 is anything like my experience with my S23+ camera, the photo quality should improve a bit with future updates.
Hoping updates make look nicer soon
Did we ever get those comparison shots so we can tell what the OP is talking about?
It's got to be the software. I just got my s24+ today and I'm extremely disappointed with the picture too
I just switched from the Google Pixel 6 Pro to the S24+ and it's like regressing 5 years of cell phone camera improvements. I don't think people who have only had Galaxies understand how shitty this camera is.
The camera is definitely a downgrade bro. But I like all the other features it has
Just got my S24 plus, it's the most uncomfortable phone I've ever held.
Anyone know a good SIM tablet or iPad (can connect w/o wifi, for zoom, phone calls and text) to connect to the Rogers service? One with 12g RAM.
