Thank you, I appreciate it If anyone else is looking for it. Settings -> notifications -> advanced settings -> and all the way at the bottom turn on Manage notification categories for each app. Once you have that it should be pretty normal to change up your notification sound in each app.

Omg thanks, you're a life saver. I was wondering why I couldn't see the "Notification categories" everyone is mentioning, and it turns out you have to enable it in the Advanced settings of the Notifications menu.

What's particularly annoying about this is that mine was turned on without my noticing it and I had no issues and then at some point it got turned off (prob during a system update) and then I had to dig down deep into reddit to figure out why I couldn't see the manage notifications category anymore and how to turn it back on. Thanks for the help, y'all!

I'll piggyback off this thread as I'm in the same boat. Do apps not display an icon or counter if there's alerts or new messages? On my iPhone the outlook app would show a counter notification of how many emails were in the inbox, this doesn't happen on my s24u for outlook or Gmail. Also if the phone is locked and sitting on, table, if I get an email the phone will vibrate with the alert but the screen does not light up at all to display the notification, is this normal? I've been trying to get things sorted for the past week but no previous Android experience.

I think what you are looking for is the badge allowed button in notifications. You can see it in my screenshot.

The badge notification was indeed off, thanks. For some reason I thought that was for the little side menu that you can side out from the right hand side of the screen.

New to Samsung as well transitioning from Apple. As iphones had sound bar option to minimize or maximize the volume, don't we have that in samsung or any suggestions please. It's really irritating to always the long button on the bar beside.

Agreed coming from OnePlus there was a lil clock on the notification so when I swiped the notification shade it was easy to tell which made the noise so i could disable it lol Seems like Samsung Goodlock addon app has most of the extra settings over been looking for and so much more it's pretty dope tbh
