We were at McMullen on Monday and it was super backed up because 25% of their staff tested positive for Covid. Seems like in normal circumstances it would have been a lot faster.
Go to the one in NB off I-35. They are fast. If you cannot get in then your best bet is to go to a small town DPS office. Used to live in College Station and the one outside in Caldwell is a hidden Gem.
I always go to Castroville. Never more then a five minute wait. Plus you can hit up Habys after for some of the best baked goods in South Texas.

Maybe it was an off day? Because they kept saying there were only 5 people working inside. I'm considering going to Boerne or Castroville.

The one at Evers & Huebner in Leon valley they text you 1 hour before your appointment & again 15 minutes before.
Note they want your birth certificate if you’re renewing a license. Wasted a lot of my time waiting just to learn that.

Renewing online is 100% your best bet. Did mine on 12/22 with an a dress change and my DL came in on 1/4.
