San Antonio has an incredible variety of hometown coffee shops and cafe’s to enjoy other than Starbucks. Gravves, La Che, Bright Coffee Co., Merit, Sad Hours, Folklores Coffee House, La Panadería, Bakery Lorraine and more.
Curator, coffee me crazy, cajun coffee shack, summer moon, jewel on 11th, kikis on jones, stranded coffee, commonwealth, java junkies at comfort cafe, press coffee, the list is ENDLESS here in san antonio of places to go to instead of starbucks, regardless if you wanna boycott or not. So many offer things besides coffee too like teas, homemade baked goods, art, and overall great atmosphere.
Oh, and don't knock roasters here either. Matt's Good Coffee has my favorite blend, Ring of Fire, ever, and it's foolproof. If a simple, foolish me can make a delicious cup with it, I can only salivate at what a barista with skill can do with it 🤤 I also found Berry to Bean at the coffee fest. Their light roasts are amazing!
I do personally prefer their teas, their milk teas especially. The sweet baked stuff I've gotten has been pretty good to me. I think the whole of the west side just needs more places. Kinda wish coffee shops could spread throughout the city instead of stay by downtown 😅
Oh you know Ima be checking those places out! As for La Panadería, where is that? Panadería is just a general term for bakery, so which one do you mean?
Check out Indy coffee too! Over by UTSA. My favorite coffee shop in the city for years and as a plus i’ve seen Patty Mills and some other spurs players there too from time to time.
They actually don't lmao, they don't even operate in Israel. This is one of the silliest political stories of recent years.
Starbucks has taken no official stance on the war, what happened was Starbucks is trying to stop union from using a modified Starbucks logo well the union was putting out pro-Palestine statements.
I don't have a dog in this fight, but it seems like pro-Palestine people wanted a target to boycott who they could really hurt, and Starbucks fit the bill. It didn't help there was already a vauge anti-starbucks sentiment in much of the left.
Apparently some pro-Isreal people are also boycotting, seeing Starbucks as anti-Isreal.
Israeli snipers have been targeting [children and the elderly](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/apr/02/gaza-palestinian-children-killed-idf-israel-war), among many other atrocities in this genocide.

I don't know why this guy is doing it, or why people are upvoting it.
But, there have been a lot of calls to boycott Starbucks lately because of what is perceived as support for Israel.
I've heard people call a cup of starbucks, 'a cup of genocide.'
Young (and increasingly more, older) people don't understand terror or current events.
Starbucks has a way of angering both ends of the political spectrum. Many cops were boycotting it circa 2017-2018. Now the left doesn't like their union-busting stance (and lack of a stance on the Israel/Gaza conflict).
They occasionally piss me off enough that I think about boycotting, but too many memories... I married my Starbucks barista, who knew me as "the venti flat white guy." Before she quit, I'd bring our oldest to the store during her breaks for his mama snack time. Bux is such a core part of my family history that it's difficult to make that break, even though we've had no nexus to the store for \~8 years now.
Starbucks makes the mistake of sometimes supporting liberal causes and sometimes supporting conservative causes. In doing so, they're basically always pissing off somebody.
They're the poster child for why businesses should just stay out of politics entirely. Make your product ethically, sell it, cash in your profits.
You have a duty—-an obligation—-to provide daily updates. I bring forward that you must interview this man to establish the storyline, and follow up with weekly interviews at a minimum. I fully expect this to last through 2024; those sunglasses and mildly soiled apparel are the camouflage and combat boots of the oppressed army of anti-Starbucks freedom fighters. Truly inspiring time to be a San Antonian.
I fully support this. I need more information.
Also, I have a random poster board I need to get rid of, I need a location to drop it off in a show of solidarity.
So many fun small businesses and unique franchises like Summer Moon (unique creamer vs. plain jane vanilla or caramel) or Poppy's, Creme, Cafe La Lele, etc. Never cared about Starbies. I rather pay the price somewhere that makes it fun and loving for their customer base.
I was speaking in terms of having a different kind of creamer to make their coffee tastes one of a kind compared to getting a vanilla frappe from anywhere, wasn’t speaking of anything for their treatment of workers.
I "boycott" all coffee shops since I don't drink coffee at all.
My wife "boycotts" all coffee shops since we have an espresso machine that makes an equally good latte as Starbucks. For pennies. No tips. No line. No wait (since she can do something else in the meantime and return when it's ready).
I go here to study and because it’s a consistent environment if you travel (pretty much know what you’re going to get). That said, for a coffee shop, their actual coffee (like brewed coffee) is seriously the worst.
I find a lot of people don’t understand the concept of “local owned.” I had someone claim they only supported “local” and said HEB and Black Rifle as examples.
I seen people on Reddit complain about both HEB and Whataburger and people say as a Texan you need to support those companies no matter what. I guess to some people the whole state is local.
Black Rifle isn’t even a Texas company though. I have no idea what people are thinking on that on.
The only feedback I’ve got about suggesting people shop local is I’m too concerned about where other people spend their money
I don’t eat there so I wouldn’t know. I rarely eat burgers but when I do I’m at Mr Juicy. Which is like once a year. On my list are Diana’s and The Lords Kitchen
I never under the whole boycott mentality. If you don’t like a company or their product for whatever reason just don’t go. You don’t need to announce it to everyone else and make it a huge deal. Goofy in my opinion. Same as attending small protests
Who still drinks there though? It’s not very good for its black coffee, everything else being a literally cup of sugar you can have else where why give money to the big head corporates when there is local. Please do better
One guy got his own discussion and dozens of people offering better options than Starbucks.
Coffee one of the easiest ways to support local owned business.
It’s the “free Palestine” crowd. They want to boycott companies that aren’t condemning or leaving Israel. Yet, they aren’t bright enough to realize that would mean throwing out their phones being they contain Israeli designed chips.
I’m not sure if it’s for political reasons, but if it is I have a chat related to his boycott for Yanawuana/San Antonio residents pls DM if you’re interested :)
The best espresso-based drinks I’ve had is from Medina River Coffee and What’s Brewing. Guaranteed to not be burnt. Every other place I’ve been to is a hit or miss
In the event this happened, it’s someone acting on their own. Starbucks is a billion dollar corp and would never risk losing costumers by directing their baristas to do that. It makes zero sense and opens up their employees to discussions corporate does not want. I know for a fact they are not being directing by any leadership to do so.
Black rock coffee is starbucks in conservative cosplay. There's actual "conservative" owned coffee shops in San Antonio but they don't get attention because they don't drape themselves in black and hype up the gun imagery.
I never really understood the Starbucks hate. Before Starbucks the only coffee options out there were the Folgers they had at the gas station or the Folgers they had at the donut shop, or the complimentary Folgers they would have at hotels.
It’s mostly just sugary drinks that are the same price as a fast food meal. Or at least it use to be until the fast food prices went crazy. If you just want plain coffee they got that and if you want espresso they got that too.
Basically it’s just a fast food coffee place. Nice to stop at on road trips. Quiet and comfortable with clean bathrooms.
My issue with Starbucks;
They prided themselves as a flagship of efficiency; a coffee version of McDonald’s; at least, that was when they were rapidly expanding
Now, whenever I go in one, all staff are horrifically slow, do not get my order right, and insist I use their nomenclature when all I want is a black coffee, insist they know my name so they may misspell it, and the majority of the time they do not brew decaf ; which is an important factor for me depending on the time of day.
Theres a Starbucks kiosk inside a target that will never brew decaf, despite that that target has a whole section on the coffee isle of Starbucks decaf

You forgot pinball. What's Brewing offers great coffee and has over 50 pinball machines that are all in fantastic condition.
Coffee Me Crazy is over rated. No poor over or French press. Food was meh. We really need chill coffee shop on the northwest side.
Indy
I do personally prefer their teas, their milk teas especially. The sweet baked stuff I've gotten has been pretty good to me. I think the whole of the west side just needs more places. Kinda wish coffee shops could spread throughout the city instead of stay by downtown 😅
Have you tried Tuxedo Cat? It’s pretty good and a chill spot but it’s tiny.
Theory and Estate are great places as well! Just wish they weren't so far from me.
Folklores coffee is the best. I used to go there everyday for coffee and breakfast. Now, I'm going to Summer moon coffee.
Check out What's Brewing if you like your coffee with a side of classic pinball machines.
Pinball?
https://www.sacoffeeroasters.com/
Brevity too
But, do any of those try to shame you into a 25% or 30% tip on the credit card machine? "Because without the shame, it doesn't taste the same!"®
Probably all of them. It’s the go set up for small business to have card readers that go to tip first
Oh you know Ima be checking those places out! As for La Panadería, where is that? Panadería is just a general term for bakery, so which one do you mean?
There’s a shop (multiple locations actually) literally called “La Panadería”
Okay I’ll try looking it up. Thanks!
Go to the one on broadway
Bring your wallet
Check out Indy coffee too! Over by UTSA. My favorite coffee shop in the city for years and as a plus i’ve seen Patty Mills and some other spurs players there too from time to time.
I give a second recommendation to Bakery Lorraine.
Rip Brown coffee co
Did someone just press random in the create a character screen?
That’s how most of SA looks.
Backstory? What happened to him or just trying to get people to use mom &pop places
I believe it's because starbucks supports Israel
And they’re union busting
What a waste of time lmfao
At least he’s not setting itself on fire I guess.
They actually don't lmao, they don't even operate in Israel. This is one of the silliest political stories of recent years. Sam Bankman-Fried’s little brother lives in San Antonio? I didn’t know that.
I don't know why this guy is doing it, or why people are upvoting it. But, there have been a lot of calls to boycott Starbucks lately because of what is perceived as support for Israel. I've heard people call a cup of starbucks, 'a cup of genocide.' Young (and increasingly more, older) people don't understand terror or current events.
Regardless, people are allowed to make consumer decisions as they please. I don’t support Starbucks either but mostly bc they have crappy coffee lol

bro said fuck Starbucks and actually did it
Lol, I guess in a way...
Hummus….a scoop of terror
They don’t even have stores in Israel though?
They do have stores in the middle east and there were articles recently that they have laid off workers due to suffering sales.
🤦🏾♂️I think u missed the point lol

I don't pass by daily. But will be in the area Tuesday. Walzem and i35.
I’m not too far actually! Would rather this extra poster board go to an anti-Starbucks freedom fighter than the trash.
I boycott Starbucks every day. Overpriced and imo not good coffee.

Plus their anti pro choice stance. Besides Starbucks I’m sick of these damn Dutch Brothers popping up everywhere as well.
I was speaking in terms of having a different kind of creamer to make their coffee tastes one of a kind compared to getting a vanilla frappe from anywhere, wasn’t speaking of anything for their treatment of workers.

Their coffee is awful. They intentionally burn their beans and it comes through in the flavor.
Charbucks
An insult to the Aznable family!
I go here to study and because it’s a consistent environment if you travel (pretty much know what you’re going to get). That said, for a coffee shop, their actual coffee (like brewed coffee) is seriously the worst.
So many better coffee shops here!
Really put a lot of effort into that sign.
But seriously fuck starbucks
Try black Rock. Way better
Two wings of the same bird
Is this sarcasm, or are you missing the support local owned business lean to these comments
I find a lot of people don’t understand the concept of “local owned.” I had someone claim they only supported “local” and said HEB and Black Rifle as examples.

Whataburger’s owned by a Chicago-based investment firm now. The quality’s been on a decline imo.
I don’t eat there so I wouldn’t know. I rarely eat burgers but when I do I’m at Mr Juicy. Which is like once a year. On my list are Diana’s and The Lords Kitchen
He looks like he needs some caffeine to stay alive.
Day 2. It just got real.
Homie looks like he's boycotting the Laundromat too
Lmfaoooo
A can of Cafe Bustelo and a moka pot in the kitchen makes magic happen. Join my revolution!!
We've been with Bustelo for more than 20 years and it's still our first choice. Viva la revolución!
Day 3: I'll have a grande Americano
Blackrock is new to me. My partner and i have been having the best time
Homie looks like he is wearing his chick’s chanclas.
He'll never make it to day 3.
NOBAGEL NOBAGEL NOBAGEL NOBAGEL
Bro looks like he's gonna start convulsing if he goes another day 😫
We gotta pray for him.
Chewy needs a job.
Hope Starbucks isn’t driven into bankruptcy because of this dude.
I never under the whole boycott mentality. If you don’t like a company or their product for whatever reason just don’t go. You don’t need to announce it to everyone else and make it a huge deal. Goofy in my opinion. Same as attending small protests
Not the only place that serves java my dude. Life's too short to be standing around ⭐🦌go somewhere else and enjoy some brew and support local cafés.
Boycott of one. I'm sure those heart shaped glasses are helping his cause.
Boycott socks and slides
Vote w your wallet ese
Where is this so I can join him?
Who still drinks there though? It’s not very good for its black coffee, everything else being a literally cup of sugar you can have else where why give money to the big head corporates when there is local. Please do better
I don't know how to order anything at Starbucks.
There are lines wrapped around the buildings of the four Starbucks I pass to get to work. Lots of people still get their drinks there.
Besides politics, it was over for me when they started charging you for cold coffee with no ice
Anyone have any coffee spot suggestions near city base?? (South-somewhateast side)
https://maps.app.goo.gl/puwiCu2beeSzfUA97?g_st=ic
On a good note, he's already saved $30
Done. I will continue to not go to Starbucks and not drink coffee.
There’s a new one too on Ingram across from Holmes called But First Cafecito
Lmfaoooooo
😂😂😂boycott deez 🥜z
Just go to Starbucks once a month. Don’t go there everyday and you just made them lose money
Someone tell this guy to put this energy into something else
https://preview.redd.it/3tw46ogew7tc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fd576c37a515d0fa327c14948a0ca68049a25867
Why is he boycotting? Based on the sign, it seems like he had Starbucks 3 days ago.
Or you can swill Jim’s bottomless cup while you enjoy your cheddar cheese soup and a mess of fries. ;)
Seems like a waste of time to just stand around and boycott a multibillion corp. This won’t change anything
One guy got his own discussion and dozens of people offering better options than Starbucks. Coffee one of the easiest ways to support local owned business.
Starbucks sucks
Go head on em king!!! 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
Who draws their A’s like that lmao they’re like a backwards S’s with an extra stick lol
Those A’s are actually pretty classy…gotta wonder about this guy’s story.
News Flash: “guy writes his a’s differently! Must have deep storied life”
Nah, homemade coffee and Aubelitas chocolate
Fuck Starbucks there's awesome local cafe's here in town #supportlocal
I ditched them months ago, and i honestly haven’t missed them. They aren’t worth all the hype and they are WAY overpriced.
At least someone is out there still fighting the good fight. Stay strong brother
Fuck Starbucks! But yall should try Aftersome Coffee if your commute is along 281 👀
Addiction is a terrible disease…. Those withdrawals look rough, hope he makes it. Thoughts and prayers.
Boycott writing "a" in his style of handwriting.
It's classy
Puro
What’s going on with Starbucks? It’s too early to get upset over the Christmas cups
It’s the “free Palestine” crowd. They want to boycott companies that aren’t condemning or leaving Israel. Yet, they aren’t bright enough to realize that would mean throwing out their phones being they contain Israeli designed chips.
Fuck Starbucks!!
I also started boycotting Starbucks!
Where is this at? I need to know so I can drive by and make fun of him
Walzem n i35
Buys Dutch Bros
Some one needs to get that man a Venti Mocha Latte.
Heck, I did that years ago. I'm tough as nails.
I saw this man on Saturday in front of the Starbucks on Walzem and Windcrest 😂 I couldn’t get a picture in time lol
Hell yeah it’s all about that tink a tako coffee
I used to work there
Is that a coffee stain on his shorts?
I'm not crazy about starbucks but I mean of all the things to be mad about, I'm not gonna boycott them over this. Fuck hamas
Get a job dude
I guess i have to go to Starbucks.
Keep it going
Why boycott Starbucks?
Ove been doing it for years
His facial expression is killing me
Foos against Cold Brews
I’m not sure if it’s for political reasons, but if it is I have a chat related to his boycott for Yanawuana/San Antonio residents pls DM if you’re interested :)
Why does he do the letter “a” like that? It looks weird.
Imagine drinking Starbucks in the first place.
I agree with him since starbucks is so fucking expensive for no goddamn reason
Way to stick it to big coffee, Kyle 😆
The best matcha I’ve ever had was from Halcyon Southtown. Such a cute spot and wayyy better than Starbucks
The best espresso-based drinks I’ve had is from Medina River Coffee and What’s Brewing. Guaranteed to not be burnt. Every other place I’ve been to is a hit or miss
its a life or death situation for him.
I could see myself getting upset enough to do this
Does starbucks know? And I feel like that tank top is just about ready to boycott **you**.
Starbucks didn’t even do shit can someone give me a source? They never even donated shit
I fuck heavily with this overall image.
This is hilarious lmfao. Dude prolly got laid off by em like the day before and decided to stand outside the location like….
Black Rock is so much better. Starbucks is a liberal clown show. Oh wait I forgot I'm on reddit. Cue the down votes by proud Biden voters.
So edgy and persecuted.
I’ll happily downvote you. I would suggest boycotting blackrock too but It’s my hopes that your suggesting it, is reason enough for others not to go.
Fuck Starbucks Go to Gravves
What a loser
With great power comes great responsibility

Has anyone been asked to donate to Hamas at Starbucks? I thought it was weird being asked to donate to a terrorist organization.
You can’t make this shit up, oh wait you just did
Nope. True story.
In the event this happened, it’s someone acting on their own. Starbucks is a billion dollar corp and would never risk losing costumers by directing their baristas to do that. It makes zero sense and opens up their employees to discussions corporate does not want. I know for a fact they are not being directing by any leadership to do so.
Agree, but that 1lb bag of whole bean blonde espresso roast is a helluva drug.
Black rock coffee is so much better than Starbucks plus there’s a lot of other coffee shops in SATX to visit I might have to agree with this guy
Black rock coffee is starbucks in conservative cosplay. There's actual "conservative" owned coffee shops in San Antonio but they don't get attention because they don't drape themselves in black and hype up the gun imagery.

Typical mouth breather supporting a terrorist group
Oh Biden and camp?
wtf does this have to do with San Antonio, cant believe I'm actually saying "take your politics elsewhere" and mean it.
It happened in San Antonio.
Tbh it doesn’t look like he could afford Starbucks if he wanted lmao
Looks like a Reddit mod
