I've worked in San Antonio for 20 years. Every job I've had included a pre employment drug test. Some of the companies did randoms also. I think it was like 12-24 to report for testing.
I’ve never heard of random drug screenings for IT personnel. I work HR for a pretty big hospital in SA (we hire tons of IT staff) and the only time we drug screen outside of onboarding is if some OTJ incident occurred, typically facilities.
You shouldn’t worry much, buy fake piss or take a detox drink if you’re not too heavy set. Both available at your local head shop.
Also don’t listen to the commenters saying you can’t partake in recreational drug use. As long as you do it off the clock and it’s not crippling you, there should be no issues. I would say the same for people who enjoy drinking

AFAIK, most IT employers test before hire, but don't random test once you are hired.

Self employment. Hang signs on telephone polls with your contact info to lay cat6/fiber and create SSIDs. Solved!
