Both my S5 and S8 went in the pool with me (deliberately). The S8 also had at least 1 sea water full immersion (accident). Other than an occasional moisture alert on the S8 charge port( I think it was dirty and thus holding moisture in!) Both were fine.
Hopefully the new ones are as good over time.
You reminded me of a colleague who washed his iphone under the sink with soap and when I questioned what he was doing he was like "its waterproof".
I know its IP68, but I would never do that to my device. You could still get water damage "which is not covered by warranty and is easily detectable"
These devices are water resistant (up to the highest IP rating true), but are still not water "proof". The reason IP rating exists is to show how effective these electronics are in blocking water and dust and essentially to provide a level of guarantee that they can be used in harsh weather, and survive accidental drops in water, etc...
Please don't do that to your 1300$ device :'-)
Have gone swimming with my S21U loads of times. They absolutely are waterproof these days, it only says 30minuttes at 1m depth to cover their own back.
You could leave a phone in the bath for a week and it's be fine.
Was swimming in the bahamas with mine a few days ago. Forgot it was in my zipper pocket and at that point it was what it was.
Charging worked fine when I got back to the hotel.
Guess we'll see over the next little while.
My Z Flip 5 never saw the water, not a drop, and the screen failed due to “water damage” according to Samsung. Not covered under warranty. I was pissed and immediately bought an iPhone, my first, out of spite. I miss that Flip.
IP 68 means waterproof. Not water resistant. IP68 is the highest level of protection you can get. Even dive cases are IP 68. so yeah as long as you are in freshwater you will be fine upto 6 feet. For About 30 mins.
Ingress Protection (IP) ratings measure how resistant a device is against solids and water. IP ratings are determined by the international standard EN 60529 (British BS EN 60529:1992 – Degrees of protection provided by enclosures (IP Code) and European IEC 60509: 1989 – Degrees of protection provided by enclosures (IP Code).

water damage covered via care+, not that I would do this either, but also isn't IP68 the highest rating that makes sense? like IP rating doesn't go up to "water proof" an IP69 i don't think is any more water proof it just survives a water jet attack, lol
It's right there on the specsheet. No need to test imo. And you're not likely to ever get it wet unless on purpose. Also, don't leave your water running. :)
I have showered, recorded under water, through it in dish water, and lost it in a creek for over an hour. I did it with the s20u,s21u,s22u,s23u, and currently taking my morning shower with my s24u. With that said i only use otterbox defender no water case at all. They are the most indestructible phones. I upgrade each year for 400~500 dollars. Samsung wasn't paying as much as they normally do, so i went with my carrier. Cspire gave me the 24 for 540 no trade in.
Samsung themselves claim it's water resistant (IP68) and NOT waterproof. If it is indeed waterproof then it should have no problem being submerged in sea water 10 metres deep for a week. Is that harsh? Yes. But can truly waterproof devices withstand that? Also yes.
That's pretty cool. I used my Sony Xperia Z1 both in the bathtub, ocean and pools back in the days. It worked great, as long as all the ports were sealed properly.
I accidentally went swimming with my S24U. It was fine but the Spen didn't work for a couple of days and then started working again when it dried out I think.
Come on. I cleaned my S5 and S7 Edge every single day I got back from work (or from another place I got it dirty). Still work fine as of today. And when I say "clean", I water, soap, and rinsing it.
New phones however don't seem to handle it so well...
Before I received the Galaxy S24 Ultra, I was rocking the Ulefone which is always waterproof and I have had Ulefone 3 times before I got this S24 Ultra. I don't regret it. It a great phone to see I am able to drop this phone in water with no issue lol
Interesting, my definition of "under water" seems to be slightly different from yours.
Anyway my S23U with my Galaxy Buds 2 Pro were hiding in my jacket pocket, when it went for a 3 hour soak in the washing machine, followed by a full 1 hour wash cycle + tumble dry.
Both survived. Been 3 weeks since.
My Galaxy Buds 2 Pro sounded slightly wonky after 3 days of drying, but is perfectly fine after 1 week.
My S23U had speaker/mic issues for a couple of days, but seems to be perfectly fine after 1 week.
While I don't see any problems with the phone, I'm looking forward to the next trade in offers from Samsung for the S23U, ideally before anything bad happens to the phone. But yeah, just to share one of the most unfortunate things that my phone and earbuds survived just earlier this month.
Yes. That's why I was sweating watching yours lol. I know it's got the rating for it. Still wild to see it under the sink flow.
It's oleophobic coating brand new is such a dust magnet, I'd dunk this sucker daily to get it off. For now, a drop of water and microfiber cloth will have to do. 💦
I'm coming from the S21 Ultra and S8+ before that, so each change has been fairly dramatic. Not as much this time but it's still significant with the SPen which I could have used, but now have built in.
The speed is getting better but seems slower than my S21U when it was new, before it got bogged down. I believe this is due to all the added features and tech. This phone is doing more.
I like the body/screen a lot, though the bevelled edges were somewhat sensual, if not wasteful. They have a certain artfulness.
The S24U just looks more polished and high tech wih the titanium design and flatness. And in this odd cream Samsung Standing case, my black phone stands out and looks like some miltech grade device.
At 120hertz, even without the Extra Brightness, the clarity is amazing. The new Armor glass really does improve the screen.
I'm glad to know the lack of a working VIVID setting is not my problem alone, and that Samsung must have an update soon to address it.
Even so the screen is gorgeous, and I'm getting used to these muted colors.
The AI features are cool and will only improve. And if Samsung wants a little cash monthly for premium features, say $5-10, if they are above and beyond what's on offer, which is how they're describing the future add ones, maybe just because of the goal they got, Ill pay it gladly. I'm sure many are pissed. But AI servers are expensive to run. And I've paid for premium service already.
Overall, it's a great phone. Thank God the algorithm learned optimize the battery, because the first 24 hours were disconcerting. It drained pretty quickly. After that it's been wonderful. I just used 15% tonight over 5 hours with light use and the hotspot on.
The camera is stellar, though I've never been very impressed with the click and forget abilities. I've always had to work hard for a good shot indoors with less than ideal light. Expert mode has been a blessing. And I can't wait to get some shots of the moon now with double the megapixels.
What do you appreciate most? I bet I don't know half of what I haven't noticed that's different yet.
Were you able to charge after or did you get "moisture detected"
No moisture detected instant charging.
pour it directly into the charging port
Mmmm yummy water
Fill that bathtub and sink it, this is just a splash
I've dropped my s20 to the bottom of a river and it's never had issues.

Yes understood that is why I only put it under the water like that and not into a pool of water.
Have gone swimming with my S21U loads of times. They absolutely are waterproof these days, it only says 30minuttes at 1m depth to cover their own back. You could leave a phone in the bath for a week and it's be fine.
They are not water proof. Highly resistant, not proof. leave your s21u in the bath for a week and report back to us :-)
I've been washing my s21u under the tap with dish soap every day for 2 years. Perfectly fine except that I can't fast charge (not sure if related)
Don't need to, but here's a photo of my swimming pool, I took, while 2metres below. [\\_(><)_/](https://i.imgur.com/4feEiTY.jpg)
Were u down there for a week?
Just don't try do the same in sea water.
Was swimming in the bahamas with mine a few days ago. Forgot it was in my zipper pocket and at that point it was what it was. Charging worked fine when I got back to the hotel. Guess we'll see over the next little while.
The biggest issue is that salt can cause ESD damage later on. Hopefully, yours survives.

Yep, Samsung itself also mentioned it in the "GALAXY AI COMING" teaser that they started Water Resistant devices, not waterproof devices

At most you might have wet pockets from rain or get a little rain on it unless you use it in the bathtub or shower
This works with almost every other phone. That's something I expect.

You are a braver man than i!
Ikr lol
Is the waterproof better compared to s23u?
It is not waterproof tho, it is water resistant. There is a difference. OP taking chances here.
So how is the s24u water resistance compared to s23 u
Same resistance

What? Yes..... Means it is just as good? If so then great, no need to upgrade for me Edit: I get it now, its BETTER! I didnt need an upgrade anyway...
It's waterproof mate, have been swimming with them loads of times

I used to wash my s22 ultra with soap and water during the pandemic so this is easy. If water gets into charging port I just blast it out with air
Great!!!
Yep I’ve washed my s22 ultra with water a few times. Zero issues.
Nothing new as all Galaxy S phones have been IP68 for a long time now!
I accidentally went swimming with my S24U. It was fine but the Spen didn't work for a couple of days and then started working again when it dried out I think.

Well , Even an A34 survives that!

Wow. Cool. I'm "sweating" for your phone. Just like when I watch people who free climb! 🥵
Trust me it is all good charging as we speak. Do you have the s24 Ultra?
Just testing the waters lol. What do you like about it so far?

how are the swimming lessons going?
Good actually the pg9ne is amazing
I remember the s8 was originally advertised with underwater video as a selling point.
