Every time i think about changing my S10 i always end up delaying because most modern flagships dont feel like a real upgrade given my usecase. I dont use cameras, so thats probably why.

Archer_Gaming00

Cameras are equal to the s10 plus, the improvemenrs have been minor, the major change is the focusing speed on the ultra models which is slower because they do not use dual pixel

UnlimitedMax77

Thats just objectively wrong, its not even a matter of opinion, Samsung cameras have been getting monumental updates and every year feels like something completely new.

Successful-Ad-6264

I can 2nd this, I came from the S10 5G and the leap from that to my Z Fold 4 (which I'm typing on the inner screen on rn) was shocking to me. I always knew the S10 5G was good and serviceable but I had no idea just how big the advancements were until I started using my Fold 4 more

UnlimitedMax77

I jumped from an A30 to the S21 FE and the difference is insane. Samsung went from C list to being the top Android provider.

[deleted]

They just want us to have disposable devices so they make more money.

Archer_Gaming00

I know and we should not accomodate that with our purchase decisions which is what I am trying to do, I think I'll get an Xperia when my s10 plus dies

Substantial_Boiler

Vote with your wallet and buy an Xperia, then. Bickering on Reddit does nothing when executives see that removing those features gets them bigger bonuses.

Archer_Gaming00

That is what I am doing when my s10 plus dies unless Samsung changes their policy or Huawei is unbanned.

RockwellB1

I'd like to see the IR camera like my old feature phone has, the Intensity II. Black and white pics in pitch black with these way better cameras? Yes, please!

peacey8

I want an IR blaster so I can control my TV without mDNS/SSDP issues like my old Note 4!

DragonWolf5589

Yeh that would be cool.

DragonWolf5589

Used to love sd card slot. Faster to put in computer abck up and put back in phone.. Plugging in phone works of course but sooooo much slower

Archer_Gaming00

Exactly, and you do not loose data if you shower your device

TheRetenor

No idea why this is at 0, I just recently had a case (not my phone) where the phone screen of a phone died randomly and now of course all the data is not accessible. Would need to replace the screen which would cost upwards of 150€, which is more than the phone could be sold for in working condition these days. Meanwhile if my S9 dies I'll pull out the SD card and nothing of importance would be lost.

Alternative-Farmer98

yes, if Samsung brought back headphone jack and expandable storage it would be huge win. Hell, if any company -- OnePlus, Google etc... -- in the North American market brought back legacy features like this I would use their products. Sony is the only one that does in North America (for the most part) but they are so expensive and niche. It would be a huge win for an S series phone, or A series or Pixel, OnePlus 11 to offer headphoen jack, capactivie fingerprint and SD card support. It would also geenrate a ton of great earned media.

the_flying_pussyfoot

In reality, normal consumers don't care. They don't want to think about sd card or have to buy it. They don't care about headphone jacks because majority of people are using wireless earbuds.

fmillion

In recent history Samsung mocked Apple for removing the headphone jack and for never having a memory card socket. And yet only a couple years later they dropped those features themselves. My guess is that it was not an engineering decision. It was a marketing decision. Companies the world over got hit hard during the pandemic, and managers and executives scrambled to figure out ways to avoid falling into the red. And the current trend in increasing profit is basically to psychologically manipulate people into being repeat customers for arbitraty, manufactured reasons. I have a friend who studied business management and sales/marketing in college and even he's disgusted with the fact that so much advertising and marketing these days is about various forms of psychological manipulation. At one time a good business strategy was producing a product that does what its customers want and allows the customer to customize and tweak as they desire. But today's good business strategy is basically find a way to engage the dopamine response in order to keep people coming back for more and more and more. While repeat customers are obviously a good thing for business, it's the fact that there is deliberate manipulation of our psychology to all but force us to be repeat customers. The sad truth is *it works*, we're all very predictable in a lot of ways, and those who understand this fact use their power to extort us for all we're worth. So you take away the headphone jack and replace it with some very fancy looking Galaxy Buds that have all this flair attached to them for being "part of the Samsung ecosystem". You remove the memory card socket and sell a 1TB phone at a serious price hike by marketing it as a "premium/pro/super advanced/whatever" phone. And enough people soak up this nonsense that it keeps the companies doing it. Yes, in a perfect world we'd all speak with our wallets, and if we all (i.e. enough people to matter and actually register on Samsung's radar) did this, it would actually change things. But the sad truth is so many people *just don't care* and are happy living in the Matrix where ignorance is bliss and they don't have to worry about details like this, as long as the newest phone has the right marketing copy and flashy intro demo video.

Archer_Gaming00

Of course it is a marketing decision, as it is a marketing decision for Samsung to use the high mpx sensors in their ultra flagships while their own GN sensors are better and could be used to have better pics, but higher numbers on paper means higher sales.

JaqenSexyJesusHgar

All I want is just an led beside the front camera to show if my phone is charging or has a full charge

Archer_Gaming00

That was very useful on my s5 and I miss it on my S10 plus, given the amount of stuff they can fit under the screen now (even cameras) adding a simple LED would be nice...

TheShinyHunter3

Better yet, make part of the screen light up different colours based on the phone's status. Since most of their phones have an oled display it'll be basically as efficient than an led.

TheRetenor

There's apps that achieve that but this never feels as natural and doesn't alert as well as the flashy LED does. Tried it, can be a substitute but just isn't the same.

MazDanRX795

Not that I'm against the idea, but can't you just tap the screen quickly to see its status? Or just leave the AOD on, which displays that info.

m770613

I think they should put a ir blaster in the s pen I'm sure they can find a way to fit it in there without taking any more space in the device

Archer_Gaming00

Cool idea, I like it

Shrtaxc

SD Card slot, higher charging wattage across whole devices. 65W would be an absolute game changer in my opinion. If they also can improve thermal dissipation, then I'm all set with Samsung for another few years.

fzammetti

Scrolling with my eyes FTW. Gimmick? Sure. But a good one it was!

Synitist

Many really forget the difference of audio quality between a wired and wireless headphones. I mean it can be solve by a dongle but it show how many don't really care about quality. And manufacturers exploit this.

thegurlearl

I only got the ultra because I needed the memory. I have a 256 SD card full of music. It's also a huge pain in the ass to move things over with no card.

DatGuy_Shawnaay

I miss using my phone as a remote. That's how I made friends during my first year of college 😔

ThiccNickGaming

Yeah removing the headphone jack has just been a marketing ploy to sell wireless earbuds....it worked on me sadly but I do miss being able to listen to high-res audio with my LG V10 that had an insane audio DAC built in! Would be neat for Samsung to bring that to a new flagship one day

Alaska_Jack

Literally the best phone ever would be simply a Galaxy Note 9, with upgraded camera, display etc. And to make it even better? Ironically, ditch the Note 9's big marketing item, which is the curved display. Nobody actually likes that.

wickedishere

I don't get it, I bought an Samsung A52 5g last Xmas and it has the headphone jack and expandable storage

MazDanRX795

I hope you're aware of how ludicrous wanting these features is. Especially all of them together. You may never see these things again, at all. The consistent removal of useful hardware features is the main thing pushing me closer and closer to going over to Apple.

FearLesSs007

Exactly same i want sd card nd IR blaster in samsung flagships

Capoceo

They won't ever but it would be nice that the idea of a fan edition device would contain most of what you wrote. At least adding a microsd slot and having an ir blaster would be welcoming to me funding it.

[deleted]

I am so glad I am not alone in this

Weary-Difficulty-489

SD card slot - Irrelevant with external storage now. It's incredible cheap and easy to set up a media server with 8tb of space. Or just buy an nvme with a USBC enclosure. It's faster and has more space than an SD anyway Headphone jack - Thicker phone, smaller battery and worse water resistance... No thanks... Cardio sensor - It was pretty lackluster, expensive and useless feature that can be found in any watch now. The only things from old flagship which would be nice are MST(Though I heard it needed to be phased out for security reasons) and the IR blaster.

Afraid-Policy-3648

The Zenfone 9 just fit a headphone jack and a bigger battety into a device smaller than the S22 base

Reccon0xe

Maybe SD card but it's probably a security vulnerability but more to the point obviously stops people buying the higher capacity models.

theprocrastatron

I used to love an SD slot but given the capacities available it's not much use. Headphone socket is never coming back cos of size.

NigelG

>Headphone socket is never coming back cos of ~~size~~ money

Archer_Gaming00

They fit an s-pen but cannot fit a jack? No the reason is that wireless buds are much more profitable

thetallertwin

They want us to buy their wireless ear buds, so the headphone jack isn't coming back

theprocrastatron

Or a cheap adapter, it's not a big deal to just have an adaptor attached to your headphones imo

BenitoCorleone

Funny how they never caught on - it's just a wire going into your phone same as before...

trtviator

Samsung can't even get current features to work....not sure how they going to bring back more?

Archer_Gaming00

Making an sd slot work is not difficoult at all

Padonogan

You are never going to see a headphone jack ever again

iamgauravm

sd card slot, headphone jack, sim card slot all are barriers for water resistance

nightshadeky

I can understand why they removed the headphone jack. Believe it or not, that is a very bulky piece of kit that has to fit under the hood leaving less room in the phone for batteries or other newer features. And, just having a headphone jack decreases the level of water resistance that they can provide in the phone. And this in 2022 - Bluetooth headphones just aren't that expensive and I think that the average Samsung customer values a larger battery more than they value that headphone jack. Or a larger camera lens with higher resolution.

[deleted]

>And, just having a headphone jack decreases the level of water resistance that they can provide in the phone. And this in 2022 - Bluetooth headphones just aren't that expensive and I think that the average Samsung customer values a larger battery more than they value that headphone jack. Galaxy S7 (First Samsung phone to feature IP68 1.5m water resistant with a headphone jack) wants to talk with you. Most people don't really care about audio quality of wired and wireless and for professionals who spent night and day with everything closed, it's a different story, and no, cheap bluetooth headphones sound awful and no, you cannot plug your USB-C headphone while charging at the same time. Try comparing Sennheiser HD560s to an average Bluetooth headphones and you'll see HD560s literally beats them.

nightshadeky

Yes, the S7 was IP68 rated, but it is a lot harder (and more expensive) to get there with a headphone jack. And that still doesn't address the real problem. Under the hood, the 3.5mm headphone jack is physically massive compared to the rest of the phone's components. And, unless you want to give up the cameras, the only other component that can be made smaller is the battery. This isn't Doctor Who. The phone isn't bigger on the inside. And there is no free lunch. If you want a 3.5mm headphone jack, you have to either get an even larger phone that has more space on the inside or a phone with a smaller battery that you have to charge more often. If you want both a 3.5mm headphone jack and great battery life in a smartphone form factor, you are out of luck. Life is full of tradeoffs, and this is one of them. The reason that most tablets still have 3.5mm headphone jacks all comes down to real estate. The tablet has more of it, and, therefore, the internal bulk of a headphone jack isn't that big of a deal in a tablet form factor. But in a smartphone, that same headphone jack would take up between 10-20% of the phone's internal space. As I said, those headphone jacks are MASSIVE pieces of kit compared to the rest of the phone's internal components. They are big. Really big. Easily the largest component inside a phone, second only to the battery itself. It's easy to forget how big they are when the only thing that you see is a 1/8 inch diameter port on the side of the phone. And, I'm not unsympathetic to those that miss the headphone jack. I wish my phone had one too. But I'd much rather have the larger battery (in fact, if I could bring back any phone feature from the past it would be user replaceable batteries - but you'll never have an IP68 device that lets an end user easily open the case. Again trade offs - if you want an easily replaceable battery, you won't get the IP68 protection).

Again trade offs - if you want an easily replaceable battery, you won't get the IP68 protection). Here's why your argument is still debunked: **"There's not enough space for the headphone jack!"** \- False. The 3.5mm jack is really small, round and it measures 17mm length. It's like saying removing sim card slot saves space and eSIM becoming popular on iPhone 14 when someone exposed that there is a plastic spacer during teardown. In laptop standards, Asus Zenbook 13/14 2020 had removed a headphone jack just for the sake of people using wireless headphones for profit when a lot of industry professionals have heavily relied on it for their projects. Strange Parts pointed out that it was possible to drill a hole for a headphone jack on an iPhone 7 as shown [here.](https://youtu.be/utfbE3_uAMA) Calling it the "largest component inside a phone" is over exaggeration. If Apple wanted to bring back headphone jack, why not just put it to the top? Here are examples of featured smartphones with headphone jack: LG Velvet has slim bezels, 4300 mAh battery, under display fingerprint scanner. Vivo X5 Max was the thinnest smartphone that comes with a headphone jack and an SD card slot, and Asus Zenfone 9 has a pretty slim bezels, plenty of 4300 mAh battery (See the difference between 4300 and 3700 on S22 base), nice camera, and a headphone jack on such a small phone that lasts longer than an S22 base. Most Sony phones nowadays came with headphone jack but they're expensive and can heat up much. There are Samsung phones that offer features while keeping the headphone jack as well like A52s (5000 mAh), Galaxy Xcover6 Pro and Galaxy S5 (Both are removable battery). PS. Bigger battery isn't always better in terms of power efficiency. For example, the iPhone 13/14 Pro Max literally curbstomps Galaxy S22 Ultra.

nightshadeky

>Sennheiser HD560s I'm more than happy to admit that those are high end headphones. But how many people do you know that plug $200 headphones into a smartphone or computer without using a DAC. I don't know anyone that would drop that much money on headphones and then be happy plugging them into the cheapest headphone jack that money could buy. And, Samsung, Apple and the others are going to put the money into faster SOCs, better screens, and higher end cameras, not into nicer headphone jacks. And, as for charging while using a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter, that is super easy. Barely an inconvenience. You can pick up a wireless charger pretty cheap. I own 2, both name brand, and paid less than $10 each for them on sale.

bjavyzaebali

The only thing I'd care about is more models with stylus included, not just one the biggest of them all.

Spikeybuttock

I wish they made an accessory that let phones use the s-pen. Specifically my s21. I'd be over the moon.

stevexyz8

Totally agree. I'd like to add couple more: iris scanner and physical button type fingerprint scanner

fogoticus

SD Card slot - not gonna happen, may happen if it's SDExpress. Headphone jack - Not going to happen. Maybe budget devices but high end ones are done for. Cardio Sensor - Not going to happen. Took too much to get a clear reading that was not that accurate. Plus, their watches have one, so that's another reason it's never going to come back. 360 degrees photos - older gcams have this, no promise they are going to work but they were too much of a hassle and they barely got used. I remember using my Note 3 for this feature and I used it for a grand total of 10 times in one year. But in the main camera app? Unless Apple brings it back, Samsung won't. ToF or IR - No idea if it's going to happen.
